I’ve Became Able to Do Anything with My Growth Cheat, but I Can’t Seem to Get out of Being Jobless

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

I, Ichinosuke, failed to get a job for 100 consecutive times. Furthermore, my record is still being updated as unemployed.

On my way to a job interview, I was involved in an accident with a truck and tragically passed away.

And then, a Goddess bestowed upon me the ability to grow at a speed 400 times faster than normal, before sending me to a game-like otherworld.

However, knowing that I would not become stronger even if I continued growing while jobless, I aimed to get a job, but I found out that it was my terrible fate to remain jobless.

As my Growth Cheat and Jobless Cheat existed side-by-side in this otherworld, an adventure record, no doubt certified by the job-placement agency as a harmful book, begins here.

It is a lot similar to s*ave Harem, but much better. It is not stagnant and a lot of thing going on. So why 3 stars? It really doesn't have anything going for it other than being "not bad". You can pretty much guess how the story will turn out, the is no tension and not much comedy. MC starts off not that good, then becomes better and then falls to be no good again. It also becomes a mega-coincidence plot device where it turns out almost all characters know... more>> each other. It's an OK read, but not great and exciting. Just something to read while turning the brains off. <<less

I'll say this first. The author is a troll

Its a good story, not much plot but its there. The main story is about a reincarnated person with cheat ability and go adventure (nothing new)

But, the diff is, the MC is not a dense person, he do have s*x with the member and there is the romance, not just s*x for fun and those them around

... more>> And, the major thing I understand after some chapter, the SIDE STORY is the ACTUAL plot, while the main story is the heartwarming part.

Does it worth it to read? Yes it is
Are there good plot? Yes it is
Is romance good? IMO it is
What about the action? Not really good, cuz the MC just blast them with some skill, even the boss fight just use 2 or 3 skill. But that what you got from OP MC so im not complain <<less

Like many other reviews have said, this story is one that gets worse for every novel. It very obviously was inspired by s*ave Harem in the Labyrinth of the Other World in the beginning, but eventually cut out everything actually making that novel "good", like a MC with a brain or any form of originality or tension. Growth Cheat relies way too much on tropes, copied story lines, character archetypes and the power of s*upid. Especially the power of s*upid. It's frankly disturbing how much the of the plot require... more>> pure distilled s*upidity to advance... If only Jofre and Elise were never invented...

Even at the point I've read to the main character arguably hasn't had one good dedicated dungeon dive despite his cheat powers in a game world filled with dungeons, mostly it's a rush to the end or some ret*rded event that just so happens to take place at the local dungeon. Also supposedly Suzuki is the one with the Protagonist Correction blessing (really author??)... If all the time talking about rice and various soy derivatives were spent on actual world building and some actual character interactions this would've been much better, but in the end it's only a series of failed sketches within a loose overall continuity more than an actual story. <<less

Absolute batsh*it

MC personality: normal ➡️ badass ➡️ normal ➡️ cliche Japan MC

Early volume is good with a taste of "s*ave Harem in the Labyrinth" with skill, Lv & MIND growth rapidly. He can determine killing thieves after 3 day on otherworld and buy s*ave which is pretty normal if you have OP blessing (400x experience) and between life & death everytime in otherworld.

I thought MC would never do that to his s*ave and boy I was wrong, he did it with his first s*ave after bought her. I thought this... more>> would be like s*ave Harem which is my taste but NOPE. The more chapter we got, the more MC mind evolve (but backward). Im fine without specific their "night time" dialogue which is this isn't HENTAI and MC don't have to be se*x maniac and do nothing but boyyy, 200 chapter and he don't lay his hand on the second s*ave because her body height is 120cm, even if her actual age is 17 y.o and she got badonkers oppai loli .

First 100 chapter is well... I think it's good??? and then the quality down to the cliff. Introduce imouto (Lil sis), she would go to otherworld as well because her YANDERE trait and SaVe OnIi-ChAn. People cheers for her to quickly meet with her Onii-chan and author: "say sike right now".

After Miri success going to otherworld Author went crazy with clich plot where they never meet each other for one volume and thats irritating me the most because the reason why they don't bump each other is annoying and not make sense.

Miri character is going down drastically because her YANDERE trait, she don't care anyone except her Onii-chan and had thought of killing MC companion & friends even if she know about it damn...

The "plot twist" isn't good, I don't even think "what?" after revealing the twist and secret. I just say "meh..." (Seriously).

I recommend to read it till vol 5 if you can handle it <<less

I started reading this novel quite a long time ago and it did start out quite decently, being around 4/5 stars for the first 50-100 chapters. But it, as you can see from review patterns and scores dropping greatly, is just the initial impression before the author runs out of fresh material and motivation, making more and more mistakes that a decent author shouldn't make.

Was thinking about explaining things around chapter 400 and my thoughts after reading up to that chapter (and probably deciding to never read a single chapter... more>> of this novel ever again). Heh, can't help but feel that this novel would be better if the people were slightly more intelligent and had power more suitable for them.

I think most people here might have realized how s*upid most of the characters are, each one is more s*upid than the last, so might as well not touch that subject too much, just know that the child level schemes in this novel makes swiss cheese appear to have few holes in comparison and a dense MC that can't kill no matter what, never learns from his mistakes and always remains passive with no intent to act before being screwed over, just isn't interesting or fun to read about, too many worthless people like that around in novels.

Spoiler

One thing that is really s*upid would be how, no matter how far into the story we get, the protagonist doesn't seem to develop at all... rather, he seems to be regressing. He receives more and more powers, but his real power level is actually stagnant, I have failed to see any notable increase in his combat ability or overall ability since hundreds of chapters ago. At most he's getting some little miscellaneous skills to solve imminent problems conveniently. Even though the author says he's getting more powerful with more levels and combat skills available to him, it doesn't matter and only seems to make him complacent instead, he puts NO effort WHATSOEVER into getting more powerful, he just sits on his ass waiting for trouble to find him or for an opportunity to screw himself over and solve it by sheer luck or in some cases OP stats. It's hard to find a much more dull protagonist lacking any redeeming traits even if you search around. He doesn't deserve his powers nor his relationships with others.

Then we have the fact that everyone in this story is made out to be OP big shots but it's never really shown. Goddesses are just big pushovers that seem no different than somewhat powerful humans, everyone else is pretty much the same. What's the point of these people if they're powerless to do anything notable? Not to mention their foolishness, immaturity and lack of experience despite their positions and age.

[collapse]

Can't help but feel that 95% of the characters are nothing more than side-characters that barely show up at all anymore as well. Even main heroines like haru are barely present except for being mentioned or shown protecting someone or something. No proper dialogues at all. It's probably partly because the author made too many characters yet tries to give all of them some screen time but I also feel like it's because he's lacking motivation and imagination, that should be the only reason for main characters to be phased out to this extent where you don't really care about them anymore and they barely feel like part of the story. I wonder when the last time he had a proper talk with carol, haru or anyone else important was? It's at best short snippets of "Be careful" "protect this or that" "Do this or that" "eat this food I cooked for everyone" "I love you, yup, that's all, you can carry on now". Never anything even slightly notable that might result in character development or just letting us see them getting along properly. Kinda sad about it because quite liked haru, but she's nothing but a minor side character now despite being the main heroine. He's acting like a married man who has lost all interest in his wife after years of marriage. But the issue isn't that he doesn't love them, it's that they're not even properly integrated into the story anymore, they might say stuff and help out yet they're never a central part of anything.

Also, I only read this for the comedy, but I honestly don't see any even half-decent jokes anymore. This author should just drop this novel if he has no drive to make an effort, right now he's just writing in an incredibly lazy fashion, it feels more like "I'm milking this thing for money" rather than "I like the story and want to create something decent".

Spoiler

Honestly, the "my world" crap was a big mistake on the author's part. That's obviously a huge part of what ruined this novel and is making things worse all the time. Too many characters being carried around in the mc's backpack and he's always "at home", he can conveniently just phase back to his little NEET world and pass any extra time there doing nothing and having everything he could wish for inside instead of ACTUALLY EXPERIENCING THE REAL WORLD AND EVENTS IN IT. The idea of making a main character carry a freaking mini world on his back restricts ideas and development, at least in an adventure novel.

[collapse]

There are good reasons as to why many initially liked this a lot yet now the novel's score is dropping like a rock, being carried solely by people who scored it during earlier chapters. Sadly, this novel that started really well and was fun to read has turned into something horrible that is gradually getting worse as time passes. There's a limit to how many chances people can give a novel before giving up and dropping it, I feel like 400 chapters was the absolute limit for me, but would've given up earlier if I had read it all at once. If you read this, I recommend only going for the first 50-200 chapters at most. <<less

Novel is pretty boring and bland.

It's weird enough that you have a sister yandere.

somehow she turns into the demon king

The author doesn't keep track of the stats / job levels in the raw so it shows that I believe the author is just making sh*t up as they go along.

Eh it's okay, beginning is more fun than later on. Basically anything takes ages to happen, really doesn't feel like there was 200+ chapters of content here. In general the MC is surprisingly decent for an isekai novel. Not a giant pe*vert. Not a huge wus. Actually sleeps with one of the girls (yet not the rest even though it would be A-okay). Main things against it were:

-The constant focus on the side character duo. They are rather amusing when encountered but I don't need whole chapters dedicated to them. Later on it feels like there's 3 separate stories moving at once because yet another character is now being followed and it's annoying. And the MC getting annoyed at them acting lovey dovey and sending out wind slashes at their feet is just s*upid after the first few times, he has his own freaking harem with 2 girls he KNOWS like him. Get pissed about them being complete idiots instead.
Spoiler

-The sister. ~50 chapters of teasing her entry. ~100 chapters for them to meet up after said entry. And than like 10 chapters before she's f*cking kidnapped. REALLY? I was looking forward to the yandere personality of hers being added to the mix instead of just an "oh I tested you and you passed and now I'm gone" thing. Extremely dissatisfying.

[collapse]

-The jobless "class" itself. I see what the author was going for but it just feels like a stretch to me. If restrictions were added to make them seem like "part time temp jobs" or only parts of jobs were represented than it would be fine. This freely swapping things around multi-jobbing constantly seems more like an "all jobs admin" than a "I have no job" type thing. Even taking into account that it's a bug job it's kind of off putting. All in all a decent series and didn't feel like a waste of time to read. But not really great either.

I didn't like death march but I liked this light novel. The MC is a pretty relaxed and a laid back person who decides to start following his heart instead of running away like his life in Japan. The MC isn't another doormat that gets dragged around the world by his harem. The MC actually does things that reflect his values and beliefs. I've read some criticisms about how the MC doesn't just spend all his time powering up. You have to remember he only wanted enough to live a... more>> peaceful life. He never wanted to be a hero or someone insanely strong. He just wants to get word that his sister is safe back in Japan. Any monsters he kills is just incidental for the most part, the fighting and the power leveling isn't the main focus of the story.

Unfortunately, the main love interest and s*avery existing as a story device is the low point of this story. Haru the love interest who shows up pretty early doesn't really have a character and feels like a cardboard cutout. However, that's made up from how colorful the side characters are. I sometimes wish the MC's sister was the main character, then I realize the story would prob get stale fast if that happened. She's great because she isn't the main character or the main focus of the story. Centaur and the comedic duo become pretty great recurring characters. They even grow and get their own party members as the story progresses.

The MC's party members serve as the info dump guide by providing background information and helping the MC familiarize himself with the new world. There are even other Japanese people and they are pretty great weirdos in themselves.

I like how the hero of the world has to be kept hidden by the church because he doesn't live up to his heroic image. The part where the old heroes team shows up is neat. So is the way you get tidbits of lore that fleshes out the world as the story unfolds. I just like how there are essentially 3~4 groups of people with their own stories that sometimes intertwine and then go their separate ways. You know they're eventually going to run into each other and it's something you really end up looking forward to. It's not to the level of Baccano or Snatch but it's a nice change from the normal light novels. This is the slice of life, easy going novel that Death March wishes it was. <<less

OH MY f*ckING GOD THIS NOVEL!!!!

I'm just so incredibly angry at the author, I swear the start wasn't that bad, just mediocre, and THEN they arrived at the south continent, I ain't gonna spoil it for you if you decide to torture yourself reading this trainwreck of a WN but let me tell you, THE SECOND THEY ARRIVE AT THE SOUTH CONTINENT APPARENTLY THE MC SUFFERS FROM A f*ckING STROKE AND IS BRAINDEAD FOR THE REST OF THE TIME.

UGGGG IM SO ANGRY AT THIS NOVEL, why in gods name did... more>> the author turn the MC from a somewhat acceptable person with not much personality into havin NO PERSONALITY AT ALL, suffering from crippling jp novel disease, this guy would be unable to go buy bread if not for his companions.

I'm not any writer and neither do I know of how to write a compelling story, I only know the basics, and even then I can clearly see where the author went wrong:

FIRST - The MC is constantly playing the side quests and ignoring the main quest, I don't want to go into details because that is spoiler territory and I'm as lazy as the author, but dude trust me the MC is constantly doing side quests that I guess help the main plot, but they feel so elongated that it's just boring to read.

It has actually made me chuckle just how he lacks any sense of urgency even when his loved ones are in danger.

SECOND - The leveling/magic/power system is just plain bad, mainly because they pay so little atention to it, it is not explained how sh*t works in any way, just, "yell skill name thing happen" even when doing things like using magic in delicate ways or doing smithing it's litterally a "it just works bro" system.

THIRD - The characters are unlikeable and lack any depth; the MC just does things because of plot and his carboard cutout companions just follow him, exept when plot says otherwise. My favourite character is a donkey, no joke (a cool one tho).

FOURTH - Pacing. Slow af, im almost 400 deep into this sh*t and apparently author-chan installed a time dilating device into the story because it gets progresibly slower, problems that would be solved in max 5 chapters at the start of the novel, take 20 by chapter 350.

FIFTH - The cheat itself, cheats can be cool if handled correctly, but you know, not this novel ¯\_ (ツ) _/¯.

the main problem is the lack of urgency generated by the MC having everything handed to him in a silver platter, it's not to the level of other shitty WN and LN, but it's still bad, and the fact that MC doesn't find himself in any situation where there are ANY stakes is just boring. The most this novel has made me feel is bored and angry at author-chan.

Anyways, I do not recomend this novel, it can be entertaining at times but just to the extent of "one-shotting the asylum demon in dark souls in ng+" kind of fun

i would've maybe given a 3 star review when there were only 150 chapters translated back in 2017 or something, but this sh*t just gets worse over time. Anyways thank you for reading my rant and sorry if it was hard to read, english it's not my first language. <<less

This story takes "generic Isekai" and plays it straight to such an extent that I was half convinced I was reading satire. Characters also tend to be a bit lacking in the intelligence department. Not ret*rded, but not particularly clever either. For me, the biggest appeal of this series is that the lower IQ allows a lot of humorous shenanigans that wouldn't fly in real life to take place, but it also has all of the standard Isekai tropes done decently well if that's your cup of tea.

Did I enjoy... more>> reading this? Yes. Would I recommend it to someone else? Probably not.

As far as Isekai stories go this one is pretty good. It's captivating and very easy to read (although the very beginning felt pretty slow, boring and gamey). The only flaw is author decided to go with s*ave harem setting. Seriously, why every second japanese isekai novel has to be s*ave harem?.. Well, I give it 5 stars nevertheless, because if I rated this one at 4 then 90% of Isekai stories would be 3 or below.

A surprisingly decent isekai reincarnation story with some RPG reverse-abstraction.

-Premise: The protagonist is a young japanese man who cannot get a job because he dropped out of high school in order to take care of his little sister after their parents died (even though the little sister is a genius billionaire). He dies and gets reincarnated in a fantasy world with a JRPG framework focused on skills and an extensive job system. Because of a booking error, he receives two boons from two different goddesses that add up to a... more>> 400x XP gain rate. On top of that, due to his quick leveling he unlocks the seemingly hidden potential in the default "jobless" starting job that allows his to stack other jobs and skills, setting him on a road to become truly OP. Like that he sets out to have a fun and fulfilling life in this new world.

-Characters: We have our protagonist, Ichinojo, a simple, straightforward male lead. He ends up as a harem protagonist, but since he is older that your average light novel protagonist, his interactions with the harem are a bit less awkward and embarrassing than usual. Otherwise he doesn't really have any other defining characteristic. The harem member this far include Haru, a kemomimi s*ave girl he purchases in order to save her from being purchased by an obsessed noble, Carol, a legal loli who looks young because she is half dwarf (or mini-human or whatever) and whose original job makes her a monster magnet, and Marina, a fellow reincarnator who is normally incredibly shy, but when she puts on a mask she adopts and over-the-top chuunibyo character even though she is just a Street Performer. There are a lot of other important characters, but these four appear to be our main ones, with the protagonist slowly recruiting more harem members at roughly the rate of on girl every two arcs.

-Writing: Not bad. The comedy is very hit-or-miss, and the misses can range from unintentional (eg.: japanese puns) to cringe-worthy (eg.: pretty much anything related to the camp-gay muscular tailor dude called Margaret, the BL fujoshi girl or the idiot couple and their OP donkey). That said, while the story has a rocky start, after around 30 chapters it slowly finds its sea-legs and it actually does a lot of clever subversions based on stereotypical characters and situations. The romantic (or rather, erotic) relationships between the protagonist and his harem are fairly bad, but thankfully the author never really dwells on it and the off-screen s*x is mostly used as a punchline in the comedic scenes.

-Translation: Very good when it comes to prose or general dialog, but some of the specific terminology is just head-scratching. For example, why did they translate "Cleric" as "Practicioner"? Or "Scribe" as "Magical Journalist"? These kinds of gripes aside, the rest seems good.

-Summary: If you want to read a light, straightforward isekai story with decent characters and writing, this will scratch that itch for you. There is a decent amount of foreshadowing here and there to keep the reader interested, as well as some nice power fantasy elements, but the comedy often feels too overwrought, which drags it down a little. Fortunately thought most of the worst of said comedy gets compressed into separate chapters following the idiot couple and their equally one-note companions, which you can mostly skim through without losing much. Overall I would recommend it if you like these kinds of stories, though it probably won't show you anything new. <<less

Read up to Chapter 13 so review is subject to changes:
The start is actually interesting as it gives us insight into what kind of person he was before he became a world traveler (it doesn't start off with a clique beginning). The story is fast paced (as is his leveling) with a quick introduction to the s*avery qliche with a unique twist on it. Hopefully the author will give more details to the chapters in the future as the fight scenes and story telling leave much to be desired... more>> (which will probably happen as he has to reach a strong opponent some time... right?).

TL;DR: This is a very promising, although somewhat clique, wish fulfilment / slice of life story about a cheat MC living his life to the fullest. <<less

I don't really do much reviews but I had to with this one because how bad it was.

The LN started out strong and I really enjoyed it but it was only enjoyable up to a point.

The comic relief characters were annoying throughout the entire LN and made you want to skip the parts with them in it.

The MC was enjoyable in some aspects but he is unrealistically nice especially at the end.

The ending was just dumb and ruined it for me.

Spoiler

everything the goddesses did through the novel was all a setup to force the MC's sister to become a goddess which she did not want to do and even the MC did not want her to become a goddess but when the goddesses loose the final battle and he is about to kill her then she tell's him everything they did he was perfectly fine with it with no hate towards the goddesses.

i had already changed my rating from 3 to 2 when the MC didn't kill the other white wolf girl when she asked haru to stop shaking her tail. Then I changed it to 1 when MC also supported her decision. How it went from 4 to 3 you ask? Then happened when when the walking a*sh*le Miri was introduced. I had already lost hope but I still continued on but after this point the things stopped making sense. And if this rating of mine dissatisfies you, I haven't got much to say. The story and rest of the stuff is nothing significant so you can just enjoy the cuteness of the characters but when even that is taken away there is nothing left to enjoy.

This isn't much of a spoiler but yeah. The title and the story itself is contradicting themself.

*Edit* There is correction on description so I'll add it here for reminder just in case someone read this. They describe it now that no job is a cheat so I'll leave it at that. Still, this ain't gonna change my view on this either way.

While most of the isekai slow life troop would fall into this as well, it isn't that bad considering they need to spice thing up by creating them. This one is a big NO. The premise is MC can't get out of jobless job (Default job) but reallity is he just choose not to because there are so many benefit. Why would he can switch job back and forth while the others is stuck with the one they choose. The next thing is damn goddess. She is the one freaking design the whole system and even she has to go back researching the damn jobless job! WHY!! Isn't she the one who create it? If it is stuff you copy from somewhere or have a co-creator then there bound to have some. But she is the one and only. You should have pretty much detail on stuff you create since you won't be able to get those stuff work in the first place if not. There are many plot hole but these two irritating me the most.

It started pretty entertaining, but the last 100 chapters are just fillers with no main plot progress at all. The author is stretching the text by adding many needles random events. They have "oh she might be in that ship, we have to hurry up!" Then 100 chapters of doing random stuff, then "oh finally she is here! I see you're tired, go to sleep I have to battle now!" Then 50 chapters of meaningless battles, sooooo slooooow. Translation speed is also slow, so you have to wait for half... more>> a year to read the next event.

The side characters are the worst. Okay, they are s*upid and the joke about how s*upid they are was ok. Not too fun, because having s*upid side characters is very cliche. They even communicate with copy paste phrases. Then, they have another chapter. And yet another. And again. The same s*upid joke, told you 100 times is NOT FUN. Luckily you can skip when they appear and it will not influence the main plot. Filler chapters are too much!

If you want to read "Harem for degenerates" genre, I'd recommend "Hello work" instead, it is so much better. Or "how I built a nation in a week". Wasting time on jobless is a waste. Or be prepared to drop it around chapter 250 out of boredom. <<less
