When Emperor Zi Yu died, disputes unceasingly arose

One thousand years later, a once in a generation genius, Heavenly Emperor of Qin Mountains was born. Able to split a one hundred meter river, equipped with his peerless martial prowess, he finally united the land under the heavens. However, when Heavenly Emperor of Qin Mountains died, chaos once again shrouded the land. Another one thousand years passed and no one was able to consolidate the nation.

From contemporary society, great Chinese Martial Artist Teng Qingshan, unexpectedly arrived into this world.

Oh am I disappointed...

At first tomatoes writes a whole first book about the protagonist’s previous life, showing his character, values and motivation. Showcasing the emotional suffering he went through, which made him the person he became.

Then, in the second book, protagonist betrays his former self because he “lives in a new environment and has a family now” and acts like a completely different person, making the first book WORTHLESS, except the information that he learned a legendary technique during his former life.

Now, the reason why I just can’t take... more>> this anymore:
Spoiler

->protagonist knows the pain of the woman he loves being killed by his enemies
->his cousin is about to marry
->his cousin is described as completely in love, wanting to spend his life with only one woman
->his girl was kidnapped by bandits one hour ago
->protagonist is stronger than bandits, able to quickly catch up, while his cousin is weaker
->he, a former stealthy assassin, drags his cousin with him, even though it slows him down
->they arrive at bandit camp late at night (best time for stealthy assassinations by a top professional, who's great at using PROJECTILES!!! such as stones)
->knowing that those kidnapped girls will be “most probably r*ped and killed”, they decide to WAIT and do NOTHING because the bandits would know his face (next chapter reveals his ability to change his appearence.....)
->they find the girls’ corpses, cousin suffers a similar experience as protagonist has in previous life
->protagonist thinks: eeh, it’s just a chick, "I wouldn’t risk my cousin’s life for a random person”
->a bit later, the same group of bandits responsible for kidnapping+r*pe appear at their doorstep
->protagonist (who is strong enough to kill ALL of them) and cousin calmly talk to them like nothing happened
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!!!!!!
tomatoes is either ret*rded, or writes incoherent jibberish just to make people angry...

So far I'm enjoying this novel nearly as much as I'm enjoying DE and I enjoyed early CD. This tells the story of a reincarnated super-assassin from a world with declining Qi powers. This means that the cultivators of his original time had to get creative in how they powered themselves up. This gives him an initial advantage when he is inevitably reincarnated elsewhere.

This novel has one of the best pre-reincarnation prequels I have seen in a CN. It takes time to build the MC's character before the transition so... more>> you have a pretty good grasp of him and his abilities in the new world. IET also does a great job on the emotional depth in this part.

This is one of the more grounded IET novels (so far) in terms of abilities and power progression. So far the combat has had a very skills based wuxia/ martial arts feel rather than energy beams and elemental powers. This is a nice shift for IET. I guess he was trying something new. We also get to see the MC utilising his assassin skills, so those aren't forgotten. The Tag says Romance but so far the 2/3 romantic interests mentioned or shown have fallen flat in terms of holding my interest. The second had a chance but plot progression interfered. Given how IET handles romance I'm not holding my breath for anything magnificent. However, outside romance, he is doing a better job with semi-important side characters. They have a lot more sustained characterisation so far. You feel how much the MC cares for his new family for example which in turn makes you care for them as well, this growing affection he has is especially important given his past. All in all, if you like the initial periods of IET novels you'll probably like this one. Plus the MC uses a spear which is different, sword cultivators are a dime a dozen nowadays. <<less

I enjoyed it at the beginning. I was like, yay!, a new genre of martial arts without op stuff. After chapter 120, it was feeling more like a chore because he is so amazing and awesome and no matter the troubles he'll get through them. But, again, plot armour strikes twice! Twice, I tell you, twice! Without warning, I fell off my seat in anger. Then, I hear rumors around 199 that something changed, after the armour earlier. I was like, is it gone? Am I safe? But NO! I... more>> was not ready! Chapter 201 strikes, and how did he do it! Plot Armour, the godly thing appears again! I can respect the power of Plot Armour, because it has saved EVERY SINGLE SIDE CHARACTER in the book! It had superpowers! I decide then and there that I do not want to have a heart attack at such a young age from the [Rebound] powers of Plot Armour, and I leave, never to be seen again on this thread.

On a side note, I enjoyed very much the prologue and the Power of the Rocks. Tm. That's why it gets two stars. Toodles. <<less

I’ve previously read this till v2 ch28 when the translation was done by Wuxia Translation, but just now decided to write this review to celebrate the fact that Gravity picked it up ^^

Among the translated I Eat Tomatoes’ novels, personally I like The Nine Cauldrons the most. Its plot armor is relatively thin, and there are plenty background explored, so we are able to gain better understanding about the MC character and circumstances. The things that happened on the plot was narrated properly as if they occured naturally or for... more>> certain reasons, not coming out of the blue just to make the MC overpowered, for wish fulfillment, or such. The pace is also quite satisfying and balanced. All in all, worthy of 5 stars rating.

I’m not sure how the story beyond v2 ch28 will go, but it’s clear that there’s huge potentials. <<less

IET is the best xianxia novel author for me. Same as his desolate era, stellar transformation, swallowed star, etc...

The nine cauldrons also have deep character build up. The romance, fight and interactions with MC is not written in a mindless plot just for killing villains. Unlike cheap MC harem seeking characters in other novel, IET always have mature and tranquil plot with his romance. The competitions and fight is really an exciting one. Can't help to read more chap!

The Epitome of Hipocricy should be the novel's title.

Why?

It's because in book 2 his cousin was about to get married and then before they arrived at the bride's village during the marriage date, they found out that the bride was already abducted by the young master of a gang. This young master together with his elite subordinates were praparing to have a war against another gang so they want to have a feast and beauties to ravage before the battle. The bride was one of these beauties.

The MC and his cousin sneaked inside the young masters location and just waited in the dark. His reason for not saving his cousins bride was he din't know the bride's face and he promised not to compromise his village's safety. Later on the young master came to his village to recruit men for the final battle against the opposing gang. His cousin just stood there without even throwing a tantrum against this young master that abducted and gang r*ped his supposed to be wife. Suddenly the young master noticed his sister and proposed a marriage then he accepted the marriage with intent to kill hidden within and when the young master and his elite men left, he tailed then then decided to... ok I'm totally donnnnneeeeee!

The MC could be walking in the dao of HIPOCRICY towards immortality!

If he already had this strength in the first place, why would he allow the bride to get r*ped? He was even stronger than the father of this young master! He din't know the brides face? He even monologued something like "life is feeble and said that even if he took action the bride might still die, and he won't compromise the village". He even know the pain of losing the one he loved but still let his cousin suffer. After all is done, why would he take action later on then? Even if the bride might be killed at least she had a chance of survival. <<less

Never seen such a queer MC so far. MC is a cold-blooded ruthless assassin who's very decisive by nature which is proved repeatedly in the story. Extremely protective of his tribe & family, but when it comes to innocents being defiled & slaughtered he amazingly has excuses to make up for it that he couldn't have saved them in time or has not much power etc, but then you have him showing right in the next moment that he's got the strength that actually could've dealt with it. He only... more>> realises the love of a woman only when she dies for him and then he starts whining all over thinking about them. And its not just once!! Well atleast he lives up to his pathetic cold-blooded character in a way.

The first book serves just as a backdrop and seems like bunch of a filler chapters once you've finished it and moved to the next arc (other than the fact where his dead wife Cat is mentioned repeatedly so you know how much he misses her & his painful past). But one whole book!!? Just hurry up and die man geez!! The story fails to keep your attention hooked. I do find one thing funny. No matter what techniques he learns, I find the best attack he's got is throwing stones which flies like a bullet from his arm!! Hilarious or ingenious? I'll never know. Compared to DE & Swallowed star this novel doesn't match up to their standards at all. Quite disappointed. <<less

Oh wow where should I start........ First this is not a store for closed minded people and people who do not appreciate good store tell. First you do not start off in the new world right away and on Earth for the 1st book. This is very important because we get to know the MC in more depth and not over time when the store is going. We get to know his powers and why he does thing different in the new world and not goes along with the norm.... more>> If you have read any of IET work before then you know family is going to play a big role in to this and that the MC does thing is a more rational way and not on emotion. <<less

If you've ever read anything by IET then you know what you're getting into. This is equivalent to his previous work and perhaps one of his more interesting reads given that his MC is a bit more complex than the typical "hard-working youth" of his previous books (CD, ST, DE).

A fun read so far and I have no doubt that IET will continue to deliver a fantastic read, the guy can really do no wrong in my eyes.

Only one love interest dies so I don't understand what the other reviewer is talking about. The second love interest doesn't die. Maybe he is talking about the fact that he MC had a wife who died before start of the story but that doesn't count as a love interest IN THE STORY.

I scraped through the MT of this book a couple of months ago and it was so good, I finished it. This is a huge feat in the world of horrendous MT but it is such an enjoyable read, I couldn't stop. 5* Though honestly, IET didn't have to end it where he did. It is a rare case of actually having more exploration possible at the end of a xianxia webnovel. Hope someone picks this up soon. I wanna read in English!

Like "A step into the Past", the author decided to kill his waifus. I don't know if you can deal with this, but I don't enjoy seeing a lovely relationship slowly building up and then seeing her die tragically. Not only one love interest but two die this way, this definitely deserves a tragedy tag

After reading the whole novel, I must say its one of IET best work, the Journey is extremely satisfying. The only Downside is that cliffhanger ending, IET just decided to end the novel when the ending is actually the beginning, after the ending it just leaves you really empty and wanting for more. : ( ( ((, I sure hope he decides to do a sequel.

Welcome to the world where the value of a man is measured by his ability to lift stones. I'm not even kidding. Strength is the only thing matters in this world, and this created a society where 90% of the people in it are morons. There were usually moments where the authors of the books I read outsmarted me and wrote something that made me go "Oh that's why, " or "that's clever". There was none in this novel. Everyone is an idiot, and that includes the MC. He only... more>> knows how to punch/kill his way out of trouble. Not because he's blood thirsty (he's ruthless but not BT), arrogant, or hot headed (he's actually mostly level headed and knows when to retreat), but simply because he's lacking the brain power to outsmart even his dumbest enemies.

Spoiler

He can't even outsmart illiterate, countryside bandits that terrorize his little village. And during one of his rare attempt to outsmart his enemies he got the woman who loves him unconditionally killed.

He's so s*upid, that at one time he stumbled upon a sword skill of one of 4 undefeated martial gods that could make him invincible very early on, but he refused to learn it wholly because he uses spear, not sword. So he embarked on a long ass journey to find an inheritance of one of the other martial gods, even though that god actually used an ax. So he went, learned the ax skill, used an ax from there, and never even touched a spear again till the end. W.T.F!

There are a lot of war/battle scenes in novel, but pretty much every single one of them is a siege of a city. In here, the largest army wins, period. The so called "generals" don't know anything about formations, battle tactics, strategy, etc. Just a huge number of people chopping each other into pieces.
Book 1: long ass epilogue followed by slow moving plot where a a 9 YO "talented" kid teaches his fellow villagers martial arts. And none even bother to question where did he learn martial arts, or burn him on a stake for being a warlock.

Book 2, 3, 4: Where the story picks up and everything happens at dizzying pace.

Book 5: The closing chapter of the first huge arc where you'll most likely want to strangle the author and drop the novel.

Book 6, 7, 8: Boring ass cultivation journey where only 3 or 4 events actually have any effect on the main story line.

Book 9, 10: unsatisfying ending of a less than mediocre novel

[collapse]

The novel has its moments, but most often than not, you'll get frustrated reading this. <<less

Before reading The Nine Cauldrons, understand that it is, at heart, a wuxia. This means that it has a more mature story than you might be used to. It's more down-to-earth than a xianxia would be, pacing the MC’s badass moments to make them less common, but seem more awesome when they do occur. This isn’t necessarily what readers want, though, and can kind of bore many of them, which probably helps explain why IET moved on to writing more “fast food” stories after it. Moreover, because the MC’s more mature than most xianxia MCs are, his fewer moments of childishness/selfishness/rawr-massacre-everyone-because-I-don't-care-about-them! Stand out and are all the more aggravating.

Another thing to to keep in mind is that the MC’s feelings of duty and love follow a traditional Chinese structure. The MC’s very dutiful to his sect, clan, and family. These values can be extremely annoying for readers who want to read about an unchained MC, and who don’t want the MC to just marry a woman because his parents expect him to, and would like the romantic interest to be something more than a glorified maidservant. However, it’s not like there are any powerful women who are available, in the first place. If you hate it, and you can’t appreciate why the author’s doing it that way, then at least try to bear with it.

The MC spends a lot of time training, and gets into quite a few fights, but he’s usually stronger than his opponents. Some chapters are exciting, some mini-arcs are great, but the novel can also be sort of boring for long periods of time. The novel’s a good 625 chapters long, not too short nor milked for more than it’s worth. Every arc has purpose and is different from the ones before. The Nine Cauldron’s selling point is how story-like and memorable it is for a cultivation novel. It's a wuxia story, aye, but it blends in fantastical xuanhuan elements very nicely, creating an impressive mixture of the genres.

Honestly I really hated the intro to this novel. I really could care less about the first book. Nothing relevant to the story actually happens and every single f*cking character is going to disappear.

Yes. We learn some about the character, but that's it. There are hundreds of better ways to tell us this information instead of this bullshit. Personally, I recommend skipping the entire first book. It's a waste of time to read and you won't miss anything. The second book is barely started and I can't form an opinion... more>> yet, but overall this is looking like the worst IET novel by FAR. This is a really good IET novel, probably one of my favorites. The defining factor that really sets this one apart is that it’s set in a place like ancient China (kinda like the Jianghu) and the martial arts are a very important part of this story, instead of just cultivation. It’s like a Xianxia that leans a bit more towards Wuxia. Cool, right?

Also, this story has the reincarnation trope, but done RIGHT! I mean it, the first volume is character building for the main character, but is exciting, and... more>> helps build an understanding of his techniques. <<less

IEatTomatoes, I love his other works like LXY/CD/ST/DE and I really love it and it's so good I complete read CD 3time without getting boring. This novel is the worst by far, boring, force plot and frustrating to read.

IET mentioned repeatedly that MC can hear something/sound from far away and has extreme speed skills and superb throwing stone/dagger skills and MC is so friking good at it, but when it come to the most needed to use all this skill, MC becoming useless and IET he amazingly create a nonsense... more>> excuses to make up for it.

MC he couldn't have saved them in time or has not much power. WTF??! For real?!! All for the sake Force romance!

[collapse]

I hate it when any author using this kind of plot to force romance or relationship to MC and a female character.

Repeatedly mentioned about MC past pain of losing the one he loved so many time! In many chapter and it's little annoying
Spoiler

but still let his cousin suffer and taste the same way as he did when he had the strength and skills to change all of this.

Scare enemy may recognize him? He's a GrandMaster of disguise! Don't have power to kill enemy? He's even stronger than enemy! Enemy to many? He had a godly throwing stone/dagger skills that can instantly kill the enemy with one hit superb fast it already be prove that he can!

EIT you are the one who repeatedly mentioned how good MC is with all this skills. For the sake of force plot you abandon all of this and turn your MC into ret*rd and completely useless.!

As a father you should never ever bring yours Kids with you to a battlefield which is the most dangerous place in the world even if they beg for it. You cant even guaranty your own life, don't say your kids life. I feel sorry for XX. I also don't like you at first but when I start voting and like you, you are to be replace completely by annoying one and turn him into fuktard. Sigh.. RIP.

MC trained on his spear arts so hard and create so many new spear arts but in the end when it come to real combat his throwing stone/dagger skills is prove is more awesome and powerful than his spear arts. WTF?!

After MC meet with XXX he turn into completely fuktard and gay! He can kill a guy with bullsh*t nonsense reason and saying he can feel the guy has kill many innocent just from looking at his "AURA" whom he just meet and barely f*cking know more than killing someone who try to kill, rob and and insult him many time.! So many f*cking times!! What he do in return? Fk me!! What he fking do is talk like a girl smiled and say i'll beat you Awrw! A f*cking smiled and I beat you, oh yeah babeh! Aiyaa! You are full with bulls** maa!! HAHAhaHa.!! Seriously?!!

After reading this I experiencing severe depression. My doctor says 10-15% of my brain cells are missing. I have a problem to calculate from one to three and forgot how to walk using my legs for a weeks. (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Even if he really kill the innocent, maybe he kill some innocent that enter that place so he obviously just doing his job by killing someone who trespassing a forbidden place, which is everyone already knows it is forbidden to enter so who are you to blame if you are being killed even if you are innocent, obviously you are the one asking for it? He's just doing his job!

It's same if you try to trespass into any Country or a place like Palace or Military Camp, you can be shoot down and killed instantly or facing a death penalty and being sentence to death at court in some country even if you are innocent because you already know its forbidden and you ask for it.! This is happens in a modern world! So don't say ancients world!

I'm really sorry IET it just to much for me, I really love yours work and I am a big fan of yours work. I started reading Chinese Novel from just to kill my time and its now becoming my hobbies from yours novel first which is Coiling Dragon, but for this one it almost turn me into completely an idiot and dying from anger. One of the best currently translating action fantasy novels. MC's cultivation path in unique, world is interesting and the experiences of his previous life are shown really well in first book. He also uses his previous life knowledge very well and creates his own martial arts and new methods of using qi. Usually MC would find some book written by great masters but here even if he finds one he still sticks to his own style (way) and does not follow artial way of someone else. Even though it is... more>> wuxia and not xianxia, most xianxia readers will still love it. Plus unlike many wuxia novels this does not have naive MC who is too kind, like a freaking saint. <<less

The entire first book is before he reincarnates,

However it contains heavy foreshadowing towards the path of cultivation the MC takes in his next life. As well as builds on the experiences of his previous life. It is essential a long prologue that is somewhat essential to the plot. Whilst I have not read the second book yet, I have read previous works from this author. And I have got to say, most people don't give him enough credit. IET works do leave certain things for the reader to connect... more>> the dots before the twist or event happens. It is nice how you can see somewhat where the story is going but at the same time not having it completely thrown in your face like you are a ret*rd.

So for now I will give this work a solid 5/7

Jk

4/5

I will give an official rating (as I don't want to go back and change it.) when I am caught up. Now if you are reading this 3 years from now when this has like 7 or 8 books done and you see no edits assume that my opinion is still standing. <<less

Well I have some goods and some bad news.

The good news is that I fixed my heart. Also this novel is rather enjoyable I'd give it a 4/5.

The bad news is that my heart shattered, again. If you read up to this point you remember it has the tragedy genre and 'Death of loved ones' tag.

Huh wonder why I read it to be honest.

Returning to my world of darkness now.
