220 years ago, in the legendary Dragon Demon War, Hero Azell ended the war by killing the evil Dragon Demon race’s King Atein. He was able to save the population, but as a consequence, he was cursed. While he was dying, the high magician suggested a gamble that might save his life.

‘The Dragon’s hibernation is the only key to saving your life.’

Instead of a human’s sleep, he slept the sleep of the dragons and he was able to overcome the curse. Now he is realizing that he has slept way longer than a human’s life span.

Pros:
*well translated.

Cons:
*typical shounen genre characters. (People talk a lotduring fights)
E.g.
"I will remeber this"
"Don't forget my name"

*omnipotent narrator explaining everything (think george of the jungle).
*the culture of the setting is very japanese-esque despite being in a medieval european fantasy.

Dropped.

Too much talking.I don't like how the interactions are made. Like a story made script that lacks depth. Mostly are just dialogue and what I am doing is scanning instead of reading word by words since the more I read the more I felt that most interactions are not important.

I actually expected more in this novel since most Korean novels are made good and the writings does't feel cheap. But I guess I'm doomed to disappointment.

The MC also lacks aggressiveness, quite bland and lacks of character. I cant relate how... more>> he can just easily interact with a demon dragons when he before is fighting them in war. He even save the demon princess when if you think about it, It will feel like yesterday when he got cursed..I guess its because its a PRINCESS thing. Really hateful attempt of a cheap romance. All I can see is an MC trying to show off. <<less

So far, the story seems interesting. The MC used to be powerful, before he went into hibernation. After waking up, he is steadily trying to gain his strength, the MC is not OP yet, but he is not weak, either. I can not wait until the plot progresses.

Update: Well, the webnovel started becoming annoying. A long arc was dedicated to an "awesome" sword that could cut "through the heavens, " but was not able to cut down more than one enemy. Then, a life and death battle was stopped after... more>> the enemy was losing, because the story needs an enemy potential harem member. The excuse in the story used, was to spare the enemies in exchange for another "awesome" sword for the MC. What is funny about the swords is the MC for most of his life did not view swords as great as a swordsman would, but he viewed them as convenient weapons. Yet, suddenly swords have become important in the story. It is too bad, because I had high hopes for this webnovel, but now I am dropping it. <<less

Enjoying this Novel so far. Up to C 25. MC is not OP as of yet and is developing. As per the description MC slept for 220 years and wakes up malnourished and dehydrated. No muscles no magic power left, everything is lost and has to start over.... or so you would think. Still having his knowledge from the past and at a ripe age of 24 (plus the 220 years) the MC sets of on a journey once again. You realize being a hero he can not leave things... more>> be. <<less

Dropped! Do not recommend to read! Overall story: after defeat dragon demon king (DDK), MC Needs to sleep for 220 years. When he wakes up, he finds that DDK is coming back and all people he holds dear pass away (from old age or somehow killed by dragon demon king worshippers (DDKW)). He needs to stop DDK and revenge.

My opinion: the story is very boring and has so many flaws.

First, his good friend buries him in isolated area. No protectors for hero's body, no records for People in next generation,... more>> no procedures to help hero. For god sake, he is hero. His friends 100% know that he will wake up but no one in next generation knows anything.

Second, Author has no idea how to create enmity between MC and DDKW after 220 years. He just gives a lame excuse for DDKW to kill all people in MC's territory. Why DDK followers need to kill? What good will they gain from holding MC's territory? Where are Hero's followers to stop or soldiers from kingdom?

Third, all people in the story keep questioning "who is MC?" MC told his name " ". His appearance and his God-like abilities are perfectly fit to what hero is described in history. He is also discovered in the ruin of his friend's Mage. No one still believes that he is hero. Example, he told dragon demon duke that his friend uses magic to let him sleep in long hibernation. Do not believe MC. God sake?!! This is a world of magic. Anything can happens. MC calls his unique-hero weapon. Only hero uses this weapon. All his enimies still say "who are you?, how can you have that sword?" God sake?!! All people in the story know that DDK can come back. DDK preserve his soul and create his new body. Why can not hero do it? So annoy. Until chapter 110, still who are you? Author creates all characters to have intelligent levels around primary school students (around grade 4). Fourth, no development on any characters. Dragon demon Princess, prince and etc. Just shallow interaction with MC. No more development. I still do not know why Azell helps dragon demon princess in the earily chapter. He just wakes up and very weak. Know nothing about the world. Have no idea about the strength of enemies's organisation or conflict between dragon demon princess and DDKW. Somehow, he helps her but leave her to travel and no mention again (at least 50-60 chapters). All relationship between MC and others are illogically created. Fifth, in all fighting scenes, MC has too many talk-tr*sh. No meaning to the story and sound s*upid. Example, he thinks "oh Although I summon my god-like sword and have an upper hand now, I nearly reach my limitation. I need to finish this quickly". Then, instead of attacking his enemies, he keeps talking nonsense and wait for his enemies to reply. WTF? Fifth, No turning points. Only one dimension story. You know the summary of the story from me above. Wait until around 200th chapter and read the end. That is all.

In summary, author should set this novel name as "who are you?: You have Red hair, blue eyes, god-like strength and name the same as hero from 220 years ago". I do not recommend to read this novel. If you want to waste time and are craving for some punishment from poor and illogical nove. Good luck <<less

My biggest problem with this novel is flow.

The author does not understand flow and how to use it and how not to break it. There are conversations broken up by world building that just drags on and on. It's like if they had ads in books and you were reading then all of a sudden "We now interrupt this conversation to bring you 6 paragraphs of world building" then continuing the conversation like nothing happened.

Characters were nothing to write home about, barely better than bland but not enough to be... more>> called interesting.

World building was less than decent. Nothing wrong with a generic fantasy world if you can deliver and execute it well, but this is a generic fantasy world delivered in less than passable fashion but not completely terrible.

Translation also needs work, suffers from localization, grammar and spelling mistakes. <<less

This really exceed my expectation. Very slow pacing but the details and world building is extremely good.

Plot 5/5. MC is a hero but fallen because of the curse and given a chance to live. After he woke up is not that OP. So he had to train his body and power.

Story telling is good. 4/5 But author tends to repeat or explain somethings that he explained.

... more>> Character 5/5 my gad this is really stunned me. If you read this novel then you will understand me.

5/5 battle scene.. Some review and scored 1 star said characters/villains tends to talk a lot in fight scene. Its true but it is different, author explained why they converse while fighting example gaining info, and by speaking it may confuse or divert the attention of the enemy and some of words affects surroundings or mindset. Like battle roar.

Overall. 5/5 <<less

So without a doubt this is more then a ordinary read of timeless class hero vs villain. This novel takes it one step further and explores defining characteristics beyond simple power that makes a hero. Though not in a way that distract reader from unfolding world of conspiracy, betrayal and heroism. As such this series has my highest recommendation.

This korean novel is decet and interesting.

First of all, in my opinion, this story have good world building and setting. It build from MC monologue and his detective work to find the different in recent world affair and his era. Especially, I like how The author make good use of clash between races to build his world premise.

The story also have deep battle technique explanation like proper battle shonen manga (if you read Hunter x Hunter you get what I mean). I don’t read a lot of Xianxia, but I... more>> think the author mix xianxia battle technique (body reinforcement) with fantasy magic decently. The plot and character development is progressing perfectly, not fast or slow. The author like to insert misunderstand comedy using how different the MC behaviour with other character which I find amusing. Moreover, The MC is start from zero because he lost his former power then training like mad man lol. Additionally, I like the interaction between Azell (MC) and Arrieta (Heroine) at the momment (ch18). The relationship build up properly throught interaction and reflection, not like other harem WN which the heroines suddenly love the MC.

The battle also feel more interesting with a lot of unorthodox technique and laughable tidbits (lol at the MC tsukomi enemies cliché dialogue). The MC use his wits and rich battle experiences to outwitted his enemies.

In summary, I recommend this story if you like battle adventure story with nice and laughable character interaction. <<less

What happens when you combine Korean values into a wuxia esq story with life rings and cord masters set in a western fantasy world with knights and dragons? Why you get a clusterfuc Dragon Maken War! However, I really like parts of the story and I get a quick laugh whenever the author mentions meditation because I picture European knights meditating while sitting in the Buddhist lotus position wearing full plate armor. It's just very difficult to continue reading when portions of each chapter feels like the author is getting... more>> paid by the word so is dragging it out to fill space. Reading is extremely jarring at times, taking you out of the story's pacing and flow multiple times per arc. Here's a quick summary of the story:

Spoiler

Main Character is the Hero who defeats the Demon King but is forced into a deep slumber. He awakens in a protected crypt 220 years later in a now unfamiliar world where everyone he's known and loved has died. He is a shell of his former self but takes the gamble to rebuild with the vast amount of knowledge gained from his adventures with his closest friend Carlos.

[collapse]

It's a new attempt at blending the genres but the author tends to go on wild tangents often times paragraphs long awkwardly attempting to flesh out his fantasy world. Unfortunately, it amounts to "because magic" because of how dull and pointless the explanations are, leaving you with more questions than answers.

An example from the start of c19:
Spoiler

Contrary to Azell's fear, the Dragon's Shadow didn't attack them even when the day brightened. They had failed to capture the party again after the party escaped their surveillance.

It wasn't an easy task to find a lost target in a vast forest. Moreover, Azell and Arrieta spent sufficient efforts to evade the enemy's attention.

Arrieta was impressed.

"Your Art of Concealment is very mysterious."

Azell was great at using his ability to hide his body. He used his Art of Concealment to hide himself, and he also used it to hide his party members. For a short amount of time, they basically ceased to exist. Even the most sensitive demonic beast passed by without seeing them.

[collapse]

Azell is so good at hiding his body that just by being near him others will cease to remember you exist also! I wish all the ladies told me I have a mysterious art of concealment in the middle of a forest too Azell. It doesn't help that the author is poor at explaining and writing descriptions but the story reads more like a screenplay where you're trying to brute force the much need visual and background effects with text spam.

An example from the start of c27 :
Spoiler

He had a dream.

It was a dream about the distant past.

However, his dream was vivid as if it had happened not too long ago.

It was that kind of dream.

'This must be a dream.'

Azell dumbly thought to himself.

[collapse]

After reading this me too Azell, me too. <<less

Complete edit: final grade 4/5. Small things forced me to drop one star, but overall this is enjoyable strong to stonger fantasy. Biggest con for me was that story is sometumes slow to progress and then sometimes feels a bit rushed. There is also a lot of talking during fights which is always a bit unrealistic, even if the author tries to make it feel reasonable with stuff like "taunting the opponent" or "delaying for time" it is still a lot of talking. Anyway, as a massive fantasy novel consumer... more>> I would recommend this as a well balanced story. While it has it cons there are many positives as well like well written side characters at least on web novel standards.

Original review: Like said many times in previous reviews this series has a slow moving phase in some ways but that gives more time to build the characters and the fantasy world. Only problem for me is the relatively slow translation speed as this is the type of novel I would love to binge read. Good find anyway and I recommend to anyone that likes the fantasy genre! Romance as of this point (ch53) is still pretty much non-existent but you can kinda see the way it's going and I have high expectations. <<less

It's a really great novel, I wasn't particularly interested in reading this based in the description, and one day when I had nothing to do I started reading, I read all chapters in one day and I have to say that it surprised me. I can't say that I am a fan of action scenes but this novel has the most amazing and well structured battle system and techniques that I ever saw. This is a hidden gem worth reading.

Edit: I saw that there is some people who can't understand... more>> the attitude of the MC towards the princess, let me explain to you. First, Dragons are wild animals who possess intellect, and because of this they have an obsessive thirst for knowledge, Demons, using of this fact, ''tricked'' the dragons to mix both races. From this was born the Demons Dragons, the main villains of the novel, but as there always is evil humans, there also is good people in this race, they were called betrayers, and were or neutral or sided with humans, but because of the bad impression because the evil ones, during the war most were treated as a tool, and not a comrade, but the MC and his comrades treated them as real people and comrades, and with this we can see that the MC is very open minded, also after the war ended, humans as always, when there isn't a common enemy again war between themselves, these Demons Dragons that sided with human couldn't live between humans, until an kingdom made an alliance between them, in trade of theirs power in the war against others kingdoms, the kingdom would give an status to them live with humans, and the Demons Dragons made the royalty and nobles marry with some of theirs races, to preserve theirs bloodline, so the princess is an entirely new race between Humans, Dragons and Demons, so tell me, if the MC had comrades of the same race as the ones that he was at war against, why would he be aggressive toward the princess who wasn't of the same race as them? are you idiot? Serious... As you said that you "scanned" instead of reading, you must have missed those "unimportant interactions" that described in detail all that I talked here. <<less

This story is really annoying. Almost everything it did is annoying.

Characters talk too much. Like, they are about to be hit by a powerful attack but somehow is able to vomit a paragraph worth of monoloogue.

And the main character is all about being "cool" and "awesome" instead of being a character. His character and personality is just so unrelatable with his constant pretentious display of "coolness, " and he becomes really annoying really quick.

... more>> And the other characters are mostly there as audience to the MC's awesomeness, even the villains.

And the plot is just scenes after scenes of the MC showing off his awesomeness.

This is just a really shallow story. It is all flash without substance. Still, I could see this attracting a certain kind of demographic and this is mostly aimed at them. Otherwise, it has very little to offer in terms of story and artistry. <<less

I really like the concept of this story. An OP hero who wakes up with most of his powers gone, etc, basically regaining his power again (while fighting enemies). The story is pretty slow right now. I like the MC and the fact that he doesn't become instantly OP again after he wakes up. I love how everyone is so puzzled by the fact that he's so skilled but weak (he lost most of his physical strength/spirit order and needs time to build it back up). I really like his... more>> flashbacks and I'm dying for more because the current plot is slow. I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone's reactions to his identity (when/if that happens). There's no romance right now, and I would be okay if it continued that way, but apparently there's a love interest later on. <<less

This novel has several defining characteristics that, when added together, make it very enjoyable. First, the main character is fairly interesting. I can't say his character has been explored in depth yet (we mostly learn about him through dream-sequence flashbacks and snippets of witty conversation with the other characters), but this MC is level-headed, rational, and even kind, while still capable of utterly destroying his enemies when necessary.

As for the novel itself, I like the combat system quite a lot. It's not breathtakingly innovative, but still good. It's mostly... more>> just a variation on other commonly used tropes of warriors and mages and how the two combat styles relate to one another, but it leaves a very solid, balanced feeling with plenty of room for progression in either profession. Now, the best part of this novel is actually a combination of the two things I've mentioned already: the main character and the combat system. The combat system provides ample room for incredibly well-thought out plans and traps and the main character makes use of this as much as possible. I really have to praise the author on this, as I don't think I've ever read a novel where the author throws this many interesting ideas into combat this quickly. Even if you don't care at all for the rest of the novel, I would highly recommend it purely based on how satisfying the descriptions of fights can be. Not that it's terribly detailed (of course, it's not lacking in detail either), but the technicalities involved in the magic are wonderful. Very few writers can squeeze this much out of magic. The translation quality is good, though there are small grammar hiccups every now and then. These are, however, easily overlooked. <<less

Not really a review but I wanted to understand why I believed the bad reviews in the first place and avoided this novel. But first I just wanted to mention, as I got on the page, I noticed a tiny little thing. It was that the novel is categorized as a published novel. And that is when my mind went boom and everything started making sense. You see, most of the bad reviews likely came from those who have mostly read a plethora of web novels. The main characteristic of... more>> web novels to me, is that they flounder around being character driven plots and world driven plots yet lean towards a character driven plot (that and generally being lower quality than a published novel). It made sense for me to conclude that, WN readers aren’t used to stories that lean towards a world driven plot. And this novel is one of them (also why it made sense that it got published, a coherent world driven story is a sign of a good author). While we do have a main character to follow, when reading the novel we follow many PoVs yet I didn’t find it dissonant since the whole story is moving together properly and questions eventually get answered. If a story has multiple PoVs and a reader doesn’t feel lost in all of it, then imo that story is doing a good job of presenting the world. Anyways, the story can get a bit wordy and things get repeated, but overall it is a fun fantasy story to follow. While it does sound that I am excusing some of the author’s mistakes, I feel that they don’t detract too much from the experience. <<less

This novel is so good. Good world build, everything is logical, good fights, good characters interactions, Good planning. Both sides (hero and enemy) are fighting equally, not overwhelming each other. Many secrets are around.

If you are looking for an Fantasy novel of Demon King vs Hero, this is just the best thing I've ever read.

Spoiler

The MC lives up to his status as a Hero winning the biggest war. He is OP, only Altein, the Dragon Demon King can fight on par with him. But worry not, after 220 years of hibernation, he lost all his power. He is now not too OP, but also OP enough with his skills and his intelligence in battle. He is good at everything which is required for becoming better in fight or war. Other things are depended.

In the future you will also find out he wasn't the virg*n Hero like other stories, he truly lived like he could die tomorrow even when he is that OP. He banged every girls when they liked him and he liked them. He had descendants, but he didn't know about them until recently.

Until the recent time, the enemy did their best to be in the way of humanity's progressing, making them weaker than the past. However, I love how the author makes this relative, humanity got weaker, but it's not like they stopped getting better. While Humanity forgot many good things in the past due to what enemy did, there are many things which are better than the past things. In short, things from the past is not always suck, the future is not always better, but it's not always worse.

The detailed world build feels really realistic. It feels like all this should happen if it really existed IRL.

The story starts off interesting but does not really go anywhere. It just meanders around, padding pagecount. There is nothing really bad about the novel persay, but its definitely not a riveting read. Just interesting enough to pass the time if you have nothing better to do. Its a inoffensive "shounen"

I liked it.

Reminded me a bit of the New Gate: MC time travels to the future and finds alot of changes and tries to adapt.

The author addresses the issues of language and tech. Why somethings stayed the same and others didn't. He surprisingly did tell of why they did or did not change. I kind of liked how he treated those issues.

The MC didn't start off as perfectly OP, he actually has to start rebuilding his powers and abilities. And all the meanwhile the enemies abound and he has to... more>> use what he has currently in a smart manner.

So if you do like smarter MC and very very little harem. Is there even any harem? Not by my count at chapter 111.

Some humor, not too much face slapping.

Then you just might like this too. It did prove entertaining. <<less

This story I have to say (as of chapter 60) is very interesting. After having read various "Demon King vs Hero" fantasy world genres in light and web novels, I was looking around for stories which had unique elements incorporated into this troupe. And Dragon Maken War is definitely one of them! At least, in relations to one of the light novels I've been trying to read all week (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu) I've managed to read through the chapters without much of a hassle since it was a... more>> very interesting read.

Story:

Right from the start of the prologue, in its literal first lines the reader is introduced to the concept where Demons and Dragons have merged to become a higher being called "Dragon Demons". (Yeah, I never really read the synopsis properly before starting this, so just this line alone got me hooked) Then as the story focuses on the POV of the risen hero from his slumber, it shows his life events many years into the future as he starts from the very beginning steps of regaining his body health back.

Some readers may initially feel that the story pace is a bit slow at the beginning, which I admit I sort of feel it spent a little more than a few chapters just for the protagonist to gain the basics of his body's strength back. But the interaction between the characters in which the protagonist meet were rather interesting and refreshing to read, as the mentions of the world concept (magic, kingdoms, etc) were as usual nicely integrated during this phase. I especially like the concept of magic and fighting styles this world had to offer, where the humans' use and warriors called "Spirit Order Practitioners" were very interesting to read about, in comparison to normal magics I've read across in other novels or manga.

The battles had a pretty good amount of action, where I loved the mind games and stealthy plays in which the protagonist employed in his battles in a new era. While the protagonist may have knowledge of complex skills, given his former life as a hero, he has to start from the very beginning, and thus he is not completely overpowered as Saitama or Yuu Yashiro (from Senai Yuusha) in his battles.

Characters:

The characters on the other hand, are not that interesting or appealing to me as of yet. It might either be because it's only been 60 chapters, or that I've come across characters that absolutely shone such as in the novel "Altina the Sword Princess"; there wasn't any characters which, apart from the protagonist or his old allies, that stood out to me. Partly because, as I agree with the protagonist's way of thinking, in that a good majority of knights, magicians, and warriors in the world is... well... you'll just have to find out for yourself and see why I'm putting this statement forth.

Apart from that, the characters in the novel follows the generic templates of enemies being arrogant, protagonist group being simplistic in nature given the setting of fantasy world. But surprisingly, given the amount of knight and noble characters which were introduced to us thus far, there weren't many conspiracies or "Noble prejudice" character moments that occurred, which was refreshing.

Conclusions: Would I recommend this novel? Absolutely! While this novel does follow the stereotypical route of "Hero vs Demons", except without reincarnation from Japan or Korea, the magic/fighting system and battles were a very interesting read! I love how the author took his time into developing an interesting magic system, and even if the first fights were considered "low level" in terms of the protagonist's eyes, it made me all that more interested into seeing how his fights would be like if he fully regained his former powers. <<less
