Quite enjoyed this. The MC bringing knowledge of magic from an alternate modernity is a really neat concept and the author pulls it off pretty well.

Recommendation: Arcane Emperor

I recommend Arcane Emperor on Royal Road for anyone who enjoyed this or this to anyone who enjoyed Arcane Emperor. Similar concept if different execution: mage in from a family of hidden mages in modern Earth society goes to a fantasy world and has ridiculous OP powers.

... more>> Warning 1: His Latin sucks

So yeah, he actually MC Latin in his spells, which is kind of cool for a JP novel, and there's a bit of a HP Lovecraft/ancient occult references going on. Don't get too excited though: his Latin is mumbo jumbo that's half made up and his ancient occult references are not developed much (where I am at any rate, might be later). Don't read this if you're gonna get hung up over his inspired, but clumsily executed magic system.

Warning 2: Moe culture and harem

Like most other JP novels, there's a lot of moe culture in this one. You have a tsundere mage prodigy, a loli love interest (not underage which makes it somewhat better), the cold military state soldier, and all sorts of other archetype harem characters.

Romance

Despite the harems and archetypes though, the author doesn't do a bad job at the romance. The romance isn't falling in love with some vapid character at first sight. Some characters don't even appear like they'll be love interests early on, the relationship with the loli starts with her not in loli form, and develops pretty nicely with some hard decisions and building of trust.

Don't misunderstand - this isn't some great romance, but for a shounen series' romantic subplot in a harem series, this is pretty good. The harem is also very slow to develop, which is makes it a bit less vapid.

Demons

Finally a JP fantasy novel where the demons are actually demons! An evil god actually seems evil as of chapter 77, as her minions mindlessly kill and bully humanity. There have been some hints of succubus in the mix as well, but judging by the curse they left, it's not the "oh, MC, you're so sexy" type succubus. We'll have to see how it is going forward, but so far so evil.

The OP MC

The MC is OP, but the plot isn't totally destroyed as the MC usually tries to hide his powers. A lot of the series is about his reveals, his analysis of the fantasy world's magic system or his running around in the shadows trying to figure out what's going on.

Satire (?)

I'm not quite sure if the author intends too, but the whole sub-plot with the riajuu "Hero" and his harem of princess and childhood friend is a pretty light and satirical side story, poking fun at some of the Hero plot cliches.

Good action packed novel so far. <<less

All the idiots complaining about mc’s meekness are morons.

MC uses proper manners befitting a high power discussing things diplomatically with a foreign power. And a lot of his corrections in speach are less of corrections and more of hitting people where it hurts while correcting himself so that they have no excuse for objecting to his words.

This is not a novel about an arrogant as*hole of an MC who kills anyone who doesn’t act like his personal b*tch.

It's a good novel for me. I don't really enjoy harem, but, forget that. The plot is intriguing, with nice development. There are mysteries here and there, like, what exactly is the MC, etc. Basically, it's good novel.

For me, the only problem is: Why is it on hiatussss ?! Author-san...!

Pretty decent story, I like it. The writing is solid and none of the characters feel like stereotypes. Nor do they feel useless like in a lot of isekai. The "heroes" that got summoned for instance neither hate the main character, Suimei, nor are they strangely useless. Instead, they respect his opinions and decisions and train enough to become pretty strong in their own right. The writing can get a bit too descriptive for my tastes, but it's well developed and you can tell the author put a lot of... more>> research and effort into the writing.

The translation unfortunately kinda sucks. Skywood did a good job on the LN, and Kazama for the WN. But the current WN translation by American Faux is rather bad. Just going through the first three paragraphs of c35, I'm looking at over a dozen translation errors. Some of them pretty bad too. The WN is pretty densely written and not something a beginner should try to translate, and when the translator is mistaking names of cities with other things and just skipping whatever they don't understand it's pretty clear they're not up to the task. It's readable enough so you can give it a shot if you want, but just understand that it's almost a complete rewrite in some places and it's definitely not a translation I can recommend. <<less

From "Heh this world magic is too far behind" to, "Heh so I need to use a particular magic to defeat Demons" and then becomes, "Heh Darkness magic huh? Well even if it can penetrate my shield, I can use this particular magic to repel that" but then suddenly, "alsdkhfaksjdfl;akjsdfasdflakjErroralksjdfasdflkj I suddenly becomes shitty magician who knows no-tactic because of this loli who is raging and her power is out of control. I should use my previous magic to save her but like I said I became s*upid sh*t magician... more>> who can't even think worse scenario despite of my proud and f*cking oh-so-overpowered-magic-knowledge, so I get caught in situation so cliche that I myself want to puke."

I really enjoy this LN, but it becomes shitty after this vol 3. Maybe it would be better, but f*ck I am not gonna read it anymore. If you expect a badass Suimei Yakagi, just read untill vol 2, then forget it or you will find this f*cking chapter who he suddenly became sh*t character like other harem protagonists with a shitty cause. <<less

I like the story but the authors explanations and back story/flashbacks are convoluted, repetitive and long winded. Get to the point!

The bad part is the translations. This is so disorganized it's a pain to try and figure out. It's one thing to stop translation it's another to delete content. Then the people who try and fill the gaps (bless their pathetic souls) skip around and leave chapters out without any rhyme or reason. If you are skipping a chapter because someone already translated it then link to it. Though they... more>> usually leave no indication that that was why the skipped it so it's just a guess.

Edit. There is a Spanish translator and goggle translate does a good job with Spanish to English translations compared to Japanese so if you are hard up for missing chapters you can always search for that. <<less

Does anyone even hate this? I think only a few portion of the novel is translated so it's too early for judgement, well at least for me, this has a quite a lot of potential, the author shows a 'bad' hypocrite protagonist, the type who failed to enact their justice. Then limits it by showing a slightly 'strong' enemies, not to mention the existence more effective than him, then divided attention between the supposed-to-be protagonist while having a slightly 'mysterious' strong guy, the author could choose which concept to go... more>> with and still making it potent because regarding the bad, he could correct his reasoning in action, regarding the strong, he could emphasize the actions, and regarding the mysterious, he can add tense effect through the other side reaction through his action. Thinking abou it most novels which contains excitement are outline with one the three premise. Judging from state of volume one I think his going slow within a small setting making this very detailed packing out climax, conlusion, resolution on a single volume, that's why it can also be drawn out. <<less

My rating: 5/10.
Ahhhhhhh, I sorta messed up by pressing 2 star by accident. I wanted to put 3 stars cause it's towards good than bad for me.

I can't tell if this is good or bad. Oh, don't get me wrong, the plot is ok MC is fine for me, but I think it's towards the word "predictable". There are too much foreshadowing in the story which make me find this novel not that enjoyable. I find the author trying very hard to make the series interesting, sadly, I find... more>> that he leaks too much of the main plotline to the point where I can guess what's going to happen next (maybe it's just me here thinks so).

Maybe, not for everyone here thinks this way but if the description of the story sparks your interest, you should try to read as you may or may not like either the story or MC. <<less

Very, very nice. The characters are very well fleshed-out and the plot is good. My only complaint is that the chapters are a bit disordered, but that can be easily fixed. XD

What I like about the novel:

Great premise, magician from our world comes into another world whose magic is much worse than his and goes on an adventure. Of course life isn't smooth sailing, for some reason his magic doesn't work on the demons in the new world so it's not just coasting through life which is great.

Interactions and character development is definitely one of the best. No such thing as girls falling for the MC on their first meeting just because. There is enough time spent with the characters where... more>> they don't feel like a certain troupe.

Translations, now that it's picked up by SkyTheWood is definitely going to be high quality.

Only con I can think of would be that the translation speed may be somewhat slow, but you have great quality to make up for that <<less

This is my impression so far with this novel (Ch 25). So far, I personally rate this novel as 4.5 out of 5

This novel is about a magus who was transported as an extra baggage, along with the hero, into the world where the magic aren't as developed as the modern (MC's) world but wait, even though his magic is, by far, more advanced than the level of that parallel world, it doesn't mean that his magic is better at dealing with that world's problem that the current world's magic... more>> system (so far).

There's a hint that the MC might be able overcome this problem (okay, lets bold the "might" part there...) and also, there's a hint that this novel will be tagged with tragedy.

First thing that you would notice with this novel is the slightly thick wall of words. Second thing, is how well it was well phrased (wellp, im not quite sure if this is the work of the author or the translator team, but the constant writing style even when the translation team change makes me think that it's the work of the author. but still, hats off to the translation team who is doing a superb work in showing that) and well written, with close to none useless detail and not dragging things to long.

This novel is quite thorough with its depictions of details, such as emotional depiction of characters, the universe's condition, the MC's social relation with his friends and surroundings, and mostly, MC's inner monologue and thought process.

The author also quite detail with the technical explanation of the magic's theory that was being used. quite, because it's not as detailed as Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, but more like to aru majutsu-ish (explaining what culture is the magic system was based of, instead of how the magic system used would manipulate physical phenomenon).

It's quite fun and refreshing, since the author explain how the MC's magic system is more advanced than the current world in a technical way. Surprisingly, even though the author really care that much about details, the author didn't really succeed in depicting the battle scene. It's feels as if you're reading naruto (shipuden) all over again. The battle would abruptly interrupted with skill explanation and how this skill (mainly magic) is absurd within the otherworld's POV, and this, would be depicted in dialogue instead of naration

Spoiler

think of it as this
>MC use magic
>magic system is different from the world'd system
>enemy A is confused
>"wtf with that magic? it's literally imposible!"
>MC is confused why it's possible, as if the common knowledge of his magic system should be obvious, while he understand that the otherworld magic system is different
>MC's ally explain why his magic is absurd
>MC explain how his magic system work, and continues on about how their magic system is different
>enemy A left dumbfounded
>reader was left out, expecting for the battle to be continued

[collapse]

The overly technical and attention to detail kills the previously built up mood for the battle scene and it's quite disappointing (for me, at least).

If I had to compare, I think I can say that this novel quite reminds me of harry potter and "to aru majutsu" with less fan service, comedic tone, and less satisfying battle scene (just like harry potter's last battle in the movie).

It really is a good read, with a lot of potential. <<less

I rather like the fact that it's a "hero summoning" with a twist: the hero's friend who isn't granted powers by the summoning, was actually already quite skilled on his own. This doesn't really count as a spoiler since it's revealed in the first chapter, but...
Spoiler

The fact that he's a clandestine practitioner of magic in his original (earth) world is quite interesting, I think. Especially the fact that he can beat the crap out of the local mages.

i really feel bad for those who missed out on 30 31 32 and in the future 33.

Spoiler

Because the MC f*cks sh*t up.

[collapse]

There is a bit of fragmented backstory that gets fed to the reader piecemeal, so you don't really fully understand the MC until like chapter 28. But at the same time, the MC is capable of changing, and he indeed changes in a big way. It comes at a point in the story where the reader is like,
Spoiler

"ok why is the MC so arrogant, he can't even kill a single demon with his fire magi...... ohh............... damn".

[collapse]

but the author really makes it seem organic. Yes the MC is already OP, but he has an actual good reason for hiding his abilities for once. Everything just makes sense and is logical its so satisfying to read. I've seen others say that the MC's actions don't make sense, and to that I say, have you actually paid attention and remembered the circumstances?

yes it isnt a perfect story, but its a 5 for me simply because its entertaining while also managing to deal with mature themes such as failure, depression, and disillusioned beliefs. It may sound pretentious and cringey, but the idea of strength coming from within really resonated with me. There is real effort in this story, at least as far as ive read. If you arent sure about this, at least read until chapter 30. <<less

Besides the fact that chapters 31, 32 and 33 seem to have fallen into a black hole, the amount of detailed technical information regarding magic schools and lineage makes one wonder if the author is trying to kill the readers of boredom and\or test the patient of same readers.

Not to mention the attitude of the MC of apologizing for each and everything that happens, the eternal and interminable inner monologue poses the readers in an uncomfortable position to consider if it would be right to keep reading or drop it... more>> altogether.

I feel inclined towards the latter. <<less

This novel is amazing first reason is. The fight is so realistic that even the forum you can see the flame of the battle and as a reader you will feel the despair of the fight lol.

Second reason is it created the first civil war of translators and readers. So many blood has been spilled and so many forums are been flamed which is later called "Paid vs Free vs Donation War". Jokes aside the biggest downside of this novel is it got to popular. So it got heated in... more>> many ways.

I will credit this novel for the hate, fear and flames it has created for this community. Loo

Score 5/5 thanks to this Paid vs Free vs Donation got properly divided and later paid got expelled in this community. Haha <<less
