Well, your typical fanfic novel, though this one is unique on its own for that matter. Ecchi, harem, all shown at the beginning to bait any reader before it fades away and then comes back for a few paragraphs a couple of times for every few hundred chapters.

Written by an otaku who liked a story but did not lived up to making it go beyond the awful and ultra generic japanese anime style of writing and manga, that's not bad, but when the whole novel is based in such and... more>> with contradictions as well as *takes d*ck out* random sudden new laws, changes and realities that just alter about anything and makes the power levels and system totally braindead useless *slams it against the table*; because. <<less

Not sure why this web novel received 4 stars. MC is weak, being able to contract with many generals but not sure what benefits it provides MC as he can’t finish off any opponent. All his techniques are useless and is so confusing. Not even sure what’s his strength are. For example all his flying swords are easily dispelled. For some reason he learns Buddhism techniques which are also weak. In summary weak MC who acts like he has morals.

It seems like an interesting novel that draws inspiration from Water Margin (I did not know much about it) and tells the story of MC and his harem to win the "Royal Rumble" of Liangshan. MC is generally interesting with a set of principles that he follows strictly (like not having s*x under the influence of aphrodisiac as of ch. 193) and his harem do not seem to be the typical clingy and need-to-be saved characters (they bailed his ass many times).

What made me stop reading the novel is that... more>> I just could not get immersed into the novel. I know that the translator is doing his best but I think his insistence to keep everything as close to the whatever is in the raw did not help with the reading experience, especially when the novel was based on a Chinese classic and written for Chinese readers in the first place. As a result, you see infodump without explanations, techniques with 5+ words all over the place, and the worst of all, 3 different names for a single character (the Star Maiden usually has 1 true name, 1 title, and 1 alias). I feel that simplifying things would have made the English version way more readable. On top of that, it did not help that the author was sloppy and mostly employ deus ex machina to enable MC to overcome his crisis. <<less

If you ask me what story this one similar to then the answer is Sekirei!

For me, the story is good enough character are ok and while harem is pretty much mirror sekirei in someway, the MC is much more badass than Minato by a huge margin as he processes a perfect fusion of the Modern Human Mind set and Xianxia cultivation mentality.

Overall the entire novel kept me interested from the start of the novel to the latest chapter of 22. I liked the concept of Star Master's and Star Maidens. I will admit that it did attract me allowing me to stay interested but at the same time there is still something missing from it. Sure the character development and plot makes me very interested in the entire novel itself but at the same time it doesn't feel like it has a drive at all.
