This story started out good but the author doesn't seem to have any idea what is doing. If I had to resume this in topics than it would be like this:

Spoiler

- Dislikeable Main Character:

She doesn't earn anything by herself. Every single power-up, treasure or whatever rare item exists on DKCW's universe its easily obtained without Su Luo having to work a sweat or suffer to obtain it. Moreover the plot-armor is ridiculously inconsistent and even though she is supposed to be a former assassin she doesn't act like one. Both her psych and behavior remembers me of a little kid trying to act mature but failing.

- Horrible side characters -

The topic says it all. There's not a single character on the story who isn't archetypal. The bullies are the same as ever with their beloved howls of #inserts obnoxious voice# "Are you seeking death?!" "Die tr*sh"!
Because I'm a xianxia-tr*sh I was not really surprised or had my sensibility offended for the lack of effort the author put in writing the villains:

1. There isn't a single female character who is written on a positive light, besides Su Luo herself. Every single female on this story follows this pattern: 1.1 Loves Nangong Liuyun and hates Su Luo 1.2 Looks down on Su Luo but is interested in getting Nangong Liuyun.

2. Also, if you are a male character than you also fall in this two categories: 2.1 Familiar of the villainess thus an as*hole by association 2.2 Like/admires Su Luo at first sight with no reason or logical explanation.

If you mix the two topics together you will have the tension of this story. Villainess offends Su Luo/ wants to steal love interest; MC or Love interest humilliates villainess; villainess wants revenge; drags family but ends up humilliated or losing life/body part.

3. Nangong Liuyun is an abusive as*hole bordering Gary Stu territory. In the begining his macho-front and the soft side reserved for Su Luo was kind of cute but now... now I want a weapon to shoot him if I ever manage to crossover to his world. He is forceful and doesn't respect Su Luo at all or other people besides himself, which makes him unlikeable to me.

[collapse]

The only good thing about DKCW is the translator. Alyshu has been doing a great work, not only he has an excelent work ethic - it means the chapters are released as scheduled or at least he will update his status - but also its well edited. <<less

This novel is extremely long-winded and the same thing happens over and over again. Of all the people the main character meets, 9 out of 10 want to kill her. The description of the plot should rather be about how the main character flee for her life one time after another and always manages to escape death. It's almost ironic how she is described as someone extremely lucky, when she always manages to make enemies wherever she goes. And even more ironic is her beauty. After her true appearance as a peerless beauty is revealed, she gains even more enemies and many of them are admires of jealous women, whose beauty are inferior. It's weird how none of the admires fall in love with the main character, when they admire the jealous women exactly because of their beauty.

Well In the beginning it started out pretty good, the typical plot where female lead is an assassin etc. dies then is reincarnated into another girl's body that is bullied etc. and sometimes you just want to slap the female lead (苏落) since like.... every time she gets in trouble the male lead (南宫流云) comes to save her and then gets heavily injured/ almost dies. After like reading up to 1600+ chapters (in Chinese) and skimming up to 2000+ I just got really annoyed and pissed off. The SAME THING IS JUST LIKE REPEATING OVER AND OVER IT'S GOING NO WHERE!!! -v- well right now it's at 7140 chapters, don't know if people have to the interest to read that many chapters but just GL to anyone reading this novel

I just HATE how the ML manipulating FL (including US as the reader) since the begining.

JUST BECAUSE HE'S A PRINCE BORN WITH HANDSOME FACE, ADMIRAL STATUS WITH GOOD ABILITY.. Everyone on his side... all his friend, his bodyguard... Even his servants and ppl around him, Manipulating her, Blaming her when something bad or injury on him...

All saying, she (FL) are "using" him (ML), BUT IN REAL FACT, He's the one who to Manipulate her EVER SINCE HE FOUND OUT SHE'S Have Some Potential.

He even leave his "old-love-sweetheart-FairyJadeLake" (read the chapter... more>> 377)

Spoiler

In fact, he and Li Yaoyao had grown up together since they were little, as a man, he was not a vegetable, to say he didn't have even a little feeling for her, how could it be possible?

It was only because she and Luo girl could not coexist at the same time, so he had no choice but to make a selection.

[collapse]

On other hand, since the begining, the FL 'gain-her-inner-potential' ALL BY HER SELF!! She's fighting life to death with luck gaining herself a contract beast. And then, with her contract beast help, she's gain more and more treasure!!

Unlike that Shitty-ML... Beside manipulating her! He also make some Enemy for her! MAke some people chase for her life because of him! Certainly!! THIS TYPE OF GUY DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE RIGHT TO GET LOVE FROM (NOT ONLY ANY GIRL!) THE FL!! <<less

originally I really loved this novel. It was the first one I ever read. It introduced me to the joys of this genre and c-novels in general. I truly enjoyed reading it at first.

however its a hazard to read I the long run. Most of the time the main character is just running away from enemies for multiple chapters and all I want is some progress in the story. Also, its not a very well planned story. There are alot of ideas that are introduced but then the author forgets... more>> about them. Even if the author wants us to pretend it no longer exists, I cant pretend. And example of this was where the white puppy looking dragon was able to give her a speed up bonus for running away. It was so random and then the concept just disappeared like it was forgotten. There was also a man that was introduced as destined to be her servant due to an item she had. He had the ability to see the color of spirit stones (i dont remember what they are called) and pick the best ones to give them to her, but he was forgotten and just disappeared. Too many people or concepts are introduced just to be forgotten and the inconsistency kills me.

also, this novel has over 10, 000 chapters now. Alot of the chapters are pointless and filled with useless details just making a sloppy novel. The slang used is fun to read in translation but it is impossible to read in mtl. This leaves you with the only choice to read the translation and honestly, the translators are really money grubbing for the impossibly short chapters that they post. Longer novels have been completed while this one is not even at 2000 yet after so long <<less

Review at chapter 600+

How to say ? Among the previous negative reviews, there's alot of truth but also many exaggerations (probably due to the annoyance) . This is understandable.

Basically, DKC is not a bad novel. The prose is correct, the universe is rich... in short, it's a standard story that isn't fabulous, but not terrible either. Moreover, this is a xianxia with a female MC (a good combo).

But then comes the problem... The story is monotonous, repetitive and it becomes increasingly boring through the chapters. To summarize: Su Luo is... more>> offended by someone and will resolve the offense by stricking back (must also say that the world around her seems filled with only degenerate narcissistics. Is the author a persecuted person ? Because his world view seems a bit one-sided) . Moreover, it's always a story about " how to beat and humiliate her rivals ? ". I wonder if there is still a goal behind iall of this. All rivals are 1D and I can't spot any interesting side character so far.

And to make matters worse, the MC's cultivation is so slow that after 600 chapters, she still cannot stand as equals with NL and continues to be protected. How pathetic ! She has so much luck and she can't gain anything from it ? How lousy. Looks like the author wants to lag forever on this conflictual relationship where NL is an annoying spoiled brat and SL a useless and spoiled woman with a pit in the brain (NL too).

The MC is supposed to be a skilled assassin (cold, mature, independant, strong) but I can only see a young woman who has no conception of what a s*xual relationship is. She spends her time drooling over NL and it seems like she will never be better than NL. Isn't she supposed to have a unique talent in terms of cultivation ? But NL is as fast if not faster.

Conclusion : Epic fail. <<less

These novels are a guilty pleasure, I must embarrassingly admit. But the thing that rubs me up the wrong way is that 90% of these types of novels where the fML claims to be a *strong, cunning and ruthless* assassin is false, it's a big fat lie. It's irritating. The story is good until the point where they meet the ml. It's f*cking s*upid, they turn into a weak simpering damsel in distress that can't focus when the chauvinistic male looks their way. Especially in this novel! Our fML was... more>> legit KILLED by her last boo and she still is lovey dovey with this disgusting guy. Do Chinese authors enjoy creating rude, arrogant, annoying and positively RAPISH mls?? Is that a hot thing there? It's insulting to the female gender and insulting to the fML she's created, have some self respect damnit. He never takes no for an answer, threatens that he will "cut her wings so she can't fly away" and has threatened to kill himself many times if the fML doesn't like him, he throws tantrums like a 5 year old and has no emotional maturity, he is absolutely DISGUSTING. Is there not one respectful and kind guy in this genre? If not then I'd rather the fML be single or lesbian, not even jk. Had to stop reading several times bc of how irritating the ML was. Another irritating part is the fML is a spoiled brat, she is pathetically weak, always relying on her man to save her. Multiple times she could've killed her enemy yet she leaves them alive so that they can chase her again and again. At this point, I prefer Zi Yan. She always runs like a coward, and at the end, someone or something else saves her like her master, the ml, her spirit pets, her luck etc.. Compared to this tr*shy novel, rebirth of the empress is much better. <<less

Hmm clearly we all have different opinions about this novel. I'm very picky on what I read that if there's no proper plot or interesting things enough in the summary I will pay no mind to it.

However, I like this novel. First of all, I like how loyal the main male lead is, even how the author wrote Nangong Liuyun's love for the main female lead was quite refreshing.

Secondly, I like Su Lou and Nangong Liuyun's relationship. Unlike most romance manga's I've read Su Lou didn't helplessly fall in love... more>> with the male lead immediately. She obviously didn't want to have anything to do with him in the first place *laughs*. The next thing I knew I felt they were my OTP.

I confirmed this when,
Spoiler

that third wheel Ouyang-something came. I was so frustrated with it that when I caught up in the novel, after binge reading it for a while, I cried in bed, whining how I wished I found this novel a bit more late because the wait was destroying my heart. It was super annoying.

[collapse]

To be honest, I've read some of the post reviews and I do believe that it was quite annoying how almost all of the characters would hate Su Lou and there's no character development for most of them. Either they are killed in the end or would meet a tragedy later on. But, the novel isn't even halfway translated yet so we don't know if it would change in the future.

The only reason why I'm holding on to this long novel (it's not even half way translated) is because I'm curious about Su Lou and Nangong Liuyun's relationship. I want to know the ending you know?I kind of feel like it's just starting, I mean I might drop it later on out of annoyance (I do it alot) but for now I'm so looking forward to it that I check it everyday even while at class.

UPDATED: Still alive!! And at chapter 1009! I still am looking forward for every update. Especially now that something interesting is happening. I AM SO HYPED. <<less

Highly recommended to read. Although the novel does- almost at every point of time- piss its readers off with its endless descriptions of meaningless hot guys; the characters are interesting and so is the story in itself albeit with flaws that don't really matter. It's that good, yea. It basically depicts a reincarnated female assassin that thrives for power to protect herself. She handles the a**holes around her well with wit and power (that comes later on). Cold, calm, and somewhat overpowered, I'd say. She starts of weak at first... more>> but soon rises in power after a major discovery in her talents (with the help of yours truly). Warning though, the chapters are short. Like, SHORT with many cliffhangers. The male MC is also a very loving, overpowered guy with major mood swings and mental issues. You'd be trapped in between the lines of supporting him or not in his love for the MC. I mean, he sucks at wooing the only one he likes. There's also a very adorable baby dragon for the boost in recommendation. Cuteness is love, cuteness is life. Awfully addictive too. NGXSL for life! <<less

I am currently enamored with the strength of the female lead despite what earlier reviews have claimed. Instead of being a dependent and wimpy MC who count on other people for protection (i.e the influence and power of the male lead), in fact, the female protagonist is pretty cunning in protecting herself and her reputation from people who want to harm her. I love the way the female lead again and again retrieve her justice through her smarts in front of people who has negative bias toward her. My only... more>> question is why the supporting characters who goes to bully our MC wouldn’t just learn from their humiliation (but I guess that’s okay because I love the way our MC takes it upon herself to carry out her revenge and dealt tenfold the people that dare scheme against her). I love that our female protagonist continually surprise the people around her, and although I admit that some of the MC’s current strength could be attribute to her luck, a good deal of her power and influence are something you repeatedly have to prove to the people around her through her ingenuity and her own efforts. Needless to say, I love the novel, too bad the translation is only at ~300 ish chapters. I recommend wholeheartedly this novel to anyone who is looking to read a story about a badass female protagonist!!!! Guys, I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m really passionate about this story, so everyone should give it a try. <<less

Plot: Su Luo gets transmigrated after being betrayed in her past life. After being portrayed as a legendary assassin, she's reduced to becoming the pet of some random unlikable guy. Starting from kissing her the first time he saw her, every time he meets her he will force himself on her who still has a broken heart, he will hug her and kiss her while she can't break free even though she mentions how she doesn't want to. This girl is invaluable due to the cheat items she possesses, but... more>> she has no idea how to use them, and our only focus is to see how the random unlikable guy gets more OP and this legendary assassin gets more useless. Still, he will not hesitate to get hurt in order to blackmail her to stay with him, and everyone always thinks he's in the right compared to her.

As for my own thoughts... The male lead, Nangong Liuyun, is being favored over the main character, which is the biggest flaw of this story. Readers don't really like feeling oppressed for too long, and after 145 chapters and from what I can tell through other reviews; for the rest of the story, this will not change. There's absolutely nothing positive about this man so far. He doesn't respect Su Luo's opinion, and has thoughts about breaking her completely to stay with him. Meanwhile we have to watch as Su Luo regresses as a person, and turns from a strong woman into an obedient little mouse of a wife (with a squeaky attitude). I was so surprised and disappointed finding out the author is a woman, even if this is a story she's made up it sounds too much like the chauvinistic man's fantasy of how to break a wild girl and turn her into a docile doll that only pays attention to him.

In short, I wouldn't recommend it. I appreciate the translation though. <<less

The first couple of chapters weren't amazing but it was readable and a bit entertaining however as the story goes on the Smart Female Lead tag fits less and less. Basically the story becomes "you dare to insult me watch as I beat you to the ground using my amazing cheats". By that time I could basically predict what would happen next whenever she meets a antagonist character.

Finally stopped reading after around chapter 620. This is not a cultivation novel. The cultivation leveling mechanic itself is probably the most generic and poor mechanic I've ever come across in any cultivation novel. It's a generic/cheap romance novel with a thin disguise. Yet another female MC who gets violated (kissed/hugged/grabbed/groped/ other initmate things) by a guy, except the guy is so good looking it doesn't really matter to her. Oh, he also has some sort of tragic past, so it's ok for him to have his way with her.... more>> It's that same old weird fantasy some girls have, wanting to be treated like garbage. I'd say about half of these chapters are about the guy being disgustingly possessive and treating her like an object while the MC kind of "resists", but really doesn't.

Honestly, novels like this cheapen women everywhere. Just another woman taken advantage of. Oh and before I hear complaints, I'm a guy, not a girl.

Anyway, if you're looking for a good cultivation novel, no scratch that. If you're looking for a cultivation novel at all, this is not a good choice. Only reason I picked it up was due to how many chapters are currently out. Not worth it. Not worth it one bit.

UPDATE: Read more chapters, now pretty much caught up with it. The main character is such a disappointment. She acts like she's this amazing cold hearted assassin, but for some reason, her enemies almost NEVER die. They try to kill her? She cons them out of some money. They try to kill her? She embarrasses them in front of people.

... This is the cold hearted assassin? Someone and that someone's family tried to kill her close to 10 times, and she never says "Hey, let's just kill this person and be done with it". I'd understand if her character was one who didn't like to kill, but she brags about how she can kill without worrying about anything way too much. Also, no matter what damage she inflicts on her enemies, they came back completely fine a bunch of chapters later. Oh, their face got scarred and now they're ugly? Give it 20 chapters and they're good as new. Lost a hand and now they're crippled? Give it 15 chapters. Corrosive acid poured on them? 30 chapters! Not a blemish!

It's like the author got stuck on a couple villains they're in love with, so they keep bringing them back like it's some weekly cartoon super hero show. Won't even get into how it seems like EVERY person they meet wants to kill the MC within 10 minutes. The author really doesn't know what he/she's doing. They're floundering. <<less

It was pretty good at first but as the story goes longer it becomes really repetitive, and the worst part is, the MC is always entangled by people who is much more stronger than her. It really annoys me when the MC is always getting caught by enemies and even the villains despise her, they do not kill her which is really unreasonable. Cite for an example the Jade Fairy, She's pretty much stronger than the MC, and several times, She caught the MC, having the chance to kill her,... more>> she instead talk sh*t and stuff, oh come on, if you have feud with someone you hate to the bones, and if you have the chance to get rid of her/him you should act decisively, but the villains are all dumbfuvker who only knew how to talk. Another thing that pisses me off, the MC is all talk with no power to back it up. Example, provoking a super power clan without realizing its consequences, Even if she's talented, why provoke a powerful enemy which can kill you by just flicking their finger, why not just lay low and build up her strength and when the time comes, plan for revenge? And the author just always telling us readers that she is really intelligent and whatnot, where's the intelligence in this? It is seriously su*cide! All in all, the first early chapters are good, but the longer it takes the longer I realize how brainless the MC is. <<less

The plot is none! I feel as if this novel was something written in the author's free time with them having no plan whatsoever and just rolling with whatever came to mind. If you use that reasoning the novel is good enough. A good little novel to read when you are bored. That's it

The female lead, Su Luo, is an assassin who reincarnates into another world after being betrayed by the person she loved. Waking up in a weak body, she attracts the attention of the male lead, Nangong Liuyun, due to her calculating manner and alternates between relying on his protection and becoming strong in her own right.

Review
Spoiler

DKC is a long series and the backstory develops quite slowly. The plot is very typical – strong woman reincarnates in a weak body and slowly takes revenge. The genre is a mix of romance and xianxia, with one of the story’s strengths being how fluid the plot and universe are in balancing the two (the other strengths are the female lead and the story's momentum). Compared to the rigid and bureaucratic power levels that usually exist, the initial introduction of 10 ranks is more than sufficient for now and the author avoids dumping mass amounts of information at once. While the romance is somewhat lacking so having fight scenes allows the readers to take a break from the cheesiness - this also works in reverse - without the flirting, it's just SL constantly running or getting beaten up.

The story itself should logically be 2/5 or 3/5 if you analyze it, but it feels like a 4 or 5 when you get caught up in it. There are some glaring weaknesses (i.e. overdoing the descriptions of the male lead, the messed up relationship between the main couple and inconsistencies in the plot and power levels, while the main couple are petty and cruel) but the female lead is interesting to follow and the male lead does get better.

[collapse]
Characters and Relationship
Spoiler

SL currently still weak in terms of power but she is smart and ruthless, and can protect herself when needed. She has the potential to grow but also won’t lose out regardless of her situation... or at least she's good at running. While she has her pride she’s not overly arrogant or easily agitated like wuxia and xianxia leads. She also does a good job of integrating herself into the new world and learning how to survive in it, something that DOP very much lacks. However when she interacts with NL, she seems mostly to rely on him, while her actual strength progresses relatively slowly compared to other xianxia series but it’s expected since its a different world. Her wins as an underdog also feel more intense than dominating weaker opponents.

NL is meant to be equally ruthless, but unrivaled in strength. He’s usually cold and indifferent towards everyone, but is obsessed over SL. The best way to interpret him is as an overgrown child with limited human interaction but has always gotten his way, who's finally found a playmate he enjoys being with. At the start, he’ll treat her like a toy (hence the be mine or be broken attitude) but this approach changes as he realizes things aren’t working out the way he planned and comes to care about her feelings (but also because she starts reciprocating so he doesn’t have that fear of rejection). Despite all his other flaws, the greatest one is that he’s unreliable – when SL’s life is actually in danger he’s always sick or MIA. However it’s usually the times when she grows the most...

The main couple is currently very unbalanced and warped, with SL mostly relying on NL and spending most of her time fending off his affections. While NL coddles and sexually harasses her but looks down on everyone else. It’s one-sided until maybe 400 chapters in, where it starts to improve. Weirdly enough though, after a while they do seem somewhat compatible, simply because SL can only trust someone who’s singlemindedly dedicated to her, while NL happens to fit this. And she needs a break from all the running.

[collapse]
The story is quite normal given the genre and has obvious flaws, but it’s a fun and interesting read, especially when SL is alone and can act as unrestrained as she wants. The author also baits us by having each scene split into two chapters - thus never ending cliffhangers. However the romance is a bit of a drag. Though this is only the beginning of a very long series and improves as SL gets stronger and NL’s mental age catches up to his physical age. Also would be good if they had smarter and less forgetful opponents, since they always fall for the same tricks. <<less

I can't even remember how many chapters of this I read - well past the 2000 area I believe, and good lord do I have so many regrets. I read the raws because I wanted to see if it got any better and... yeah, nah fam.

First off, it has 10, 000+ chapters so that should tell you how utterly drawn out this entire story is. It is a story full of BS, rage-inducing moments and the s*upidest logic I've ever seen.

The heroine and the ML go through all these s*upid... more>> misunderstandings over a bunch of s*upid stuff that I honest to god should have dropped this crap when I saw it within the first few 100 or so chapters.

One of the female antagonists is still around like 1800+ chapters later, like wtf? Why? Why has nobody gotten rid of her yet!? And she's always managing to use other men because "she's so pitiful looking" with her dumb white lotus act like wtf. This is honestly something a lot of CN web novels suffer through - long, drawn out plots for 1000+ chapters that should have been resolved you know.... 1000+ chapters back.

Furthermore, the heroine has a ton of really s*upid and hypocritical logic going on in her head. She gets mad that the male lead doesn't just blindly believe her, because isn't that what love is?! And then gets mad about s*upid stuff like him leaving when he said he'd never leave her after she pushed him away and said s*upid stuff to him. Because if she's pushing him away and treating him terribly, he should just suck it up and always be around her and be nice to her and never leave her, right???? Logical. Very logical.

And I should say that kind of stuff happens a lot. And no, it does not get any better.

My mind is honestly foggy now on all the details because it's been at least a year or two since I dropped this, but that's just how much I disliked it lol I felt the need after creating an NU account to come back and rage about it in this review.

Anyways, don't waste your time. I definitely regret all the time I wasted reading this steaming pile of crap. <<less

Get's super repetitive.

I barely remember what is going on anymore.

There ARE some really intriguing background sideplots surrounding her heritage though, specifically surrounding her mom.

Gotta say, it's like Proud Immortal Demon Way from SVSSS, except female version with no harem and more luck.

Reading summaries for every chapter, I have seen that this book is outrageously long and the storyline is slower and longer to progress. I really love this piece but I would have to score it very low for various reasons such as the longevity and the slow progress and romance level. I really would have loved it if not for the Jade Fairy that was infatuated with the ML and constantly hid herself within various powers. It's like playing cat and mouse (Tom and Jerry) and I really am a... more>> little disappointed at this book. I could've read enough to catch up to recent updates but I can't help but feel that the storyline is too much.

It's as if the author doesn't want the villain to die or the book to die. I'm sorry, but the revenge part is what gets on my nerves because that is the basis of this story and stubborn girls trying to open, in fact, very slowly to the ML and it makes me pull my hair out constantly. It's not a good thing. <<less
