The female characters are written like japanese fetish characters with no personality other than having no experience with men for no reason and also being extremely "interested" in the main character for no reason and they're a major part of the story so this completely kills the novel for me.

It lacks substance. There really isnt a lot personality to go around here, the MC did in the beginning I guess, but even that is gradually disappearing. All other character feel rather flat and the world building is less than satisfactory. The Writing is not that bad I guess, but there really is no excitement. The battles are also very bland with almost nothing special to them.

Other Cons

*There is no plot, no purpose, no real motive to keep reading the story

* Way to much talking about his special power, and... more>> the MC doesn't really develop himself all that much outside that power.

The novel is not terrible is just not that good. Some people might like it and if you are not really looking for quality and instead searching for "something readable" then by all means read it.

Verdict 3.2/5 <<less

Okay be aware, everything will be all the negatives side from the WN.

Okay first thing first, IDK If It is on purpose but sometimes, the shitty line from the story became so weird, what Is weird? To be frank the Interaction of MC and His master (a dude), Idk if the fault lies to the translator or It was really the original line.

What is it? The line or how the damn lunatic emphasize some ambiguous words, that will lead to a misunderstanding thinking, If this shitty wn is... more>> a trap.

For example:

"Theo could rent books from the Zero Library freely, and he would be treated as an elder. It was a huge kindness that the king had granted Theo's request.

Theo's heart was beating wildly, and a strange heat spread from it."

Ch - 120, - I mean you could use appropriate synonyms for it so It wouldn't sound so weird.

That's clearly the line from the translation.

Another example.

"The relationship between the two men was much stronger than an ordinary bond shared between master and disciple."

Source Ch - 119 - Just like this, proper word delivery is a must. Or they'll think It is a BL sh*t you disgusting freak.

There's few more. But I already forgot from which chapter It is, But I think It was on the early chapter.

My point In this is, the lunatic the author who keeps teasing his viewers/readers, from a f*cking child like romance, while their current relationship didn't progress at all.

Like they're holding hands, skin touch blah blah blah, that makes the MC embarrass to the point he can't think straight. Well It is fine if the MC is a f*cking kid. But he isn't he is an adult for f*cktard sake a 20yr old Healthy Male!

Then throwing me this glaring lines, that makes me shiver from disgust. Of course, any reader with a proper mind will find it odd.

I even thought this sh*t has a hidden agenda, even re-check the Genre and Tag carefully.

MC - Is clearly a mixture of JP beta MC + Generic Chinese MC.

With that combination explain a lot of things for the character and behavior of the MC.

But I think the author doesn't know the word "Adult" really means, for a guy with an early 20yr of age, acted like a kid Is beyond salvation, which cave did you pop into? Do you really know history? Doing a role playing royalty and knight to your story without knowing the most common basic concept, damn It is hopeless If you want to know the mentality growth of the MC cuz he is an 8yr old kid with an adult body. That's the reason why I called this shitte writer as an autistic bastard.

Moving on to the disgusting part.

The writing style of the writer, Is quite clumsy, that you'll be left behind being confused, Like, Dafuq? Where's the continuation of the last chapter?

It was something like that, the writer/author likes to end his chapter with a Cliff Hanger effect, then the next chapter is Alzheimer's effect.

Just like the word meant, It was pretty much frustrating.

Not just that, sometimes, there's no clear exit from the character that's Interacting to the MC, It felt like the person just disappear from the storyline, like from a manhwa or manga best example is. The protagonist is talking to someone, later part he found himself already inside his room.

It doesn't make any sense right? That's how this lunatic writes.

The story events were mostly repetitive.

That's all of the "Most" glaring Issue, If you can ignore it, you'll probably enjoy the novel.

As for the good side, you better check It for yourself, I only leaving this for those guys like me, who dislike this kind of flaws.

PS.

Update from scroll reading, the damnable fault lies to the translation, no wonder It was removed from the site, cuz of this as*hole whim, some of the story line important point being misunderstood, like the example I gave up above.

Conclusion.

Read the Raw, or translate the wn on your own.

Cuz the lunatic translator has a mental Issue.

PSS.

The author Is the same group of the translator, he is literally a lunatic writer whose circle Is Tissue paper Club, If you know what I mean.

Update from my scroll reading.

The lust Arc Is tr*sh, The most tr*shiest Arc from the story.

How so? The author didn't know the sh*t he was saying, the reasoning he gave was like a weak counter rebuke from the readers who criticize his plot hole.

In short the explanation is 'full of airs' like a lousy lair trying to redeem himself but getting more ridiculed by his readers, no wonder It was just 400 chapters. If you remove all fillers from every chapter, It will barely make a total of 100 chapters, That's how shitte the filler from this story.

I thought as the chapter goes by, he will learn from his mistake, nope, not at all, cuz his s*upid pride, like all-knowing BS writer, He really did it! He forces a disgusting plot, the only life-saving grace from this WN is the action, yet even the action became a problem too, Cuz he made the MC too OP, yet In his s*upid brain, MC still weak to get a slap by a hooligan from the story, how BS is that shit, not just the MC just to force his s*upid plot he weakened and use the power of almighty 180 turn degree to the supporting character!

Spit~ You disgusting freak giving you a One star rating... You don't deserve a star! If I could give negative star, I would do so.

I won't recommend this, Unless your purpose is to waste time. Then help yourself.

I already gave It a shot, but the only disappointment was given by this shitte wn. <<less

The story is soo fast pace which gives no room for building foundation, personality and backstory. My initial response in the story is pretty good but eventually become bad. The beginning of the story seems to be pretty solid and unique in my opinion but the author made it soo fast that we get noting but random stuff with no meaning.

Very much a young adult fiction. The author has a very strong sense of naivety and clearly has not watch enough period dramas.

And due to that sense of innocence I cannot really find myself enjoying this work.

Ignoring the ridiculous leveling speed of the main characters, weak side characters and a rather silly sense of what nobility was accustomed too. I am sorry but no prince knew how to dress himself for a formal engagement... :P

Not for me, someone who wants a happy go lucky story with an op MC that... more>> gets everything he wants, will enjoy this. <<less

I dropped this out of disinterest, about one third of the way through. And it's not a long novel. There was nothing that made me deeply frustrated, but it wasn't stirring my passion for reading.

It's similar in tone to novels like Coiling Dragon and Stellar Transformation -- a bright, young, good-hearted hero, who experiences a lot of good fortune and usually relatively little narrative tension. It's lacking in originality. The world is a hodgepodge of unoriginal points of inspiration, such as Dungeons & Dragons spells and items, shallow overused Norse... more>> mythology worldbuilding (Yggdrasil, Ragnarok, etc.), and characters named after the seven deadly sins. There are some good turns in the story -- for example, it's very original that Theo says "I can't just keep absorbing library books forever, someone will notice, " and confides in someone else early on. I can't recall a webnovel hero with a cheat power *ever* doing that. But the plotting is generally lacking on the finer points.

I should explain the premise, because it's not straightforward. It's not that Theo gains the knowledge of books by "eating" them (like some xylophagic version of "Library of Heaven's Path"). Rather, as a genius reader with no innate "sensitivity" to magic, he can absorb books he has gained an understanding in, in order to gain sensitivity towards casting that spell alone... or that's my best interpretation of what is happening, anyway. It's great that there are limits (I have negative opinions of the likes of LoHP), but his growth is poorly thought out. Theo also raises his general magic sensitivity too, and at that point, what's the use of eating random spellbooks that he already understands by reading them? His signature skill thus quickly takes a backseat to his grimoire's secondary powers, which don't have clear limits, and we go from a story where the main character's strength has to follow clearly defined rules, to a story where the hero can quickly power up endlessly.

The pacing is much too fast. Better novels could spend hundreds of chapters in school doing various alchemy contests and extracurricular activities without readers ever complaining, as long as the characters and story material is good, but we're instead just told that his classmates and teachers are all narrow-minded fools, and we skim over it. Heroes in the best novels learn one skill and then get a chance to cleverly put it to use before getting an opportunity to learn another. But Theo just learns pages of spells all at once that he never finds a special use for... or he uses skills that he never explicitly learned "on-camera", which takes all the joy right out of it. He's out of school and quickly at the "4th circle" after a few dozen chapters, and then at the 5th circle a dozen more after that. The novel skips forward a month and we're told he's spent all that time absorbing books, but those months are exactly what the novel needs to be filling, because there's nothing actually better up ahead once you rush there.

The translation isn't unreadable by any means, but it has plenty of awkward spots. There are also often incongruities on how long ago some historical event was, or at what level of strength a certain character was supposed to be. We'll be told that some historical figure is famous for doing something, and then not long later, that they had only "almost" accomplished it. I'm guesing this level of inconsistency is there in the original Korean version as well, but who knows. <<less

I tried to keep a blind eye on the plot holes but I'm done, this is too much for me.

The MC must be the luckiest guy ever, Meng Hao ain't got nothing on him. The MC keeps getting blessings/powers/gifts from legendary magicians and gods like every 3 minutes.

I was honestly very impressed with the premise of this novel, but it's a shame that it turned way too OP way too early, as they say, "The journey is more important than the destination", the premise of this novel was a grimoire that can eat other magic books and through this the MC can advance on the journey to fulfill his dream of becoming a powerful magician.

But this is over in pretty much no time, I would have loved to see a story about overcoming challenges to find new... more>> original books and more focus on the basic premise, it's just thrown away after a few chapters with unnecessary evolutions that make it anything but a story about a grimoire that's able to absorb the knowledge from other magic books.

It's about 10% journey and 90% the destination, of course it's far from over, it's a Korean novel and just like Chinese ones he has to become a god and battle other gods before it's over, honestly it's tiring, it's basically just a circle jerk for people who dream of being superior to other people while having accomplished nothing irl. <<less

I'll start with the things I take issue with. The MC is not just a stale character, he has no personality. Really, his dialogue is so plain and to the point that it feels as if he has no desires. The plot just happens around him and he reacts. Maybe I've been misinterpreting the story and the MC is someone I project myself into. That would be plausible if every other were not stale.

There's little distinction between the characters speech, that denotes different origins or the intensity of their relationship... more>> to each other. Because none of these factors is expressed in the dialogue there is zero sub-text that lets me become attached to the characters or emphasize with their situation, although the worldbuilding and the plot keep me hooked. Every character seems polarizing, they're either a good guy or a bad guy and there is no character development outside of what you would expect from the premise. In addition, the phrasings and some words feel forced in a way that stops my immersion. The worldbuilding is pretty good, I like the magic circles, and while the game system element seems a little forced, it works well enough because the plot is fast-paced. I love the pacing whenever a surprise element is brought into play, like seven sins or the desert dragon, so when the story is fast paced it can hide a lot of the other deficiencies. But when the pace is slower everything seems plodding.

Somewhere within this is the potential for a top 10 Korean novel but it's not likely to be realized. <<less

Book eating magician when I read the title I already got interested... and then when I read it I cant stop until im at this chapter... the story is refreshing well theres a common cliche but the setting and the writing is superbly good... theres a little minor mistakes in the translation but is not really that big that you will see it if you do not find it...i really like how the author use some of the biblical and mythological story he put in the novel... and also it... more>> might be slow pace for me or fast for others but I hope the plot will still thicken... this is more like a diary on how the MC is getting stronger but overall I enjoyed it... thank you for the translating this novel and thank you for bringing this to us author-san. <<less

Power-leveling story about a boy who dreamed of being a magician and failed, miserably, until one day being chosen by a magic book that gives him the "cheat" ability to grow much faster than everyone else by absorbing the knowledge and souls of powerful individuals of the past through the books they wrote and artifacts they made. If you're not a fan of the power fantasy/ cultivation / etc. Genre, you're probably not going to like this one either.

That having been said, I really like the touches of melancholy in... more>> this story compared to other works in the genre. The main character starting out as a failure, the magic book that gives him his "cheat" having failed in it's purpose for millennia on end, the souls that feed his growth all having failed in their life purposes, and the lead having to fulfill their last wish to gain their abilities. The other magic books that show up in the story have all failed to live up to their sole reason to exist, from the antagonists to the supporting characters. A world where all the gods are long dead and all the religions are mere shells of what they once were.

There's this thematic thread running through the entire story of dreams unfulfilled, destinies unmet, and legends long since in decline that just adds a nice bit of spice to a story about someone trying to realize their dreams, forge a destiny, and become a legend. <<less

The beginning and middle of this novel is fairly good, but the last 100 chapters completely ruin it. Everything that was built up to that point is tossed out the window. It felt like the author ran out of ideas and had to end the novel fast so he just started pulling stuff out his ass. What a way to go.

I found it amazing! I wouldn't even review if it is not amazing, , so wherever there is my review that gotta be amazing. ehhehehe.

You will love it if you are like me!! Now the question is if you are like me or not. To find out-

1- Do you love OP MC? = Yes

... more>> 2-Do you have any problem with lucky MC? = No

3-Do you hate HAREM? = No (A man shouldn't) xD

Also, , if you have no problem with older love interests, and looking for something to read slowly, , this is really good. There are better ones, , but this is in no way inferior, it has it's own charm.

So if your answer matches mine, , then we are alike.. whahahahhaha... and you will love it. <<less

What a disappointing ending for such an interesting novel. The MC is a complete goody two-shoes. It's so frustrating to see him win fights with nakama power. Why is it that most of korean novel protagonists are such wussies? Getting pushed around, marrying every girl, abandoning the next level... is this guy even a hero? A coward all the way. At times it felt like I was reading some chic-flick rom-com instead of a novel with magic, adventure and action.

He rejects being advanced into the 10th circle, abandoning gluttony for a silly reason and playing house with mortals for as long as they live. What's the point of him again?

Despite its current shortness, it has been a enjoyable read. The story flows in a steady, but kind of a fast pace, especially noticeable if you mostly read CNs. At first, I even thought that story is going to end in 200 chapters, due to there being almost no filler narrations, well, when compared to CNs.

All-in-all, the vibe I've been getting from this novel is similar to 'Warlock Of The Magus World', but without cynical behavior of Leylin. Also, it has a lesser attention to the intricacies of mana, but... more>> that is substituted with a high diversity of forces and applications of mana, magic etc.

Character-wise, the personalities of the characters are kind of flat and their development is mostly predictable, so far. <<less

This is among my favourite novels. It has an incredible concept of magic, use of grimoire and the fighting is well described. The only flaw is that the MC has no interest in women who really love him ? kinda weird cuz he says that these women are attractive and yet wants to only improve magic... Basically MC is a wuss when it comes to women.... But he is not absolutely ruthless and uncaring for life... His actions are well planned and he knows how to get stronger...?? Incredible. Usually I don't write reviews but I must describe how incredible this masterpiece is.

Theodore is an excellent and very hard-working student, however due to his poor talent he can't practice magic, which drives him to work even harder to make up for his defect. Nevertheless, he isn't able to overcame his lack of talent with his hard-work.

Eventually he meets Gluttony, a grimoire which allows him to eat and absorb all the books he'd read. There's a limit though. He can do it only a few times every day, and... more>> as he keeps unlocking the grimoire's seals he can eat even less.

One thing that I wish to praise is the character growth. The MC doesn't become overpowered fast, nor later. The grimoire is a tool which make his path easier, and coupled with his intelligence and hard work he get strong pretty quick, but considering all the strong people he faces I can say it's legit. In fact I don't know why some people said that he is op. HE ISN'T!!! OP MEANS THAT THE MC CAN EASILY OPPRESS EVERY OPPONENT!

Spoiler

There's a battle where the MC meets another grimoire of the 'Seven Sins' set: Pride. In that battle the MC did everything possible to win, he even forced his grimoire to unlock a seal (I'm not going in the details because I'm too lazy to write all the scene), still Pride beat the crap out of him and almost killed him if Veronica didn't appear.

[collapse]

Is he strong? Yes! But cmon.. Just look at how many strong people there are.. He is very strong as of chapter 242 but not the strongest, he can't beat opponents with a higher stage than his, now add dragons and grimoires in between and you can say that he has still a long way to go.

As I was saying before the character growth is splendid in my opinion. You can clearly notice the difference as you keep reading. He becomes more mature.

Especially since he trains a lot. He gains a lot of experience and keep growing strong as he faces stronger enemies.

The author also avoid to write useless stuff like pointless information dump, so the plot is fast paced.

The romance is not the best but is not that bad either. The girls don't fall in love too quick, nor too slow. The fact that the MC isn't a pe*vert is a plus. He isn't that dense, but having romantic relationship is not on his to-do list, this changes later on.

I really recommend you to give it a try. :) <<less

This novel seems to be decent on the surface but once I got into the story I realized that the MC has no character or personality. The power structure isn't explained very well and the MC kind of gains power too quickly while acting like a hero. Also the way the characters act in this novel are too one dimensional like everyone on the side of the MC that isn't an enemy seems to be selfless. Anyway not recommended it's one of those novels that has an interesting idea and... more>> setting but quickly devolves as the plot progresses. <<less

What I like

    • Intriguing Magic System
    • MC is not lazy, sleazy, dumb or too OP
    • No harem (although it could develop)
What I dislike

    • Plot armor galore (fortuitous events that have no reason to happen just to move the story along)
    • Spoiler

Although a nice Magic System, there are serious holes in logic (MC needs to eat a book a day but goes into a coma for multiple days during which he doesn't need to eat books anymore? Not buying it.)
