Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world.

Yet a series of unfortunate events forced Hiroto to reincarnate with even less luck than before, starting with nothing but a tremendous amount of Mana. His second life, far worse than his first, came to a cruel end.

However, upon meeting the god a second time, he was informed that there would be yet another reincarnation—one that had already been set in motion and could not be stopped. Not wanting Hiroto to live long, the god cursed him before he was reborn in the hopes that he would either die quickly or commit su*cide.

Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-Vampire, half-Dark Elf. A Dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—death-attribute magic and his enormous Mana pool.

Could be perfect if not for the ridiculous harem elements. Most of the Japanese novels are like this, and apart from licensing problem (translations tend to stop in the middle because of legal problems), the echi stuff keeps me from reading them.

Overall an interesting world/worlds with some interesting characters (all non harem characters are interesting and actually have personality). Would recommend if you are in a middle of puberty. If someone could rewrite it without the ridiculous harem characters, the story would be 5/5.

+Isekai with great lore and consistent world build around the story. One of the best I've read so far.

+MC is not a beta. He tries to be rational and not release his anger but sometimes he just flips. As a reader I sometimes wonder how can a small child accomplish all the feats he does, but the writer usually point it himself when things are going haywire.

-A lot of characters. Also a lot of characters have similar names which makes remembering them problematic.

-Only truly bad point in this story is... more>> the amount of pe*opHILIA it contains. And it is a lot. No, I mean seriously. People feel sexually attracted to the MC even when he is just one-year-old. Usually it's the MC himself who points it out that it's weird to see him in that light but everyone else is OK with it so he just shrugs it of and lets them be.

-Okay there is also another bad point but not as big. All of the bad guys are bad because they are bad. Biggest reason for this is religion and gods. This makes the enemies kind of shallow and repetitive. But atleast they are done so that they have a meaning in the flow of the story. For spoiler reasons I won't go to detail. <<less

Novel isn't fit for me. It starts off with a serious tone, with Vandalieu suffering and whatnot, but later on the novel has him getting big breasted fanservice girls like no tomorrow, slice of life stuff and being loved immensely while the god reincarnated ofc has to be depicted as the s*upid god that gets his ass handed to him.

I can't say it deceived me, it delivered what the sypnosis made it out to be, but the amount of fanservicely women and how the plot develops just has me go... more>> "Mmehhhhh...."

If you like busty girls you should try the novel out, I guess.

If you like cold hearted MCs, sorry to say Van ain't like them and he'll be saving and charming women like the harem master he is. <<less

Before I get into the review, be aware that I took a break at chapter 9 for almost a year before coming back and reading it up to chapter 30.

With that said, is this novel worth reading? Imo ~ meh. It's not a bad read but it will leave you frustrated at times by the MC personality and by the author's writing style. To be fair, Vandelieu is not a beta Japanese MC (in the traditional sense). He is OP but he (as a character) has gone through a lot.

CONTEXT:... more>> This is his third reincarnation. During his first life, he was a typical young Japanese person who died a tragic death (alongside his classmates). In his second life he was basically a lab rat who endured serious mental and physical trauma at the hands of apathetic scientists hell bent on using his body to progress magic and technology in their world. And finally, in his third life Vandelieu is a Dhampir who is encouraged by a god to die as soon as possible in order to facilitate his rebirth into a paradisaical fourth life. Vandelieu who does not want to die again fights for his right to live in a world that seems designed to kill him ~ terrible prophesies about our MC and such ~ created by the god in question.

MC: Vandelieu is a yes-man character. He is frustrating precisely because he does not really have a personality or any opinion of his own ~ he is an every-man despite the fact that he is an OP character (with serious limitations initially). He is mentally ruled by others (which makes sense in lieu of his back story but is often times annoying to read) but fortunately for him, the people around him truly love and respect him. With that said, there is almost no middle ground, either people want to kill him or people adore him. He is cursed by the god of light or whatever to be unable to gain experience independently, to be unable to transfer experience points over from previous lives and to learn existing (in world) [jobs]. However, he has a mana capacity of over 100 million and he can use death magic ~ a type of magic that he used in his previous life/world (Origin) but that does not exist in his third life/world. In short, he is a mixture between an everyman, an OP laid-back JP MC, a pushover, a tragic character and an overachiever who never rests.

WRITING: I can't help but applaud the author for trying to mix science and magic in a way that at least tries to come together. However, it can also be a painful experience for us readers when the author tries to explain something in a serious fashion that is completely unscientific. With that said, this is not at all the worst part. For me personally, it's how the past life of our beloved and hated MC is constantly shoved in your face over and over and over and over again ~ multiple times throughout the same chapter. He is tragic because of his past life ~ GIVE HIM SYMPATHY! ~ He is tragic because the scientists did XYZ to him~ GIVE HIM SYMPATHY! Moreover, the other reason why these scenes appear so much in this novel is to justify why the MC has plot armor ~ Oh the MC can remove curses... flashback to horrible incident in second life ~ Oh the MC can increase the fertility of less-fertile ghouls... flashback to sad incident in second life... remember how I said that the author tries to be serious and scientific ~ well you can imagine how difficult it might be to describe the reason why death magic is able to improve the fertility of ghouls using modern Earth science and a (never accurately defined/described) death magic... basically it's just bull that we need to overlook over and over again. In short, sympathy as a means of garnering immersion as a literary tool is used way too much in this novel ~ minimum 2-3 times per chapter (each chapter is about a 15-20 min read ~ if you don't skim).

As such, for me, this novel is just ok. It's not a bad read and it can be pretty good at times but it seems almost impossible to read with out taking burnout-breaks. Too much face-palming is not healthy for anyone. <<less

Honestly, the story had a lot of potential when I first started reading it. Loved the MC's backstory and even how the MC handled his mother's death and revenge. I usually can even deal with the absurd amount of OP the MC gets since it essentially got explained in his reincarnation backstory.

What Started bothering me was his weird harem of ghouls as a toddler. As some reviews said, the story goes downhill once he starts playing Sims and it gets extremely lighthearted despite the author's attempts to keep the story... more>> dark as a result of giving the MC a harem town. <<less

I expected a nice revenge plot but after 1 Volume it becomes pretty clear that there is no such thing. Why would u reincarnate someone into a vampire body when a slug would have sufficed? That's just overkill to me. Awesome translation tho. Game Setting nice but the whole story is kinda "surprisingly" similar to that slime story but worse. Everything was nice but the minute he started project sim city the story just went down. Story was actually kinda interesting and I might finish it sometime later but it's... more>> just not my niche.

UPDATE: Never finished it, and thinking back to it based on my memory, the novel was utter ****. <<less

Plot is somewhat interesting but the way it was executed is rather poor. One major factor for this is the fact that his skill Death Attribute Charm + his vampire charm makes any character development null and void so all conversations feel not genuine and akin to hypnotism.

Also a personal gripe is that the author is taking it too far with the persecution aspect and the need to make the MC as pitiable as possible.

I am not good at explaining my feelings on a series without basically explaining everything about it so this review will be brief as to not be spoilery. This series is a recent find by me and I must say I fell in love right away. I binge read all the available chapter and always eagerly await more. This series in my opinion has a style and characters that somehow manage to be both unique and cliche at the same time and this makes it incredibly fun. I will simply... more>> say to anyone considering this series to yes take the plunge and start reading

Edit: an update after more chapters. I still love the series as much now as I did when I first reviewed it and things are really getting intresting now I strongly recommend it. <<less

It is not bad, but what killed it for me is that every single friend MC has is under the effect of Death Charm, it gives of a feeling as if everyone is hipnotized by him. All around is an Ok novel, I personally didnt really liked it, but that opinion is purely subjective, I dont like MCs that live as if everyone around them is out to kill them and every person in the series is divided into three categories: loves MC like a god, is an absolute as*hole... more>> with no redeemable qualities and those that are targets of revenge and nobody cares about their personality. This novel takes inspiration from chinese novels and I dont see that as bad, the plot is well executted and has many good points all around, if it is your cup of tea, you ll enjoy it. <<less

Spoiler

The main char has every spell he could possibly want, preserve food? yeah can do, reverse aging? oh yeah, solve infertility, can do, pull out a horde of combat spells never before mentioned despite there being a status in almost every end of the chapter? of course. It kills off all of the tension that could have possibly been because even if they try to paint him as helpless you know he's gonna pull something out of his ass like it was no big deal all along. There's other op main char series where they do create tension, either by a kryptonite or by using the friends or lovers of the main characters as hostages. The main char however doesn't care much about others, several women and ghouls (his allies) were being mercilessly r*ped and he stood by doing nothing. "Oh he couldn't do anything" you say, bullshit, this main char pulls sh*t out of his arse like it's nothing and doesn't even utilize the spells he already has. If he wanted to he could've made an undead army and solved it in two days, but he only ever made three undead, two living armors and a carriage because... he didn't want to bring too many with him? That seems to be the only explanation were given, which is a crappy reason when he's already surrounded by people that knows what he can do, surrounded by plenty of souls and is in a monsters nest where there would presumably be plenty of monsters for his undead to train on. Can he not control more than that? No because he makes numerous small insects as scouts, so he obviously can.

So there's no tension because the main character can just make everything whenever the author wills it, and him already being in possession of several trump cards that he just doesn't use while others are suffering, kinda makes him an a**hole.

Also he's a baby right? At the beginning he can barely keep his head upright, but it seems like the author almost forgets that he's a baby, and at 1 year old he's walking around, talking and cracking nuts. Have the author seen a 1 year old? Maybe he could talk somewhat clumsily, but he's not walking around and cracking nuts, he'd lack the physical strength because of never having used those muscles before and also being a goddamn baby. And people coming onto him, wanting his children, when he's a toddler, that's creepy, that's super duper creepy, I don't think it's being addressed enough because jesus christ that's creepy. At least make him 5 years old, I could swallow the story better if the words i'd expect from the main character was more than go-go-gaga.

This novel is similar to many isekai stories except that the god is a shitty dumb ass that makes a mistake and didnt give the MC any powers except for large mana pool.

In addition, after the MC first early death (captured as lab rat due to his large mana pool) , he decided to reincarnate him AGAIN into another new world, this time even limiting his powers (no job, no exp gain) in fear of MC getting revenge on him.

For the rest of the plot, after surviving yet... more>> another shitty childhood, now hes building a kingdom, purpose is to mainly to survive and prevent that ass god from assassinating him in various ways.
Spoiler

(that god eventually manipulate and send people, including his ex-classmates to kill him)

[collapse]

I gave 4 star as there are few things I didnt like.

The MC kinda has low ambition, his goal is just to survive and like happily as a noble in luxury, yet given his awaken powers in the later part of the story, he could have simply dominate the world.

The MC is a toooo young, hes not even 12 for god sake. Yet women are already falling for him, if there is a time skip period, it would have been fine, but no, he just continues as a child for the rest of the story so far.

The obsession in japanese food found in other isekai novels is here again, if you are a fan of that, then great. Because the MC spends quite a long time trying to recreate japanese food, which for me, I just skim through them.

MC kingdom consists of abnormal citizens and monster girls, (since the god cant manipulate those races) eg half snake, half goblin, undead. If you enjoy monster girls stuff, then this novel should be a dream for you. If not, you still can skim through them, as luckily the MC didn't going into very detail weird hentai level stuff. <<less

Very enjoyable to read. My only complaint is that there does not seem to be much character development. Vandalieu does not seem to change at all, he only seems to grow in power and want revenge for his past.

It's slowly but surely building it's collection of unimportant side characters. To me this novel looks very similar to Death March, I dropped that because it became too much. For now I'll continue reading this, but the slow character development hurts.

The start is nice and even though the tone of the novel change after the "revenge/bloody" start, the novel still keep it interest for me. However, the recent chapter is slowly grinding my drop bar. The MC doesn't show any changes in his way of approaching things. He just doesn't learn. The novel keep going back and forth between creating what most Japanese who got throw into another world do: "creating Japanese cuisine" and random politics with in short: "ha ha you fool, imma kill you" to "you monsters, save... more>> me, noooo, spare me, mama" and "i shall take all of you under my wing, come with me and all shall live". Stuff like that

Spoiler

The MC actual age is 16 on earth, 10-20 in 2nd life and 6 or so in 3rd life. Considering his first life was like a country boy who got devoid of technology and social interaction with people and being lock in a cage as a lab rat on his 2nd life. I can understand him for being a wee bit kind and naive but compare to other Isekai with OP naive MC (which are a lot mind you), I take Tsuki ga Michibiku as an example. The MCs are similarly (though Tsukiga MC is younger) naive, OP, have OP companion and striving to create a world of their own in their Isekai world. They MC in Tsukiga pay some what for his nativity and is taught by his companion and also trying himself to learn and improve himself.

[collapse]

Van learn nothing, granted he hasn't suffered yet but still, everything he does come with a "Van-sama is the best" and everything he make has a "never before seen/best thing ever" tag next to it. He kill over 10, 000+ soldiers so far and yet keep getting spook by the smallest of thing and still doesn't understand how OP he is despite having people scream at his face for being too OP. He could just stop and ask a powerful creature he met something like: "Hey, how OP am I" while giving him death threat and stuff and you could get an answers even if it is somewhat exaggerated, just cut it down yourself and you got quite an accurate answer yourself.

Spoiler

He has GOD under him and that god know he is OP so just a question would solve everything but no.

[collapse]

The novel is currently in the middle or it run time and most mediocre author doom their novel at this point. The current author seem to know what he is doing but if the annoying cliche and current trope keep up, I might drop it in the future. <<less

Such a huge f*cking letdown!

At the start the author gives the impression it is going to be a cool headed MC but later it goes to tr*shlevel for no reason what so ever! Holy sh*t if you don't want to get let down please dont read this! And that seinen tag is so false, only the first couple chapters resemble it a bit afterwards it is nothing like that. I want to like the novel so much, it started out great just like everyone here says but after 40 chapters the MC is still 3 years old, and barley does anything. They have all this foreshadowing of what will happen when he's 10, or in a couple of years were he will go, and what he might do, but the story moves the pace of real life. You have to read all the boring day to day stuff he does for about 10 chapter then actual content for 2... more>> or 3, which make me think this needs a slice of life tag, then I would have known to skip this. Like most Japanese stories now, reading this after around chapter 18 is like drinking water to get full when your starving, or eating dry cackers when your thirsty. Sounds good doesn't work. If in the next couple chapters there isn't a time skip I'm moving on to other stories, but if he at least make it to walking by himself age ill add 5 stars. <<less

Solid Isekai story. The protag has spent the entire novel up to this point (chapter 74) as a child (and will likely continue to do so for quite a while longer), though he IS steadily aging (which is pretty unique, most stories they either don't age or they age through long timeskips).

My only two major complaints:

1 - This isn't really a "harem" story (not yet, certainly). Pretty much all the females he spends time with are in relationships with others and he's young even at chapter 74 (which is the... more>> latest chapter as of this review).

2 - The cooking segments bore me to death. I wish Isekai stories would stop beating this dead horse trope already. We get it, you like Japanese food, stop writing about it in Isekai novels.

I highly recommend this, a very enjoyable Isekai novel. <<less

The beginning was very promising, but the story failed to keep it up. It could have been great and dark story about righteous revenge, but instead it become typical JP slice-of-life. MC gained power, yet he suddenly became soft and timid. He has potential to create massive army and crush his enemies. Instead he wants to play nice and harmless Dhampir.

There is growing harem that you know will never go anywhere, and MC is still only few years old. There is more chapters about making japanese food than fighting. Of... more>> course, everyone in that fantasy world loves his food. Even undead become addicted to it! <<less

My favorite Isekai WN to date. Fast paced story with good humor, a very likable kickass MC, none of the emo angst or drama, and a very fleshed out fantasy world.

Edit: Chapter 129 and the 5 star review stands. Great freaking novel.
