The epic story of a particular very ordinary japanese student in the other world. Tsuki ga Michibiku is more about the world than its protagonist. Misumi Makoto, who for good or bad, personality wise stays basically the same, starts a domino effect that would change the world at its core.

For some reason, what started out as a more mechanically-inclined, more in-depth vapid "All Women are b*tches (Japanese "b*tch" aka Slut), all Men are bastards" fantasy world story... has turned into something that seriously discusses discrimination, [i]Reverse discrimination[/i], how even when someone says "I'm not discriminating. They have emotional biases due to experiences, and how people's lives affect one another.

I mean, it's still very vapid in most points and frankly the action is skin deep and bombastic, along the lines of a Michael bay movie, but get past like... more>> chapter 50 and... I'm shocked at how much better of a storyteller the original author is becoming. He's actually incorporating aspects of literature into his writing, from using key "focalizers" and POV chapters, to really making irony and callbacks a signature of his.

It's still... very "uncivilized" in some aspects, but this story is one I highly recommend if you're into things like shield hero and wanted more description and development. Or if you felt that Re:Monster was just too sex-focused and written by a 15year old.

This is what I call "adaptation bait". This kind of story would be great to be adapted to a borderline Seinen Anime or a manga. Of course, it already is a manga, and that's pretty good too.

I will say that the characters are kind of... forgettable and blend into one another. Another reason an adaptation would be better. The author seems to switch up the cast and doesn't include enough descriptions or actions for certain names to actually be remembered, and so a character list/wiki kind of is needed for most audiences to get into this if you're reading it chapter by chapter. On a binge, though, it should be fine. <<less

I tried to get into this. I wanted a good non-harem style book to read. It very quickly turns into a forced harem plot. Then it basically becomes a book about what the harem wants to do. The premise was good, but that broke it for me.

This is one of my favorite novels even after reading nearly a hundred others.

Many of the other reviewers seem to conflate "He didn't do what I would do" with "he's dumb".

Spoiler

Makoto is a broken person. You don't have to empathize with him, or feel sympathy for him, or be able to self insert in order to enjoy this series.

This novel is one of the best I have read, people's impression changes over time, but this novel's image remained same for me over the years. The author has consistency in his writing, which very few have.

Unlike other novels which grew boring and confusing after few 100 chapter or so, This novel did not disappoint me yet.

Do read and don't forget check the manga and anime, they are interesting.

The best thing about this Novel is the Character development, seeing makoto goes from being an ordinary highschooler to one of the best schemer, who does thing with a purpose. And also, the side character who doesn't just remain in the background was also refreshing...

This book isnt for everyone, ill start by saying that. If you dont like weak willed MCs yoy wouldnt like this. The MC is ordinary, hes sent to his parent original world and is naturaly stronger because earth is different than his new world even though both his parents were originally from there which he learns way later. He is a high schooler that has not had a s*xual awakening to anyone. This has romance but not the main plot he will have a s*xual relationship with 2 women as... more>> far as I have read but it isnt untill the 100 something chapter foes this happen.

He doesnt know much, again hes a high schooler and hes really pure but learns after lots of chapters the world isnt flowers and rainbows and he cant always be neutral. It takes a lot of chapters for this to happen and until then he ignores and buries his head in sand.

If given a choice the MC would 100% not invovle himself with the war and problems of people around if he feels no emotional connection to them.

The story is very slow if you dont like slow world building this isnt for you. However the world building is very good, and the story only picks up in the 100s chaoters after sides are established and the MC learns some hard leassons about being a merchant and the damage trying to be neutral all the time causes.

The MC is OP just not one punch man method. He could kill everyone if he wanted to but picks the most peaceful method first and violence second. He starts of very indecisive and stays that way for a long time. The plot is just his move from thinking like a child and acting like a child to a mature thinking that understands saving those he can also calls for killing others and leaving those who do not want to be saved and revenge will make more revenge. The plot is is travels around while maturing and eventually taking on the goddess and killing her.

The MC has one very strong emotion of hate towards the goddess who is an absolute decision for him even from early on and that is to take her on, and beat her. The MC really the equality here, he will slap a woman that deserved it, there is nothing in him thats holds back vecuase shes female. <<less

To those who comes to read reviews before reading this novel I suggest you read the reviews with the highest chapter read and ignore those impatient/ignorant reviewers who haven't read until the latest chapters.

Also please read the tags before you read novels so you don't become idiots who complain no character development on the early chapters of a slice of life manga. (did those idiots think teenagers have mature personalities and realistic perspective of the world?)

And so, on to the review...

World building is great 8/10 (It would be better... more>> if there was a story of creation that is filled with holes and they should also have more continents because even if you enlarge japan it is still small if you're gonna have magical fantasy battles of epic proportions.)

Story line is also great 9/10 (It could be better if the historical characters showing up had some foreshadowing done sprinkled here and there but that's just me nitpicking.)

Characters are nicely created 9/10 (Attention to details and emotions of characters are well defined and well thought out, individuality of characters are easily seen and the quirks and interactions are enjoyable so it's hard to see imperfections but that must be because it's in perspective of the MC. It still feels artificial because the characters are quite high spec and perfect with their actions so it's not really a minus but it makes the reader feel distant with the characters.)

Character development 8/10 (It is a well defined and a well thought out process but it is still in the slow side even for a slice of life but it does project a nice niche of interactions.) <<less

Chapter 127

This story starts fine. But as it progresses it gets contradictory. You'll see the MC fight against 2 of the strongest in the world (and win) and then barely managing to fight against a strong hyuman (human) just because he was dropped in suddenly. There's also another incident that made me stop reading the story (at least for the time being). The incident is him not being able to handle a merchant of merchant guild (higher-ups). That incident isn't the problem itself, the problem is before this incident he... more>> was able to handle Root (strongest? Dragon in the world - lived for millenniums), 1 of the 4 demon general (strategist of the whole demon army), and the Church (you get it). It's like being able to fight against the greatest chess masters in the world but then losing to a complete newbie.

And the novel is filled with contradictions like these, with snail-paced storytelling (the plot hasn't even started yet). The author basically figured out he found a gem and instead of sticking to the same pacing, he's intentionally (in a very distasteful way) trying to make the story longer.

The MC is a beta male and indecisive (most of the time). But the biggest flaw of the novel is that the author himself is indecisive - he should've figured out what he wants to do and just stick with it.
Reading this novel is becoming a chore because of this reason.

I think my biggest problem was picking this novel right after reading Summoned Slaughterer and Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyusoukyoku. The indecisiveness and the passive aggressiveness in this book are just too much. I don't think books are supposed to be frustrating to read.

I cannot click 2 stars for some reason.

Main character is okay. Honestly so much nonsense is thrown in that doesn't need to be explained.

Does the audience not know what an idol is?

... more>> Do we not know what fried chicken is?

The main character says one thing and there are four lines of internal monologue that spell out what he just said.

Meanwhile major plot points are not advanced for at least 100-200 chapters.

(Spoilers)

Examples like:

- status of other gods

- demons

- an entire kingdom MC is building outside of his main kingdom

- retainers with their own storylines dead in the water that tie directly to him (the "evil" tamaki")

And being patient is one thing but wasting time on pointless things that don't advance the story is another. There are so many more examples I can list. At a certain point I say don't bother till there is some proper vision or story telling.

This is a slice of life isekai disguesd as adventure from time to time. It's so boring now.

I am not saying don't donate, please support authors - but maybe wait for this to end so you can skip several chapters. <<less

I love this series, the only series I wait for the update till now.

Great job for the author for not making this story not too predictable.

This series isn't all about the MC cuz it really has a great world build and alot of little detail for the rest of the cast here and there.

Its a slow paced read yeah, so its not for everyone, if you wanted some standart harem isekai this isn't the place.

Hi

I've read this novel till chapter 301 and here is what I have to say: I don't like this novel - it is boring like hell.

It begins as your usual isekai type novel (well, the goddess is bad character). MC is overpowered and doesn't meet any problems till his first meeting with demon king's army after which there begins something like meetings whith truly strong enemies. BUT there is no problem for MC and his enemies describe him as their worst nightmare... There is no unexpected situations or decisions. If... more>> there is a fight, then the MC will win it with overwhelming power. Yep. There won't be any traps, any thought how to win. MC wins everything with brute force.

As for the world around him: there was one or two situations where author had some sort of excellent story idea (like adequate reaction toward MC from traders point of view), but this ideas were wasted and situations were... guess what? Solved with brute force! Also there was supposed to be quite a lot of characters on MC side and yet we don't see the results of their actions most of the time.

Frankly speaking I think that author tried really hard to write something good, but ended up missing all the marks he could.

And well... This novel is boring. Just boring. When author tries to create funny situation he loses the core of it and situations turns out not funny.

I dropped it om ch 301. Don't commit the same mistake. If you've read first 50 chapters and you can't tell if you like it or not, drop this novel the same instant. It will not change with time. I assure you. <<less

Chapters are relatively long. 20 min on average which makes it actually quite a log of content. Main character until chapter 120 is irritating. However around chapter 170 you realize that previous chapters when he was irritating make sense and he grows to be quite nice and strong character. When I arrived at chapter 170 I was already in love however around chapter 120 I wanted to throw this away.

My advice.. Read until chapter 200 and then write what you think :). I think by that time you will love... more>> this novel. <<less

Sorry I think those who read this and scored this low seems like they are into like this Isekai sh*t like that "smart phone" one's, MC guy is laid back, simple his way of thinking is actually more comparable to real life, than most of other isekai MC, plus people argue more about how dense he is, These readers who rated this low probably wants a h**ny ass main character,

The character development for the main MC is really good, unlike most of these common isekai MC ones...

Phasing nice...

Story progress... more>> is good..

no bullshits..

He's grow as a person is normal...

he doesn't go his way out to go to other people's business cos he's op or he has the power...

Unlike some of those other Isekai MC guys... (hypocrisy)

Great novel in various meaning, its no doubt. Its story of MC who for nonsense reason kicked out to the end of world just because his looks by goddess. What a sh**y goddess. I'm also symphstic with MC. The reason MC is safe are getting helped by other god from earth.

Then he set his journey to defeat the goddess, and get various cheat.. Its pretty generic but not all of them -there's a dragon girl (not loli but milf), calamity bringer girl, academy arc, arena battle etc. There's a lot... more>> thing interesting happened too like meeting with his senpai as hero.

Overall our MC makoto are broken mentally (especially 200+), his power keep growing but his mental isnt prepared enough I think, as popular phrase -"bigger power, bigger responsibilty".
Spoiler

There's a prove like talking about destroying world with senpai who is hero (lol) and broke to castle just to talk his childhood friend.

[collapse]

Well Its not bad, we dont have much example of this kind of MC in isekai so I find this interesting to read. Aside that, character are memorable enough to me.. Altho some of them are streotypical and world building interesting enough in both 'world'. <<less

This novel is good. It uses the common isekai summoning trope and adds a twist to it. MC that was supposed to be the hero ends up being an extra, and 2 random (or not) people that he had met or contacted in the past was taken as the hero in his stead. He ends up at the literal edge of the world (of the world), barely surviving a freefall, have Tsukuyomi buff him, and survived.

What I find interesting of this novel isnt the MC nor his people. It is... more>> the way the author likes to justify every antagonist and every character MC met on their respective actions. If he made a character that people hates, he gives a belated chapter dedicated to explain and justify the character's actions. Not that it works much. People still hate on Tomoki, Hibiki and the Goddess.

Spoiler

The most hated would probably be the Goddess[Bug] that sent MC to the edge of the world. The justification is the Goddess is a severe tsundere, she was so sad that her people left her that she ends up being a hikikomori for years, even though her world is in shambles. When she met the child of the people she sent away, she decides to toss him somewhere far from the war and troubles, hoping he would survive without problem due to his lineage. She chose 2 other humans to replace MC as the heroes so he wont be burdened by that role.

Same goes towards almost every other villain in the novel. Rembrandt get his expose, but wasnt really related to the MC. Mio doesnt exactly have a decent backstory. The 2 heroes, Tomoki and Hibiki also gets their justification. Tomoki mostly being insecure of himself and gets manipulated by Lily to do her bidding unknowingly. Hibiki being too self-centered and believing her thoughts are the correct way to go.

[collapse]

Some might dislike this novel, calling MC naive and ignorant of the world and many more bad traits. In reality, what novel MC doesnt have a significant amount of bad traits. That is what shapes their characters, more than the good traits.

He was tossed to the edge of the world. In Japan he was living the ordinary student life, albeit being somewhat famous. Due to his heritage, he grew up weak, but due to his parent's insistence, he trained in various martial arts from childhood. Reaching high school he managed to be extremely talented in archery, so much that he is barred from entering tournaments. Then came the fated day, when he was supposed to know that he is to be transferred over to another world to be a hero, due to Tsukuyomi misunderstanding and the Goddess not explaining things properly. He sort of have the Goddess blessing, due to his parents, and received Tsukuyomi's buff up. Etc.

Tsukibro Respect.

Spoiler

In one of the POV/SS chapters it was mentioned he was supposed to die long before reaching high school, but survived his death due to an encounter with a 'Healer'. He was also mentioned to have awakened his talent, one that is worthless in a world like Earth, but he turned his back on it and creates his own talent in archery by being obstinate. There has yet to be any more mention of the 'Healer' nor the reason he was to die, but this would probably be the main reason for him being OP.

[collapse]

It has been a while since I actually truly liked a novel, after the baptism of A Song of Ice and Fire that kills almost every character that I enjoyed reading about. <<less

Started off really well, the way he 'obtained' his first two harem (?) members/subordinates. Was funny too. The world is rich, and characters unique and well defined. However as it continued, I lost my interest in reading - the story got complicated and aimless, as is the case with the MC. Further, just like the way MC keeps his subordinates/harem at arms length and never really gets close to them, we as the reader feel the same way too. Blegh, what a waste.

Spoiler

Everything is linked in the novel. Mio is the one that knows how to look the nature of people, as she could conclude the hero Hibiki and Makoto weren't compatibles. And know very well the true nature of Makoto that have yet to be revealed in detail, as Chiya describes him as a white figure holding dearly his bow, but a black crack on his neck, filled of killing intent, death or mu*der feeling/disgusting. Mio seems to know something about this, but Tomoe or Shiki doesn't have a clue about that.

It's note that he used to hesitated killing before, but when he hate someone (Samal) his true nature would smile of enjoyment, but still he hesitated to kill vim, just to torture him more.

Thanks to Tomoe's pact, Asora is born from Makoto's "Magic Power (?) ", this mean he have the power to creates things, later on he will learn how to be able to use it at will to a certain extent, in the fight agaisnt Sofia.

The others gods, apart from the "bug" know the pontential of Makoto, as they have the ability to judge people from the inside, unlike the "bug" that only cares for beautiful people. Casting aside the others races.

Looks like that maybe this world (not Asora) wasn't in control of the "bug", but she intervened on it creating hyumans which could or couldn't destroyed or even extingued communities, animals ñ, races, as the others gods said a world will be tainted the moment a god governs over it. Also as Neptune and other creatures weren't creation of the goddes.

Also looks like Makoto could be a deity, as the door Samal was a "god" as he said, but in order to become like that he comsume souls of people. Not a god as he couldn't defeat Atenea. But he strenght could damage gods.

As for those that said Makoto limited his grow: He is still cautious of the goddess and chose to limit his grow as he feared she would notice and dispose of him before he could do anything, later he learn how to hide it and get encouraged to start growing in power. It isn't said that he is training much as the author doesn't like to repeat how this go each time. But just tease us how he train. Still he is still cautious of the "bug" as he is constantly hidding his power, but not limiting his grow anymore.

Also he could travel to his former world Earth and Asora, as he can only open gates from where he was after obtaining Asora, but he still ne to go back to earth to be able to go between worlds, as Samal didn't knew about Asora until being summoned on it and know how to go to other worlds but you need to be able to survive the gateway. You can't survive the gateway without exceptions, Asora gate is one of those exception.

I reached the point where I couldn't stand it anymore. All of the development MC received went down the drain, he can't follow through on anything anymore.

Honestly, making this comment long after I stopped reading so memory is a bit hazey on the details, but he went from the experience of coldly and mercilessly killing people that detonated his phantom region to completely lacking any foresight and allowing future problems to crop up because he just lets any threats go. It stopped being about MC and follower antics and started... more>> being about politics and pet projects like a merchant trade and teaching at an academy. <<less

I don't know what y'all have a problem with but this is a great novel. It's starts out slow with a somewhat beta and spineless MC, which is a cardinal sin nowadays for some reason. The novel the evolves into a slice of life/action/adventure bonanza that I really enjoy.

The action scenes are few and far between which I could honestly do without, but when they do occur, they are always epic. Our boi becomes a beast without fundamentally changing his character, which I admire. We all like character growth, but authentic character growth doesn't just happen after a few life-changing events.

The romance - slow! Slow but I can accept it. There is a huge payoff if you're patient. Also, it feels reasonable in that he's not some jackass harem guy who drips plot-bending s*x appeal.

You're gonna read a lot of stuff that doesn't really affect the main story, but adds to the world. The world is full, like something you'd see in a well-made RPG. Our MC is never idle.

And finally, the main plot. Yeahhh, no. We're in it for the long haul. If you want this story to end quickly, don't bother.
