220 years ago, in the legendary Dragon Demon War, Hero Azell ended the war by killing the evil Dragon Demon race’s King Atein. He was able to save the population, but as a consequence, he was cursed. While he was dying, the high magician suggested a gamble that might save his life.

‘The Dragon’s hibernation is the only key to saving your life.’

Instead of a human’s sleep, he slept the sleep of the dragons and he was able to overcome the curse. Now he is realizing that he has slept way longer than a human’s life span.

Asserting now how amazing this KR gets.

Unique tropes, awesome lore, great war, fullness characters, routed paths.

True Hero that comes from classic literature books unlike modern stereotype. Where shown great endurance, courage, bravery in all despair and hopeless the world ransack during the war. Not only him that are legendary strong as there others like him at that time able to stand against the threat of humanity.

Awakened only to become stronger again. Retaining lost arts and fending off a new threat.

Spoiler

The Hero's enemy that follows their king even in death have survived. Like leeches, weakened humanity strength to fight like in the War in the past as they work secretly from the shadows like some kind of Illuminati.

It's my first experience with a Korean novel, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Rather than a protagonist who is straight up overpowered from the beginning, this one has to regain the power he used to have. There's a few points I like in particular:

The magic/qi/something ability, called Spirit Order here, is fairly unique with a detailed explanation early on.

Though the protagonist is without a overpowered, since he starts off having lost most of his power, he relies heavily on tricks and skill to fight. The author likes to explain... more>> in detail when that happens, something which might bore some readers, though I find it highly interesting.
Spoiler

Chapter 90, where I'm at currently, is where he's regained a lot of his power after a timeskip + received a powerful weapon. I'm expecting more standard OP-ness now.

What bothers me a little:

Terminology can get a little confusing. Dragon Demon, Dragon Demon Race, Dragon Demon Qi, Dragon Maken, Dragon Sword... There's a 'dragon' in what feels like everything, and you need to pay attention not to confuse the first two terms I listed here. <<less

This was a great and rare novel. There may not be many out there loke this.

This novel is set in a very turbulent era and is quite chaotic. You would expect a classic OP protagonist to sweep through everything but that is not really the case. I mean the protagonist is quite OP but he also couldn't have done anything without his comrades. Be it in the past or in present. This also somewhat brings out the 'war-like' feeling and tension and that the scale of things is quite large.... more>> This type of war with powerful characters was a new for me and I quite enjoyed it.

Hoo boy, you have to be a bit patient for this novel. I almost dropped this novel once around 200 or so. But after a short break, I again resumed and completed the novel. The ending made the long novel worth it.

Spoiler

Damn, I feel a bit bad in regards to Arrieta, but I also kinda like that MC chose only one girl in the ending. 'Harem' tag is just for show.

Although it is not for everyone, it was a great read. Give it a try ! <<less

The overarching plot reminds me of some of the shounen manga I have read. Anyway, the novel is pretty good and the lore of the universe is quite interesting. The flow of the novel is also consistent although it feels slow and draggy in the second half of the novel. Author also seemed to have difficulties in 'nerfing' the MC as he gets recovers his power and gets even stronger. The "Ring of Life" power system is also grossly underutilized and does not really help readers to compare MC's progress... more>> to his opponents. Overall, quite a good novel but it took extra willpower to finish it. 3.8/5 for me. <<less

I love this novel.
I think its amazingly well written - and its strength is the long, slow, expositions that others complained about.

There are those who dropped it early on, with questions such as why did character A do this? And why did character B...

Well. They should have read it to the end. Everything gets answered in good time, and a reason will also accompany the timing.

... more>> In terms of action, it delivered. The action was tense, and there is never a feeling that one side is overpowered.

If you love lengthy, philosophical expositions that explains all the lore of the world and the motivations behind each character, then you will love this novel.

I think its comparable to Dune. <<less

Start was really good. Progression is also good for the first 3 quarters of the novel. It just felt that it dragged on for too long. Action scenes were good at first. The details help understand the power levels of the characters. Problem is, too much details in fight scenes become tedious the longer the novel becomes. In this case, it begins when the power creep starts. When you get to know the power levels at the end, does that much detail matter? I don't know, it just became a... more>> really tedious read for me. From a fun and exciting read to a chore. The ending was good though, and most of the characters were given endings they deserved.

Overall, a good read and one that I enjoyed. Would I read it again? No.

Spoiler

Atein was too weird of a villain if you can even call him that. At the start he was really interesting, but as his plans are revealed, it became a really tedious read. Tl;dr: he was just in denial about wanting to become a god.

Starts out with a fun premise. Some weird akward phrasing that occurs repeatedly like "the man steeped in sin" or "dragon-demons", "dragon-demon race" vs just "dragon demon"; I don't know if its more a translation issue or a writing issue but the whole dragon-demon thing can get confusing. Its basically hybrids, then you throw in the hybrids of hybrids and you find yourself repeatedly wondering which one a person is at any given point in time since the terminology is a bit inconsistent. The story kind of meanders and gets... more>> bogged down in multiple points of view.

Also way too much of the exposition/info dump. <<less

Can't recommend this as I dropped it after struggling through almost 30 chapters. No, really, it was an actual struggle. Most of WuxiaWorld's translated novels are quite good (the translation of this is decent) but the story didn't grab me at all.

The summary of the novel lets you know most, if not all, of the relevant points of the MC's backstory. However, it feels like the first 30 chapters are a constant rehash of this, or the fact that he so weak now but was the strongest, blah blah blah.... more>> MC constantly makes comparisons to how he was in the 'past' or how things used to be before the event in the novel summary.

Honestly, it's tiring to read all of this backstory and world building all of the time right off the bat. There's so much of it too, and some of it feels like it's been repeated a few times. It takes away from the actual progression of the story, so the pace just crawls along. I found myself just skimming over 50% of the paragraphs in each chapter just to advance through the plot.

The MC has nothing going for him personality-wise. He's just kinda there, and with no changes in demenor. The very few fight scenes so far haven't stuck in my mind either. I get the vague feeling of 'it just happened this way' and that's it. Nothing memorable about this story at 30 chapters.

The story itself is only half way decent to the point I read up to, which is a shame because the premise presented in the summary is quite interesting. There are a lot of ways this story could have gone that could have been so much better, it feels like a waste.

Lastly, I found it hard to bear with the sound effects. They just weren't clear to me, and the translater has to make a note beside each one which states its purpose. For example: *Ggum-tul* is the sound effect for twitching. After a few chapters I was quite frustrated that these kept appearing. I would have been happier if the translater or author left these out, and simple described the action normally as part of the text. If you have a lot of patience and just want to binge something while waiting for other novels to update, then this could work for you. <<less
