When a futuristic scientist is transported into the body of a young man in a fantasy world, his curiosity and desire for power push him to pursue magic. In a world without mercy, Leylin has no qualms about doing anything if it means benefits. He is cold, ruthless and calculating, never forming attachments that could impede his ultimate goal…

Honor? Who needs that… Hmmm… that guy seems too powerful for me to take on now… I better keep a low profile for now.

You want me to help you? What do I get out of it? Nothing? Bye.

Hmm… that guy looks like he might cause me problems in the future. Better kill him before he becomes a problem…

[Warning: this is biased]

In order to get into a novel, I usually like to read comments, but don't be too influenced by this comment or others, you will never know until you try.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

... more>> For the review, you either love this novel or hate it. In Xianxia novels all character have a so-called "golden finger" or hidden cheat, which are objects, person etc.[If you don't like that stuff don't read this genre lol.] So if you don't like the MC relying on it then I suggest you turn away.

Is there any character development? Not so much.. But I enjoy reading the story and learning about the environment which the story creates. I read most of the novel already and it basically separated into three arcs which are basically the same thing [the actions or goals the MC has] with different characters and a different environment. Overall I personally I enjoy this novel, even with its flaws. <<less

This is a story about the darkest side of our humanity. Where even a child knows how to scheme, where everyone will choose to betray their own families if they get large benefits, where trust is only given to you when you hold the other person's life, where peoples lives are only worth dirt especially when youre weak and where the righteous people have short lives for being naive at not seeing the truth of how dark their world really is.

The only difference between this story and the real world... more>> is that we people have emotions and where Laws rule the world. But that small difference gives a big change to everything even though there are still crimes everywhere. I just hope that difference between the two will be maintained.

Btw, I f*cking love the story! <<less

I approached this book hoping for a bit of a change-up. I haven't become too jaded by the cliches of the genre yet but I was curious to see if I'd like something a bit different. Unfortunately, the only difference this book had was having an evil antagonist as the MC. So it was all the same cliches tied to an unlikable MC that just so happened to view all human beings as insects instead of the more typical hero MC. Some of those insects happened to interest him or... more>> bug him less than others. Some of the insects happened to be useful. However, all of the insects were instantly crushed if they ever cause the MC any discomfort or if they could be used to benefit him in any way. I guess you could consider that mindset to be cunning and calculating. For me, it just made the MC seem even more one-sided and bland than more typical ones because there was never any variation from that mindset. Another result of this view is that the MC will never have a meaningful interactions with another character in the future, so if you don't love the MC you're not going to meet any new characters to like. At least not ones in any good circumstances.

Also, I have to admit that I almost always root for the good guys in stories so I really shouldn't have even given this book a chance. However, I've seen a lot movies/series where the most interesting characters where the villain. Sometimes it was because they were better developed or the protagonists just happened to be particularly bland but one good thing about nearly all villains is that they almost always are the driving force to create change in their stories. That wasn't the case here though (may have been at some point but not in the first 200+ chapters at least). This MC was just a bland villain that reacts to and is controlled by his environment (he even said he rooted and worked for peace in his world but didn't in this new world because of those around him). Nothing to enjoy there for me. On a positive note, the way magus, knights, and warlocks evolved was pretty cool. That was what kept me reading for as long as I did. Unfortunate, all the heavy lifting in that side was done by the MC's artifact, the A.I. Chip, so that was yet another reason to be let down by this MC. <<less

People say that this novel has a good plot but I say its same thing over and over again.

Spoiler

Unlike the ignorant and arrogant MC who becomes an eyesore for a young master with powerful backing from other novels, this novel is almost same.

Although MC is calculative and doesn't kill people for face, the plot somehow gets him to offend a powerful organization and he runs into a powerful realm. Trains there. Comes back and takes revenge while saying "I don't care about revenge but since I had something to do here and I met the leader on the way I should very well take care of him and the organization" shit.

This novel was good till the MC went to the central continent. I still put up with it hoping for a different plot but nope. Same thing again. MC leaves the central continent saying its barren, lile the south coast and twilight zone and goes to World of Gods. I won't be surprised if he said that world of gods was barren and went to a higher realm like dreamscape or whatever. Anyway I'm dropping it.

The MC is a bully, no scratch that, a psycopath, no feelings, no atachments. He's described as a scientist, a logical person but that trait doesn't appear much in the novel, actually only in his background. What is show to us is a chauvinist, power driven mass mu*derer. His "awsomeness" comes from his cheat, the A.I. Chip, (wich is also a huge plothole), not from him. I've read 495 chapters looking for something in this work that would make up for the hype. Well is a story of a... more>> cruel human being, that aims to be strong and do whatever he likes. If you find that interesting suit yourself.

The way a see it, the real MC is the A.I. Chip. It does everything, amass and storage knowledge, making calculations, learning and moding spells, evaluate and creat countermesures against enemies, everything is the A.I. The atached human is plain and shalow and stays that way. The atached human alone would have died in the first chapters. <<less

Can't believe the amount of 1 star reviews complaining about the characters rationale and logical thinking. There are no fairy tales or princes here boys and girls. WMW has been one of the first novels I've read that I look forward to each new release. The MC is definitely on the darker side of things so if that is going to turn you off I suggest staying away from this novel.

Reads a lot like A Mortal's Journey to Immortality. MC starts out with avg talent and doesn't get involved in conflicts that have no benefits for him. The story structure is pretty similar too, it's basically arrive at a region as a relatively low powered shrimp > hide and gather resources > power up > pwn everyone that crossed him > move to new region and repeat. There's no real overarching plot besides the MC's desire to get stronger and all other characters besides the MC are kinda irrelevant and... more>> get deprecated once the arc finishes. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of these types of series (I like stories with strong overarching plots like BTTH, ATG, and ISSTH) but it's not bad for what it is. One knock is the OP AI chip that the MC has though, it literally does everything for him so that's kinda s*upid and cheapens the plot since the MC just commands the AI to do all his thinking and research for him. There's also a lot of telling vs showing and lazy exposition telling you how awesome the MC is or how his enemies will regret being arrogant to him in the future, so the quality of writing is passable but not amazing. If you can ignore these faults however, all in all it's a decent time killer. 7/10 <<less

It is wierd that most of the 5 star rating comes from the fact that the MC is different... But all of them disregard the fact that he has no depth, very shallow.

A simple self-centered, emotionless, manipulative psycopath is not a "good" evil character... And he got introduced as a scientist... very disturbing, is this how the author sees science?

I read 200+ chapters closer to 300. The MC had no character progression he does the same thing througout the chapters. The way Leylin interacts with others makes every potentially good... more>> side characters boring because you know he will use them and then throw them out after they lost their worth to him. <<less

Main character is too binary. Action A benefits him? Does Action A. Action B does not benefit him? Does not do Action B. Literally 0 thinking involved. Even more 0 thinking involved when an random computer AI in his head helps calculate whether the action is beneficial or not. 0 character development since he basically has no feelings/growth in personality. Makes the entire story just feel like a list of choices that are + or - for him and he just picks + everytime and then boom now he's the... more>> strongest person in the world.

TLDR; Character is 1 dimensional, He's the same person he was at the start, by the end of the novel besides the fact that he's stronger. <<less

Completely agree with Astaroth on all the complaints. MC is one of my favorite characters I've ever read about in any novel. He does what I can only wish I would be able to in his situations, which is why I respect his choices. If you read the description, read the novel, and then complain about a ruthless MC, then I can only say what did you expect!

I had to rate this novel, given the rather surprisingly low rating for what I think is one of the best novels currently available on the website. Unlike most stories, the lead is not a goody-two-shoes which makes for some very interesting plot development and each arc has gotten better. Definitely recommend WMW to anyone interested in picking up a new story.

This novel is about a cold MC, he is a scientist and we can see clearly, if you did not see it that means you didn't read enough because the number of experiments he does is in the (~~25000) he just do it later, don't make a review rejecting fact when you did not read it, if you don't want the usual type of novel this is what you need and this novel can you give an entirely different feelings. I advise every single person bored of the usual xuanhuan... more>> or xianxia novel to read this. This is a MasterPiece.

  1. Unlike stated in the early chapters, MC isn't a cold-blooded psychopath/sociopath. He's relatively friendly and helpful towards those close to him. I would say he's quite reasonable. He's willing to help those he finds worth helping and doesn't mind wiping a horde of his enemies. Still, he doesn't really enjoy killing hordes of innocents, so there is surely some bottom line (he doesn't needlessly bully others, either). I find this type of MC really refreshing after all the usual tree-huggers willing to jump to the seventh hell to save someone they just accidentaly met. If only MC didn't repeat so often how cold-blooded and calculative he is, his behaviour would be quite reasonable.
  2. The plot is pretty straightforward and could use some depth. Still, its relatively enjoyable.
  3. AI chip... well... it's kinda OP. But that's typical for the genre.
  4. More than one wife, but not really a harem. Quite reasonable and didn't seem really forced.
  5. Really lacked plot twists and cliffhangers. Battles were usually quite easy and it didn't give me much thrill. I get the feeling that most of the situations get solved within a chapter or two.

I meant to give this story 2-3 stars. It starts off fine, the AI chip is super OP but I didn't mind. I liked that the MC was pretty reasonable and mage system was pretty interesting. But the author does a poor job of world building and a lot about the world doesn't make sense and is hard to ignore. Like the MC nor anyone else seems to know how large the world or even an estimate to the size of the continent they are on despite them having blimps... more>> Or the author's really bad concept of money where a single crystal is worth a fortune and people sacrifice thousands of soldiers for a single crystal, yet the smallest denomination of money in the magus world is 1 crystal, not even a fraction of one. And despite the AI chip that makes no sense and the author's terrible writing of any character other than the MC I kept reading cause it still was fun and entertaining and the MC was a character I liked. But then around chapter 100 it started to get too painful to read... The MC would spend chapter upon chapter talking about how he was not going to help people because they were disposable and kept repeating it over and over. I get that you're a ruthless MC and that you don't care about others, but can you stop talking about it and just to somewhere else instead of detailing everyway that you don't plan to help someone. Be ruthless and stfu, in the time you kept telling readers how ruthless the MC was for multiple chapters in a row he could have just saved them and then ignored them after. After this it kept getting worse, story lost its direction and you didn't even know why the MC was trying to get strong anymore <<less

Great premise and start but became slow and I became "detached" from the MC due to his personality. Cold and calculating characters are great but even scientists (me - Anthropologist) have a conscience. When the MC started experimenting on people then dissolved them... it threw me off the band wagon. It would've been better if he started evil or people just perceive him to be a "evil" but he's actually not. Many of this genre from Chinese authors seems to be very materialistic and so greedy that it makes me... more>> shudder. Although I liked the last one this author wrote... this one seems greedier and the MC is not very like-able. Jerk or evil MCs are awesome like Ash from Evil Dead, Overlord or Hannibal Lecter.

If you like uninteresting sociopath MCs then read this novel. I read up to 180 then moved on. <<less

I mean, his supposed to be a scientist or researcher, right? So I was expecting that he will be really smart and handle magic well because of his wits, but he's relying to much in his A.I. CHIP.

It was too the point that the A.I. CHIP felt more like the protagonist, doing everything.

[collapse]

I'm not saying this story's bad, I'm just dissatisfied with how the story developed. But there are good points as well.

For instance, the MC. He's realistic, he knows his limits and he doesn't seek fame, and I admire that he isn't the usual reckless, overbearing protagonists, but he is very careful with his choices.

Just that, he depends too much on his A.I. CHIP.

As for the plot, it's not very 'stimulating' and I don't think all those technical words and information is very necessary. Its like they just exist to fill uo the chapters, and that's boring me.

I'll be dropping this, for now. But with personality, I'd probably check this back again. Someday. <<less

This is simply amazing. You should reach chapter 100+ for the novel to be AMAZING but it's really good early on too. In the later chapters, this will just be too great. If you like killing peop... I mean if you like MCs that have no qualms about killing people for personal gain and no attachment (no romance and the like), this is the one for you.

Latest 2 chapters (ch 756-757) blew my mind. The plot is so well written, everything was foreshadowed, yet NO ONE thought that THIS is what would happen. This novel is a must-read, even if you don't like the personality of the MC. With time, he will grow on you, just like all those other cookie-cutter MCs that you come across in Xianxia.

Do yourself a favour and read this. Now.

Really nice read, but novel sometimes gets "dry reading" feeling. Would be nice to get more romance and interaction with other characters. You know then characters named "Servant 1 (1-5) ", it will not end well for them. MC 10/10, but this OP AI Chip feels too OP. For example - how can it calculate how will the fight go if it didnt even saw any opponents skills?

I tried to give this novel a chance, I really did, but I can't understand how this one is currently ranked #1 in the monthly rankings.

  • The MC is a huge as*hole without much of a personality or any morality, who doesn't really care about anyone except himself.
  • The side-characters are bland and barely developed, though even the MC isn't much better in that regard.
  • The author doesn't do much in the way of world building.
  • The MC uses his A.I. Chip for nearly everything, so you really can't tell that he's supposedly an intelligent scientist.
The only reason I'm not giving the novel 1/5 is that these things aren't the translators fault.
