Easily cowed and bullied, she was the useless, ugly woman with no talent in medical skills. Supported by millions, he was Tianning’s most respected duke with the power to move all under Heaven. On their wedding day the bridal sedan was carried to the front doors, but the Duke of Qin’s gates were shut tight.

They told her, ‘Come back tomorrow.’

All alone, she walked step-by-step full of pride through the duke’s doors. Little could they imagine, this unattractive good-for-nothing was a beautiful, genius doctor of poisons!

After transmigrating to the past, poisons expert Han Yunxi finds herself on the verge of being married off to the country’s second most powerful man, the Duke of Qin. Her future life seems set–except her husband is an unfeeling ice block, her in-laws think she’s a eyesore, the empress dowager wants to use her for her own goals, and poison-related plots abound.

Alone, the intelligent (and sensible) Yunxi must carve her own space from the intricate web of court intrigue and the jianghu, relying on her words, wits, and wisdom to survive. Adapt when necessary, use force when required; to survive and thrive is the name of the game to a prosperous life.

No matter what, she’ll prove her right to live!

Love it.... this is one of the best webnovel I have ever read. It has romance, actions, humour, medicine/medical, politic etc. I hate the male lead in the early chapters, but he slowly fell for our FL and when he realized that he loves FL he became completely adoring. He became sweet, protective and treat FL like she's the most special girl in the world and that makes every girls jelly ??? enough to want to kill FL.

It's been a while since the las updates...i hope volarenovels wont quit tranlating... more>> this story.. pleasseee.. pleasee pleaseee <<less

I have watched the drama (legend of Yun Zi), finished it (raw only), it doesn't even disappoint me a bit (well the ending confused me a bit, but I haven't read the whole novel). I wanted to read the novel after watching the drama adaptation.

The reviews are a bit off, I might say. When I choose to read something I often read the comments first. But reviews/comments are disappointing. I like the slow progression of the novel, the translator (s) were awesome (2 thumbs up for you). I'm not into... more>> transmigration stories (some of it are pretty lame and repetitive), but the story line and translation is so good I am hooked. Not so many r*pey scenes so I can definitely recommend this to my nieces, though I need more lovey dovey stuff with the ML's, but I can deal with it because the author wanted to get the story as close as to normal relationship as possible.

Waiting for more updates..... <<less

1 star for the translation. Ruyi is very dedicated and thorough. She churns out chapters frequently and always keeps readers updated if she's busy. Really easy to read and understand her writing.

1 star for the long chapters. It frustrates me to read novels that has 4 paragraphs for one chapter. What's the point? Nothing happens! This story is different. Lots of things happen in one chapter. Story progresses fast too. Just when you think Han Yunxi is safe and just enjoying her day something abruptly happens then the next adventure... more>> begins. I like how the universe is still expanding with new cities and characters. Love it!

1 star for Han Yunxi. She is not all powerful nor have plenty of cheats. (She has 1 cheat). Besides her poison skills, she is a very normal person which I find refreshing. ML (and other guys) fall for her because of her personality not because of her pretty face or her (awesome) poison skills.

1 star for Long Feiye. He was really hard to root for in the beginning because of his denseness and personality, but I think I started liking him when he started liking Han Yunxi. I like how the author makes him a main character and not just the male love interest so we get to know his inner thoughts and know his reasoning for his actions.

And finally 1 star because it's really fun to read. The characters are complex, each with their own secret motives. Even side characters and villains have motives which we can understand from their pov. <<less

Why isn't there a single decent secondary female character in this story??

There are decent secondary male characters aplenty (some whose whole purpose is to adore the MC), but every other female character's role in the story is to either hate or be jealous of the MC.

To tell you the truth, I think this is my favorite C-novels. I have a lot of close favorites, but this is one of the ones that have me the most excited when I see an update. There are others that get me equally excited, but I feel as if this one is set apart from the others for quite a few reasons, which is why it's placed above the others in my heart.

Many C-novels with reincarnation/ transmigration have MCs that are way too overpowered and number 1 of this... more>> and that. And many times, the background story of the MC is unbelievable or unrealistically used for the convenience of certain plot points. In this novel, the female lead's one cheat is the detox system in her brain. It's powerful, but not exaggeratingly so like other cheats I've seen. And her background in the modern world was actually believable and realistic.

The thing I'm sure most people are concerned about is the romance. I'll tell you this: it's slow as hell. The male lead is a living, breathing ice cube. But that's why I love him. It took forever for him to thaw, but when he did melt, he didn't fall for her calm eyes or because she did one thing and impressed everyone with her cheat abilities (she's actually one of the few MCs who keep their modern morals even in the ancient Chinese atmosphere and setting; doesn't mean she's a pushover though). It took time, but he fell for her. Not Wei Yang, Yun Qian Meng, Jun Wu Xie, Wei Luo, Feng Qi Qi, or any other MC in the xianxia genre. He fell for her, Han Yunxi. And after he realized it, he would never let her go.

And that's weight-y to me because if I'm going to be honest, I feel like a lot of the MCs, not just the ones I mentioned above, are very similar to each other. Too similar, that if you replaced one MC and inserted her with another one like her, the male lead for the first wouldn't be able to tell the difference in terms of personality. He would fall for her all the same. If not at first, but eventually.

But I can't say the same for the ice cube male lead for this one. He fell for every bit of her, not her coldness or amazing abilities. Because they were both on the same boat in a way in the beginning, their relationship was built on trust and a little understanding as it eventually came to be.

But I feel like a lot of you won't believe me if you go and read this. I've seen people drop the book in the first 100 chapters and label it as another average book before it became really good. When you're reading the book and keep thinking on how bad the male lead, no matter what you do, if my words hold any weight to you, remember what I said. And if you really, really hate him and want to drop the book because of him, skip to one of the latest chapters and you'll be shocked at how different he is from before his ice melted. Use your curiosity to read through the rest of the chapters and find out why and how he melted. It'll be worth it. I promise. (Unless you're an even bigger ice block than he is and that's nearly impossible.)

But once again, I highly suggest reading this on the original source. The translator, Ruyi, doesn't want people reading her hard work on another site, including Wattpad. She's repeatedly asked those who posted her translations on Wattpad to take them down, but more keep posting them.

If you think there's no benefit for you if you read from the original site, think again. Because at a certain point in the story, Ruyi started writing her own mini teasers in the form of text posts at the end of each chapter. The text posts consist of interactions between the characters in the story along with Chinese drama scene gifs that are well suited for the situation. She has a great sense of humor and the teasers are hilarious. Many people who were impatient with the male lead taking too long to thaw actually stayed just for the teasers alone. They were just that good. And another thing they did was show the male lead's inner thoughts for the MC that he wouldn't have expressed himself in the story. It made the wait for his springtime all the more bearable. <<less

I just want to start off by saying that this is my favorite novel. It's a shame that some individuals gave this a low rating either because of the ML's treatment towards the FL or because they only read the first 100 or so chapters. Sure, he treated her terribly and just downright didn't care for her at first but if you are patient and continue to read, our lovely ice block melts and he will melt you along with him.

Anyways, let's get down to the story. It's definitely got... more>> a bit of everything from action to romance to drama and even a little mystery. We get to follow along as our FL Han Yunxi treats poisons, uncovers mysteries, solves mysteries and falls in love with the literally and figuratively coolest ML ever Long Feiye. Like I mentioned earlier, this is my favorite story not just because of the plot but because of the character development. Not only do we get character development from our two leads, we also get some from our secondary characters and that is something that I always enjoy reading in a novel. So, if you are looking for a novel that always has something exciting going on with steady character development I would recommend you to read this. As a bonus you get to read what I believe to be one of the best romances, if not the best romance, in the Chinese novel universe. Happy reading! <<less

Oops meant to give it 3 stars but it won't let me change it. Anyway..

This novel is yet another modern genius doctor female lead arriving in the body of some unfortunate young miss in ancient times about to be married to some ice statue male lead.

What sets this apart from the other similar novels, at least a little bit anyway, is how unreasonable all the female lead's opponents are. They're ridiculously vicious and cruel, but not very subtle or intelligent about it.

Spoiler

she happens across someone injured, sees that he's poisoned and tries to help. She ends up a suspect.. No.. The ONLY suspect and almost EVERYONE is trying to pin this crime to her. This is like the first event in the book. The thing is, it's not just her enemies. The father of the injured person also instantly believes she was the assassin, regardless of the fact she's extremely high up in the social hierarchy due to her marriage. She's whipped and tortured, thrown in jail all with no evidence. Now, I'm not saying this couldn't be done, but it just felt so ridiculous and almost unbelievable in how it happened.

[collapse]

Every time anything goes wrong, almost everyone instantly blames her, regardless of how ridiculous they sound. Doesn't seem to be any logic involved.

The male lead is the utter definition of the generic ice block stereotype. I'm sure in later chapters he'll have some tragic reason, but he treats her like a servant or worse most of the time.

All in all, it just doesn't feel good to read. Her counter attacks to most of these schemes seem incredible weak at times as well, making it even less enjoyable.

5/5 translation and editing work though. <<less

Althouh this story has more than 1000 chapters, I really like it. It is not slow paced and doesn't have so much filler chapters. You will still get a lot of descriptions of beautiful people and landscape, but it doesn't take all chapter, without advancing in the story.

So far, one of my all-time fav novel. This type of MC is 10000 times better than that type of buddha statue from Genius Doctor: BBM. I prefer the smart type, not the ruthless. I pretty much don't care about the low pace romance or the craziness / non-sense of few parts as I was taken by the "scene" as a whole. No rush. No miracle romance. No one truly knows what the other is really thinking. Well balanced.

This is my most favorite novel! Han Yunxi is a super smart but not OP MC that while in love with the ML wont let him walk all over her. On the other hand the ML is super possessive but hasn't realized that he is in fact in love. LOL hopefully he realizes while he still has a chance: which brings me to another point, while there are others who are clearly or most likely in love with the MC she doesn't even place them in her sights. She has... more>> eyes only for Long Feiye. This novel has lots of twists and turns and is truly one that deserves many more stars then just 5. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this one. <<less

YES. FINALLY, a novel with an MC who's not an OP medical genius. FINALLY, an MC who's actually relatable (and has a sense of humor... bonus!). FINALLY, a novel with a semblance of a plot. Not to mention an absolutely amazing translator, who only made the story more enjoyable.

I'd take off stars, however, for the buildup. It starts off slowly and progresses slowly. VERY slowly, though at least not as much compared to some other novels I've read (*cough* SSMD *cough*). It feels like some of the chapters are completely... more>> unnecessary, and sometimes I find myself skimming through the chapters, only half-reading the words on the page. Not a good sign.

Also, I didn't take off any stars for this, but I was a little miffed about the romance. The main lead is literally an arrogant, emotionless prick in the first 200 or so chapters of the novel. Why does Han Yunxi even fall for him? Because of his captivating looks? I think I missed the chemistry here. But then again, this superficial "love" seems to be a recurring theme in a LOT of Chinese novels, so I won't judge this one too harshly.

In a nutshell, if you're the kind of person who can overlook these mistakes for a well-written novel with a kickass heroine, this one's for you. <<less

The main positive side of this novel is its likeable characters. I really like Han Yunxi's personality: she is determined facing head on her hardships without being over confident. Her cheat, a system able to detect poison and produce antidotes, well fits and blands into the story. After waking up in the body of a stranger and being thrown into an unwanted marriage, she quickly adapts trying to live with the new family who despises her. Her initial wish is to live like a "leisurely cloud", in a peaceful and... more>> uneventful trying not to bother anyone. Of course, her wish is short-lived as she attracts misfortune.

The male lead has a plausible attitude: he is also forced into the marriage but instead of mistreating or bullying the female lead, he initially chooses to ignore her while later using her for her poison skills. He is cold and arrogant, so he will take a while to realize how Han Yunxi is more than a tool who will conquer a piece of his heart. The plot is well-paced with varying short arcs and many secondary characters who, more or less, have a proper personality. Finally, I want to praise the translator for her steady good work and the extra effort she puts in preparing nice and funny teasers for the next chapter. <<less

Overall, the plot is great with level headed MC and the iceberg.

The reason why I gave 4 stars only and not 5 stars for this is because I find that MC has too many enemies to the point she can even dare to threaten the emperor which I find it kind of absurd.

It's tasteful and interesting. I'm not much for the intrigue or the ideas about "face" their society has. I prefer when honor is a bit more natural and reasonable, while being less about... human ideas and whatever society they ended up with.

Still an amazing series for me. Even though I disregard some of the major concepts and content, the tone kept makes it easily digestible to me.

MC is a smart protagonist. MC isn't entirely formidable, she has her flaws and weakness but she overcomes them with her knowledge (poison, medicine) from her post transmigrate self. I really like her character development, its realistic. I've read other similar stories but most MCs are either too powerful or too revengeful, which makes the story arc too predictable and boring. Don't expect a lot of romance as of ch102, the romance is slow building as its a long novel and theres 1000+ chapters left. Male lead is likeable in... more>> my books, he is the tsundere type– slow and indirect show of affections. Not complaining yet from the lack of romance as storyline is interesting thus far. I've been thoroughly enjoying MC's antics and adventures.

Translations are done really well. (No matter how good the original story is, I will drop it if the eng trans are horrible). Conversation/dialogues are very witty. 5x chapters per week, a fairly good schedule. Chapters are long and adequate in quenching my thirst for more. I hope to see till the end of the entire novel! <<less

Starts pretty well, but about a 1/3rd of the way through I just didn't care and pretty much hated everyone and frequently found myself falling asleep from the repetitive use of a very few plot devices.

Spoiler why I came to hate the characters and the plot elements tat got on my nerves

Han Yunxi: MC, a lightweight Mary Sue. Not horrible at the start but experiences negative growth over time. A doctor/toxicologist who knows virtually no common medicine except when it's convenient and all of a sudden heart surgery is no problem. She also spends most of her time poisoning people rather than curing them.

Long FeiYe: ML treats everyone badly. How this guy has any followers would be a great mystery if he were real

Han Yunxi's female foils: These girls are all there to say "I hate Yunxi she's not worthy of LFY, he should be mine" then concoct some pathetic plan that blows up and leaves them badly off. Some variations include instead of LFY you can also insert random 2nd Ml.

Notable members Duanmu Yao, Princess Changping, Mu Wanrong, Mu Lingue, Chu Quingue,

HY's father: Decides to scar, beat, and oppress the child of the woman who was his benefactor because why not?

The Han Clan: MC's nominal 'Family' The nicest thing anyone can say about any of them is they saw a relative being beaten and bullied and did nothing. Later serve as a foil to show how nice and honorable MC is

Mother In Law: Cares about her face and reputation so, uch she makes certain her son's wedding is a farce that will turn them into laughingstocks

Baili Mingxiang : The obligatory character that's too mice and selfless, right up to the point she turns on the MC so MC can show she's even better and nicer

It goes on but you get the idea.

[collapse]

Normally I like this stuff. I'm 1500 chapters into genius doctor black belly miss, and over 1000 chapters into Miracle Pill maker bullies the boss. But this was so much of the same thing over and over again it was mind numbing. There was also just so little believability in the characters it just got painful <<less

I used to adore this novel and translator was one of the main reasons as s/he made a stellar job at conveying the story to us, english readers but at the last arc or even a lot earlier than that it become obvious how characters were in a stalemate, all their spark have started to wane after Yunxi's life became more dedicated to Feiye.

I really didn't care about Feiye, his ambitions or whatever, Yunxi was the shining star who did everything by herself and created her own turf, raised her... more>> own power but also they were such a power couple which was a huge bonus. Yet at some point Yunxi regressed to someone "less" and I used to love her. I no longer feel the same, translator has gone into a long hiatus and even posted her own fall out with the novel and back than I even shielded the characters but now I see how right she was and I don't even know if I'll ever pick up this novel back again. <<less

I think the story overall is nicely written. But I can't help but feel that although the story revolves around the FL, the theme is really androcentric, centered towards the development of the ML's character and his backstory, him being the prince and future emperor. The FL's really just the supporting character. This becomes obvious on the second half of the story. Yes, the FL's identity is awesome but her efforts are all to support the ML to ascend to the highest seat of power. It may look like the... more>> ML wants to protect her bla bla bla but he is also a man with great ambition. And the FL is her biggest stepping stone, obviously. They are much in love in the story, cheesy in a way that the ML is almost always condascending, he looks like a god and acts like some macho tough guy. Some people love to read this kind of pitiful romance. Oh well, just not my cup of tea. <<less

This is one of the best Chinese novel translations in my opinion. What I love particularly are:

1. Protagonists - both are equally strong and intelligent. The really work well as a team but can perform miracles even when apart.

2. Plot - it is very neatly executed and unfolds with purpose.

... more>> 3. Side characters - unlike other stories, there aren't many cannon fodder characters. Each villain has a clear purpose, motive and plot and the secondary leads and characters are fleshed out well enough to feel like family.

4. Love story - theirs is a slow but steady and solid build. You can really see them falling in love. It makes you cheer for them from the bottom of your heart. <<less

plot and writings fine- decently mediocre as you would expect. But to sum it up it's a "realistic" transmigration novel written by somebody with deep-set misogyny issues as expected since it's from china. The girl's super clingy to the ML she a strong independent woman that need no man except she just so happens to need this one. A lot. Also villains are annoying but tolerable. She also leads on the other mls "unintentionally". The 200s-300s were good, it was very sweet, plot was going, less annoying ppl, but then... more>> the girl starts emulating ML who is cold as*hole extreme (we have no need for another) and starts getting crueler and she's getting really greedy and grasping for power I feel (at owning 1/2 of pill valley) and other mls are just enabling her poison boi is a doormat who is also callous to mu girl. North king dude almost r*ped her, doctor boi is sadly a ML too (where the good bromances dude?) and SAD AND SUFFERING (tm) (best one out of all of em tho). To sum it up everyone's becoming too much of an as*hole for me to enjoy. <<less
