Due to a mistake on his student’s part, a super Martial Artist had received a wrong class in an online game and had become a mage. He who was used to curbing violence with violence and using strength to subdue strength could only make the best out of his mistake. Taking on a new lease in life, he became a violent close combat mage. When strength and magic came perfectly together, a new gaming path had been opened by him!

______

“Fireball spell? Lightning Chain? Frosted Ice Mirror… etc.”

“Wait, I came here to practice Kung Fu! What has magic got to do with me?”

“I am a mage?”

“Oh, that’s right. I am a Mage!”

“However… do you really firmly believe that I am a mage?”

“Alright then, look at my knives! Look at my sword! Look at my fist! Look at my concealed weapons!”

“What? You’re now saying that I’m not a mage?”

“If you don’t believe me, I will prove it to you: If you believe me, I will show you a performance: No one can get in the way of a mage who knows Kung Fu!”

Quite underrated in my opinion. It is a nice action, slice of life story which is quite humorous as well. There is a uniqueness in a story which I find admirable in the sea of repetitive novels around. Definitely worth a read.

I don't understand why people hate the female characters in the novel. Xiaotian, July, Vast Lushness etc are entertaining characters with self worth and characters not built for being 'jade beauty' in mc's possession like 90% of CN novels.

Pretty good so far, readers of King's Avatar may recognize the same author, BLUE BUTTERFLY.

This novel has alot of similarities to King's Avatar, such as a large focus on a small group of characters, somewhat op MC and of course the video game setting. But this novel is more humorous and does a better job in showcasing the video game world.

My expectations as I continue reading is that there are more large scale guild v gulid battles going forward. These sort of battles were largely uncovered in TKA and are... more>> the highlight for me so far.

[Added info after chapter 700]

Past hundred chapters and expectations have been met so far. My main gripe right now is that when the novel has a cool plot line long going, the author favors to drops it or ends it prematurely for another plot line. This has happened several times in the last couple of chapters and I hope that the plot lines come back or are better resolved that on in the story.

Teaching NPC's Kung fu when?

Edit: 750 ch

Going to put this on hold for a bit. There is an interesting battle going on, but the focus is squarely put onto the antagonists' way of thinking, probably eventually leading up to MC doing some miraculous out of the hat combat sequence to win. <<less

im struggling really hard to continue reading the part where he met thief lady in the earlier part of the story, I thought the MC is just a game novice and it will going to improves but I was wrong... he is just a manchild, stubborn and will do anything to keep his "s*upid good guy" title

Bad writing for the most part.

Spoiler

MC starts with a mage class due to mistake. Huge plothole.

Students made a second account with mage class? Everyone is only allowed 1 account later on so how did his student do it?

He puts everything in agility and he only get 0.85 attribute for that so wasting over 30% of his potential stats already. Waste account.

All jobs only have 8 skills at lvl 40 even after job advancement. Will lose a level a all exp upon death so basically losing 2 level if exp is almost full. Even skills will be lost even if you used a scroll to get it so if you spent several hundred or thousand dollar to get a skill a get killed at lvl 40 you lose it and all proficiency. A game where you lose hundred or thousands of dollar value date every time you die yet with such huge amount of professional player killing workshop is bullshit. Huge groups of people who take killing and farming low level player for equipment is actually possibly?

Even though it is VR many thing work like a 2 d game in the fact that the mechanics are s*upidly simple and make no sense in a 3d environment. Looks great, but everything else is fake as can be so as not able to use left arm when right arm is dominant one. Everyone one armed in that world? Gamers are all criminals since they rob people for a living no way anyone would play a game where you can lose 100 even 1000 dollars worth of equipment to farmers and pks. No way huge group can make a living with just that either.

GM starts a group to hunt MC down, and MC is putting everyone in trouble without a care because he is a martial fool. Even though MC is not the strongest cause his cousin is more of a game balance breaker so the gm should kill himself for being a criminal. MC is not strongest or anything he is just unlucky.

Deleting account when the player has not been online for 30 days, just making the account and playing const a fortune of so they said can they really just delete something someone paid hundred if not thousands of dollars for.
tr*sh game, no sense world. Dumb characters. Really dumb characters.

Where the hell have all the chapters gone!?

In all seriousness though, majority of the people who have voted on 1 or 2 stars have read the novel with something else in mind. Everyone expects him to be trying to become a pro or be it related to esports. Wrong, this novel is about a man who was trained in kung-fu, and yet was limited to its use as he was not only a teacher but because his master saw kung-fu as a way of training the body and mind, not... more>> as a weapon. Our MC goes headfirst into this vrmmo because he wants to improve his kung-fu, because he wants to fight, because he doesn't agree with his father's view on the martial arts.

This actually happens quite often in real life as well, some see Kung-fu in a spiritual way, some as a way to train the body, while others see it as a weapon to be honed and perfected.

Unfortunately for our protagonist, he gets thrown into the mage class, not the fighter class. He gets friends who he wants to beat the sh*t out of on multiple occasions and is pretty overpowered.

Alot if people have a problem with the style, I've read sh*t from Terror Infinity, to Warlock of the Magus World and When a Mage revolts and let me tell you now, the writing style is unique, sure. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I for one enjoyed it heavily, I was at chapter 250 or somewhere around the 200s before it somehow got wiped from existence. How sad.

Regardless, the game itself is mediocre, but that's because the game is barebones. It's close to real life if it had a 'Gamer' system so to say. You can do anything, anywhere at anytime, with some limitations of course. It's not supposed to be filled with features, it has the basics and the rest is all world building. If you read far enough, the quests he goes on and finds are marvelous and excellently written a d planned. Therefore, the argument of the game being 'bad', 'barebones' or 'tr*sh' are irrelevant and should not be used as an argument due to the fact that it was made that way in the first place. And damn, does it fit.

At a certain point you continue reading this with 20% care for the environment and world building, 50% care for the characters and the protagonist and 30% wanting to know whats next, who's he gonna piss off and beat up, or who's he's gonna get beat up by.

He is by no means the best, there are people better than him his class has downsides, he gets robbed, he robs others, he does have trouble with characters and npcs, he doesn't always have his way. As a player, he is lackluster, but as a martial artist, he rocks. His mentality is different from others. He does this for fun, but he never wants to let his character die. <<less

Nothing much to expect from this novel really. To me the story is rather boring, sometimes I feel like I'm reading a game walktrough and sometimes like a dull biography thingi. There are nothing much exceptional about the characters, they are just there to play so and so. Prolly the MC's group is a lil bit more interesting, just interesting nothing more. Yeah it is pretty similar to another vrmmo story (can't remember it's title, and I find it better compared to this one)

Unlike other LN like this, the protagonist doesn't get so OP that he loses his weakness or they don't end mattering. He is a magw fighting as if he was a combat class, so he is not as strong as if he had picked a combat class and he always runs out of mana.

The story thus far has been a fun read. Nothing exceptional plot- and general development-wise for the genre, but it's certainly entertaining. The combat scenes are especially enjoyable, as one might expect considering the martial arts focus.

I love it.

It's lit, fun, enjoyable

U can't expect much from character as they are set in stone and believe me it's fun to read as they are..

I was quite tired with wuxia novels, in those whoever become villain are arrogant as fart, they are selected as top pedigree by natural selection but when meeting MC there minds go bam and gets arrogant as hell 99% of them and everything can be turn in insult to them like is he looking down and all. They don't take think of this I... more>> won't ever be counter attacked and when that happen they get fck as arrogant not thinking logically..

This novel gave me some relief and is so good <<less

I like this story well enough, mostly on the strength of the side character's entertaining personalities. On the other hand, the world building could use some serious work. The game system feels superfluous. The cities have no appreciable depth. The martial arts background hasn't been expanded on at all, but that could just be something covered later though.

I'd recommend this is you're short on reading material. Just don't set your expectations too high.

The concept is interesting, and the execution is done decently. No big flaws, but the story isn't the most exciting.

The characters are fun, even if some are flat. I like how the MC isn't totally dumb. No romance, but the girls aren't very interesting. Actually, a few are, but as a guild, the girls aren't interesting.

The interactions and strategies are interesting. I actually like this better than The King's Avatar because I prefer this premise better.
