It's started nice and the reviews said that is nothing like all the bland WN out there but I was extremely dissapointed that it Is, the MC is bland and all the Females he meets fall in love or get attached to him right away.

Also it feels unrealistic and unreasonable the way he obtains all his powers, at the speed he is going in 80 chapters he could rival the greatest magicians that currently live and in a few more either all the Gods will fall in love with him... more>> or he will become stronger then them useing a new seal/feature of the grimore or one of the endless book writers. <<less

Great book! Not perfect but still, one worth spending time to read!

I had lots of fun reading this novel. The translation is great too! Few twist here and there. Bringing few mythologies from greek, roman, japan, and few more I didn't really peruse into.

The spell Abracadabra turns me off though. It sounds cheap and weak somehow. Surpised the Author didn't come up with a cool sounding spell name considering he come up with Abraxas, Keraunos and etc

This is one of those novels that I was hoping to get drawn into but sadly I never did. I barely scratched my way to chapter 20 and that was only because I was bored and had nothing else to do but even then it was a struggle. My main issue with it so far is as follows:

    • Lack of Character: Honestly, the story so far lacks any sort of character whether it be in terms of the world or the personalities shown within and this creates a very hollow and shallow story with only the progression itself being it's sole purpose. Theo is the standard protagonist which in itself is fine as a protagonist without a ton of personality makes it easier for the reader to be absorbed into the perspectie, however, every other character is lacking at best which is a no-no.
    • Pacing: Utterly terrible, there is little to no thought put into the pacing of the story, Theo gets lickitung and then immediately starts powering up. He then gets drawn into a conflict in a class battle and shows off his new powers, issue is there was zero build up to this battle. We didn't see much if any bullying being directed at Theo, no other student before this battle was in direct conflict with him excluding a small scene, he just makes a few passing remarks about his past few years in school as being horrible and as a result secluded himself in the library. There was no gratification due to the lack of build up, lack of character and so on...

Extremely well written and entertaining novel! It's definitely in the top 3 LN's I have read! The world is well written, the characters have their own flavors and it helps you invest more in what happens. The plot is quite nice as well - keeping things interesting! It's a must read for everyone!

I really like it. The beginning is slow but once the magic contest is over the story really picks up. There are a few spots where it gets slow but those only last for a few chapters, considering how quick the chapters are to read it’s not really noticeable if you read a bunch of chapters at once. On that note I’ve read all 309 chapters in 4 days which should show you how hooked I am. If you can get through the first 50ish chapters you should get hooked.

Although... more>> it has the dense protagonist tag, Theodore admits he refuses to accept any of the girls’s feelings because he doesn’t feel qualified. He notices their affection and chooses to dodge them. <<less

Interesting story with an interesting concept. It's nothing really new. Weak person gets stronger. The main character is highly intelligent and resourceful. I always enjoy reading stories like this.

However. There are a few flaws that have me frowning. The main character is a hypocrite. A few times he acts like he's some self-proclaimed hero of justice that won't tolerate anything. The pirate arc for instance. What right did he have to interfere there? It just doesn't make sense for his character in my opinion. Maybe it's a character flaw the... more>> author intended, but I don't think so.

Secondly, I hate the harem genre. I truly do. However even I can tell when the author's done a poor job at it. Maybe I should be thankful for this, but it just feels... weird. A lot of the characters feel one-dimensional. No room for growth.

Thirdly, I don't think there's any point in talking about probability when it comes to his abilities. You know it'll always be in his favor. It's frankly s*upid to even include it, and in the end you realize how much plot armor the main character has. I'm not saying he should die or anything, but he's constantly being thrust into overwhelming danger and always escaping it by pulling some trick out of his ass. I guess, it's the deus ex machina of it all that I dislike.

Despite everything, I still enjoy reading this series. It's something to read when you're bored. I'd pick it up on a rainy day or something. <<less

I have to say myself this is the only novel I have to say very bland. You will surely master poker face with this novel. This one like the MC gets a power he uses it in next one and gets another power uses it in next arc, if he doesn't have that power which he got in last arc it is said he is sure to die. But overcomes the adversity each time, the side characters are present only to praise the MC, it is a Harem but it... more>> doesn't even feels like it. Completely forsed romance, it is total sickening, seriously if I read this novel I will feel like I have done something wrong and feels regret. And will upset all day long.

Don't read it if you want read a story which doesn't give you any reactions. Only regret.. <<less

It seems like it will move slowly at first but really accelerates after about 40 chapters. At that point the MC goes from major event to major event. He's already a big deal by chapter 50 or 60. At this point he's near the same level as the top mages in his country. And this fact is public knowledge.

Unique plot, setting and execution.

Likeable characters, good fight scenes.

Are some dark parts to the story and conflict, but overall interesting.

As for the OP MC, it was attained mostly through his hard work.

Overall, an extremely satisfying and enjoyable novel, though if you like reading MCs that suffer through tragedy or are oppressed by antagonists severely at parts of the story, this book may not be for you.

Pretty solid, with some minor issues. I like it, so far. :) The GOOD:

A good story with likeable characters. It actually has an ongoing and developing plot, so I won't talk about it much.

The BAD:

Characters, though likeable are still somewhat flat.
Many broken powers/leveling, potential 'Jack of all trades' character- you know- boilerplate 'OP'
Faux harem is always just a bit tiresome
Spoiler

Another less-than needed use of the '7 deadly sins'

[collapse]
sci-fi encroachment just before ch 200- dunno how bad it'll get.

The Different:
You find out pretty quick, so I won't spoil (what enables the title character) - but not much otherwise. The world canon (powers & skills system) is slightly novel, but nothing special.

Why reading poor review people always amuse me, their argument is so s*upid I can counter it in one sentence. You all know that the one who write it is not your mother right? Many people arguing MC this MC that, story this story that, the other chara is blablablabla. But they just speak because I think they just cant accept the story not because it was bad, but because it doesnt go their way.

The story is kinda bland in the beginning and up until ch 60+ its become more... more>> and more intense, and too intense right now. The fighting is too much and the development is weird because the MC always find new enemy, like he is walking disaster. Even the author write it in the story, thats the only thing thats bad right now I think. MC itself is very greedy and want to become stronger, well who can blame him he just a magician (soldier) in the world where people at war, imagine the cold war and you are soldier but no gun, of course you want to become stronger and stronger and the world itself is very vast many extensive mystery and history unsolved, so MC greed can be justified. And many people asking why dont he use his power to ask question more meaningful, well because he doesnt have your imagination, he is not you, try use your puny brain to imagine if you become him, a magician with no knowledge about power, politics, world etc, just magic. And if he did ask that kind question to his grimore, and the answer is not what he want, what do you think? And the author doesnt need to f*cking write every time he ask the question man, its not a diary, for god sake.

The story itself is interesting, MC personality is good and smart, other side chara also very alive and smart in their own right, the only downside maybe is the MC growth is to fast, but if you think he got a legendary grimore (like a cheat skill) it can be justified. Till now I cannot say it perfect, but I cant find any flaw in all their personality or the story. All the bad review is always about their view, like they dont like sexy onee-san, or his friend (girl) who likes him, but till now they are NOT HIS HAREM FOR GODSAKE, maybe someday but no, not now and that is good, also what your problem man, you dont have a girl who likes you and you blame this story? Grow up, the MC is handsome, kind and strong, what other reason do girl need to like him you dumbass. Many people always say their opinion and views very very selfishly in their comment without giving objective score such a sad people.

Synopsis

Spoiler

MC is very diligent magician but no talent whatsoever, and become so sad and angry to his own talent until the legendary grimore appear because the grimore sense he have so many greed/glutton for knowledge. After that using the grimore he become more and more stronger and help so many people, become important figure and of course fight so many impossible monster and enemy and keep growing. Also the grimore is alive and have personality so he can think and sometimes give advice, but their relationship is like mutual symbiotic that help each other. And so their journey continue to eat more books? Dunno about the real intent of the MC, he just a very kind and want to help people but the situation always make him fight, which in most case because he is the one who make it happens, and many case because author logic meh (coincidence).

[collapse]

If I rate it maybe I gove 4-5 star, 5 for now cause no apparent mistake that can I correct until now. But the more and more ch it come up, the development will be more hard to write and more easy to become s*upid, so for now its good but if the author cant keep up his idea in this story it will become bad/downhill so fast. <<less

I'd rate it as 4.5, but I'll bump it up to 5~

A good story. Has some flaws, but is an enjoyable read.

MC powers up FAST. He's getting pretty OP in 'normal' standards, but not enough to really be top level yet. Everyone's screaming about how he'll be totally OP later though.

Romance... harem tag, eh? There hasn't been much serious romantic action yet; the MC seems to not focus on romance. The possible female leads have been introduced though. They're not annoying, but they seem to fall for the MC pretty... more>> quickly. It's still plausible, but kinda fast.

Recently, the MC has been getting so many good rewards... I can't believe how lucky??? blessed??? he is. It's almost unbelievable. It's fun, but still. Good stuff just seems to fall in the MC's lap.

Love MC's cheat. It's always entertaining to learn more about it and see new functions. Hints of mystery behind the background.

Interactions with characters are nice. It's so heartwarming to see MC with some characters. Oh, and the MC's summon is cute. I'm glad there hasn't been anything... inappropriate.

The art (not a lot, just a couple of character pictures so far) is also cute. <<less

So far it's a good read. It has many of the tags I enjoy in a story (ability steal, hidden abilities, determined protagonist, etc).

I am pleased with how the author is expanding this tale. Just when I was beginning to be concerned about power creep, the author introduced a mechanic that hinders it. My current concern is a lack of inter-personal character development for MC and his friend (s) as he keeps being flung from one area/mission to another, or we end up with: six months later...

Overall, would recommend.

The characters are too close to cardboard cutouts. Although the premise is great and the upgrades are exciting, the characters just kill the immersion for me. They make it impossible to immerse myself when I read. The novel itself is three stars, but the translator's quality and track record for finishing novels makes it four.

4/5 @ chapter43. Maybe 4.5/5, but it's a bit early for such a high rating.

A nice gary-stu setup, but with a reasonable and personable MC. He is willing to trust those that he should trust with his secret OP item, and make real friendships, unlike 90% of MC's on novelupdates. There is decent character development, and an enjoyable cast thus far. Besides the standard OP cheat item helping the MC to make a comeback, there aren't an overabundant amount of cliche tropes or cringy antagonist moments. Although it's a bit... more>> early, but there isn't any filler, and nothing forcing me to skim. <<less

A pretty good new novel RainbowTurtle has decided to pick up.

The story revolves around a young magician repeating his third year of magic school for the third time. He is the best student in terms of knowledge, but his magic control is really lackluster.

The translation is 4.5/5, with very few minor mistakes, and the story so far has been fresh and a notch above the rest. Also, the characters we have been introduced to thus far are nicely fleshed out.

All in all, the quality of this novel has been top... more>> notch, I am really enjoying it, and I sincerely hope it stays that way. <<less

I wish I have something like this too, but then again I'm not that clever like the MC is. A hand that can eat a book and you can get knowledge after it ate in an instant, I wish I really have that kind of hand LOL.

It's a light read novel and I finished it quite fast. I really wanted that author to stretch it out more but still gave a satisfying ending. I didn't think the a plot twist like that could happen but really it felt like it... more>> was already foreshadowed in the beginning I'm just dumb to notice it. Still a recommended book to read it you want something light in not that deep of a novel that you need to slowly read it to understand. <<less

I feel betrayed, the MC doesn't even eat books. He just gets a magic thing that eats them, and even that already seems to be just a thing at the beginning (it starts out eating more books, but then has already gone down in quantity twice). If he actually ate them then I'd be able to keep reading and ignore the flaws due to absurdity and uniqueness, but as it is...

This honestly feels like it was written by a teenager. I know it's tagged shounen, but I wasn't expecting it... more>> to be this bad. I was reading it and assuming that they're children, like mid teens at most from how they act (despite the professors, I assumed that was a translation thing)... but another review said he's almost 20 at this point? The professors all act like children too.

That could all be whatever, but the author constantly calls the MC super smart, and the thing that made me give up is when someone (with eyes that can see his essence and what not) says that he's "cold headed", not reckless, and hates acting without purpose; the author then agrees with that... THAT'S THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT HAS BEEN SHOWN! An example:
Spoiler

the first thing he does after suddenly gaining a ton of power? Blatantly show it off in front of everyone to get back at them for making fun of him.

[collapse]

It's one thing if he starts out young, naive, and hot-headed. It's another if the author actually considers that to be smart and "cold headed". There are multiple other similar examples so far, and I'm barely over 20 chapters... If you really like shounen stuff go for it, but this definitely isn't what I had hoped for. <<less

MC is not overpower even with his cheat, he had to use talent and effort to make up for it. I like his rationality and he's not hot headed. He know his limits and acts in a way that hero should behave. There's no hypocrisy about him. He's really selfless and has no ambition in terms of those fighting for the purpose fighting.

I like how he progress from order to order, step by step. Not just out of no where power up where there's no draw backs. The fights are... more>> also pretty good even when he gets out power most of the time he does fight back pretty well. However I just can't keep up with 100 hundreds names of these skills that the author uses, it is impossible to keep up. There was too many and made it very confusing. It was easy to keep up in the beginning than you just gives up near the end because there's point.

But he keeps getting lucky with these summoning of God to beat his opponents, even out of 7 swords he beat one by himself. He even need to summon a evil to beat the last one. I don't approve of that, he has a freaking collection of cheats that he didn't use properly half the time

The romance really did make this novel notch down a level, especially when MC is forced to have s** couple times. These girls are all pretty much useless apart from Becky. He doesn't even love that Silver hair thing sigh but he had to take responsibility, it left a bitter taste in my mouth. Hence where a star was deducted for the whole novel

Why didn't we get to go to other realms and go fight the *Real* 7 sins. We really let them go and didn't go after them, we were confined to the same realm the whole novel. I want to see god, demons and more myths!. The potential of this novel was cut alot because of this. His journey could've been more epic before that abrupt end cramping everything together and giving one simple conclusion. Power of love and friendship and being a Hero yay....

Timeline is wrong, when he is brother is 15, they said he was still in his mid 20s? Last I check he was 19 when he was 3 so he should be in his 30s. Then they corrected it later heh.

The thing I love about the novel is the relationship with Gluttony, the sins are always portrayed as evil. I always want to see one of them get along with character when others sins are evil. This just satisfied me so much to see Gluttony the way it is. I wish he could said the F word in the end (you know what I mean)

My conclusion is Gluttony is best boy. This novel is ok for Korean novel of this genre. There's better one out there but 400 chapters is worth reading. <<less

The story is interesting and the pacing is fine. Its sometimes too sudden or too slow, but it doesn't ruin the novel much if your not too impatient. Its definitely not a masterpiece, though it could be. I see lots of potential and improvements that could be done. Though right now as of ch 226, its just above average compared to other novels, nothing too amazing.

(dont get too swayed by my review, many of my points are provided explanations for, its just my peeves)

I would normally give it... more>> 5 stars cuz anything that's at least not garbage is good enough for me. But something in the fight sequences just irks me to no end. I understand the MC is still young compared to most of his opponents (they are usually experienced veterans, or unimaginably powerful monsters). In fact this is emphasized many times, the author might be aware that the reader could get annoyed. (The MC has cheat yet is always forced to fight stronger opponents). Honestly with all the abilities and cheats the MC gains overtime, I though he could at least stop worrying too much about his life during fights. But I was wrong, the stronger the MC gets the stronger the enemies that show up, which is normally fine but the author always makes it seem that the enemy is some freakish monster that can't be explained even though the MC can do the SAME!! It might just be that the power levels are skewed but the descriptions of the MC hair standing up because the enemy is strong is used so many times that it starts to get annoying. It makes the MC look so weak and the enemy so f*cking strong. And the enemy isnt actually much in the end!! The MC has so much in his arsenal, yet he barely makes use of any of his abilities. There is the excuse that he needs to train his abilities before he can properly or thoroughly use them (ex. Strengthening his mental power for his umbra ability). But goddamn the author reaallly hates giving the MC time to do any training. I think the author acknowledges this because it is mentioned sometimes that the MC is living the life of a hero (too exciting). But it is sooo much more efficient if the MC just stays put and trains or buys more original books or something. Because he literally has a cheat, which is suppose to make things easier for the MC but the author insist on throwing the MC into Hell.

Overall, I think you should read this novel because I think its worth reading otherwise I would've stopped at chapter 15 or smth. Though I expressed dissatisfaction, the novel is actually pretty good, I'm just too lazy to right the pros and just focused on the cons. So you go explore the pros yourself and read the novel. <<less
