Seriously??? Im asking the author what thr fckkk are you doing???

Chapter 1 - 400 is freaking good, the story is pretty deep its not your typical vrmmorpg things. And the action and how lucky MC is pretty good too, well maybe too much plot amror for the MC.

BUUTTTT!!!!

After reaching chapter 400 this novel become tr*shH fcckking tr*shhh. First the author is really racist like out of nowhere the MC bullying people that not Chinese. Its ok if there's a reason Buttt there not!! He just come to others people nation... more>> and booom fcking Japanese I will kill you all because no reason!!! Lol. I think this will just some chapters like this but its the whole arc!!! Fcking authors make this novel from dime to tr*sh.

So who want to read this... Just read up to chapter 400. Don't read beyond that you will be disappointed. <<less

A good novel,

There is a sucubuss girl in this novel, everyone will like her character in the end #bestGirl. (In [mar gravity] author's atg novel, there is a b*tch who follows the same trend, but I hate that b*tch <XQ>)

I only hate his annoying father and his half-brother. And also hate the part where some girls are controlled by some abilities.

Its a good novel. As usual fanservice at best.

Everything before the protagonist goes to the Japanese server is definitely a 4-5 star quality read.

Everything after the protagonist goes to the Japanese server is definitely a one- star quality read.

Having read ATG, which this author is currently famous for and had relatively decent characters, I was thoroughly disappointed with how this story turned out. The racism and sexism practically make your head spin. I almost feel like the author was forced to write the story in that way because the MCs behavior completely changes, as if he's a wholly... more>> different character, after returning from the Japanese server.

Everything before the Japanese server arc is a worthwhile read. Drop it after you get to that point is my advice on this matter. <<less

It's good to pass time, a little enjoyable. I have to admit that it gets worse (a little annoying, boring) the moment it becomes more evident that everything will become crazy/surpass the "human" level. In truth, you know everything that will happen if you read enough before, I knew 95% of the plot (particularly the ending, that I knew everything, lol) in the first 25 chapters.

But well, it's still a journey, and after walking with this friend for some time it's impossible to not feel something in the departure. It... more>> was a good read. Bye, friend. <<less

Writing/TL Quality - Readable - While it is a VR novel a lot of it reads like a status screen. It is the equivalent of "A attacks B. B dodges A. A crits on B." No grammar mistakes but sentence structure is simple. The casual elegance seen in high quality novels is absent, but if you are reading this chances are you aren't looking for that. The classic inflation of chapter size with unnecessary descriptions aka "word vomit" is present but if you are an avid reader of... more>> Chinese novels you are probably used to this. There is also a significant amount of description bloating whenever a female character is shown. NOT when she is just introduced but every time she appears in a chapter. If there are a few paragraphs about the world toppling beauty introduced in chapter 4, even in chapter 400 there are at least 4 sentences on her perfect jade skin, whenever she is mentioned. Most avid readers here can skim those parts to some extent but I;m mentioning it for those who cant stand that type of thing.

Relationships - Below Average - Form instantly for the most part, or are explained in flashbacks. Are mostly quite shallow. It skips most of the developmental stage of relationships and more towards. It mostly tries to shows the cute moments of a long term relationship. Most of the relationships are built on "damsel in distress" trope, where in the girls arc, she is rescued by the MC, and her feelings (which developed due to the MC being super powerful) heavily intensify to devoted mindless love towards the MC.

Characterization - Average - The MC was pretty consistent for the most part. Its a Strong to Stronger novel where the MC is basically perfect at the start and it grows. There is not much room for character development. Does not portray an OP character nearly as well as seen in Overlord or Emperor's Domination. A few of the side characters where developed semi-decently, but a majority of them just blended in. Something that irritated a significant amount of people where the blatant racism seen. This lasts for a little over a hundred chapters, roughly 120 thousand words. This is one of the largest deal breakers and causes for people dropping this novel. If this is a dealbreaker for you don't waste your time.

World Building - This was actually interesting. The world was diverse and I at least enjoyed it initially, though it is rushed towards the end. The balance of players is never there and it is always the MC against the world kind of thing. It would be nice to have a few exceptional players on the MC's level to provide a challenge.

Story- Average - Has a very good start, but its quality reduces as it goes on and the ending feels very rushed. Something great to pass time or binge but not something that will blow you away.

While my review seems overly critical, it is by no means terrible and to it is something that its target audiance will surely enjoy.

A solid 3/5 <<less

I have read this story one and a half times, initially dropping due to a small slowdown in pace + getting frustrated with MTL.

I re-read the story beginning to end when the full translation was completed and really enjoyed the story. Unlike what most people have said in their reviews that sh*t goes haywire or random, they either failed to read thoroughly or forgot about earlier parts of the story due to time passing. Every transition in the story is given foreshadowing (typically) hundreds of chapters in advance.

I enjoy the... more>> transitions between female leads as there are a few with lots of side characters to expand the harem. I disagree on giving a novel bad reviews based on preferences, don't read a novel with the harem tag if you don't like harems and racism is racism and very cultural so I can easily disregard it as I just view it as color in the story.

Overall the story had good ups and downs and the ending was fulfilling based on the emotional attachment to the characters. <<less

Man, I'm disappointed. I really, REALLY liked this story at the beginning. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of VRMMO or whatever genres. The thousands of stats and skills begin to make my eyes glaze over after a while, and half the time I even skip them all together (you'd think that would make a difference, but it really doesn't.) However, what I liked about this novel was the relationship between the MC and his little sister. I don't mean the s*xual part of it. I mean the... more>> devotion he had towards her, and how no one else could even enter his eyes. I'm going to write in spoilers from now on as I'll be spoiling quite a few things.

Spoiler

The problem is, things go absolutely haywire in this story. I STILL thought it was cool, even enjoying it more, when I realized the MC was more than just a good gamer, but also incredible in real life. I didn't mean the whole "being experimented on and being a killer" thing because it was still in a sense believable. However, things took a ridiculous turn after, and let me say this, SPOILER INCOMING SPOILER INCOMING SPOILER INCOMING....................... after the sister dies. Again, I didn't dislike the story because she died, but because of what happened after. The MC goes from someone who loved only his sister (I should mention they're not related by blood, he's adopted), to having s*x with almost EVERY good looking girl he knew. He went from a single minded devotion to her, to RAPING godesses in the game. Granted, you can argue he has to do all this (needed their virg*n blood) because he was told this is the only way to bring back his sister, but sleeping with every other good looking woman? Ridiculous. The sister, before dying, was trying to push other girls on him so he would be happy, but SO WHAT? Have some respect!! He went from a dedicated MC, one whom I very much admired, to another disgusting and generic harem king. At the end of the story, HE HAD NINE-TEEN WIVES, some of them who looked like they were TWELVE YEARS OLD!!

Besides that, the story spun out of control as well in a horrible way. It went from playing a game while having enemies in the real world, to finding out the game is NOT a game, but another world, to f***ing fighting gods in outer space and on different planets, slinging SUNS AND STARS at one another.... What in the flying f*** is going on!?!? This is what happens when an author has a good idea for a story, but doesn't have the capability or the talent to finish it properly. It slowly, or in this case pretty quickly, devolves into more generic wuxia/cultivating/God fighting garbage. I was so utterly disappointed with this due to what it was like at the beginning. I honestly wish the novel stopped when the sister died, and the MC kills the (at the time) main bad guy, dying himself, and his friends win the bet two years later and think fondly of him. While it would have been much shorter, it would also have been so much less ridiculous.

The last part of this novel that disgusted me was, I dunno if I should call it this, but.. plot armor, maybe? Every friggen item he randomly finds happens to be exactly what he needs like two to ten chapters later. EVERY SINGLE TIME. The author tries to pawn it off by saying one of his pets has extremely strong luck, but.. no, c'mon. Just no. Also, it's one of those novels where "explanations" from certain characters forces everything to snap into place. "Oh, how did your sister come back to life? I traded my life for hers. Oh, how is it I'm still alive? Because it turns out your sister and I both share half of a soul. I knew this the whole time but didn't say anything. Oh, how is it all your friends survived when they should be dead? When no one was looking, I used this item to move them to another planet." It's just more and more BS explanations like this, trying to explain glaring plot holes that just made me shiver.

[collapse]

If you didn't read the spoiler part, let me just say that the first part of the novel is pretty good, but after that, it goes into absolutely crazy-ville, the MC COMPLETELY changes his character and becomes a generic harem king, and plot holes are "explained" away whenever it suits the author. I cannot recommend this novel to anyone. <<less

TL:DR - Generic, yet entertaining Adventure Story (Wuxia) full of flat and forgettable characters. (3/5 stars: ***)

Plot:

Equipped with invulnerable plot armor and guided by deus ex machina, the protagonist (MC) embarks on a generic, yet entertaining journey to save his romantic interest. Gods, Demons, Treasure - and a whole lot of MMORPG stat-talk! Though slightly repetitive in form, the author has created a compelling adventure spanning both virtual and non-virtual worlds.

... more>> Characters:

To set immediate expectations - Before even entering the virtual world, the MC is literally described as a ninja-assassin warrior. Surrounded by a flat and forgettable harem, the author routinely pushes the MC into cringe-worthy situations where he can demonstrate a stereotypical role of antiquated masculinity.

In short, Warning To Reader: explicit s*x scenes, arranged marriages, traditional gender roles, blatant racism, and casual pedophilia all pervade the novel and are highlighted by the author as desirable traits of this unfortunate MC.

If these traits don't make you swoon like one of the harem-girls in this novel, skipping 99% of all character interactions will allow the reader to fully enjoy the adventure plot. <<less

Like most of the other reviewers that have bothered reading into the later chapters, I have very few positive things to say about the novel. The first couple arcs were a fun read, but by the time you get into the later chapters, the plot rapidly degenerates into brainless power creeping. A protagonist getting stronger is a very natural part of a story, but the way it is used here effectively neuters any sense of suspense or danger. If you are interested in the story regardless of the suitably poor... more>> rating this novel has, I'd recommend reading no more than the first two or three volumes. That aside, if you are bothered by racism or sexism, then stay away from this novel.

Spoiler

Getting into spoilers here, the problems with the story really begin with volume five, where the "protagonist" travels to japan and, for lack of a better way of putting it, shits on everyone in the region. The volume is a blatant piece of racism. Along side this, the protagonist consistently sexually harasses females during the course of the story, ultimately culminating in full on r*pe in Volume 8. If that wasn't bad enough, there's a scene in the final volume where he's fighting the final villain, and attacks her by jamming three of his fingers into her v*gina. I was stunned with how far the author took his treatment of females. They are literally nothing other than s*xual objects in this story. Putting aside everything else, such as plot armor or power creep, the author simply crosses the line too many times. By the end of the story, all semblance of character building and development have all been shoved aside in favor of drowning the protagonist in his flock of female followers and showing off how incredibly overpowered he is.

As what most of those 3 and below reviewers said.. It started out great but once it reaches the japanese arc, it plummeted down..... more>>
Spoiler

the author showed his personal hatred and fear of the japanese and his dirty thoughts about women.. Might makes right?! If nobody can stop him, massacre or harrassment/r*pe (?) is permissible for him. I think I read one review said that since it was done on VR since it is not really racism.. IMO it is! The japanese' behavior here were as expected but the MC really behaved like a villain

Its terribly I had to stop I just couldn't go on, the plot and setting are good but author ruined the it

Pros

  • The back story is good I like it adds mystery to the novel
  • Comedy
That's it that's all the goods things I can find about this novel

Cons

  • Harem (spoiler) the only reason this became a harem was just because his sister told him not to reject other woman who like him and this messes up everything, I cannot see how this story continues with a harem
  • Spoiler

people who are said to be dead aren't, first it was his instructor (who has no impact whatsoever on the story) then it was his childhood friend (who they also brought back for the sake of a bigger harem) and its his sister who died but wait she can be revived

    [collapse]
  • To much foreshadowing, I feel the foreshadows are pointless because the foreshadows are going this way and the MC and the side characters are going another, making the foreshadows useless
  • Characters are just 2d including the MC, characters are just thrown and forgotten
I only read this when I'm bored but after chapter 400+ I couldn't

Writing: 8/10

Story/plot: 7/10 (Starting at 9/10 till 300+, but relatively drop at 400 +)

Entertainment value: 7/10 (Significantly more enjoyable if you familiar with MMORPG terms)

Opinion (No Spoiler) : One of the best potential for the storyline/plot for vmmorpg genre (Like King's avatar), but the author quickly destroy the MC's character at 400+ chapter, making the story less enjoyable because of forced nationalistic and very open anti-Japanese behavior. From the writings, it is clear that the author is one of the anti-Japanese sympathizer (Not surprising since the Nanking massacre... more>> and with the help of the political party, 90%+ population in China hate them. Not that I blame them, however, it is quite inappropriate for international standards). In other words, the author lost his control to maintain his emotion and express his disgust in a very open manner, literally destroying the MC's 400 chapter worth image and character for the sake of the author's expression. Or perhaps, it is the Chinese government policy to increase the value of novel that contain anti-Japanese ? Dunno.

Though, keep in mind that it's not that the hate or anti-Japanese is the main problem of this novel, but the sudden heaven-defying change of character that has no reason whatsoever is.

Conclusion to reading or not reading: Even though the author completely destroy the MC's image and character at the later chapter, the introduction and the next 300 chapter are one of the best plot in VRMMORPG genre. It is highly suggested to try read it till the MC character change. <<less

Update with spoilers

As of the near the ending plotline... I feel obligated to fix my review.

Spoiler

The stuff near the ending is absolute garbage. A cancer inducing pile of sh*t that cant be considered a plot. The amount of ret*rdness in the MC brain due to revelation that he was betrayed BY AN UNKNOWN bit*h HE NEVER COMPLETELY EVEN KNEW, is making me rage hard.

The author has gone completely mental, obviously because he lost all ideas for the novel so he is ofcourse... RUSHING the ending. Which is the standard of the garbage writing in any novel.

A massive influx of plot holes "filled in" in a span of 10 chapters that are so unnecessary you might have been better without them.

And again, the MC reaction to all of it is unreasonable disbelief.. Even though a few dozen chapters before that HE UNLOCKED SUPER INTELLIGENCE ABILITIES MAKING HIM THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE SHITTY WORLD.. no joke, that happened. Yet that intelligence completely fails in this "development" where he just cries HOW, WHY, WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?! YOU ARE LYING!! OIEUajhygoisrynbr0oirsihYGBROGHHN

And other aneurysm inducing comments he makes in the make shift explanation.

[collapse]

AVOID IT.

4 stars is enough for this novel.

There are Many interesting parts, but I will tell you the annoying crap.

The skills info dump is basically.. I'd rather get cancer than read that crap. There are instances of 2 chapters with nothing but information on new skills. And that info is repeated often when the skill is used. Just.. KILL ME.

The obligatory "let's kill and insult and ruin the japanese" section. Which lasted for way too long.

And the obvious MC di''<@/&~ing in some sections. bleh.

So far, that is all the crap that irks me.

Also, a friendly warning. All 5 star reviews between 20th of December 2017 till 10th of January 2018 should not be trusted. Reason being the "50USD patreon reward for those who rate it 5 stars" contest. Yup. <<less

It is worth noting that this review was made on december 28th, 2017 when the translator held a draw for free sub to the novel, requirement for entering being the creation of a 5 star review on this site. To put it bluntly, the intention to skew the sites rating of the novel for marketing reasons is clear. Any review made on or shortly after the 28th that gives 5 stars was made in the hopes of being rewarded and therefore cannot be trusted. I have come back to alter my review to give Shura's Wrath the accurate rating it truly deserves. This being said, the following review should accurately cover the content.

Shura's Wrath is a great VR-MMO-RPG/Fantasy/Sci-fi novel that has it's own unique flavor that differentiates it from the... more>> rest of the pack. Now I am not going to tell you all that Shura's Wrath is the best novel out there, and to put it frankly whether or not you like something is extremely subjective and up to personal taste. My hope is that by the end of reading this review you will be able determine, or at least have a general idea as to whether or not it is a novel you will enjoy. Now, without further ado lets get to the content up for review.

TAGS are an easy way to describe aspects of content that you might recognize from other creative works, there is a massive wealth of things to spend your time on out there so naturally they cannot all be completely original. With that being said, if you are okay with or like these tags then it is extremely likely you will enjoy Shura's Wrath.

OP MC- Main character is extremely powerful both in-game and out of it, getting more powerful as time passes.

s*xual Content- Women are described as beauties constantly throughout the novel, s*x occurrence rate is fairly low given the novels length and only a few of the scenes feel forced, s*x scene detail varies from low to fairly high.

Fantasy/Sci Fi- The game has a fantasy setting, small Sci-fi elements can be seen throughout the novel. Harem- MC starts off with one girl and is on the true harem route, multiple girls with a implied harem ending.

Romance/Drama- Each of the girls have their own moments, drama is very low but present. Tragedy- There are some large tragedy elements to the novel, I expect a happy ending but time will tell. Racism- Very few people will like this, there is a brief arc (aprox 30 chapters) where the MC goes to the Japanese server and he becomes a real douche. So long as you can look past this, it goes back to normal afterwards.

Setting- 8/10- The world is set in the later half of the 21st century, much like it is today. The game world is a medieval magic world setting. Detail and world building is moderate to high, it is not perfect but it is fairly good.

Plot- 7/10- The story starts off strong, but gets a little bit repetitive at times. Overall there is steady progress towards the MC's eventual goals and not too much dragging, the story can be both enthralling and a bit boring.

Characters- 6/10- Most characters have their own unique personality traits that set them apart from each other, females tend to all be "beauties" but that is not too much of a surprise for a harem. While characters are unique, most are still fairly two dimensional.

Details- 9/10- Being a "game" type novel, details such as stats, effects and equipment are a moderately important part of the novel. Details are enough to give readers the ability to follow along with what is happening and keep track of the characters growth, but not so much as to overwhelm other story elements or cause boredom.

Shura's Wrath is similar to other VR-MMO-RPG novels, such as Legendary Moonlight Sculptor, Zhan Long, The King's Avatar but with its own unique flavor. If you liked those novels and/or this review then give Shura's Wrath a read, you will not regret it! <<less

So, how to put it.

Quality of writing as expected of Mars Gravity, but... At times, I honestly have no idea where the author is going with this. MC, who is supposed to be a badass cold guy, often jumps straight into hell 'cause I wouldn't be me if I didn't', and then cries for 2 chapters like an imbecile cause he lost someone important due to his s*upid choices. And that happens every 50 chapters or so.

That's the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. The translation is mostly... more>> good, with occasional mistakes. <<less

The truth is when you found certain author name, you can't help but feeling afraid reading their work. I'm thoroughly disgusted by ATG's harem. But we'll see about this. I'll update more after reading more chapter.

Update: reading until chapter 100+
I like the beginning of the series,
cons: so many beautiful woman, you can choose between loli, big breasted mature sultry echanting woman, pure well developed breast snow white jade woman, etc. The author is too long winded describing each of this qualities, and how MC is ready to... more>> dip his claw, but because of his superior spirit he still can endure it. <<less

This story has been kinda up and down for me. The story itself is rather interesting and the translator does a great job. The only thing that really bugs me is how ridiculous the game is. I originally thought that the game should not even be part of the story (as in he is born/reincarnated/falls into the world where the game is), had the author not recently expanded on the real world quite a lot. Since more details have been given about our mysterious MC as of Chaper 215, a... more>> lot of his backstory and character arc wouldn't work. I really don't know how else to deal with the issue other than just doing my best not to pay attention to the small details. Overall I recommend the story. If you've read LMS and Ark, you'll likely enjoy this. <<less

*at time of review 71 chapters in, will possibly continue reading but not with the same view as before *

At first I felt like it was a really good and interesting read.... well... at first I did... until it switched to the typical route of an op protagonist.

Like, not much against the op ness itself, but the way, like

Spoiler

that one time against that frog boss early in the series, the whole fight was pretty good, until the author decided to take a route he totally didnt need to and the frog didnt die with that poison but protagonist some how has to depend on his godly luck, just that specific part about him putting it all on a random chance just pisses me off to no extent, the author didnt need to do that either, it could just have been the frog dies from poison, or even that frog has 1 hp left and then the protagonist rushes him to kill that 1 hp left, that much is FINE

[collapse]

tldr: op skills, acceptable *and liked too*, op luck and the support of RNGesus * totally ruins story *

Another thing is him showing off * which in itself is fine * but the fact that he knows that he should be laying low because of the possibility of moon gods whatever searching for him *not a spoiler, read the synopsis* even tough they might not care I dont get it, with a personality like his, he should instead take the no-risk route.

Spoiler

And that part about him killing that wolf (?) whatever boss in front of all those people and that 7th ranker of heavenly ranks ? dont even mention it, something totally unnecessary.

[collapse]

tldr: protagonist personality inconsistent at times. should be taking no-risk route but instead takes most show off route ever.

Side rant : I just dont get that chinese *and japanese too* authors are just fascinated with “cute” op pets. like, just why?

As much as it must seem like I hate this series, I don’t, being impartial about it I can just say that, initially what I hoped from it * which would have given this 5 of 5 stars * was instead shattered midway through and since it takes the typical route just like TDG or ATG its a more deserving of 4 stars.

Also, compare it to SAO, it is, very. similar.* talking about the anime, didnt read the LNs*

TLDR : fine read, but typical as compared to atg or tdg, not anything groundbreaking, 4 of 5 stars. <<less

A pretty good vrmmorpg novel. It does have it's flaws like most novels of this genre but I would consider it pretty good.

Rarely do I write reviews, but here we go....

So, I liked the beginning, interesting dynamic with it being futuristic Earth, great world building (things like Heaven and Hell, Isrock Disease etc), and very interesting character dynamics. Even into the middle of the series, I would have loved to give the series a 5 star review. However as it got towards the end, by about chapter 670-ish, it felt like the writer was either running out of ideas and wanted to finish it quickly or wanted to rush it to begin... more>> a new project at that time, anyway, I hated the time skip for the simple reason of it was for a few chapters, I feel like there could have been more done for each time skip... like with Li Xiao Xue and her supposed pregnancy, some more character development between MC and female leads, then do the second time skip for the last chapter, and honestly, the last chapter itself just pissed me off. from chapters 1-550ish is 5 stars, from 550ish to 670ish is 3.5 stars, then from there until the end is a 2-3 stars solely cause of the emotional rollercoaster. if it wasn't for that, solely due to the last chapter, the ending itself deserves a 1 star. <<less
