She’s somehow ended up transmigrating into the book as the supporting female lead, who was beaten to death! Deeply in love with the male lead, she’s fated to be beaten to a bloody pulp before even holding hands with him?!

First things first, she needs to survive and latch onto the big thigh of a patron. But the supporting male lead is a true gentleman and feels nothing for her stunning, alluring body. That’s alright! She’ll latch onto the old madame or the male lead then!

But why does the supporting male lead look at her with increasingly odd eyes? And what of that Wulin Alliance Head with the personality disorder? You’re just a random bystander, what are you getting involved for??

Finally, the male lead could bear it no longer and dragged her back to the Prince Li Manor…

Don't be deceived, this is actually extremely long. Think 6, full-length novels, long. After the first 10 free chapters, you'll have to buy the rest off of Amazon (6 novels, about $3 each, But! The series is complete and the translation is amazing, with many footnotes). The main characters do not have s*x until: ... more>>
Spoiler

book 3. The male lead is quite forceful after that, and the female lead is basically subjected to spousal r*pe. I really don't understand the Chinese fetish for perpetually unwilling women.

[collapse]

The very beginning shows one of the best and most hilarious transmigration stories ever. The MC does not give a sh**; she nopes right out of participating after seeing a maid being beaten to death in front of her the day she wakes up in the body of a brand new concubine in a crappy novel. As a result, she decides to say screw this and indulges in her eccentric hobbies, which make her come across as literally insane. She is delightful and bizarre. She has zero qualms trying to throw the OG female lead to the brutal male lead as a distraction, going so far as to lie to the girl about his good qualities so she won't run off and will marry him faster, and tries to seduce the second male lead for herself.

Unfortunately, this refreshing eccentricity quickly wears off after the first book. As she grows to be the favorite and acclimatizes to her new reality, she becomes more and more like a standard, stock Good Chinese Wife character, who always has the calm, clever idea to help the household, is amazing at cooking, everyone adores her but the concubines, and she resolves problems with a witty tongue and lives as a breathing stereotype. She is still a likable and pragmatic, well-written character, but she's not as fun and unique as she was at the start. The plot also spirals into weirdness, becoming more and more ridiculous as it goes.
Spoiler

By the end, even the Emperor has fallen for our female lead.

[collapse]

Annoyingly, the female lead and male lead seem to be speaking completely different languages, as each misunderstands the other so thoroughly, they may as well be in separate stories. She'll do something for a practical reason (like, pick something up, for example, and she's cold), and his inner monologue will spin out some bizarre, fantasy interpretation of why she's doing that ("oh, she's bending over to seduce me! This tender, frightened kitten is showing her slender waist, even as she trembles!" <--this is not a quote, but a generalization of how it seems to go.) The rate she endures injury in order to give the male lead opportunity to worry will also annoy you. It's like she has glass bones or something.

You'll go back and forth on the fate of the OG Female Lead. On the one hand, it is hilarious to see her try to do female lead stuff without her halo, and suffer the natural consequences of being an idiot. On the other, you'll probably feel like the level of the bad things which happen to her is undeserved.
Spoiler

She slowly transitions into the villainess role, which is interesting to watch. But, it's because she is mol*sted by several secondary male characters, and one eventually r*pes her violently. Unable to marry her rapist and save some reputation, she spirals in to a dark place and tries to use s*x as a weapon to control the secondary male leads.

[collapse]

Verdict: Definitely give this one a try, but stopping with the first book is highly recommended. <<less

Hello, hey, and I'm gonna be honest. When I first read this, I liked it mainly because of the female lead. She was weak and everything, so she used brains over brawn. But failed. Idk, she lost the brains after reading far enough.

I completed the story because I didn't understand what was going on (all the magic things). When it got to "that part" (sx thing), I felt uncomfortable, I ignored it since, I don't understand why I felt that way.

I'm actually rating after reading masterpieces like 8tt, ascending do... more>> not disturb, and rebirth: malicious (I forgot the rest but this is my fave).

And I realized after thinking abt it, how bland the characters are in this story and how it progressed. They were written to be relatable but failed miserably by suddenly adding boosts on the female lead.

This comment is my opinion, I'm not stopping you because I already completed this. Why should I stop others. This can considered a warning in a way, like beware of what you will encounter.

Spoiler

The thing the weirded me the most was when FL was tortured by enemy with a whip that can scr*pe off your SKIN. Ik there's adrenaline and everything but I didn't read any indication of pain the FL felt. And she was able to escape from her prison, completely undetected by master martial artists, an injured girl without any martial art. She only got caught when she jumped to save the baby AND THAT SCENE WAS WEIRD TOO. I'll stop that point there, and move to the next. The s*x part, omg. I felt so uncomfortable reading that part. I didn't understand why I was like that so I let it slide. But the thing is, FL became pregnant. And while pregnant, the other dude, the ml, still did her. It would've been totally fine if like, the FL felt nice and was very healthy. But, it hurt, and the wife didn't like it. I'm surprised she didn't have miscarriage.

And lastly, the bombs. Bro, she learned to make a bomb. A person that doesn't have any experience in making those made a bomb perfectly. In one try. I'm not gonna say more abt that lmao but imagine drawing. I saw someone draw this, can I do it perfectly? Only a very perfect person from stories can do that.

[collapse]

I rated this 2 stars because of the translations and the potential. And also the earlier parts of the story. <<less

I enjoyed reading this novel. It is not the typical doctor/assassin transmigration story. The FL is just our normal modern people. But after the FL and ML get together, like a lot of the reviewers mentioned, r*pe. I was kinda put off because of it but I kept going because apart from that, it was still interesting. Until the FL started to become super knowledgable through her cactus.._.

The story is entertaining but! There are plot holes and deus machina everywhere. It's not a bad read, as I said it's entertaining because you never know what can happen next. But like in may other Chinese stories with a female transmigrator/reincarnator, you'll eventually grow bored of the brainless antagonists.

On the good side, the MC's personality was great and kept me going till the end.

Ok, here's the thing, in this review, I won't be talking about why, what, and how this novel works. I'll leave that to the other reviewers since they already stated the why, what and how of this novel.

I'm just going to leave some warnings. This is full of spoilers, if you don't want to be spoiled then back away slowly. I will place the major spoilers in a spoiler tag though.

Spoiler
    1. If you can't handle ANCIENT Chinese customs, then don't read an Ancient Chinese-based novel. This novel will contain a domineering-in-a-way ML that is accustomed to the Ancient Chinese way of life. Basically, in the beginning of their 'sexual' relationship, the ML (still a virg*n) tasted his first woman, and only woman, the MC.
In Ancient Chinese, the Husband is the Master and the Concubine is the s*ave. That's just the way of life back then, that's why the MC is submissive to the ML. Contrary to other novels with overly powered Mary Sue MCs, the MC in this novel doesn't challenge this way of life. The MC is the one who conformed to this way of life herself.

No, this novel is not angsty when it comes to this aspect. It's actually handled humorously most of the time. Another thing, the MC wants the ML too, meaning, she wanted to cling on the golden thigh

because the ML is her protector, her golden finger, so to speak.

So, to those ignorant readers that thinks that the MC is always forced into having s*x with the obsessed ML... have you read the novel? Like, really read the novel? Because I can't believe you guys chose to ignore these facts that the MC said herself. The MC is not some holy maiden, the MC actually has some spunk to steal the ML away from the Original Female Lead. Unintentional at first, but it went to purposefully intentional as the novel went along. At one point, the MC even mentioned in passing (internal monologue) that she used s*x so that the ML will not 'stray' or go to the Female Lead. What the MC didn't know back then was that the ML will never stray, the ML was too entirely obsessed with the MC, lol!

      Spoiler

Don't worry, he only had one woman in his life, the MC. Even when he became Emperor, he only had the MC. He literally threatened everyone: anyone who sends in concubines in the palace will be met with death.

      [collapse]
    2. As with many other novels, this novel has it's own gray parts. The villains may have had what's coming to them, but yes, the morality of their 'crimes' are actually understandable, for the most part.
Like with the Original Female Lead, she's a dumbass bit*h with all the crazy things that she did. However, again, some ignorant readers who repeatedly chose to ignore ANCIENT Chinese customs kept on comparing the treatment of women from that time to Modern times. Actually, they didn't even compare, they just kept on going on and on and on about how 'unfair' the situation is back then. Dude, this is an Ancient Chinese-based novel, what the hell did you expect?

If you did compare them, then yes, it's unfair to the women (Female Lead, Female Villain #1, Female Villain #2, etc.) because - hey - those men accusing these women to have slept around is a womanizer themselves, the hypocrisy is high, right? Well, that's just the custom back then. If you're a lady, especially a noble lady, then don't even think about sleeping left and right, high and above...

      Spoiler

Unlike what the Female Lead did. Also the other Female Villain.

      [collapse]
    3. Don't expect an all-out Mary Sue MC, because you won't get one. What made this novel refreshing is that the MC is not an Assassin, Genius, Scientist, or Whatever. To those who based the MC for being 's*upid' and not deserving to be called a Modern Woman, let me ask you... are you an Assassin, Genius, Scientist, or Whatever?
No? Then you don't deserve to be called a Modern Person.

See the hypocrisy in your statements now?

      However...

      Spoiler

There are some parts that the MC acted Mary Sue-ish, like near the end with the war and all. Also, some male supporting characters liked the MC romantically, but she stayed loyal to the ML.

      [collapse]

Well, that's it for now. I basically wrote this review because the novel was being bashed by ignorant readers who chose to ignore the Ancient Chinese customs. It's annoying, and distracting, to often read comments about these aspects when this is actually a true custom.

[collapse]
If you don't like these customs, then don't read period novels.

So much went on. In the beginning, it was cute and there were misunderstandings galore, but at one point, too many crazy things started to happen that it was almost too much for a story that had a slow paced beginning. All in all, it was a fun read. I enjoyed reading the comments.

ALSO, THE ML DID NOT r*pe THE MC. I don't know what idiot started this, but if they read correctly, they would know that MC allowed it to happen and was in pain and didn't enjoy it... more>> BECAUSE THE ML SUCKS IN BED. The dumbass has no skill whatsoever, and it makes sense since this guy is a virg*n and never associated with girls of any kind before. I doubt the guy m*sturbated much, he was practically a monk before meeting MC. So yeah. There's r*pe, but not between ML and MC. <<less

This novel is, as they say, clichê in some sense. With so many stories around, which plot wasn't used, right? So it's up to the author how to make of the clichê and make the story interesting! And that is the kind of novel this is! Sure, this isn't original. People have thought about mixing and matching usual plotlines but for me, DCF has kept me entertained all through out!

It made me annoyed, angry, eat diabetes-inducing-fluffines, swallow envy-inducing-pheromone-level, and of course, laugh!

It's a refreshing change on transmigrated females. The FMC... more>> isn't cold blooded. She's not a genius, an assasin, well, the usual trope. She's all in all, a good person which to me is more relatable than some assassin from God knows where! I can't even begin to think why that is so. I mean really, authors? It makes me question if assassins trained to be transmigrated or something. And I hated the usual aloofness, coldness, and such. Though I understand but still. But anyway, going back, this FMC is up to my taste!

As for the Male MC, well, hmn... he's overbearing but he's learning to control himself for her. The secondary MCs are also very much appreciated since they also grow.

But most of all,

this is a happy ending! Yey!

SO.... it's a nice, simple, feel-good read....

if you're a fan of japanese novels where the protagonist is a modern girl who wakes up as the villainess in an otome game and tries to skip her bad ending and survive for a period of time (she thinks she can go back to where she came from) while making a harem without realizing it.... then you will absolutely love this.

the female lead is kind of silly and very naive...

the male lead is too self-conscious and thinks that everything the FL does is... more>> for him...... it feels like he's falling in love with his own fantasy of her..... not the real her.

the supporting male lead is the same as the ML..... too presumptious.

but overall...... liked it. <<less

This is one of the best transmigration novel currently being translated. If you are sick of 1 dimensional characters, dubious plot and plot armors, and generally cliché revenge plots this is for you. The heroine is not your typicall "strong", "cold", "ruthless" transmigator that adapts to everything like a fish to water. Instead, Bai Xiang Xiu is a normal person who struggles to adjust to the new world while looking for someone's "tights" to stick in order to survive. I don't know about the villains, but the side characters currently... more>> presented have their own quirks and the world building is extremely realistic. BXX monologues are also absolutely hilarious and while she's dense she's definetly not s*upid. Personally love the fact the female lead is "weak", but she has a steady personality and can clean up her own messes and that she has actual moral code unlike other heroines she's not selfish - Mei Gongqin, DMCW, etc.

As for the love interests, I really love Long Heng - ehehehe. Hopefully he is the male lead, though Song Quianyu is not bad himself. The romance is buildup in a realistic pace and the fluff and interactions between the BXQ and her love interests is absolutely delicious! This is definetly a must read! <<less

Is funny how the MC's original plans have a different result every time she tries something, as if the work of fate is slightly going to her favor. MC is dense, can't tell that the male lead is being jealous and starting to like her, she writes it off as an impossible thing from him, poor ML. She is very rational, but unlike other female MC's who are OP, she is normal, very kind, and with a fragile physique. One of the most entertaining romance novel being translated this year.

From the chapters that I've read, this novel is really good. The plot is not too fast nor to slow. It handles it cliches well and the characters are likeable. The heroine is also sensible and funny, I wonder if she's Bakarina 2.0.

The translation's quality is also superb. I can recommend it to everyone, even the ones who does not like transmigration stories.

This is the kind of train wreck of a novel that you can’t help but keep reading, ya know? Unfortunately, I stopped midway temporarily and I lost all interest after the break XD But! If there hadn’t been that distraction, I would have probably just continued reading this novel, no matter how tr*shy it is. In this way, I guess you can describe it as a pretty... good read? PFFT.

Summary: This story’s heroine is called Bai Xiangxiu/Mistress Xiu. She’s a transmigrator who was in the process of reading a dogblooded... more>> novel about a runaway protagonist and an unrelenting titled general (Prince Li/ Long Heng AKA the ML of this novel). By some mysterious reason, she finds herself waking up as the Mistress Xiu of the novel she was reading. Mistress Xiu was the 4th concubine of the ML, and she died miserably because she got in the way of the love between the original!FL and the ML. Knowing the original owner’s ending very well, the heroine does all that she can to avoid this fate. Her initial plan is to stay as far away from the ML as possible and curry favor with the secondary male lead, but things end up not working quite as she planned.

General Thoughts: I gotta say, if you’re planning to read this in all seriousness, make sure to keep the following in mind (minor spoilers) :

Spoiler
  • Due to unfortunate circumstances, the choices the characters make will appear very very s*upid. The FL is the biggest offender in this, but it should be said that her choices do have reasons, they’re just a bit flaky at times.
  • Be prepared for everyone constantly getting hurt XD. That’s what annoyed me most of all. It seemed like every single plot point led to the two main leads getting hurt in some way.
  • OH, and while we’re on that topic, also be aware that the ML will be c*ckblocked many (MANY) times.
  • CW: There are many triggering scenes here. r*pe, violence, etc. there’s nothing too graphic, but it can still be pretty triggering.
[collapse]

ALL in all, the story is fun to read but not very good. I can see why there are so many negative comments LOL. This is definitely a tr*sh novel. One that you read to tear apart and not for actual literary enjoyment, if you know what I mean. Depending on what you’re looking for, it may or may not serve you well.

Rating: 3.1/5

Although the characters are annoying, there’s no doubt that there’s a reason for everything that they do (even if the reason is a bit unrealistic at times). At least, the author doesn’t completely abandon their profiles. The romance, is a bit horrible, gotta say. But I thought it was interesting to see a direct confrontation between a modern woman and an ancient man. Their differences were very clearly depicted during the development, which was nice. The setting is a bit of a mess. And the plot equally so... However, the story is not the worst! It’s fine to read it if you have the opportunity and don’t mind the triggering subjects.

Packed full with all the novel tropes you can think of with huge plot holes.

everyone is hideously s*upid, they have zero morals, the author is a ridiculous misogynist and the way the story bends itself backward to help the MC and ML is just obnoxious

everyone is s*upid -> villains are just let loose. Every. Single. Time. They come and go as they please wrecking havoc again and again even when they should have been caught and disposed of already. The situations that happen are also ridiculous and yeah this is... more>> fiction but it should at least make sense??

Spoiler

like the OG FL's behavior. She runs away and just travels around with a strange guy that TOUCHES her all over and she's ok with it? And then she's CAUGHT making out with the strange guy by her FIANCÉ and even defends the strange guy but somehow thinks it's not a problem with her fiancé? What? No matter what period of time, who on earth would think it's ok to be caught cheating and not feel apologetic at all?!

the way the whole engagement and marriage with OG FL was dissolved was by letting LYZ crash the wedding and publicly reveal it. but ML didn't just end the engagement earlier even though he knew she cheated and there were already numerous rumors going around that she cheated. And he even 'protected' the OG FL by allowing her in to his property to supposedly protect her from LYZ for his own reputation because he's engaged to her. Huh? Then just end the engagement earlier? Why the hell do they have to almost get married? People around already believed that she cheated? So what's the difference to his family's reputation whether it's revealed that she cheated earlier or later?

the way LYZ was just never caught. Oh cmon. He just came and went as he wanted even though it was alr stated that ML is stronger than him. Even if he's some frigging pugilist he shouldn't be able to COME IN AND OUT OF EVERYWHERE WITH ZERO CONSEQUENCES.

the way chen Tao's actions could result in MC and ML being punished because MC hid her identity to enter the camp. Uh? Wasn't ML the general in charge? How can some random city protector override the general in charge? That's a joke.

the way OG FL and actual FL were just kidnapped ALL THE TIME. Cmon. They were just kidnapped left right and centre. Just stop. They sleep and boom they get kidnapped.

the way FL keeps tripping and falling. Like girl are your legs broken? How do you fall and trip so damn often?!

[collapse]

zero morals -> nobody has morals. They're literally all awful cheating scumbags.

Spoiler

there's the obvious scumbags like OG FL, SY, DYY, YY that slept around with everyone and used or blamed everyone else.

then there's the rapist LYZ that forced himself on OG FL but somehow made himself seem like a victim.

then the unobvious scumbags like SJY, FL and LK. SJY somehow beautified the fact that his best friend's concubine that he barely knew confessed her love for him? Seriously? She wasn't even a single lady she's literally a concubine that belongs to his best friend? And then he fell for the concubine and made those emotions super obvious both to FL and ML. And LK was the same hanging around FL and making his feelings for her super obvious even though he knows she has a partner. And finally FL fricking sleeping with a grown ass man because he has the mentality of a child. What? Who the hell would sleep with a random grown ass stranger even if he has the mental capacity of a child?! And also how she hung around with the two guy she KNEW had feelings for her.

[collapse]

author is a ridiculous misogynist -> most of the guys got off scot free despite their ridiculous immoral behavior but most of the females had awful endings even though they just behaved equally awfully.

Spoiler

especially LYZ. He r*ped OG FL repeatedly and made it a really awful experience for her, but boohoo he really loved her... why doesn't she love little rapist him. So sad... so heart breaking. And he just got off scot free even though he repeatedly broke the law and attacked MC and ML.

[collapse]

awful book. Some other review said this is meant to be a parody of novel tropes but it's not a parody, it's more like one of the worst renditions of novel tropes ever. It literally makes me shudder. <<less
