A great slow pace novel. In fact very slow that even you skip read you will lose nothing
Is MC ever know how to say no? Well maybe all Japanese salaryman only know to say yes
At chapter 27, it's become boring. No adventure, no good fight scene, no good side character, MC just follow what other people say which is worse than Satou.
I hope future chapter it will become interesting again. So for chapter now (ch 27) 2/5

I'm going to have to go with the consensus.. This is a 3.5-4 star novel.

PROS:
- MC is a good guy, he doesn't come to the new world and suddenly become a killing machine because he has the power.

- Good world building.

- MC's power is very powerful, but not as OP as Death March/etc. He has 9 ranks of spell, he can use 9 spells per rank per day - resulting in 81 total spells a day.. it's strong because he could use 9 'meteors' and summon 9 monster platoons... more>> a day, but without recharging his spells daily he can't use them again..

- A good mystery concerning the anki and their origins. I want to know more about it.

CONS:
- MC is a gigantic pushover. I could COMPLETELY understand him not wanting to kill a person. I can not understand him acting beta for no reason other than he was a 'salaryman'.

- MC completely lets other people run over and use him. He can not seem to determine his own value and whether it's some knight orders or mage associations he lets them nonsensically treat him as a subordinate. He even acknowledges the fact when the knight order was afraid he'd go to another country... they were afraid because obviously this MC is like stairs.. anyone can walk on him and so they quickly gave him some non-formal title that had responsibilities but no power.

- The plot is just boring and bland and there is no 'middle ground' when it comes to enemies (basically, the enemies are monsters who can barely think or devil-worshiping cultists).. I don't need an epic fantasy to be entertained but I at least need a compelling story line, adventure, or action/political scenes. This novel has none of those. <<less

The premise of the story was very interesting at first, however as the story progressed I began to see the illogical flaws from it.

Pros

-MC is not Psychopath or sociopath that I tend to see in this type of stories, that alone for me is a plus.

... more>> -A different magic system from the world that has weaknesses, that alone should make the Mc's journey challenging.

Cons

-Just like many transmigration or traveling to a different world stories this one also suffers from the same glaring flaw, and it's lack of commons sense. It is already stress that the MC is unaware of the common sense of this magical world I can understand that, but what about our worlds common sense? Where did it go? It appears this MC was living alone in cave completely shelter from the world, for him not to have a sense of danger that a magical world would represent.

-MC is over 40 year's old with the mentality of 10 year old.

-MC reveals the weakness of his magical system to one of the heroins that he just met, not logical.

I think the title is extremely misleading it should be: Lack of commonsense is hindering me from becoming TUEE. <<less

Wouldn't recommend to a person who doesnt like your everyday wimp goody two shoes MC. Despite being OP you'd think he would use his power but nope. Could have avoided alot of unncessary things if he had just used his power to eliminate obstacles but he is just too much of a nice guy. Novel has a black & white plot, either full good or full evil. You'd think 'Bad Guys' are fighting for a cause & MC understands them but nope, they look evil? They're evil. There isn't grey... more>> area in the plot. This is yr Standard JP novel with OP wimpy goody two shoes MC. Would have gave 1☆ but translation is great so 2☆. <<less

I have mixed thoughts. However, I deem it a 5 except for one flaw. It is well translated/written. The world is interesting, the setting is great, the main characters abilities are great as well. Other characters and even the main is for the short of amount of time decently memorable and fleshed out. But it suffers from a partially classic Japanese protagonist even though it doesn't even make sense here. You just became basically a living god after suffering as an overworked burntout white collar worker (virg*n? Its not clear... more>> or I missed it but I imagine it is so), power trip at least a little please. He doesn't make his own choices at all and gets swept up in everyone around him even though he's OP as hell. If you can get over that as I can then you will love this. If you can't you'll hate it.

Will edit if his personality evolves at all but I'm not expecting it. TLDR: if you can put up with a character that leans a little too closely to the japanese MC trope then you'll enjoy this story as everything else about it is fantastic. <<less

Uhhh thought it had potential but the guy is a typical Japanese beta MC. They don't need to be some psychopathic edgelord wannabe but on the other hand nor do they need to be a complete p**sy.

Spoiler

It literally starts with him being beaten and tortured by some bandits, that just announced their plan to r*pe one of the other captives. Yet when they start trying to kill him he summons creatures to help him and then says "please don't kill them just chase them away". Seriously? You're in the middle of their stronghold but hey lets just let them off with all the f*cked up sh*t they've done and oh lets let them alert anyone else that could be here.

Pro:

  • Good backstory of the world and the wizardry
  • No unnecessary harem since the MC have alot of males and females as subordinates
  • Powerful MC but still have limitation (need to charge spells daily) so he couldn't be reckless
  • Good writing and translation
Cons:

  • Annoyingly timid MC! 'Salaryman' that works for more than 10 years should become at least a manager in any company! His timidness is literally baseless if you ever work in any company.

Great story, great cast of characters with some down to earth serious plot, but with also fun characters help create a story about a MC who can be considered the ultimate, but at the same time, has many weakness (not unlimited power, lack of general knowledge in new world etc). Lucky the characters he meets along the way are quite nice, while others maybe have their own agendas the story hints and shows the thoughts behind the viel with great descriptions and character actions.

Translator has great quality as well, unfortunately,... more>> this is a Japanese work, so us peons will have to wait every week for hopefully 1-2 chapters (rather slow content release). <<less

This story is close to but not quite 5 stars.

One of its biggest pros (and also biggest cons) is the MC. Gio is a great character and quite diligent when it comes to making and executing plans involving his magic, but it's painful to read just how freaking PATHETIC he is at times. For example, the foul mouthed magician Claudia shits on him repeatedly and he never defends himself. His "I was a salaryman so my default behaviour is bowing and scraping" schtick gets old fast.

Spoiler

Some major things that bothered me were:
1. Gio wouldn't kill the wizard/bandits who attempted to mu*der him at the start of the story, and instead allowed them to flee to commit atrocities elsewhere. He even made note of this. Sure, some of them die to the aniki later, but I sincerely doubt all of them do.
2. The Order pronounces him an "ally" in a blatant attempt to drag him into their affairs *without consulting him* and he just accepts it as if that's the way it has to be. Considering he never intended to have anything to do with them, he should have immediately called them out on their underhandedness / presumptuousness.
3. Claudia is extremely arrogant and repeatedly orders him to go to the magician's guild or whatever because his magic scares her. Who gives a f*ck? How is fact that their magic is crappier than wizardry something he needs to account for? And what authority does she -- or even the guild itself -- have to treat him as though he's under their jurisdiction? In addition, it's irritating how she shows none of the fear or respect due to a person who can end her with a couple of sentences... but as always, Gio just takes it and obeys her orders as though it's natural.

It's things like that just... ugh!!

[collapse]

With that out of the way, Gio is quite good about using his abilities and he does step up and use his powers effectively (and in an awe-inspiring way), even if he has to put on a "wizard persona" to do it. The characters and world are also pretty developed. Heads up though... the story does a bit of geographical / political info dumping here and there, and it's sort of slow paced, but it's pretty enjoyable overall.

All in all it's pretty good.

--

Oh, and I'm also shipping Gio x Claura, but Claura needs to fix her attitude. Yes, she's nice underneath all the badmouthing, but I've never liked characters who think "Are you an idiot?" is an OK way to talk to friends. <<less

I was between 2 and 3 stars. On the one hand, I really appreciate the concept of magic vs wizardry, and the MC's use of wizardry being DnD-style as opposed to everyone else's magic being more like a video-game.

However, that novelty only goes so far, and is ruined by the Overpowered MC cliche. While I enjoy my overpowered protagonists as much as anyone else, this series early on hints at the weaknesses of this style of wizardry compared to magic, mainly the need to re-charge spells, and the time it... more>> takes to cast. The author even very early on makes it clear that his cheat spell of invincibility doesn't work on this world's magic because it's fundamentally different from his magic. Despite this, he then proceeds to never be challenged in any way. Then the limitations of his need to charge spells makes no difference because he's so high leveled he can have 81 spells use-able between needing to charge. He has yet to be shown ever coming close to running out of cheat OP magic.

Then you have the MC's personality. He's such a typical Japanese wimp. I don't get how even in power-fantasies LN authors seem to love their MC's being weak willed, overly cautious, terrified of being impolite, and completely dominated by women. I swear the most used phrase in this novel about a wizard isn't "wizard" or "magic" but "Japanese salaryman", The MC just keeps reminding us how much of a chump he used to be in his past life and how he's just pretending to be a big-shot in this world... and it just gets so old so fast.

Then you have the women. Typical cardboard cutout women in what's becoming a cardboard cutout harem. You have the first girl he meets being an innocent but plucky merchants daughter who clings to him and blushes whenever he's nice to her, the mage who is the worlds most generic tsundere, who shows no interest in the MC beyond getting jealous when he interacts with any other woman, and then we get number 3, a curvy dark-elf who has sword absolute loyalty to our MC for the rest of her life. None of them have any depth, no real agency, no real reason to be at all interested in the MC except that he's powerful.

The worst part though, is this dude's supposed to be a middle-aged dude, not a teen nor re-incarnated as a teen, and yet he seems to have the mind of a typical teen protagonist. <<less

Strange. I usually can't stand novels with submissive, overly polite main characters, but this one was actually quite enjoyable. Sure I'm annoyed at things like him getting picked on by the tsundere love interest, however the good points of the story manage to overshadow those flaws.

To start off with, Gio actually isn't that much of a herbivore. The first few chapters are annoying, but he eventually learns to put on an act, understanding that such a timid personality would only get him taken advantage of. As a result most people... more>> treat him with the awe and respect a demigodlike existence deserves.

Another good thing is that he has complete confidence in his power. He fully understands how gamebreaking his cheats are, which is why he's scared of letting it get to his head. Gio knows that he has the potential to become a tyrant if he treats this world casually, as evidenced by him being tempted to brainwash someone with Charm early on.

Lastly, I fully enjoy the D&D inspired spellcasting system, especially since it's contrasted with the world's own system of magic, which reminds me of classic JRPGS (mp bars and spell windows). It's nice that as utterly absurd as Gio's powers are, they're at least consistent and have several glaring weaknesses.

Overall definitely worth a read. <<less

MC is such a massive pushover that it made me stop reading this novel. He's, and I hate to use this term, your typical beta male Japanese character. Honestly I think the thing that ruined this novel is him getting all the information of his character stuck in his head, it would've worked better if he didn't remember all his sorcery and had to relearn his character or that he doesn't have the memories of when he was a salaryman. But because we get both, him with his character's skills/magic/items/knowledge... more>> but have his facial features and his memory he becomes such a pushover. Should he have had the look of his own character then maybe it could have helped him come to terms that he's dead and he's no longer *insert name* but he's now his character.

This guy just can't accept that he's no longer a japanese man and he should no longer act like one so we get a pushover MC who's stronger than everyone but gets walked on like it's normal.

Man Diablo was better cause at least his acting was believable and Rimuru introduced himself as such instead of his past Japanese name.

sigh, just writing this irritated me. <<less

Initially, I didn't read this novel because the MC is an ossan and seem to be a weak minded person. But after giving volume 1 a chance, I start to love it. I like how all the other side characters underestimated him (especially those magicians) saying they can't see any magical power in him. But as the story goes on, they to look up to him. I know. Typical but I really like it.

Now this is a proper MC with magical power with strength and weaknesses. Most protagnists in LN out there has no weaknesses for there survival and cheat purpose in another world. Having no weaknesses they're never understood growth physically and mentally. This is good as seeing view to a middle aged person an adult that experience hardship and understood the wider things rather a young male lead who still growing. I absolutely love this, though I might be a bit biased as I love D&D as well. It brings forth the idea to compare magic that appears in JRPG-type games versus the traditional D&D "literally can do anything" magic.

Pacing is great. At this point in the series everything is still being fully set up. Hoever, the world is interesting and mysterious. The MC is actually really cool despite being a timid person. It also goes into surprising detail about modern Japanese culture, as a way to explain the MC's personality. And yes he's op af.

It is one of those stories that you'd want at least 50 chapters to marathon. It lwaves you wanting more.

I've found this to be very interesting so far. The wizard is powerful, but he has his weaknesses, and he requires allies to cover those weaknesses. So, I wouldn't say that he's overpowered. I do wish that he would have incarnated with a younger body. His middle-aged body removes much of the s*xual tension and the prospects for romance. That takes part of the fun out of the novel, but the rest of the novel is good enough to make up for it.

Slow-paced story about a transported (?) soul from modern world into sword-and-magic world. The MC isn't incompetent, but he's surprisingly timid for someone on his age. How should I put it..... that title really explains the MC's attitude in this another world.

As there's only 14 chapters released, I can't explain too much about the plot (he's just reached the first town, duh!). I expect some growths on MC's personality in the near future.

..... btw, I'm shipping Gio×Claura.

Well, a very nice read, which, considering it hasn't been updated in more than three years, I shouldn't have started. Frustration is going to hit me again.

Contrary to some who left a bad review here, I don't think there anything wrong with the MC's cautious personality in all aspects. And no, whether in Japan or anywhere else, 10 years in a company by no means will have you becoming a manager.

I especially think it is a very nice touch to have him very worried about letting his power make him into a kind of self-centered monster

So, overall a nice read and I wish the translator (who did a good job so far) would give it some love again. <<less

Very enjoyable read. It's a fairly light read that includes a good balance of suspense, mystery, action, fantasy, politics, adventure, and kingdom-building. Having read everything in one day, I can attest to the appeal of the characters and setting.

Although there is a level/skills system, it's not like a novel based on a MMORPG-like system where characters focus on levelling, classes, and skills. This is an important part of the setting, as our MC is a maxed-out Wizard-class character. However, his skills, class, items, and the system itself have various drawbacks... more>> and inconveniences. These mitigate the MC's OP-ness and make the story much more interesting.

Personality-wise, the MC is quite passive, but not overly so like too many other WNs. What the author consistently tries to show is that the MC is cautious, although this caution isn't simply due to his past life as a normal Japanese salaryman or his lack of knowledge about the world, but rather includes realistic considerations about the limitations of his abilities. For example, he has a limited set of spells and, without charging them beforehand, can only use each once per day.

The other characters are also interesting and are gradually growing with the plot in a very organic way. I'm really looking forward to see how this story unravels. <<less
