I really have fun with this one! If you take any average harem shounen with Gary Suish MC and replace it with heroine and reverse harem, you get Hidden Marrige!

Ning Xi is so perfect that it is ridiculous to critisize her for anything. The story always end up helping her as well. Her admires are endless, she is talented, outspoken, levelheaded, goddess like beatiful, strong and rutless when needed.... It is so over the top that you cannot take it seriously but that is exactly what I find interesting. Past... more>> that the novel contain fluff and face smaking - the Chinese version of fanservice. I am getting what I am signing for so no complains.

For those that critisize the novel, this is not a serious read. You should not invest yourself into the story. Take it as it is and you will have fun. Otherwise go ahead with nitpicking but I wonder if you will ever be satisfied with any novel at all... <<less

It's like a fairy tale with modern setting. The story was okay in the beginning. Although it's superficial, cliché and has lots of filler arcs, but it's quite good for killing time because of its fast release speed. At least it deserved 4 stars. However, it goes downhill nearing the end. The ending is very abrupt and rushed because the author has started a new project. Some arcs don't even make sense hence 3 stars.

Overall, I liked this series a lot. It was quite balanced in angst, comedy, romance, drama, and doting elements. The series contained details like revenge from main lead and more evil deeds from the villain quite a lot, so some of you might not like the repeat of the same thing over and over again.

Spoiler

Ning Xi get her happy ever after with the big bun and small bun.

The book is overall decent, but as normal Chinese people have no idea how firearms work or anything about them except for restricted Google searches. The last few chapters have made me cringe real hard.

At first, I like the story.. I really do.. but after 200 chapters or so.. I was getting tired of it. I noticed the redundancy of the flow of the story. In every arc there will be an annoying (b1tchy) antagonist that will shame MC. Those antagonists are REALLY unreasonable that you will think if whether there's something wrong with their head (really=_=). Then at the end of those arc, there will be a resounding "b1tchslap" that will make their (antagonist) face turn red to green to blue or whaever... more>> color in th rainbow there is... *sigh*

Even then, I still read it since it's hard to drop the novel that you once love. But then there's part in the story where they shame MC because of having small closet.. (Yes, a closet, a freakin closet!!!) MC wins tho, since big bun provided her a room that has secret walk in closet that is full of clothes designed by a legendary designer or whatnot...

but gawdd I've had it... I've really had enough of too s*upid characters... I'm sorry big bun, lil treasure and the yet to be seen underworld god YS... but I'll now drop this novel. <<less

a very cute and sweet story.

The interaction with the lil bun make everything cuter ans the female ML has a very interesting personality, imao, she 's not helpless, waiting for the main lead to help her.

Even if the two buns are really shining, for the moment they s are the one that need her, and that make the story so cute.

This is a fun read! The story is fun and the romance is heart warming. If you like this kind of story (a bit OP, fluffy romance, comedy) you'll get hooked once you've read it. I read it in one go, actually, haha~

The plot flows wonderfully and the translators and editors had made it so that each chapters was really pleasant to read! Thank you for you guys for giving me the chance to read such a fun novel :)

By far, one of the best romance novel that I have read that didn't involve some sort of super powers or fighting scenes. This is more of a modern day badass women who was an ugly duckling but grew to be the most beautify and skilled swan.
Spoiler

She went from being an abandoned women who had her fiance stolen by a half sister and finding out that her baby, who was "killed by a car accident while in the womb" was actually the child of the to when said sister drugged her, then paid some men to r*pe her, to being a gorgeous actress who has left countless good-looking rich men 's broken hearts in a trail behind her. Now she's got one of the richest, handsome "demon king" in the world trying to win her heart and he comes with a cute little bun.

A great read would recommend to anyone. Please review, rate, and add this to you reading list because when we reach a certain threshold, the translators do another sponsor chapter for free!!!

This is a good read. The translator brings the true personalities of the characters to you. MC's, male and female have encountered a tragic event in their lives and are not certain of the reasons why. Male MC is strong and aggressive. Female MC is evolving into a stronger persona but has retained some of her naivete. Along comes an unexpected gift (a small child) in the mist of turmoil and theses too people become entangled in a blossoming love that locks out the pains of their past. Read as... more>> you see our male MC slowly weave a web of loving deceit to snare his love while maneuvering around his irresistible son who has been his greatest support and rival. <<less

I love, love, love this book so much. I am so happy and grateful. I don't want to drop spoilers but the romance is very slow but once it's confirmed they are inseparable and Ning Xue Luo - lol really senseless

I can't believe how long it took them to start dating. But I really loved the fact that they were together and trusted each other. Even when certain things got revealed, forgiveness helped them move on.

I love the big reveal so much. I read that chapter like 10 times

Xue Luo really got it in the end

I really like this novel, even though sometime's it's kind of draggy overall I love it. I adore scenes with little bun and Ning Xi. It really has a lot of melodrama clichés but I love that (it's my guilty pleasure). The translation is great thanks volarenovels for being so dedicated to this novel

I loved the novel, I came here to spread Little Bun's cuteness and MC resourcefulness on every situation. Though, the main male interest is a bit overjelly, but their interactions can be both cute and funny (specially, MC's antics makes you go ROFL).

Not regret to read it..., This is funny, cute, reading the raw and I didnt know that I read it till the latest chapter.. at ch 1233 now.. really looking forward for the next chapter!!!, Really binge this novel for 4days and really love it!! just till the last chapter (I re read ch 1 again for waiting the new chapter) , and till the latest chapter they still not married, but they are in a hidden relationship, it is cute, and again Xiao bao appearance is a lot... more>> too, a well balance love story, acting and childcare.

Spoiler

Ning xi is cool, xiao bao is cute (you can imagine his face like kotarou from gakuen babysitter (gakubaby), his cuteness, and action a bit like koutarou, just read first the manga, and then read this, you will know what I mean... all his stiffness, all his cuteness really a koutarou version on WN), and for lu ting xiao he love ning xi, the love is like crushing some company that because they scratch her or hurt her is worth it, a really devoted husband, and cute little family!!!

The villain or the enemy here (ning Xue Lo), A really shameless b*tch, yeah you can imagine someone who not blood relative not even their relative, an outsider, want to grab an inheritance and even hope get more than the real daughter/relative?? if there is any Best Shameless Award, , she really got in that category and even win, but it is trully wasted to give an award to her... really..

TL;DR: Plot is incredibly convoluted with a lot of unneeded events. It takes forever for them to progress in the relationship but faceslapping enemies is almost immediate. Also the antagonists have memories of goldfish or are dead set on their plan despite how mentally deficient it is (really, they need a "if this 7 year old thinks it's a bad plan" kind of advisor for the dumb things they do).

The MC and ML in this are the typical badass type characters even though there is no justifiable reason for them... more>> to be the way they are.

The MC grew up in the country (which may explain her cooking skills but explains zero else), and was madly in love with a rich boy who was there to recuperate. Once he returns to his own family, it's discovered the MC is actually the birth child of the Ning family so they make her return home. Unfortunately, she is targeted by the replacement daughter and manipulated into looking like a dumb and foolish girl. Culminating in a traumatic event before being sent overseas. During the time way, she apparently goes through a Bruce Wayne into Batman kind of life and we watch her return as a badass who wants to be an actress.

Spoiler

She comes back after being part of a gang and can now race motorbikes and cars. Is a master martial artist (but still not as good as other people in the story) and sharpshooter (can even hit the target while blindfolded). Can sing and play the guqin (only knew one song but still). Also knows master level make up skills and is capable of disguising herself to the point that she's unrecognizable.

Also, she's insanely gorgeous (described as goddess like beauty) but can also change her appearance to be a godly handsome man. Which implies she's heavily androgynous I guess?

[collapse]

The ML is the typical cold and domineering CEO who genuinely thought he was as*xual until he met the MC (and then he goes full beast with wanting to kiss her while she's sleeping and masturbating while thinking of her, I bet he wants to hold her hand too). He has shitty parents who are controlling everything in the ML's son's life and even get upset when the ML chooses to want to date the MC. They have their reasons and they really only serve as a roadbump in the ML's life that could easily be solved but that never happens.

We join the story as the MC is returning to China to be an actress. Right off the bat, the replacement daughter is making life difficult for her but the MC doesn't really care. She's just going to try to do her own thing. Through the actions of the replacement daughter, the MC ends up meeting Little Treasure (yes, they directly translated his nickname and it's that way through the entire story) which leads her to the ML and the beginning of a "will they, won't they?" relationship. Along the way, we are introduced to way too much.

There are kidnapping plots (like 6 attempts with most of them being the MC), actresses out to ruin the MC, people falling in love with the MC upon first glance (both men and women), the ML's parents trying to set him up with the same woman (who is utterly mental) and a revenge plot so convoluted that I think the Author just wanted so many different stories and combined them into one.

I had a bunch written about how many plots there were but novelupdates apparently ate them so you'll just have to read the story.

While Little Treasure (I am still not gonna get over that direct translation) was cute despite not being very childlike and some of the interactions were funny, the story ends up dragging for way too long. I found it hard to care about some of the characters and it even felt like some of them should just be "nameless villain A". Even some of the normal but repeatedly mentioned people were nigh impossible to care about. Plus the revenge plot was even more convoluted than it needed to be.

Spoiler

So in ML's father's generation, there was another family known as the Yuns. The Lus (the ML's family) and the Yuns were completely opposed to one another. This resulted in the Yun family arranging for certain people to go to the Lu family with the intention of seduction and then mu*der (yeah, they sent women). One of them fell in love with the ML's father, got pregnant but then refused to mu*der anyone. This resulted in the Gang Leader (yeah) who would become one of the MC's exes.

But since she refused to do what her family wanted, they killed her and blamed the Lus. Which resulted in her uncle (or brother? The age description is really weird in this) going off the deep end and raising her son to get revenge against the Lus.

Then there is Annie who was also sent to mu*der someone but refused so the Yun family killed off her brother (the Yuns are definitely hitting 2 for 2 here). Annie then goes completely nuclear and decides she needs to mu*der everyone related to the incident. Which means she completely wipes out the Yun family (except the gang leader and the uncle/brother guy) and then sets her sights on the Lus as if they hadn't existed, then there would have been no need for her brother to die.

Which is why she saved a mostly dead Little Treasure (that is not how anything works ever) and sent him to the Lus so she could get revenge later as she poisoned him. The poison was incredibly specific, that it would be triggered in five years so they'd suffer the pain of growing attached and then having the little guy die. Then she changes her mind briefly, gives him a medicine pouch that prevented it for two years (and the kid still kept it with him all the time) but then returns to her goal until the MC learns it was her and accidentally reunites her with her long lost love (who she didn't remember because she had amnesia).

Yup.

[collapse]

Also, there are some events that you think would happen sooner but don't happen until the last few chapters of the novel (version I read had 2000+ chapters and yeah, a lot of kinda important stuff doesn't happen until the last 200).

Spoiler

Like the fact that the MC is actually Little Treasure's birth mother. In fact, this is not shared to the MC in an intimate setting but in front of a whole bunch of people by the replacement daughter in an effort to ruin the MC in front of the ML. But we already learned that he knew by like a quarter of the way through the story. Plus, the replacement daughter never once checked what became of the "dead" baby.

Or the MC and ML actually being sexually intimate. Don't get me wrong, s*x doesn't make a relationship but the number of times it was implied that the ML was "close to losing control" had me thinking they had done the deed repeatedly but no, they didn't do the deed until after she woke from the coma.

[collapse]

The plot is just so off the rails that it's like the author wanted to write something different and then included it in this story. It's like a Disney Princess story where they take a holiday at Crystal Lake.

While I enjoyed this (hence the 4), it still has so many problems. <<less

I've read Hidden Marriage so many times because it's forever among the top CNovels in my heart.

I like how principled the FL is, to focus on making herself happy instead of wasting time fighting with her terrible family. I like how high EQ the ML is, to not force the girl he loves but actually take his time to get to know her and prove his sincerity. I like how chill the story is about LGBTQ themes like asexuality and crossdressing.

But the most special thing about this story is definitely... more>> the way it centers around the FL's career. Entire arcs of the story can be defined by what movie she's filming, because she spends most of her time and energy on set. It's so refreshing to see for yourself how much hard work and talent the FL has, instead of having an entire month of filming glossed over in a single paragraph. You can really believe that her goal is to be the top actress, and that she's not just paying lip service or trying to make a quick buck.

If you're looking for reasons not to read this, though, here it is. The FL follows the Mary Sue trope; while there are things she's bad at, she's way too talented to be realistic especially considering her background. Actually, the ML and his son are also unrealistically talented so it's not just her. The descriptions of American cities as these totally lawless wastelands made me laugh, and the introduction of martial arts and hidden families part way through the novel was confusing.

But I give Hidden Marriage a grain of salt because it's among the older webnovels I've read. It just wouldn't be fair to compare it to newer titles that are also following the trend. For a series that's this long and was completed years ago, I feel like it's held up remarkably well and that's why I still love it. <<less

I was really enjoying the story but the male character pissed me off, even though it seems like he's always letting her sort things out, it's more like a stage set for her to act, so I really couldn't finish reading.

This novel is really fun in the first 300 chapters, after that it starts to drag and it alternates good arcs with boring ones. What made me read all of it are the really funny characters - I had good laughs. Don't expect this to be realistic, there are a lot of over the top stuff and you just laugh because it is totally ridiculous.

You can see a lot of cliches here, but at least the ML is kinda respectful and you can see that the author tried a lot... more>> to make him perfect. And the main villainess, she is ridiculous, but really entertaining (every time the story was so so, she appeared and the story got better again). Now, in the spoiler tag I'm going to talk about some of the cliches that I didn't like.

Spoiler

First, we have the plot of both ML and FL getting drugged and abused. That's terrible. And of course, the child is going to be from both of them - this is kind of a golden rule in chinese novels, if there is a child, it has to be the child of ML and FL and they are going to create a ridiculous explanation to why they didn't know about this.

Second, all the plots in the USA were terrible. I hated them - I was just skim reading. Yun Shen and his people were totally unnecessary. Later on, all that stuff about industrial espionage, kidnapping - Useless. And more stuff just to drag the story.

Third, FL in coma for a year... I hated that too. I saw this coma plot in another chinese novel and it was totally useless. Here in this novel, it serves just for her to have more challenges in the end (I only enjoyed that we got to know Xu Tao - he is one of the best characters, I really liked him.

Fourth, the r*pe attempt toward Zhuang Kerr was totally unnecessary and also all the Tiangxin and Mo Lingtian plot - I didn't get this novel to read about this type of stuff... At least, these two didn't get together in the end - I was really afraid of what the author was going to do with them.

[collapse]

In general, this is not exactly a good novel, but I think it is better than most CEO novels. So if you want to read this type of novel, I think this is a good one. And if you want to enjoy this, don't take anything seriously - just laugh and turn your brain off. <<less
