*EDIT* After reading an additional ~370 chapters, I'd rate it a tad higher, like a 2.75. Ice princess and his best friend get some needed development, the action remains solid, the world continues to expand. The great flaw of throwing repeated punching bags at the MC has not died down one bit though.

I feel like this deserves a 2.5, but I will round it down to a 2. After binge reading up to 779 I feel like I have a decent enough grasp on pros/cons (mainly cons). The series can... more>> be enjoyable in a sort of mindless way if you like the story of a boy with a cheat item/cheat skill and him rising up in power and sticking it to arrogant rich/powerful people while being just as hilariously and hypocritically arrogant as the people he hates so much.

Plot: MC gets transported to mirror version of his world where magic reigns and science doesn't. His family is dirt poor, cue rise to power as his cheat item/cheat innate skill give him an incredible advantage in growth. While there is a big bad and he clashes with them in major events every now and then, the series can be grouped into a series of "adventures" that ranged from duels to investigations to calamitous disasters. Not exceptional and not bad, but if there was a flaw I'd point out it's dissonance; in one instance the MC can be making arrogant declarations and fighting/pissing off pretty much everyone for kicks and comedy, and several chapters later a city is literally being threatened by demons/undead and thousands are dying.

Setting: Magical version of Earth. It's honestly fairly well done and contained, with tons of room for expansion. While the MC is powerful, you can get the sense of sheer size of the population in realized that there are still tons of mages in the world more powerful than he is.

Characters: There are many, many characters, plenty of which recur, but ultimately the one who needs to be focused on the most is the MC who is of course, the central and driving character. He is an extremely flawed character on one hand (which I think is something to be applauded) but unfortunately treated in a fashion where I find it difficult to respect him in relation with everyone else.

The MC starts dirt poor and hating rich people for their lordly arrogance, which he is most definitely entitled to seeing as nearly 800 chapters in, almost every single student/teacher/mage/person he meets seems to have learned their manners from a wolverine with a gigantic chainsaw up its ass. He used to be an exceptional student but has lost his way due to a certain event with his first puppy love so he becomes widely regarded as tr*sh. A special monk chooses him to go the magical world, he views it as a chance to have a second start, and lo and behold he discovers he has an insane talent for it and a cheat item that makes it even better. So begins his quest to become a powerful mage and stick it to all those people he hates, while getting rich. He largely succeeds at this, quite quickly too.

His rise to power gives way to extreme swagger and arrogance. From the word go a scenario that is crops up is the "Arrogant noble/rich/powerful student/mage assumes he is tr*sh while knowing JACK sh*t about him, and shortly gets his/her surprise comeuppance when MC displays the power he has." This is repeated so often I'm shocked that it hasn't reached the point of parody 779 chapters in, but it really hasn't. It just keeps happening in a 100% played straight fashion. The MC loves to rub this in people's faces, he is not remotely shy about it and he will be incredibly rude and disrespectful about it because why not? They treat him the same way.

The problem is that 800 chapters in, the MC has basically been nothing but the extreme jerk with a heart of gold trope and that the story basically sets up punching bags in the form of more students/mages for him to knock down and validate him being a rude jerkass to people. This wouldn't be a problem if the author didn't use it SO FREQUENTLY. Almost every student or non-super mage is basically there to either be knocked down by the MC or to sing his praises. Whether it being through plot contrivance, his own strength or his cheat item, no one ever knocks HIM down so he may grow wiser. Because of this, it becomes very hard to respect him or his peers.

Lastly, the females are the story are basically treated like pieces of meat by not just the MC, but the overwhelming majority of males in the story. The harem element is executed very awkwardly as well - so many women certainly have some degree of feelings for the MC (very few of them act decisively on it though), but they are all very separate from one another. They are almost never in the same room or interact with each other. When he is alone with his crippled sister, she is the #1. When he is alone with the ice princess, she is the #1. When he is alone with his fire mentor, she is the #1 and so and so on. There is no weaving or intricacy to it. How would his crippled sister (who really does seem to be the clear #1) react if she found out he openly flirts with ice princess and calls her his wife in front of other people? We never find out. Of course his flirting can be excused with him just being a flippant playboy, but that's ALL we ever get.

Overall, I mostly got tired of the other characters being set up as punching bags for him. It's reused so frequently that I just had to stop. I do enjoy his growth and seeing him reach new heights, but I hate how pretty much every single place he walks to has to feature at least 1 (it's very often more than 1) character who for some reason, without ever speaking or knowing about the MC, assumes he's useless tr*sh that has no business being there despite the information being out there and numerous clues that can be inferred, is ludicrously jealous that girls like him, can't adjust their way of thinking at all once visually confirming the MC is powerful or all of the above. I can't emphasize enough how stale it gets due to the sheer frequency of how much the author writes it in. <<less

Spoiler

This series has a slow start but it gets better after the first few arcs. The power system is basically a tiered system, each time a magician raises a tier he gains an additional element. There are many different types of elements in the story such as the basic 5 elements fire, water, earth, lightning and wind and also some special elements like ice, spatial and summon. Each element has its own advantages and disadvantages like fire and lightning specializing in destruction as well as elemental defense water defense can weaken fire attacks.

The protagonist has his own cheat skill (called inborn talent in the novel) he gains 2 elements whenever he raises a tier so he can use more skills than other magicians at his tier and eventually more skills than those above his tier. Normally having more elements means requiring more cultivation time but he has a cheat item that negates that.

This is not a novel where the protag solos all the enemies though, there are a lot of battles where he and his friends have to work together to defeat the baddies. Some hiliarious moments occur in battle where he and his friends are in a life and death situation and he and 1 of his friend always say something that doesn't fit the tense atmosphere prompting a tsukkomi retort by another party member.

This novel is not all rainbows and sunshine though, many times the protagonist has to witness several tragedies that he was unable to stop due to being too weak and those tragedies become a pushing force to be stronger. Saying more would spoil the story but I highly encourage to read up to these few chapter checkpoints c120, c327 and c700.

There are some minor plot holes in the story but it appears that way because the author is trying to avoid the generic cliche such as meeting arrogant nobles then beating them up or freeing girls from forced marriages etc etc. Each companion of the MC has his/her own stories some of them appear for only a few arcs then slowly fade away but the permanent party members of the MC have their stories slowly develop along with the MC which I feel is better compared to other series where the MC solos everything and his friends/love interests are just left behind in a safe area.

This story has so much potential to be great. But somehow I get all confused with names. I read the whole chapter and didn't really knew what I read. I have to reread it and that happens only if the story is inconsistent.

Cannot understand the bad reviews at all. This is one of the best xuanhuan/isekai novel out there. The start is slow, but then it gets brilliant very fast! It is not very deep in terms of cultivation nor in world-building, but the characters are lovable and fascinating, the story is engaging and the dialogues are often exhilarating. The fighting scenes are very well written, with the right amount of pacing and tension and are always unpredictable. While this is not the most original or profound novel of... more>> this genre, it is a pleasure to read such good writing for a change. The only big defect is the pitiful, AWFUL cultivation system, just elements and numbers with no real depth or lore behind it. You have to work really hard to find a worse cultivation system than the one in versatile mage. <<less

This is a fantasy/action series with such deep plot holes, you might break an ankle tripping over them. The plot holes, poor writing, poor editing, and weak character designs are the greatest weaknesses of this series. Some of the action scenes do better, but the low-quality writing cuts the excitement drastically.

The plot holes and inconsistencies are so drastic and confounding, this is definitely a series you have to turn your brain off to read. Critical details are left out or changed without explanation. For instance, the MC wears his ancient... more>> ring on his finger, but it somehow transforms into a pendant off-screen without any explanation, which he then wears as a necklace. The comic avoids this confusion by just starting him out with a pendant and not a ring. I don't understand why water and ice are considered two different elements of magic. Water is just the liquid form of ice, and ice is just the sold form of water; they're both H2O. Are steam, fog, or cloud magic all going to be their own elements, too? Since the MC spent an entire summer in the library, why doesn't he know the basic knowledge he was supposedly studying all that time? No one sees the MC awaken the lightning element because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS CLASSMATES is looking away from him. Not even a casual glance, guys? No one heard the crackle of electricity? The MC somehow uses a CRAYON to change his appearance... Wtf? Is his face a coloring book page? The MC has a broken cell phone at the beginning, but it spontaneously disappears at some time while he suddenly has been using payphones off-screen all this time. Although he already had a phone (chapter 1), at some point, he couldn't afford a phone (chapter 56) ? Later, he has his own phone working again. What? No explanation whatsoever has been given about any of this. Furthermore, the beasts are supposed to like eating the magical stones that are in appliances, so why aren't they being attracted to all these energy forces in the city? If the government has been looking for these GIANT RAT TUNNELS for an entire year, how come they have no results? Those are some big freakin' tunnels--they should be hard to miss.

Characters don't know the MC is there, even when they're present and talking to him and even addressing him by name. I am serious. Chapter 107.

The MC isn't not the brightest bulb in the box, but he could probably be considered a genius when compared to everyone else in this series. There is literally an entire group of people who tries to avoid monster rats by going into the sewers. There are large RATS outside, so let's go into the sewers because there are ABSOLUTELY NO RATS IN THE SEWERS. What is wrong with these people? Did magic all fry their brains? Whatever happened to common sense in this world?

Having no literature classes in this novel doesn't make any sense. They have books and can read written words, so they must have some kind of literature or grammar classes unless they "feel" the words via magic or something. Unfortunately, there is no world background, so who knows?

The writing is weak. Although plots and events happen, there are no critical character-establishing moments early on, and the use of imagery is practically nonexistence. While clichés have their uses, they're done in such a cringe-worthy way, this series is almost painful to read at times... The writing is awkward when the POV changes without warning. There are fillers everywhere, and I had to resist the urge to bang my head against my desk. The good news is the dry writing improves for a short while as the series goes on, especially with action scenes (although there is a whole lot of talking going on during only one second).

Unfortunately, this brief period of decent fighting scenes is soon interrupted by excessive rambling and redundancy in the text. At times, you can skip an entire chapter and not miss any important information, especially since the text is so inconsistent with it in the first place. One or more consecutive chapters can be filled with dialogue that doesn't have any impact on the story or plot progression at all as characters swoon about how cool the MC is. There is no sense of pacing at all. The breather chapters about the MC's daily life as he trains and grows are only filled with useless dialogue or jumped over entirely with surprise time-skips. The action scenes could easily be much more exciting and intense if pointless rambling was removed and stopped interrupting the fights. It cuts the intensity so hard, I don't see why it's there at all.

The sexism is revolting. For instance, the narrator asks how a girl can possibly do something that would risk her life? Why couldn't she? They're all practically training as soldiers. Women are only valued for being sexy because there's no other way they can be appealing, whether it's by their capabilities or intelligence. Women are so weak, they will cry at any scare or little scratch. That said, I've seen much worse on this site, but that alone was enough for me to consider dropping the series.

Why do all the women wear tight clothes, even the wealthy ones? Can they not afford clothes that fit? These clothes are always described as tight, not form-fitting, tailored, or fitted, but TIGHT. Why do they all dress and look the same? What's with the description for women, anyway? Generally, they are described as sticks with large breasts. The country in this parallel world is also called China. Although Asia is famous for having borderline underweight women, it is not exactly known for women with large bosoms... Are these melons grown with magic? If they have large chests, then why not give them a decent pair of child-bearing hips or something to match and give them an hourglass shape or something? Fortunately, the comic varies their appearances to some degree and gives them hips and usually even gives them clothing that fits.

... Honestly, before chapter 100, I had already gotten to the point where I wanted all the female characters to die because all they could do was cry, which was becoming extremely annoying. Why not just make it a male-only world where they can only reproduce using magical plants or something? Why even have women at all, if they're this worthless?

Then, there are the men... They have hardly any descriptions available for them aside from facial hair. I don't believe any of them had any clothing described, so I guess the readers can just picture all the men as nude, running around with their junk just jiggling around. Now, reread the story with that image in mind...

I can't like the MC in the novel. A lot of the MC's unlikable characteristics, such as arrogance, impulsivity, and poor strategizing abilities, are emphasized and shown repeatedly while his redeeming traits, like his hard work, receive minimal emphasis in the novel. The MC in the novel goes around picking fights while the one in the comics is much more mature. The MC in the novel tests his lightning magic on living humans as his first test subjects; in the comic, he can finally use magic, but it was the fight itself that connected the last star, which is much more sensible. The MC also does a lot of dumb things like practicing lightning magic on a bus full of people. The comic does much better in these aspects. If I had read the novel before the web comic, I think I would've ended up dropping it before too long.

Everyone is cliché and flat as far as character design goes with some exception to the MC and his incredibly naïve dad. The villains are especially cliché with their heel-faced turns and evil laughter at their every appearance. They're pretty stereotypical evil, although their punishment of melting their members' faces off as punishment and therefore eliminating any possibility to use them as spies again in the future is interesting, albeit illogical. Why make your spy unable to act as a spy? You'd think the punishment would be less visible, so he could still do his job. What use does he have at all anymore?

The world background is a parallel world with the same people as ours but with everything based on "magic" rather than "science." That is all the background given. If you're looking for world-building, it's practically non-existent here and has plenty of inconsistencies to boggle your mind. This is quite unfortunate as it was one of the most appealing parts of this series.

No information is given on the version of the MC who was supposedly transferred from the magical world to the science-based one, which is a huge disappointment, and makes me wonder if the writer forgot the initial setting of this series.

The translation quality is in desperate need of help but is still at the point where most of it makes sense. Numerous common nouns are capitalized for no reason, including but not limited to Magic, Math, Mansion, Master, Beast, Monster, and Evil. Why? They're not proper nouns, so they should just be lower-cased like everything else. There are distracting, misplaced underscores in the text. They usually connote the MC's thoughts, but sometimes they're just randomly placed every few words. In chapter 3 for example, it says, "_Oh, _ _M__agic illiterate!_" What is this bizarre contraption? The text looks fine on the original Gravity Tales website, but it looks like some of the formatting was incongruent when the text was transferred to Webnovel. There are also completely irrelevant chapter notes at the bottom of the chapters, so I think they might actually be from another series. They keep talking about an "advantage" as an erection being pushed against someone, which has no relevance to this novel at all, but leads to dozens of hilarious "advantage" comments in the comments section... Each chapter has more grammatical errors than I am willing to count, which is incredibly distracting. There are some inconsistent terms, such as Black Vatican and Black Church as well as various spell names, but they're usually fairly consistent. This series was put on Webnovel nine months ago, so it appears unlikely these issues will ever be corrected.

There's also some confusion about what happened between the MC and the Mu Family. I'm not sure if this is a translation error or something to do with the writer. Early on, it says the Mu Family took advantage of him and then, in the footnotes, it describes "advantage" as someone pushing an erection against him. Later in the novel, it says he eloped with daughter of that family. It's unclear whether he got mol*sted or eloped or both.

Overall, I would recommend reading the comic, which is published under the same title, over reading the novel. Although the comic leaves out some details present in the novel, removes many more bad things than good things. For instance, dozens of plot holes are removed or filled in, the MC is much more likeable, and the action scenes aren't bogged down by the author's rambling. That version, although it has its flaws, feels like a more revised version of the novel.

There's also a twelve-episode anime called Quan Zhi Fa Shi, but I have no intention of watching it at this time. <<less

Below was before new translator took over now changed from max star's to new rating because he not as good and way too greed as cannot read anymore unless pay seems to read each chapter have pay again. What an CENSERED.

This is an excellent series love reading it online and eagerly await release of each chapter only bad at time of written this is slowish releases oh the waiting this easily one of the best web novels read/reading to date and read at least bit of all currently... more>> available. Tried give 4 and half to max star's for this excellent and exciting series as only bad really is badly written attempts at romances thankfully not much in series at this time. (Most web novels do them badly)

Charcters - nicely written and a interesting enough but best stay with MC as does. Magic/cultivation.- Really nicely done and thought out it's even original way done which in self is nice and rare touch. Story. = Most time exciting fun and interesting read keeps you wanting more and it's not predictable which is always nice and good to read. (As lot offers after while get same old same old and very predictable.)

Only bad thing at this time is awating for next chapter as can be awhile unfortunately.

After reading to chapter 1251+ got say disgusted with MC and how he treats and thinks of women it's voil and rapy add in stalker. He things of them as property he owns and can do with as he pleases and them having no choice. (Something seriously wrong with author of this if this is how he thinks.)

Why drop star vote to 2-3 instead too score was 4 to 5 max. <<less

What to say about this thing... It can't even be categorized in the same realm of the successful Cnovels.

It's just plain terrible. I don't understand how the translators have the commitment to go through the chapters disguised as torture devices.

First of all, I don't really care if the novel is following common plot devices. A good author is the kind of person that is able to rebuild a old cliche into something refreshing... Or at least make it believable.

The beginning was not good. The MC is an a**hole, I don't... more>> feel it's strange that so many people hate him or look down on him. Reading his povs made me hate him. His actions do not make sense. Not only that but it feels like the author is trying to brainwashing us into believing that he is the real underdog.

Like, no. He is not an underdog. In the current world he lives there is no reason to hide his talents, when the Mu family won't even see him as a threat despite his magic power- which he just had awoken. If the MC is so dumb, please don't put much faith in the IQ level of the other characters.

Dropped at 20 characters. I'm not going to rate this novel for the sake of the translators but consider yourself warned. <<less

DICLAIMER: I DONT WANNA BAD MOUTH THE AUTHOR THAT WROTE THIS BECAUSE HE WROTE IT WITH A LOT OF INTERESTING IDEAS AND TROUBLE
Disappointed with this light novel even though its my first review I'm so disappointed the anime was good even though the fights where a... more>> little unrealistic (it was slow to hit the monsters fall after 3 seconds of waiting) but the light novel just ruined everything the anime was good and even though it wasn't translated by prof. Translator and it was fansubbed I wanna say the light novel was s*upid af the plot is slow there was no titles what so ever that I couldn't find where is the continuation after the anime was well this light novel goes straight to the garbage

  • *There was bad plot
  • *Slow pace (that I dislike)
  • Its different than the rest magic/fantasy novels that are send to another world after death and get op skills or abilities but why would you need magic in the 21st century ? e.g 10 fireballs are 1 anti tank missile like bro
  • The main character in my opinion was weak af there was no op magician at the start and even if he progress fast I like main characters that turn the tables around with the rage inside them and awaken mighty powers even though he got lighting so? what lighting ? get ice and freeze humans they will suffocate... thats why I think lighting is weak except its penetrating powers and ice well ice got ruined if its only for sealing why cant a monster suffocate lol god thats normal humans animals plants need oxygen to survive... lighting is only for attacking main character is weak to defense

Pretty good story at the latest read chapter of 40. It's like a xianxia with limited (fixed) cultivation in a 'modern' setting, where magicians (cultivators) have a star (single element) they can cultivate in order to grow in strength (physical and magical) and use more advanced magic within their cultivated element. Currently not much more than this is explained in the way of the magicians, so it can be hard to grasp what the actual pinnacle of strength is.
The protagonist does get away with just a bit too much in terms of his arrogance due to the world being set up with a protection for the younger generations, and strength is more or less equal to time cultivated (and talent, but mostly time cultivated), which seems to be the defining trait of magical strength. In other words, the MC is too arrogant for his strength and he isn't being directly tested (combat) yet, so he is in a way being let to run loose.

Spoiler

No real combat, not counting him trying elementary magic on some 'bullies' in Chapter 16'ish, but it should pick up in the next couple of chapters as it is set up for them to gain combat experience.

[collapse]
It does contain some weird expressions (Cursing and internet slang) which also takes getting used to if you expect it to be similar to a xianxia.

TL:DR: Nice 'modern' setting world, but MC isn't properly tested in terms of his strength so it feels a bit unbalanced.

I am not gonna bullsh*t you and tell you the story is perfect but please hear me out for a quick second

Anyone who read past 2k chapters wrote a good review and anyone who dropped it at 200-300 chapters always says the same f*cking thing and its so annoying

1. The MC is shameless.... OF COURSE HE IS ITS IN THE f*ckING TAGS YOU IDIOTS 'SHAMELESS MC' ARE YOU BLIND?

2. The Plot is generic/simple... ahhahaahahah anyone who read the story can see that behind all the happy go lucky chapters is... more>> a society so f*cked up and a world on the verge of breaking down because of all of its flaws that the show is more often so dark that l have to take a break and look out the window to calm myself down... You don't believe me? Okay let me give you an example... The first real 'Arc' we get is Mo Fan's city getting f*cking razed to the ground by the Monsters.... Later on at the Ancient Capital arc we learn that His city getting destroyed was just a TEST RUN for the real thing happening at the Ancient Capital by the organization which is the driving point of hatred for Mo Fan for most of the story... How s*upid does anyone have to be to say this story is simple? which story out there does its TEST RUN on a the MC's home city? This was just one example out of MANY... One thing l learned in this story is that everything has a purpose... every line every paragraph can come and bite you in the ass if you think for a second its not relevant.

3. For the final thing l would like to talk about the 'ROMANCE SUBPLOT' and the whole science goes poof poof in the comments here. The romance in SET from the beginning by the author telling us about his love for both girls and as the story goes on this proves to be very nice and sweet since he would do anything for the person he loves.. For Xinxia he fought a whole organization for Xuexue he fought her whole clan and was there for her when she at her lowest... the romance is slow but not because the author forgets about them, its because everyone has their own path and they only meet when they happen to be in the same country or place... but when they do meet you can always feel his love for them and theirs for him.

3.5 The side-characters are vary interesting if you ask me... One of Mo Fan's very few friends trough the whole story is a rich good looking blonde playboy who was very lazy in practicing magic when he was first introduced... but as he spent more time with Mo Fan and experienced the world he slowly changed for the better... He is still a rich good looking blonde playboy but now he is also so much more than that and the same goes for other people as well.
The lightning guy who one of the review's here mentioned who had his whole family killed and later tranfsormed into a monster and killed his own girlfriend is actually a classmate of Mo Fan and he got killed by the black vatican because he found out their base in one of the cities... And not because of Mo Fan like that guy said in his review.

4. Science turned into magic... pretty hard for anyone to accept but you have to understand the principle of this world first... he didn't transfer into another world... No he got transported into a PARALEL WORLD in which SCIENCE dosent exsist in the first place its simply like a mith... They didn't forget science for them it simply didn't exist in the first place and while that is BS its still much better then what most novels do for their plot.

Overall l would rate this novel a 9/10 (-This only applies for those who read 2k+ chapters)

9/10 World Building
8/10 MC
7/10 Side Characters

10/10 Plot
9/10 Writing
10/10 Fights
8/10 Villains (Early villains are very cliche but the more you read the more f*cked up and better the villains get) <<less

A tr*sh story without a soul, there no goal other than learning magic. The magic system itself is so s*upid, there's no creativity whatsoever, a linear skillset depending on the element and level. Even a game has more freedom in skill choice. Fighting even more boring, just like those s*upid games for children with turns in casting, and the author has to make the MC the last caster even when people could die just so he gets all the limelight. It's just so s*upid.

The star magic system seemed a creative... more>> idea but it rapidly fell into a boring monotonous way of cultivation, we don't even know the higher levels of cultivation, other than intermediate and advanced levels up until 88 chaps.

The MC character isn't too bad, but I can say it's almost the only recognizable one, the others are only your typical 1D characters.

Really, a waste of time. <<less

Story is so-so. Neither hate it or love it. It's good enough that I read to the last xlated chapter. The raws might be better as I thought the translation sucks. Lots of typos, badly translated sentences and probably additional things added by xlaters/editors that are just s*upid.

Be prepared for lots of plot armor. The MC survived not because he is intelligent, but just lucky... cause plot armor. Also MC is not all that likeable. He's a selfish bastard, pretend to be high and mighty, but in the end only... more>> care about self. Perhaps it is just a reflection of the author's personality. In any case, I do not like MC.

I am seriously debating whether I want to continue reading via raws or not. Probably will drop it for now, and come back when I am bored.

2019/12/26 - I have time during holiday so starting reading raws. MC does not improve even at c900. Still s*upid, idiot. MC survived and get more powerful due to other characters helping or plot armor. I am still reading cause I've caught up with all the others I am reading, so nothing else to do at moment. LOL. <<less

This novel pretends to be much more than it is (and it does a reasonable job of doing it too by relying on story beats which aren't commonly used by the shounen genre, specifically tragedy as a driver (at least to the point where you can reasonably expect every major arc to get rid of at least 1 named character).) This causes the reader to quickly get emotionally attached and probably get fooled into the details of the storyline without thinking about whether the larger world actually works.

By the point... more>> of the story I'm reading, MC has handled at least 5 separate major events, all of which have the ability of wiping out at least a single city. All of them have long term ramifications, but aside from the MC working personally on these projects, we're shown no action from any government body at all despite being told repeatedly they exist and perhaps more vapidly, his talents have been leaked to the general populace but somehow even higher ups don't seem to know who he is when he shows up. Do these people just flat out not pay attention to something as prominent as "Top 5 talents in the entire student pool of universities" despite being a lecturer and knowing that student came from your institution? Even if the lecturer didn't know, are we expected to believe that "old families" which we're consistently told have a huge advantage over common students didn't spend at least SOME time researching who this dude is?

It's hard to believe which brings me to my major problem with this novel as a whole. The entire world revolves around the MC and nothing actually progresses if it doesn't involve him. In the last arc that I read, he discovers the existence of a potential threat to the entirety of humanity and for almost the entire arc, he flat out says he cannot call in support because there's not enough evidence. By the time he GETS said evidence, he goes on personal revenge quest and does not inform the relevant authorities. Which makes me wonder whether those authorities even know if the threat exists at all at this point and whether they are taking more care to check on the threat.

On top of this, we're led away from caring that the world doesn't work by the author piling up dozens of potential storyline arcs in advance and not pulling the gun on them, It's not quite at the level of Reincarnation of the Strongest Sword God where there are probably 20+ major plot events going on at any given time but there's always at least 3-4 strings which are just left in the background to rot until the author feels like pulling on them, Probably 200-300 chapters later, minor spoiler for Bo City
Spoiler

Even up to the point I've read, I still have no idea why the black vatican messed with Bo city beyond needing the holy spring for a ritual of some kind (and this was learned back in chapter... 150-ish? meaning there's been no real movement on this side for 300 chapters more or less)

[collapse]
, which just irritates me because I'm left reading new arcs that I feel don't require a resolution as quickly as the earlier ones. Put simply, author knows that those plot points are interesting and a good way to force people to keep reading, whereas I'm just bored of pointless "sidequest"-like arcs that don't provide anything to the overall narrative beyond adding more named characters to be used "tragically" to keep readers interested.

There's some interesting storyline ideas here, I just wish the style isn't one interesting storyline every 100 chapters or so once the initial storybuilding is setup (which as an aside flows really well and is fantastic imo. Once he leaves the initial city, the story stops being interesting.) <<less

A great novel like many that gets overlooked very easily due to starting up slow. Has some bad reviews, but I can guarantee those talking about the elemental system of magic aren't worth listening to.

Spoiler

There is a elemental system to the magic and the type that is the most popular is lightning. And not all magic is viewed as equal/balanced at the start and will only balance out on the higher tiers. Lightning is viewed as domineering because it's extremely fast, can bypass magic defense items, and paralyzes the enemy, thus making lightning mages very much sought out by monster hunters. Lightning is also very rare (You can't just study and learn a element, requiring great resources to purposely awaken a desired element), so any mage who can use lightning can write their own ticket in life, being able to join strong teams and clans even at the most basic level of skill.

Fire is also another popular element as it has high destructive power. And as to why Fire would be desired more than water even with its bad affinity with Water is because at the low tier stage of magic besides lightning, fire is the only other element with strong options at damaging your enemy.

And light element can't heal as one review tries to suggest. It has no offense abilities at low tier, only support. Healing is White Element.

Water and Ice being separate elements is fine and isn't rare in novels and games. Water is defense based while ice has a lot of versatility.

So bad... I hate stories where there are ranking of elements, and don't explain why they're bad, besides that power is ferocious and blah blah blah. So far the people who got water and light element are jokingly saying that they're going to commit su*cide and that they wished they had the fire element. Like wtf? Can't water beat fire? And usually light element users can heal; making them valuable. Anyways I hate the world in this novel, makes no sense to me.

My god, what a waste of time.. The rewritten first chapter makes hope, but very quickly the story deteriorates to your typical bullsh*t MC chinese revenge clown show. After a few chapters you learn that ... more>>
Spoiler

the poor, bullied MC actually used to bully people a lot, harbors sense-less grudges because of his low social standing, has the "best girl in town" be at his call -actually started the romance sub-plot during his childhood-days, has the hottest female teacher stand up for him, manages to disregard the face of the biggest big-shot of the best family -and the big-shot actually reacts to the provocations of a 18-years old child-, and has op-powers and artifacts

[collapse]
. Summarizing I find the novel very childish and the characters very one-dimensional. Coupled with OPness and predictable plot I cant give this more than 2*, and the 2nd one is only because of the few interesting magical-world/science-world comparisons in the first chapter (s). <<less

This story has many original elements that support it.

A unique cultivation system.

Events that occur don't follow the same old script that ever other story follows. There at least is unique plots.

Also, there is some decent political espionage later in the story.

Just the originality behind much of this story makes it a worthwhile read.

Quanzhi Fashi is a slow-moving novel corresponding to the 2016 anime (of course, some small details in the anime are omitted). On the other hand, an alternate world where magic has replaced science and things like firearms don't exist, as well as Oil and other existing energy sources.

The novel is very slow in terms of character relationships, there are just very boring chapters, but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the work. Approximately from Chapter 28, the main character begins to reveal their abilities and show character.

MK is an... more>> ordinary guy who got from the ordinary world to the world of magic, he is a genius, but not in terms of his strong intellect, but in terms of magical abilities. It will raise the streamers in the local hierarchy of power.

There are female characters, but they are secondary and not visible. His class teacher stands out slightly, but that's all.

The structure of the world is intertwined with such aspects as social inequality and the concealment of abilities and artifacts. Hidden abilities saved the hero several times in the most difficult situations. After all, if your family is not rich, it is difficult and dangerous to show your strength, because envy, anger and arrogance do not go far from the life of MK.

Work with all its advantages (it is the battle and the ability of the character, not the author's bad moves with hiding abilities) and disadvantages (described above) looks good.I have to Supplement my review with negative notes of my disappointment about the ending of the story. Many enemies of the main character, and remained undefeated, many characters are forgotten, the harem of the main character is not impressed at all (without an emotional childhood friend and sister who did not Shine with personal qualities or intelligence). Such interesting characters as the teacher and the former Saint are discarded as garbage (with the Holy MC all the time asked to be or not to be that's the question, the answer to which is simply not there). The most cunning enemies of all history are killed simply and s*upidly and even the MC does not participate, and in General it is not interesting to merge them, the red devil generally killed himself. Many topics and secrets were not revealed (who gave the MC totem, the multiplicity of worlds and the connection with the world of science, the very essence of the existence of the devil (the evil king) and the fate of his predecessor, these and many other unanswered questions). The author decided to finish everything quickly, apparently he was tired of this work, so he ruined everything that he could. An unpleasant residue remained from reading the story, it was possible, though cliched, but it is better to write. Rating 3.7.

This is my opinion, but everyone decides for themselves.

The Story is promising but the author approach to most characters are a little bit a mess. For example some chapter are wasted to random characters and sometimes a chapter is just complete no sense at all..

MC is good but his potential was limited or hidden to a point that most people rejected him. I don't know if the author is thinking of making MC op to slap the arrogant characters but so far I can't see this in the story. To much plot twist? Not really its rather simple... more>> and dull

20 chapters I read so far so my review is base from this as such I am hoping that this story potential well bloom in the future

I just hope the author won't focus to much to sideline characters its like reading side story which has no worth to the main story. <<less

It's fine. Not amazing, not awful. I do want to say though the author has an irritating habit of making constant crises in the later chapters, and it gets annoying. If one is resolved, it either leads immediately into another or there would already have been one going on already.

You may think that sounds like typical chinese novels what with the "disciples master's master's master takes revenge for the master's master" trope. But that's not what this is. These are full on crises. The MC has no hope of personally... more>> resolving them and generally just plays a small role. It feels like reading one specific line from Red Vs Blue:

"It was definitely nuclear weapons, that's what did it. And the explosions caused massive power outages which caused the failsafe to fail, which released a super bacteria from a secret lab. A handful of gritty survivors from all walks of life were able to keep the legions of the infected radioactive undead at bay, using only their wits, and an inexplicable comprehension of agricultural science and engineering. Everything was looking good... and that's when the meteor hit." -Griff, with two Fs

It means that the world is constantly in too much peril to have stuff like character development and relationships; instead it's just nonstop action. <<less
