Chen Yan travels between worlds, ending up becoming an honorable prince in a medieval fantasy world. Yet this world was not quite as simple as he thought. Witches with magical powers abound, and fearsome wars between churches and kingdoms rage throughout the land.

Roland, a prince regarded as hopeless by his own father and assigned to the worst fief, spends his time developing a poor and backward town into a strong and modern city, while fighting against his siblings for the throne and absolute control over the kingdom. Join Roland as he befriends and allies with witches and, through fighting and even farming, pushes back invaders coming from the realm of evil.

it's my first review.

just amazing.... what do u need to say ? nothing more!! ;)

one of the best light novel I've ever read.

Incredible fusion between real knowledge, with in depth explanation, and fantasy world. It's really logical, either the MC choices, either the powers, the atmosphere, the interpersonal interactions!! It's a really well built world, with interesting fantasy elements like witches' powers and fascinating events.

An excellent Chinese novel. (Good) Japanese LNs suit my taste. I also read KR/CN novels time to time. But never a novel became my favourite. This one is an exception. The translation quality is the only thing I am worried about but as long as I understand the gist of the story it is fine for me.

It is also the first novel I am following day to day. I am the type of person who reads novels after a bunch of chapters Coe out. But this one I am reading... more>> the 2 chapters coming out everyday just because it is too good.

The MC is intelligent, kind and likeable. Though he looks like hypocritical Japanese protagonist when it comes to witches. The other characters are also well explained and given a lot of time unlike many other Chinese novels. The world building is good and not so huge (like planets, universe, etc.) as of now which is perfect.

I recommend everyone to read this novel <<less

For once we have a real story.

In typical Chinese LN it's all about cultivation. The MC roams the world to get stronger and completely forget his home. He is surrounded by beautiful women who loves him but he just doesn't seem to be interested in s*x.

In RTW, there are no cultivation but it's alright. The MC's goal is to survive and everything he does is for that goal. If he doesn't get enough power he will die. He is a prince so he is immersed in the political game, showing... more>> weakness means dying. You'll never question him about what he does because it makes sense in his plan.

The real ennemies will gradually come to light and it makes things better than just get ennemy because the other party lost face. The MC mainly builds his nation by beginning in a backwater town. He improves his home little by little to resist his ennemies so he doesn't travel far to get strong. It means characters stay important for a long time. He doesn't leave his friends behind because he became too powerful and they are useless. If you like a character he won't disappear after 100 chapters unless he dies.

Side characters are extremely important and aren't just decorations.

There is a real love story. Things progress way beyond just knowing they like each other.

The MC is well constructed. He knows a lot about science because of his past but not all. He is familiar with military, politics and other stuffs thanks to movies and general knowledge so appart from having a fresh point on view in these things, it's clear he is not an expert.

The only thing that differs from middle age is the witches. It brings an interest tool to the MC because even if he knows how to do things, he can do them because he doesn't have the modern tools he knows. Sure he can create them but it will take him years to do that. Magic helps to accelerate things.

I recommend greatly to read this story. <<less

Pros:
Its your typical world building novel which tries to do everything perfectly and logically.

Many people tend to complain on how the MC has infinite knowledge. Well I disagree with them. As an engineer myself I can attest that a lot of those things are indeed taught to us either in school or early science classes. As to his town building and ruling skills, those can be in all honesty be ignored. I mean certain people can indeed be talented in leading people. As for his weaponry knowledge: its not difficult to that much knowledge in those aspects. I have had friends who were interested in military so time looking at these stuff instead of random youtube videos. Interest in weaponry + interest in chemistry (necessary to enter an engineering college) and you can have a person equally as good as our MC.

Cons:
The author tries to do everything perfectly and logically that a lot of the time is spent just explaining that and very little interesting stuff happens. Like I don't want a normal town building story about a futuristic person sent in the past. Do something. Show some action. Some plotline. Its been 380 chapters and still it feels like the plot hasnt been started.

The story is very well paced, the overall idea is pretty good, and I can see the well-planned arcs making this a very long lived story, which is awesome.

Why is there a harem tag? This is definitely not a harem.

Spoiler

At most there are two main girls who are in love with the MC. The other witches like the MC as a person and leader, and not as a romantic partner. Although one point/cheat they have been pointing that is not very realistic is that the MC has insanely good memory, which is very weird. I am a relatively fresh (NORMAL AND AVERAGE) engineering graduate and I believe I speak for much of the engineering graduates when I say that most of college lessons not applied in our work (especially basic chemistry) are not remembered by us, atleast not as good as the MC.

I agree with the positive reviews below me, although there is no perfect story and because I am sure there will be critics for everything in this world no matter how big or small things are, but the high rating (number 1 ranking in novel updates for months now!!) and the positive comments speak for the novel. In the end, it is up to the individual if you like the novel. BUT IN MY HONEST OPINION, THIS IS A VERY GOOD ONE. The writing, the story and the character POVs are all better than many light novels these days. With this, I say have fun fellow readers! <<less

It get's boring as the story goes on. Especially with the army part. Only the politics, religion, and the romance is making the story bearable to read. Of course, if you guys think otherwise it is not wrong as well. I can totally see which parts that makes this story good. I guess it's just doesn't stick to my taste. Still, its quite the novel and can get spicy in some moments. I'll suggest to read at least 100 chapter a week then, read other novel first so you will... more>> be intrigued by the plot of the story when you read it again. <<less

I wrote this review without touching the complicated parts of the story.

Release that Witch is one best Kingdom Building I read, but if I'll be general, its not the best of all. The Kingdom Building here is good to read, and there's so many things to look forward. The MC also didn't become arrogant which is common in CN WN. The different perspective of many characters makes the story and storytelling really interesting. As new characters are introduce, it adds a new things to look forward, same when there's a... more>> new goal. What I like here is I can see the results of our MC's in kingdom building

Release that Witch also has a different approach of storytelling than the other novels I read, it's like using a tv drama kind of story telling. You will be annoyed as each chapter changes focus frequently. If I will draw it's story line in line, it will be a wavy line. The amount of knowledge the MC have, is also a bit bothering, but let's just let it pass and tell ourselves this is fantasy. Speaking of fantasy, its level here is really low as our MC tries to modernized the world.

This is fun to read because of the development, you know that you have something to look forward, that's why even though it's a bit boring type fantasy, it will not be like that when you read it.

My favorite thing about this story is the world building as the story unfolds through many narratives. Highly recommended with its mix of magic, planning and development, intrigue, conspiracy, and romance.

All in all, one of the best reads i've been doing.

I really like how the story is writen, they pay a lot of atention to scientifical stuff that I really don't understand about and also makes the main character (at the same time that is kinda op) not god-like, since he doesn't have an infinite-cheat-hack-memory.

The political stuff is also really cool, although as it shows what the other party is thinking, I more than often don't get the suspense thinking if something the MC thought of is going to work... more>> or not. <<less

<May contain minor spoilers>

After reading dozens of cultivation novels, I kinda found it hard to continue. I thought I might not encounter any web-novel that would pique my interest anytime soon. But all that changed when I started reading RTW.

It's refreshing and welcome relief from hard-core cultivation novels. Contrary to popular opinion, the story has a lot of flaws. For example, some people might get annoyed with the fact that despite having just a office mechanical engineering job in previous life, our MC all of sudden becomes chemist, biologist, civil... more>> engineer, mechanical engineer and aerospace engineer and start pulling one invention after another like revolver, air-balloon, microscope etc. For fun.

But when I rate the story, I rate it based on how good it is compared to rest of the web-novels. For example I rated ISSTH five stars despite MC taking a deep breath, looking coolly or his eyes glittering at every other sentence. All this considered, this story is definitely the step in the right direction for evolution of web-novels and will hopefully inspire future authors to think outside of the box. <<less

Wow! Seriously.

I found the Chinese twin of Eric Flint of the 1632 series.

If you loved the 1632 series by Eric Flint, you will MOST likely love this series as well. Modern man seeks to rebuild a modern world in medieval times. He starts small and works his way up the tech ladder. His only cheat is that is that his he smart, resourceful and driven. And he is willing to earn the loyalty of people with super powers to help his tech ladder grow faster.

They say throughout the world there... more>> is a twin for you. This twin is Eric Flint's.

The world building is top notch. The tech building is paced nicely. NO sudden OPness off the bat. The characters, all major and minor have role. Nothing is left to chance. All build up a superb story that leaves me wishing this was actually just a novel I could buy to hold me over and reread in my hands.

And again, if you loved 1632, Raj Whitehall of the General series by S.M. Stirling / David Drake, or Belisarious by David Drake and Eric Flint you will LOVE this chinese web novel.

I cannot wait for more. <<less

A really good novel. It really is a good concept, different from the mainstream xianxia theme. Also, the setting and the world is very interesting, you just want to watch how an engineer transported from modern days fare in medieval times by applying his knowledge. Kind of like science vs magic. So, I put 5 stars because it's one of my favorite web novel.

Warning this is not usual aggressive Chinese novel, don't expect face pace story with OP MC that thirsty for blood.

The story more focus on how MC doing industrial revolution with witches power. For the action part there MC must do a tower defense against monster, his crazy brother and evil church. The world building is great, also POV chapter from minor characters adding story richness how MC has changed the world.

The downside why not full 5 stars is because author circumstance the story not enough romance and snu-snu, even though... more>> there a lot cute witches.

Must read for all fan of isekai and modern technology VS middle age technology. <<less

Absolutely recommended!

First thing you'll notice is that the writing style is almost completely like that of a Western fantasy novel. World is realistic, MC progresses quickly but so do others, MC is not omnipotent nor omniscient and unaware of many future dangers, world moves and acts realistically and not as if it revolves around him. Romance is slow but realistic yet hardly the reason to read this. Occasional moments of comedy and side characters receive due attention and are adequately fleshed out. All in all a great read if you... more>> don't mind the fact that the story moves a bit slowly to make sure all developments across the world receive attention. <<less

Good kingdom building fic. The MC also behaves like an actual human being which is quite rare with these Chinese novels. Its also one of the few fics where a transported character actually uses their knowledge from Earth. My biggest gripe is the introduction of gunpowder weapons. It kind of kills most of the suspense. The army of the MC is virtually unstoppable in a straight up battle as of now.

It's truly a winner this one. Would never have guessed from the title (and the picture). Thought it was some randy lad forming a kyonyu harem. I was actually forced to read it.

In terms of the economics, ruling aspects and such is well presented (IMHO second only to commons sense of a duke's daughter), it's not very subtle, to be honest, author kind of displays the general populace (excepting about a dozen or so unique characters) to be akin to livestock. But it's a fictional book, and a fantasy... more>> novel, no one cares if it isn't perfect (except me, I have issues).

What's really spectacular though, is the plot, it's full of tension, very realistic, very catchy, it's a fantasy template (what I believe) is commonly seen in more western novels, but add in the typical OP character and perfection.

Characters are a win, the romance is vanilla (that, to me, is what ruined arifutera). A beautiful story. <<less

The first time I read this novel, I was only able to read the first chapter before putting it on pause, however I feel both regret and joy - regret in having not continued reading, but joy in having eventually come back and giving the series another chance. The story is quite interesting to read because the MC is forced to completely use his brains as well as experience as a Mechanical Engineer in his past life in order to survive and develop his territory, what with seemingly only a... more>> select few people (mostly women) are capable of unleashing an incredible power (not the MC). I very much like the kingdom building aspect of this novel, as it's very interesting to read about how the MC is able to develop his territory using the power of witches to aid him, however I will admit that I find the scope of his knowledge on so many aspects (particularly his knowledge on military weaponry and equipment) a bit difficult to believe, but nonetheless it is quite an enjoyable read. Not only that but the characters are quite well written and developed, and the story still has a lot of mysteries that are yet to be uncovered, which similarly makes you want to read more. Highly recommended. <<less

It's pretty good story for me, very interesting.

I like fantasy story which include magics and for me at least, I think author successfully combine magic + old & a bit advanced world. Unlike other chinese novels too, MC didn't start massacre and become bloodthirsty beast right after MC transferred to another world, but this MC still keep his sanity and won't kill unless needed, at least until the last chapter I read. Or like in other chinese novel which MC started with weak, timid, good natured MC, but once become... more>> JUST A BIT stonger, instantly become bloodthirsty beast that started massacring everywhere, whenever, without reason just like a disgusting villain - I'm talking about brain dead chu feng from MGA of course.

Although yeah, there's some strange things like MC become KNOW IT ALL dude instantly after he reincarnated, when if he's really like that before he died, he should already become a billionaire that goes around in super car covered in diamond and he won't need to work till he dead much since he has all it needs to be a leader. But well, story doesn't have to be logical, when there's magic, there will be no logic needed. And that's precisely why I read illogical and magical story, because logic can easily be found IRL while illogical and magical things could only be found in stories.

My favorite series of all the ones I'm reading right now. The majority of the events take place in an isolated backwater, particularly in the beginning, so the world-building can happen comparatively slowly, which is a great advantage with reading in a setting such as this. It doesn't have unexplained but familiar game elements but leans more realistic (for values of realism that include magic) nor does it have an omnipotent bugged main character, rather he's about as killable as any royal, which is to say, somewhat difficult but not... more>> because of omnipotence. His main abilities are knowledge from his previous life as an engineer, and perhaps more, someone who grew up in the modern era, and the resources he has in his current life as a royal. The other characters have their own motivations and personalities.

My only complaints regard the handling of the church.

Spoiler

The reader isn't shown the good side of the church and it does far too much evil. I don't really mind the relative evil or good of the church, I just don't buy that something that is that blatant with as many information leaks as it potentially has (because of escaping witches and what not) would be able to possess that level of overt power. Especially since every witch is ultimately someone's daughter, and there are several who still accept their child as their child after she becomes a witch.. I'm not saying that they need to be any less evil (they're after all motivated by the most evil of phrases, "The ends justify the means") just that the reader should be shown a little more of why the faithful are so faithful. Standing up against monsters is not enough, after all, humans are too greedy to see such a thing as a benefit when it is actually happening far off. At least, in the long run. Plus, with all the starvation and what not it can hardly be said that the church is doing enough to overcome what should be seen as strong negatives and suspicious behaviors, such as the existence of the various pills and a superhuman army.
