Rebirth of the Thief Who Roamed The World

The world’s largest VRMMO, Conviction, was almost like a second world for humanity. It had integrated itself into the real world’s economy, with both corporations and individuals seeking their fortunes through the game.

In this game, Nie Yan prided himself on his Level 180 Thief. He could barely be considered among the top experts in the game. Though, that was the only thing he could take pride in. He was penniless and unable to advance in life; a situation he was forced into by the enemy of his father. If it weren’t for the little money he made by selling off items in Conviction, he would’ve barely been able to eat. In the end, he chose to settle his matters once and for all. He assassinated his father’s enemy. He lay dying shortly after being shot in the pursuit.

However, that wasn’t the end of his story. Instead, he awoke moments later to find that he had reincarnated into his past self. Armed with his experience and knowledge of future events, he sets out to live his life anew.

Mad Snail once again copy/paste TDG once again but this time is a VMMORPG we got the whole deal a MC name Nie, a female heroine that loves the protagonist for no reason but doesn't admit, fatty friend, rich douche guy is the villain, big breast girl likes the MC but he doesn't like her, a OP book colleting his pages, memorys from reicarnation, MC is super OP in everything even having a weak body after training for 2 days and so on.

Now why this novel isn't good even if... more>> copy TDG? Because the game sucks! The autor makes the worst sin in the game he put a gamebreaking item for the MC that would never exist in a MMORPG the pages from that book can let 1 player kill 500 players. Besides the fact of how boring questing is and how terrible is to level up the MC once kill 20 spiders 2 levels above him and only got 3% of exp on level 3. <<less

This has been on of the best computer game related novels I've read far.

Spoiler

The MC was a gamer who went back in time after he killed his greatest enemy but ended up dying and reincarnating a few years back. He is trying to save his family and make better choices of his life to defeat his enemy once more.

[collapse]

There is really nothing wrong with the novel besides those filler chapters which you can basically skip and still be able to know what's going on in the plot.

I don't really understand what is getting people so riled up with how it seems like he's having it easy with all the things he remembered in his previous life. If it were me I would see that as an advantage and would be really dumn if I don't use the knowledge I have, so I personally think that he's clever to use those advantages to his disposal. <<less

This was one of the first few web novels I really was looking forward to everyday, as it's a really nice plot and hilarious characters. But I would probably drop this if he was always in the game, but it doesn't as I like how he actually has a life outside of the game and actually prepares himself for whatever will hit him in life. And the romance really starts around chapter 240... so if you're hoping for romance to begin about 20-50, boy are you wrong! But you'll enjoy... more>> the story anyway. <<less

The setting is fairly standard for a mmorpg thing, but dear lord, the author tries his very best to make it as unbelievable as possible, especially when it comes to the finances.

Spoiler

We're told repeatedly throughout the first 100 chapters or so that several silvers is a fortune to normal players, we're further told that the mc's income is ridiculously large and as a single entity, he can control more property than other major guilds,.... yet we're told he controls 3% of the property on the server?........... Excuse me? If we're going by any other mmorpg novel, major guilds are ridiculous, have sponsorships and generally control a significant portion of power by themselves.... How the everloving **** does that make sense if MC HAS to have higher income than most of them (at one point it was said that daily income from one dungeon run is a few silvers, as opposed to 35 gold, 100 silver: 1 gold, 3500 compared to several 10's.... Yes, you could argue hey, more dungeons, EXCEPT that logic doesn't work when "experts" clearing 10 dungeons in 2 days creates an uproar. This guy needs a calculator.

[collapse]

Well.. actually, not only finances, numbers in general are a real problem with this.... balancing is kinda off as w- Look, the mmo setting is just extremely poorly planned, in fact, I'd argue it's not even planned at all. *facepalm*

This isn't even talking about how ridiculously overpowered the MC is and/or how little thievery actually happens in the novel (basically every other mmo novel I've read at least features ksing someone else's boss, this one has....... looting corpses?... at best?). Also if this was a xianxia novel with inheritances, this guy is probably on par for gaining every inheritance in the world, It wouldn't be so bad if there was some world building in between arcs of getting new op items, but it's been get new op item -> stumble across another op item -> stumble across another op item. Sprinkle in some nonsensical numbers and even more pointless interpersonal relationships and you've got this novel. I don't even know what to think about it.

There's very few redeeming qualities unless you really like reading about op MCs which is basically every xianxia novel anyway. Would suggest reading other novels with a more believable setting. Was hoping for the plot to get more interesting but so far, it's failing to deliver on that end really hard.

Edit: as of the last 50 odd chapters, the author has pretty much glossed over the economy and gone back to basically pure action. Makes for a better read, although the setting still needs a lot of work in my opinion, especially given the randomness of plot points. They were charted in advance but poorly explained and thus far... even more poorly execute. I'll up the rating to 3 stars since moving back to action makes the novel more in line with what the author is good at but there's still a lot of flaws. Most of them practically impossible to ignore. <<less

I am in love with this story. I don't know why, I've been in a mmorpg kick lately and everything I've read so far is related to gaming. Binged read LMS, ZL, Shura, and a whole lot of others. But this story just keeps me coming back.
Spoiler

I'm kind of concerned though that it takes 200 chapters and Nie Yan is not level 30 yet. His previous life was at 180, is he going to hit the cap or even reach 180 by the end of the story?

[collapse]

A+ on Nie Yan putting his advantage to use. Cannot wait to see where this goes. Wish I learned Chinese back in school, regretting it now T.T

This and Peerless White are currently my favorites. Thank you to the translators for your hard work.

Fun too read. But They are many plot holes. I give it a 4 because it's still a good read and not poorly written. The flawed logic are terrible though.

Spoiler

1) How does he remember the dates when all the patches are release in game. He was supposed to have started playing way later in his previous life. Yet he knows everything that is going to happen in the first two weeks. He seems to be able to know where all one of a kind item are located even though he never go it. Or how does he even remember the exact dates in which every new patch the VR game came out with. He even remembers all of the top players and minor top players..... In his previous life he was a small fry he should know all these not so important minor top players.
2) He trained for almost no time at all and he body just got super strong. It takes some time to go from weak to strong physically.
3) Why he doesn't try to change his friend even though his friend died in the previous life because his friend was c*cky and a play boy.
4) In the game appears you can't get the pages or chest once someone already has them. No game has that kind of game logic.
5) In one of the major combat scene he's all surrounded but somehow reinforcements can just join in, in the circle.
6) Any dropped item can be taken by anyone. Now that logic is messed up. That means you can just wait for people to kill stuff and players then steal their loot.
7) In one combat scene there are 300 players against 30 or so and they couldn't even kill their main target???

This novel is currently one of my absolute favorites. The MC is clever and effectively utilizes his knowledge of future events to start building his own empire, to both support his family and suppress his enemies from his past life. He is loyal to those who were loyal to him in his past life. If I have any complaints, it's that I would like for there to be more coverage of real life (very game focused right now).

For those who enjoy romance, there is basically no romance as of now,... more>> although there are some potential love interests. At the beginning, he does seem a bit too OP, but now more adequate challenges are arising for the MC. <<less

You will definitely love this one. From the secret quests to the crazy monsters, battling in dungeons and establishing guilds, this has it all. He uses his knowledge of the past to take advantage of the game and get far ahead in terms of establishing a future for money making. From buying property to just now starting the Union of Assassins, it is very amazing to see the MC and friends slowly stepping ahead.

Right now, MC is only level 17, and his best friend is the #1 ranked at 18.... more>> I suggest you read it for yourself if you're into novels such as this. <<less

Not bad. Guy dies killing his most hated enemy and is sent back in time to his younger self. VR gaming here is big, and he exploits this with his future knowledge to make money.

Pros for the story - the guy's cunning, and just vicious enough to be fun while still good enough to be likable. He uses his future knowledge - which is basically only about the game - to swipe legendary items and defeat ludicrously powerful enemies. Cons for the story - you hardly ever see anything from... more>> 'real life.' It's pretty close to just being a standard reincarnation fantasy novel. I suspect this will change in the future. This series is not for everyone. Everything the main character does once he's back in the past makes sense once you think about it but it makes him also look like a mary sue type character. The Game world he's in will soon become apart of their world's economy and it was how he made his living in the future that's no more, so all his knowledge of the game and his ability at it makes sense. But it makes him look like a mary sue. On top of that,... more>> his main motivation is to prevent himself and his family from getting screwed over this time and to ruin those who messed with him in the last timeline. Full of inconsistencies,

I especially hate how the MC has legendary equipment, pieces of Devine book, future knowledge and 10+ years of experience but his fatty friend becomes better than him in a lot of instances simply because of that fairy.

A single fairy gives more buffs than all of mc's skills and equipments combined.

The worldbuilding of this novel is pretty decent, you learn about the futuristic world our MC lives in, the importance of 'backing' and wealth in China, hierachies. You also see the MC dabble in auction house flipping like in Albion Online, which is fun to read. However, in my opinion, being a die-hard reader of many korean novels, the relationships aspect is pretty lacking in this chinese novel. Most scenes in the real world focus solely on building his power and only last a paragraph or 2 before getting back... more>> into the game. And even though we're told of the MC's strong brotherhood and friendship, it just doesn't feel convincing. The dialogue is lacking, characters give responses almost instantly without the feeling of the 'passing of time' as you think and consider like you would when talking to people. The author rarely gives insight into what people are thinking before they say something, so we rarely have the chance to understand them as a character. And the female lead too, while some explanation is given at the start about why our MC likes her, apart from her being a :'alluring', ' jade beauty' 'slender' woman which is mentioned almost every time the female lead appears. It gives me the impression that he's more interested in her beauty than anything with nothing else to convince me otherwise. Finally, the 'OP' factor of our main character is simply too blatant and fails to produce thrill. However, I believe that if more significant setbacks and better dialogue that helped explore our characters was put into play, I would feel much more immersed in this novel. <<less

If you are looking for a super in-depth, plot heavy novel with a complicated plot line, this is not the novel for you.

While I do admit that this novel doesn't have a unique or complicated plot, I still believe it is a nice read.

If you are in between readings and need something light hearted and easy-going I would definitely suggest reading this novel. The MC is level headed and unbelievably OP, so there's no need to worry for anything super heart wrenching because he always comes out on top. The... more>> world building is decent as well, albeit not the best.

However, I did only give is four stars. The female lead is fairly one-note and doesn't have much of a personality, so if your here for the romance I would suggest you leave. The ending also seemed rushed, so don't expect anything drawn out. There are a couple of other things but all in all it was a pretty nice read. <<less

To start off, I'm only okay when it comes to gaming novels because I feel they are a bit too repetitive. It's either constant questing or constant raiding, then item reveal. Rinse and repeat. I'm actually looking to see if the author does a good job with the real life parts of the MC. I'm estimating that 95% of the novel is about the MC doing quests and 5% doing pvp and real life events.

MC has experienced many unjust events to his life and is reborn to the past to... more>> play a VR game and to alter any bad endings to his real life. It was entertaining in the beginning to see him get stronger than the new players but it eventually gets boring as it becomes too repetitive. He's always questing so you just need to replace certain names and locations and different loots and there you have most of the novel. When POV changes to the the real world, I think the author did a pretty good job with it so I find myself skimming most chapters and looking forward to see how his life outside of the game develops. Unfortunately, those are far and few between.

In my opinion, this novel is for people who like to watch streamers play games, so they would most likely enjoy reading someone play a game. <<less

A brilliant story.

If you enjoy VRMMORPG and time regressor stories, then this is a truly great one. Five stars is too low, it deserves ten. Only complaint I have is that I read it early on, and then had to suffer through Reincarnation of the Strongest Sword God, thinking they would be the same. How naive I was.

If anything, this sets the bar too high for these genre's. And so, for those of you who loved this series, I will suggest a few equally good ones to keep you going:

Rise... more>> of the Undead Legion, Battle of Ascension, Solo Leveling, Everyone Else is a Returnee, Kill the Hero, Overlord of Blood and Iron, Arifureta, Hail the King, I came back and Conquered it all.

Tentatively I would add My Vampire System and The Supreme Magus too, but as they are unfinished, I can't confirm the endings are five star quality.

You will not regret this read. <<less

4.5 stars.

Despite some of the low rating reviews, I found this one immensely enjoyable. It must be up to certain preferences.

While the book was not hundred percent perfect, it was not awful, rather I liked it very much.

The author had put much effort in constructing the story, the different elements of the gaming world, and its parallel against the real world.

It was all very well connected and in my opinion, this is a satisfying read.

"Reincarnated as a high schooler playing WOW"

Overall I really liked this series, it has very noticeable faults but leaves a good impression. I never found myself deeply immersed but wanted to keep reading due to the fun I was having,

The MC is cool, maybe typical but I felt it was done well. Lots of the supporting cast is done well and only suffers from slight ballooning, I liked the FL (and have memorized how her b**bs look since it was brought up 50 times). The world borrows from popular... more>> MMO's so it's easy to understand. A simple change, having the MMO take place at night is ingenious and allows for us to have more out of game interactions. None of this is revolutionary but they all add to the story.

What's done wrong is very noticeable. The villains are on cartoonish levels and most have the reasoning of a 13yr old. Sometimes the MC will have conditions on him that make it impossible to die (so you know he can't). The author's writing style frequently repeats information and uses the same phrases over and over. He also constantly changes scope which was jarring till I just stopped caring. Chinese chauvinism, if you consider that a fault (Some of it was wack). Though the s*x scenes were pretty well done ngl.

My final judgement would be to call this a time-burner novel. It's a fun read and never once was I bored but I would recommend other tighter written stories. On an unrelate note, I feel the author VASTLY underestimates the competency of MMO players. <<less

ok so. This novel although it does have some plot holes and the author does forget the "stats" he has given to the characters, this novel was still a very fun read. Sure it doesn't make sense that guild's have thousands of players, but was it fun envisioning huge armies shoot FireBall at one another, or thief's managing to get behind enemy line and assassinate the support teams.
