MC is like smart and strong and independent. This is one of my favorite novels although the MC is a bit dense but its super funny and cute to read the interactions between ML and MC. Unlike most transmigration novels which their family abandons them. This one is where the family loves and adores her and she is trying to help the family instead of the typical getting revenge on the family.

The romance is basically non existent even after 1000 chapters. In fact the MC just now begins to feel something for the "male protagonist", but not romantically. The fact that each chapter is like 1/3 length of a normal wuxia novel chapter means that 1000 chapters in this novel is really just about 300 chapters worth of content, so there's not really a lot of stuff going on.

I give this novel a 5/5 as that's just my personal taste but there's really no development going on. The MC stays the... more>> same from chapter 1 till the latest translation and all we are getting are the same villain but introduced as a new character. <<less

Finally caught up to latest translation after a wk of speed reading.

Story is the typical OP female dies & soul takes over a tr*sh person's body then 'conquers the world'

Chapters are short and writing is easy to read, quite a bit of humor always makes things fun. MEH!!!

... more>> Story arcs generally follow the same formula (MC underestimated & hated at the start->overturns opinion at the end)

But the escalation of each arc keeps me engaged (the main villain in each arc definitely dwarfs the last)

Can't wait for the current arc to be translated, from the title of the raws I have seen, it definitely is the saddest one so far.

I do hope for more character development for her companions though, would like to know more about them besides their initial backstory. <<less

I've been reading this novel for a while and decided I felt strongly enough about this novel that I'm willing to write a review. While other reviews give a high or low ranking according to their personal preferences, I will do my best to give an objective view on the traits of this novel.

Protagonist 9/10: The protagonist is powerful in an intelligent way. Many similarly themed wuxia novels have a protagonist who is a genius at cultivation, suddenly becoming way more powerful than others, training at speeds unusual for their... more>> world, and overpowering everyone else with strength. Jun Wu Xie (this MC), while powerful for her age, is usually at a disadvantaged situation and instead overcomes most situations with outstanding intellect. She returns ill-will with ruthless schemes, kindness with unwavering loyalty. She has a firm sense of duty and is extremely filial to family. Indeed, she may be less charismatic than many other MC's, but there is backstory given on why she is socially withdrawn to others. However, it is this aloof character that makes interactions with those interested in her amusing. If you like strongly intellectual, cool beauty, naive-to-affection female MCs, you will like Jun Wu Xie. I would say she is a near perfect example of this archetype.
With this in mind, if your expectations for an MC are otherwise, you would likely rate it lower.

Supporting cast 8/10: The supporting cast is solid, though not necessarily impressive. A common trait in other wuxia novels is the extreme arrogance of villain characters that are thin-skinned and severely underestimate the MC. This novel does not choose to use those kinds of fodder characters, instead going for schemer characters that fight for practical gain, rather than pride. As such, there are points where the opposition is willing to negotiate rather than fight to the death, which makes them more interesting. There is a good variety of allied characters, ranging from comic relief (though competent) to somewhat competent (though compared to the MC, are lacking), to mischievous and mysterious (the main romantic interest). If you like a wide variety of characters, you'll be happy with the cast. I did dock a couple points because none of the side characters have fully developed backstories. A perfect score would require at least some of the important characters to have substantial development in either plot or character throughout the story.

Story/Plot 9/10: The premise is simple. MC wants to use her intellect to live a quiet life and protect her family. Unfortunately people keep coming to make life difficulty. Reviewers complaining about the poor development of the story are missing this point. The goal of the MC isn't to conquer the world and become the most powerful in the universe, her goal is to remove threats to her family. It just so happens that she's conquering the world as she goes. If you like an open world adventure, you will like this story more than if you're looking for a single-minded protagonist laser focused on "getting stronger". I docked a point in that the transitions between later arcs are rather jarring or forced, leading to encounters that seem artificial or "filler-ish". At the time of the writing of this review, the story is currently detouring from several foreshadowed developments that haven't been revisited.

Overall 9.5/10: The story is well written and generally easy to read. The novel isn't loaded with tremendous of dense information, and there are few if any terms that are need to be preserved to keep the flavor of the story (for those who dislike reading footnotes to know what daren, dajie, gongzi, etc. Mean). In fact, if you were to swap out all the names for natively English names, you could miss that it was a Chinese novel. If you're simply here for an entertaining read about a story driven by a cunning, underestimated female lead, you would enjoy this novel. <<less

Usually my problems with stories like these is that the MC gets screwed with at every given moment, or that every character that isn't the male lead jerks that are out to kill her, or that the romance scenes tend to drag on forever with a lot of flowery dialogue.

But this series doesn't have those problems. MC is capable, ruthless, likable, and intelligent, lot of likable side characters, love interest is there and powerful but doesn't take over the series (in fact he's mostly off to the side), and even... more>> though the chapters are short the arcs don't feel like they drag on forever or adding arcs just to torment the MC. <<less

Ignoring the plagiarism, it's still pretty good, the caracters are interesting, especialy our "silent type low eq" heroine, which, while far from being an unique character is still pretty unusual. My problem is the love interest, and while as a male I find awkward every kind of romance from a female prospetive, usualy I am able to bear it, and in some case even enjoy it, I really hate it in this novel, for how forcefull the love interest it. How forcefull? It takes literally 30 sentences betwen the MC and him, so 15 each, before he forcefully undress her while she was incapacitated. Ah, btw, two thirds of those sentencens where when he thretened to kill her family if he does not allow him to live with her.

Good but not quite good. You know what I mean.

I love all characters especially those plant ring spirits that’s why I’m MAD because the author didn’t give them JUSTICE!!!!!

Spoiler

I remember the importance of hiding plant ring spirits from middle and upper realm from the start of this novel however 2000+ chapters, there’s still NO SIGNIFICANCE to those 2 realms regarding these plant ring spirits. I mean on the first few arcs, the power of these plant spirits are good esp with their own unique abilities than beast and weapon ring spirits. This is a waste of a good scenario/combat wherein, these ring spirits can be a good weapon as we can see from Blood Velvet actions. ARGHH!!!

I love everything about this novel!!!

The FL maybe genius in medicine but doesn't mean she's Op in the beginning. And I love that kind of story, and I love how they introduce a lot of character and it doesn't only tells about the story of the FL but every characters has their own stories that has been discussed. The brainstorming and kind of thinking you need to do because it will make you hook up and interested on every step and action, tactics the author made.

Should have been titled "Ruthless Doctor: Tyrant".

Although MC is OP that she is an ethereal beauty, genius, came from powerful family, protected by powerful spirit (?) and ML, I don't have a problem with it.

The problem is, the story flow strangely.

Spoiler

For example, her family "suddenly" is in trouble, somehow she is able to turn it over into opportunity and make it seems like it was her plan all along. But we never see her planning at all.

She caught several official and executed them in public "before" announcing their crime, make it "kill first, then justify". At this point, she is not anti hero but straight antagonist in my mind.

Also, when she act, her allies wouldn't do anything except thinking how beautiful, powerful she is. Even her opponent can only accept what's done to them without much fight.

[collapse]

While it's not uncommon in story with OP character, the lack of personality of each character, the lack of description on how we arrive in certain situation, make MC seems to pull plot armor each time facing crisis. <<less

I can't believe that I could last 3000++ chapters without being bored from the beginning till the end. The story successfully got me hooked and even made me got sleepless night for so many days just so I could finish it as soon as possible.

MC wasn't a dull character. She grew from being a cold and emotionless woman to be capable of loving and caring someone. She also found herself loyal companions who fought with her side by side for years. And she also fell in love for the first... more>> time after being confused by her own feeling because it felt foreign to her. Although she's a bit OP, MC still didn't have it easy. When she managed to gain a new strength, she found that there were always stronger enemies and sometimes she got defeated until she was almost died. But all those defeats instead motivated her to become stronger until she's trully be the strongest of them all.

ML was also a bit OP. He seemed to have another story but I think I have to read it in "The Good for Nothing Seventh Young Lady". In more than half of the story, ML always protected MC and came to rescue in the critical time but after ML was caught by the enemy, MC started to protect him instead.

The ending was quite satisfying. Many side characters got their happy ending but of unfortunately not all were mentioned by the author.

Spoiler
    • Mo Qian Yuan, MC's first ally, who secretly fell in love with her, wasn't mentioned in the end. I really hope that this poor boy could be happy with someone else (maybe with Bai Xin Yu) but sadly the author seemed to forget about him.
    • Fei Yan and Rong Ruo were mentioned but still there was no progress about their relationship. I don't know if they ended up together (regardless of Rong Ruo's gender) or they kept a platonic relationship. I just feel a bit pity for Fei Yan's many years of unrequited love.
    • Bai Mo also gone MIA after MC and ML saved the world and had their own child. ML forcefully made Bai Mo acknowledged him as his father but in the end he was forgotten by ML. Poor Bai Mo.
    • The author also seemed to forget about Zheng Weilong. Although she wasn't MC's ally for a long time, I still love her cleverness. I wish she could end up with one of MC's best friend (I personally think that she was a good match for Fan Zhuo) but unfortunately, she was also forgotten in the end.
    • What about Spirit Jade Palace Lord? Yue Yi? Little Jue?

Our heroine is the perfect combination of brawn and brains. She dealt with her enemies with an iron fist and is able to make intricate plans for her vengeance which is satisfying to read. So far, I also commend the ML. He always allow our heroine to fight her battles but is also beside her if she needs support.

Also, the side characters were well developed and their were alot of scenes that were heart rending.

Kudos to the author for this engaging novel.

I gave it a four. All because everytime the FL reached a life threatening ending in her plans, she is always saved by the ML. It was annoying because she is perceived as independent but everytime she's in a pinch, her god like backer will appear.

Spoiler

The real setback that I can acknowledge is when ML is forced to be taken away for the sake of FL's safety which allows her at last to grow independently. (Tho she has the dark regime as a backing which came from ML too lol)

[collapse]

But aside from that, there are tear jerking moments. And I like how these came from the side characters.

Spoiler

Like how Qiao Chu begged for FL to return with them or the acceptance of fei yan for rong ruo's gender or the unrequited love of Qin Song or the obsession of Meng Qiu to spirit tree. (I love them)

[collapse]

I'm greatly touched by these moments so the story is really not that bad. It's just that, instead of getting attached to FL and ML, you will found yourself getting attached to side characters lol <<less

Taking in account the amount of chapters, this is a pretty good read. It has unrealistic tropes and abilities but that's to be expected from the genre. It is a long, exhausting read, however it the plot is engaging enough to keep you interested. As the plot advanced I couldn't help feeling for the MC that could never have a good rest.

All in all, the novel is pretty good and the author made sure the characters won't feel flat or too simple. There are plenty endearing side characters introduced and... more>> the MC's pets and spirits are likeable. Downside is that the huge amount of characters introduced naturally decrease the scenes of each one of them. The world building contains a lor of common tropes that are nicely handled and linked to each event.

The MC is a cold, scheming character and I like the way the author keeps her that way. She gets more expressive and caring but she doesn't change that much. She's OP at some points but since she works so hard to get stronger and plan properly, it actually isn't bothersome.

Sadly I didn't enjoy the last 100-200 chapters. They had a different tone from the rest of the novel and the development feel abrupt and chaotic, it felt like the author was in a hurry to end it and left a lot of loose strings.
Spoiler

I guess we can consider everything "solved" now that they became gods but it was a rather dissapointing ending taking in account the complexity and careful planning involved during most of the novel. An easy "fix".I disliked the way everyone else apart of the MC was so useless in the final arc, especially the ML and the newfound MC's parents. The ML was supposed to be so mighty and amazing but we didn't get to ever see his "true power" and even his personality became too soft and passive. Her parents felt so guilty and brokenhearted about her past hardships and yet... they did nothing useful at all. Poor MC carried all the burdens alone (though her friends did help at a critical moment)

Your typical OP cultivator romance story for young women and teens. While the story is a little long and contains many of the tropes you would expect to find in such novels, the characters are likable and the plot is interesting albeit a bit hackneyed. There is nothing particularly memorable, but it is still an entertaining read.

Writing Quality: This is part of a shared universe. North Night obviously matures over time in her writing (as seen in later tales), but this one is definitely still worth a go as an... more>> introductory piece.

Translation: As translation goes, Mistycloud is one of the best out there so you shouldnt be too disappointed.

ok, hear me out.

the epilogue satisfied everything I wanted from the franchise. This book, GDBBM, can be regarded as a SEQUEL for TGfNSYL, or 'The Good for Nothing Seventh Young Lady' which is why I recommend reading TGfNSYL first, and the translation is almost complete so you can connect the dots from the prologue. Some explanations:

Spoiler

you know Yu Jue, or Jun Wu Yao? Yeah, well he's Satan from TGfNSYL. There were some light clues, a few grazes, a couple side-eyes, you get the gist? Me? Well, I was stunned by this news, but I was pretty happy cause while reading TGfNSYL I simped for him so. Shen Yan Xiao and all her friends are gods by the end of the book. Jun Wu Xie is also god. Everybody is a god. The ending is good, the feeling is complete, the loose ends tied, I can move on with life.

[collapse]

I gave GDBBM 4 stars cause this author gives me satisfactory face-slap content, although I DO NOT condone so many useless chapters. During some of the arcs, I definitely grazed over the details. By grazed I mean at least a hundred chapters went by like that *snaps fingers* and I could not tell you a thing about those chapters. If someone asked me to pick between GDBBM or TGfNSYL, it would depend. Readability? Definitely TGfNSYL with less amount of chapters and a more condensed plotline. Character arc? GDBBM with not only the FL and ML progressing, but everybody else too!

as for outstanding characters? Well, there's one in particular. Gu Ying. Pay attention to him. I sympathize with him the most because, in the end, he sees all he did, all that's ever been done to him, and it is dust. Really gives him his humanity. We also have the six-person-friend-group, the usual recipe for a world-breaking, god-killing, lovable set of usually boys with (a) girl. hey, you may interrupt, an intellect, what about Rong Ruo? To which I reply, "Don't worry 'bout it sweetheart. Don't worry 'bout it."

that sums everything up basically. Read, don't read, your choice!

The novel is around 3000 chapters and I'll say each 1000 is like an arch. The protagonist has a steady character and it grows, same thing with the male lead. It appears soon, at the beginning you have glimpses of him but while the story unfolds his appearance is permanent. I'll say I enjoyed the novel, without any utterly s*upid villains or white lotuses or "b*tches". Quite the contrary, we have smart and logical characters be it support or antagonist. This novel is awesome, the plot, characters, and character development. I wpuld recommend this for people who like a long story though, given that there are more than 3000 ch of it. The story written are consistent (especially the counting of time, age, and such). The main female & male lead are both capable of using their abilities and cheat to their utmost.

I also really like how the story and mytery within unravelled.
