The martial arts tag shouldn't be present on this novel. The cultivation of the main character oscillates wildly, he gets skills at the highest possible level by doing literally nothing. The fights are unmotivated. Young masters from the most powerful sect who want to r*pe his harem are abound, and when the fights occur, they are uninspired. Its mostly goes like this:

"Lion roar purple condor licks its a**hole"

"take my most powerful attack", said a generic young master Mcc*ntFace of who-gives-sh*t clan.

"looks like young master Mcc*ntFace is using his strongest move... more>> now... heh heh.. looks like today is his bad luck", said lackey ButtLicker.

"you are not my opponent today" Qing Shui said, looking devilishly handsome like a God had descended on earth

"My Big d*ck rulz fire wind earth dragon roar slash"

*GASP*

Young master is lying on the ground.

This novel mostly exists to satisfy the readers wish-fulfillment in the form of a Gary Stu-ish character Qing Shui - a humble arrogant who is kind but evil (handsome) who indulges himself in monogamous, sweet and kind relationship with every peerless, virg*n, cold jade beauty by raping/gently loving them with his massive 10 incher member.

it also reads as the authors' fantastical f*ck diary, who I believe, and I might be wrong here but am 99.99% sure that I am 100 % correct, is a total NEET who has never interacted with a real woman and has learnt everything he knows about romance from watching shitty anime/harem.

This novel is complete and utter garbage. f*ck me. <<less

It is not the usual xianxia, where there are tons of arrogant young masters getting their ass kicked, but it has some of it either way. What it has an abundance of are women. He flirts like there is no tomorrow. His love is shallow at best.

Every chapter we are reminded of how he trains every skill he knows, and then the fight ends before even building up. Seriously kills any tension or any excitement that this novel would've had. He upgrades skills way too fast and somehow he... more>> goes from having a mystic treasure/art/cultivation technique into becoming a genius.

But what really annoys me is that he still keeps getting more and more women after 400+ chapters. He even neglects his "daughter" who has abandonment issues... good job writer.

In short, this novel HAD potential, but it is actually really boring. It relies on "fan service" and s*xual tension but that is it but if you look at it realistically. People who just cultivate for years and years would be actually boring. so there is that.

Edit: (c1172)

The story gets worst as it goes on. Its more on percentages (%), countries, stars, nimbus. I think the author gets confuse on how strong the MC really is. It is like 40% cultivation, 30% description of pills/weapons/armor he makes and the rest is about flirting with women, finding more women and playing or leaving his women/children.

The author makes it so that the MC will suddenly trust a stranger and he treats them as brother/sister, after like 1-2 meeting. <<less

Just read this until vol 5 around ch 40X-ish why the reason MC wants to be strong in the first place. If you are curious about some plots after reading ch40x, look at spoiler below. After this arc, it's pretty much, introduce new girl-swoon-problem introduce-too weak-become strong-copulate-repeat until 2492 chapters and even after all that, ending was rushed. The author still left many plot holes and unfinished promises. That's utter waste of time unless you like this kind of loopy holey playboye story then go ahead and read it.

Spoiler

Pretty much all the girls MC marry is solved in happy ending.

Mingyue Gelou is saved on ch449 with usual face slapping style. If you're curious what happens in later part, she will have a child with MC.

LuanLuan + Jiange arc also done after eradicating the opposing clan. LuanLuan met her real dad and siblings. That grandpa Lin talisman guy also solved in the same arc with this.

Huang Qing and Chen Di are sister, real name Di Chen and Di Qing. Both ends up with MC as well.

Some of the ladies problem won't get solved until more than thousands of chapters later because the author just suddenly remembered to tie the loose end. Like Wushuang which pretty much ignored or Yiye Jiange copulate scene got delayed just to c*cktease the readers. You might want to read it more but you will fall to author's trap because he will introduce more women and more problems. Rather than wasting time and get trapped, just stop after MC revenge to Yan family.

Examples of upcoming shittiness because I suspect that the author was running out of ideas

  1. MC's dad is not dead but get 'kidnapped' at later chapters (14xx-ish). He actually became a king of a country after married the princess of that country. CMIIW, he has 2-3 kids with that woman. They meet up with MC's mom and get chummy. Shitty plot isn't it?
  2. If you're wondering how many girls, MC will ends up with. I lost count.. I think somewhere around 20-30, maybe more than 30. MC is picking up girls like mad man, he even made new addition to 12 portrait of beauties, making it become 13, lol. Example, one of the side girl (non-beauty potrait series), that Elder Yun from Heavenly Palace vol 4. MC somehow met up with her again at ch 1xxx. She actually got a child so there you go, harem increased. Also, Zhu Qing ends up with MC.
  3. Wuren Wugou committed su*cide at ch300ish. Out of nowhere at the last vol, while journeying, the author made filler chapters that he met identical lady at ch 2xxx. He brought Wushuang to meet her, talked a little, and done. Dang, after more than a thousand chapter, the author remembered a character he killed and decided to do something.

1. MC was a cripple-tr*sh until he got his cheat... in the most s*upid and cheap way possible. When the MC was 8 or 9 (author is bad with numbers) he was upset at being a cripple-tr*sh, so he threw a tantrum and jogged until he passed out... and then from passing out he magically for no reason got eidetic memory, and had his brain stuffed full of tons and tons of knowledge out about crafting and item making from a video game he played in his past life (which... more>> somehow works in this world, and with playing the game as a justification for them being stuffed into his head), as well as a bunch of cultivation techniques from his current world and explicitly not from that video game (no explanation on where those techniques came from), as well as a mental image of yinyang symbol that automatically cultivates for him all the time effortlessly.

2. MC is an earth otaku who reincarnated. despite that, he has the mentality and maturity of someone his current body's age. The author could have removed it and nothing would have changed... well ok, the author is falsely claiming that he has the maturity of an adult. but that is a lie

3. MC keeps on pulling out powers and secret techniques out of his ass. I am not referring to how he initially got his cheat, but the fact that even afterwards he literally has techniques just "mysteriously" appear in his mind for no reason at all. At least have him stumble on a scroll or a manual instead of the technique just appearing in the MC's brain!

4. Writing is really shitty. Bad prose and highly inconsistent story and character behavior <<less

The epitome of a le*d MC who is lucky with women. Each female character introduced is described as ridiculously sensual and alluring, and for one reason or another each is also more powerful than the previous. Even the tragic single mother love interest is described as having unlimited martial potential.

If you disliked the fooling around of Yun Che from Against The Gods, you will find more here. The MC flirts outrageously with almost every woman he sees, and the author throws them into situations where these peerless beauties had... more>> no choice but become dependent on the MC for one reason or another. Outstanding beauties of status and/or with powerful bearing, one by one they get reduced to blushing, weak-kneed women. Strong s*xual images are described herein, so if you're looking for suitable 'payoffs' after some courtship instead of herbivore naive MCs, you'll find it here.

The story itself is a mish-mash, the MC has a long term goal of protecting his family but he veers off here and there, tripping over women and offending the faceless tr*sh that wants the women for themselves.

Update as of ch1101: Some new readers might be surprised by the huge number of chapters, but I skipped many of them because they contain nothing substantial. Entire chapters are dedicated to descriptions of powering up of certain skills, a reader could literally scroll past several paragraphs. If there are no quotation marks to indicate dialogue, it means the chapter is usually not plot-related and about as interesting as reading the review of a piece of furniture.

The MC literally flies from one woman to the next. Even after fathering several children, the women happily stays at home while he goes about the world for years and years. A female character is only given prominence if the chapter or arc is about her, otherwise she becomes a faceless background character with the rest of the harem, offering knowing smiles and saying nothing else.

It is truly one of those novels filled with repetitive plot devices... even the fillers are repetitive. The only positive point of the novel is that once you're used to reading it, you know which chapters to simply scroll through and which ones to actually read. <<less

This is probably one of the worst novels I have ever read.

At first it starts as an average xianxia with the MC focusing a lot of time in women (at a bearable level) with some interesting aspects of cultivation. However at some point the whole story starts following the same pattern:

    • Find and get a new woman while rambling that it goes against his morals since his previous life monogamy was valued (even when he has 10+ women in his harem)
    • Random arrogant antagonist appears and tries to get one of his women
    • He kills the antagonist
    • Antagonist family/sect goes after him
    • He destroys the family/sect
Also the amount of random encounters to level his beasts companions and himself are on a ridiculous levels and after they happen the author shows a bunch of random numbers/skills showing how much they powered up that no one is keeping track or cares.

Overall, this novel is DEFINITELY NOT a piece of work I would recommend. Do not waste your time on this one.

  1. As mentioned, this LN is just a cringy attempt at harem. But honestly, the interaction of MC with females is at the level of h**ny 12yo. If the author isn't catering towards unsatisfied young boys, then I have no idea what he's doing.
  2. The cultivation... It lacks any coherence. Not to mention that rather than MC trying to find particular skills he finds useful, they randomly come during level-ups. Also, cultivation is something that just 'happens'. If you are looking for a cultivation novel, honestly, skip this one or you'll fall into alcoholism while trying to forget.
  3. The plot is suspiciously missing from the novel. Everything is resolved before any sort of tension builds up. And most of the stuff is because of females that instantly fall for MC.
  4. Moral behaviour of the MC... While I don't mind misbehaving or c0cky MCs, the one in this story is just a pure garbage. He's seemingly nice in those little situations where he's willingly helping someone, but that's it.
  5. Carefull planning or intelligent approaches? Not with this MC.

The story is a typical Wuxia/Xianxia story, with a "Heaven-defying" artifact, woman who are throwing themselves at the protagonist and plot armor. A friggin tone of plot armor. As I said: A typical Wuxia/Xianxia story.

The is only one problem with this story and it is the maniacal obsession of the author with describing every single woman the protagonist comes across as a peerless beauty. If you read this, you could swear, that there are no ugly woman in existence. But that is not the main problem. The main problem is,... more>> that the author simply compares the beauty of this girl and that girl and another girl with absolutely everything. I'm pretty convinced that one day it will be: "Qing Shui looked at the road ahead of him and saw a stone lying on the ground. The stone was smooth, but not as smooth as the skin of girl-a and girl-b. Although the stone was smooth it could not compare to the jade-like skin of girl-a or the soft like a peach skin of girl-b..." and then it will continue to describe the beauty of the two for the rest of the chapter.

Alright, maybe it will not be as bad as the example is, but seriosly, I had to skip a few chapters, because they were nothing more, than descriptions and comparrions of beauties.

The story is by no means bad, it's just that the descriptions of the "heaven-defying" beauties is over the top. <<less

I read this novel for quite a while, and I enjoyed it, but there has been a problem cropping up that just makes it hard to keep reading it. This issue is how poorly the mc/author handles the harem, we have a MC who actively pursues a harem, and neglects them. Which it is good that the author actually has the harem members realize it, but it just does not bode well for the future in which he will probably be constantly getting and forgetting his loved ones and only... more>> remembering them in order to make a plot point before going onto the next conquest. <<less

Ancient fortifications technique is underrated by many novel that does not get hung up on his character cultivation and beating random baddies. It is a balanced product, combines the good story, a lot of well-disclosed characters, enemies that loom on the horizon, making them only dangerous in this story. Hero is focused both on the force, and the protection of his family and the beautiful women that surround it. If you do not like a harem, and prefer to force the sake of power and wanton cultivation without any purpose... more>> that this novel is not for you. The main character is a good guy, a little womanizer, preferring mature ladies (if you remember the past life, it would hardly be different.), Takes care of his clan, eventually becomes colder and harder. Interesting battles, a variety of opponents. The biggest disadvantage is boring chapters about cultivating and talismans. <<less

I am not sure where I left off, but I read possibly 800 chapters. I was bored at the time so I kept reading it but the way the MC describes women just outright annoys me. I just had to drop it. The writing is not very creative nor is it written well. MC describes every woman he encounters nation or world shaking. Holy hell, can you not describe every woman the same way while having a harem of a million?

Don't read it, waste of your time.

Normally when a novel has bad reviews, it doesn't necessarily mean the novel is bad. However, I would like to announce that this novel is indeed tr*sh. There's a number of reasons why this novel is garbage, but I'm only going to list 2 reasons.
  • For every 10 chapter the author writes, 8 of these chapters will be about all the power-ups the MC acquired through his cultivation.
  • For every 10 chapter the author writes, 2 of these chapters will be actual content that progresses the story. In other words, you are essentially reading 800 chapters of garbage.
The rest of the nonpower-up chapters will just be repeating the same storyline over and over again. The author does not attempt to do anything new as he follows a strict cycle that goes something like this:

Spoiler
    1. MC meets attractive woman.
Attractive woman has one of these personalities: (cold, mature, friendly)
    2. There is conflict that revolves around the woman. MC saves the day.
    3. Woman falls in love with MC. (Here is where the MC is either a virg*n or chad depending on the author's mood.)

virg*n MC: MC rejects the woman because he already has a billion wife at home and adding one more would mean more responsibility for him. Also because he's very indecisive about his own feelings on whether he loves the woman or not, thus c*ckblocks himself. This is funny because I could have sworn when I was reading the novel the MC was determined to be someone who doesn't second guess himself at least 50 times.

Chad MC: MC doesn't care that he already has a billion wife at home. He loves the new woman so the only logical choice at this point is to add one more to his collection of hot babes.

4. MC and the woman get together no matter the outcome cause why not? Can't say no to a hot babe who throws herself at you.

5. Rinse and repeat.

[collapse]

Now, having a massive harem is not the problem. The problem is that the author doesn't put any effort in any of the new harem members. It's like the author is just adding new harem members because he ran out of ideas. These girls all have the same personality and it's just so happens that they all live together in peace and harmony with all of MC's kid.

The story has really gone downhill ever since MC lost his original goal. At this point, he isn't fighting for his own cause. He's just a robot that goes around fighting and becoming stronger just to chase a woman.

Bad things about this novel
1. MC (a loser/gamer/college student) dies in real world. Reincarnates in a different world. MC has a weak body since birth and unable to cultivate. By some chance encounter in a backward village he obtains a cultivation technique. His cultivation system is based on a game like there are progress bars telling his XP in alchemy etc. Xp increases he unlocks new things. His reincarnation, cultivation technique are completely random.
2. MC has a Completely ridiculous cultivation technique, when he enters a new level he... more>> unlocks random information like cooking, pill receipts etc.
3. MC's personality is s*upid.
Spoiler

He comes to a big city and tries his best to woo a woman. Makes promises that he will marry her, keep her happy. After sometimes this woman falls in love with him, but by this time MC has lost his v**ginity to some other girl (i.e. He r*ped her) and is no longer interested in this woman because since he is from modern world he wants a monogamous relationshi p (even after this he keeps on f*cking other girls) . He still flirts with her but also lets her know from his expressions that he is no longer going to do anything with her.

[collapse]
4. MC's ridiculous and nonsensical Treasure
Spoiler

He finds a pendant which gives him own personal secret realm where time is slower by 100 times. Later on this pendent embeds itself on MC's forehead and sticks out like a purple dot. Everybody thinks MC has become cool and literally not a single person comments about it when they see him for the first time. Secret realm has pond where if you keep aquatic animals there meat gives huge benefits to people. His secrete realm upgrades every time he has s*x with a new woman, like secret realms size increases, a new tree appears with OP fruits. He finds this treasure in the same backward village.

[collapse]
5. MC's reasoning is completely s*upid and ridiculous. He will say something but do contradictory actions.

I am too tired to mention anything more. Started this novel bcoz wanted a good harem, but MC's actions, logic, abilities frustrated me so much that I couldn't even continue reading till he even properly establishes a Harem. <<less

The start of the novel is great and upto chapter 100-150 are readable and then it's just MC going on a SIMPLE journey to collect women through some efforts; effort as in a few lines to show off MC's macho-ism

Couldn't read the simple plot. Though to be fair, the Author had warned that in his summary I guess. So if you are looking for a simple plot, then this is the novel.

Good balance between romance and battle.

Sometimes keeps the tension. Sometimes gives a break from the flow of battle. And of course lots of beautiful women.

If you were on the chapter I am on, you would wish that all these negative reviews were false. You would wish that the story picks up pace, the plot gets better, etc.

But the harsh reality is that the story is repetitive, tasteless and boring. So, what is wrong with the novel? As you may from the other reviews below that there is very little battle (action) in this novel and most of the time the author either describes the ass, breasts and other body parts of women or how... more>> the MC hits on them. This point needs a bit more elaboration because nothing is wrong with a novel having less battles and more romance.
    1. Less battles - The MC has only killed 1 person in these 120 chapters. Moreover most of the battles he engages in are done in 1 move, even if they aren't, the battle description is lame-assed. This isn't the worst part yet.
    1. Describing beauties - This isn't that bad, which guy doesn't want to read about perky mounds and plump bums.
    1. MC hitting on the gals - Some problem here. The instances of him hitting on the women are plenty but sadly his pickup lines are always the same. He will tease them, they will feel that he is quite likable and feelings will develop. And if you are wondering about s*x scenes, till now there has been only one, which wasn't even described in as much detail as we would like in-spite of all the le*d talk that goes on in almost every chapter.
This could have been a very better novel, if only the fights were described somewhat better, the romance (including the s*x scenes) had been more passionate and if the MC really cared about his love interests. It could have been a better ATG with more emphasis on romance, but the author is really hell bent on making things bad.

The main problem is that the author is nasty as hell. He makes the MC get each and every beauty wherever he goes and bangs them for sometime, but then the MC will move on somewhere else leaving them and repeat this, not that the women mind this. And this is the same thing that happened to his mother, his father left (though unwillingly) after getting her pregnant, and the MC hates his father and his father's clan for this. Talk about a hypocrite. The most teeth grinding thing the author did was about Yu He. Yu He was a widow, the MC hit on her, got her lips, breasts and ass, but then due to some miraculously lousy reason (the author intentionally came up with to make us feel as bad as we were watching netorare hentai) friend-zoned her. The novel also has plenty scenes of antagonists having s*x (another trick of the author to fulfill his desire to be a director of netorare hentai). He never returns for his past lovers (because author wants us to be worried to hell that the MC will get cuckold). All in all the author is trying to leave a really bad taste in the mouth of some light-heart readers who really despise things like cuckold and netorare.

The allegations in some of the below reviews that the author objectifies women is true. The MC uses them and moves on. F*ck, what kind of MC just leaves his women, and never comes back (even though in some harem novels the MC has to leave for some period of time, he is always frantic to return to his lovers or thinks about them but in ast he just wants to eat new delicacies and throw the leftover). <<less

When I first started reading this, I assume I enjoyed it, otherwise I'd have not kept up with it thus far, but really I can't recall for the life of me why I did enjoy it. The MC has no depth whatsoever, you could have replaced him with someone wearing a paper bag with 'My only two emotions are lust and arrogance'. I've really tried to keep up with this, but it just ends up feeling like a chore to even read a few chapters, and thus I end up... more>> with a massive backlog because I can't bear to read more than a few chapters at a time.
You'd be hard pressed to find a more linear progression than AST, as the majority of the story revolves around the MC talking about percentaged boosts, one after another, with more and more abilities popping up out of nowhere for little to no reason, such as "I looked at carved stone with magic eyes, I can now jump faster".
Then we move on to the female cast, which typically is the only redeeming factor of similar texts, yet we end up with so many of them that you just lose track, and can never remember if the MC has f*cked them, or will f*ck them in the upcoming chapters, even ATG is better in this aspect. Overall, AST just feels shallow, with the only thing driving the plot being the MC's pen*s. I'd liken reading AST to playing an MMO, but at least I could listen to a podcast or something while playing an MMO to alleviate the grind.
I'd give this a 1/5, but I vaguely remember enjoying sporadic portions of this at times, even though they seem to have left little to no impact on me. I'll probably try to continue reading this when I eventually forget how boring this is, only to remember so a few chapters later. <<less

This is not slice-of-life. I get why people may think that. And the reason is because author does not give much spotlight to things happening. We are getting half of chapter describing a single new skill, or an upgrade of existing skill, or a new piece of equipment/dish/pill, and if it's a combination of those, it's common to get entire chapter of nothing happening at all. Is author trying to actually teach us those skills via thorough descriptions? Maybe it'd be fine, but important things like fighting or talks and... more>> decisions don't really take much space. We read a lot about new skills and such just to read after that how MC kills another villain with 1 strike, and then annihilation of enemy clan that takes two sentences to describe. It's extremely anti-climactic. Basically author sets up something bad happening, we get the bad feelings we are supposed to, but then everything is solved in extremely short time and we do not get the good feelings we're supposed to, leaving bad aftertaste.

Another thing is romance. It's... barely there. Girls flock around main character just to give us some fanservice and another plot twist. It gets even worse with
Spoiler

the 380th chapter that has that NTR feel, mainly because it's extremely ret*rded plot twist full of plot holes (just like most NTR stories). I'm not sure if this is the reason for NTR tag? Or maybe it gets worse further into story.

[collapse]

And it's obvious this entire thing was written just because author is trying to give girls some kind of 2deep background. When I started reading it, I liked it, but the more I'm reading, the worse it gets. It started pretty easy-going, but now author is trying to go towards drama... while also trying to maintain some of that easy-going feel. If you're thinking about picking it up - my advice would be... don't. At least wait for another hundred or two chapters to be released. Maybe it gets better. But right now, in my opinion, it's only getting worse. <<less

First of all. The translation of this novel is very good. But there are some problems with the novel.

1. The story would be good but the conflicts in it are just very very very forced.

2. The power ups are too convenient for the MC. In the beginning they were still enjoyable but later they became frustrating.
