Great story, great humor. Characters are clearly based on some manga/novels especially Japaneses ones but I don't care too much about it (as long as they fit the story). Most interesting part of the story are the plot twists from the Absolute Choice itself, it makes it quite hard to predict sometimes.

This novel actually started really good, but unfortunally it was up to chapter 400. The more I read, the more I found myself just scrolling down without reading anything. Author isn't even trying to cover up the fact that he has ran out of ideas and just using any means to increase the word cound. WTF, he brazenly mentions it, three times in a row at that.

After 450 chapter 90% of every chapter is just a filler and can be skipped, there are such plot twists that you won't be... more>> able to understand what is happening anyway. Meh, I guess I'll just scroll down till the end of this f*cking 7th floor arc to see if it will turn better.. <<less

What makes this story so hard to enjoy is that so much of everything feels improbable, imaginary, random or artificial, where instead of trying first and foremost to make a coherent story with coherent characters, the author feels the need to constantly add new random elements to keep things 'original'.

In the author's defense, he actually managed to make me laugh in surprise sometimes, but unfortunately the rest of the time I feel like I am getting annoyed by a nonsense story with nonsense characters and nonsense action.

The action is bad... more>> like most xianxia action is bad:
- no 3D / visual coherency: how actions are put in sequence does not make sense (ex: the range of attacks for real punches and kicks is absurd, and the characters launch them from any position: prone or crouching, in the air or off the ground as if that made no difference)
- long-winded talking during attacks that take a split-second to execute
- short-range attacks launched from 100 meters, or 10 meters, or 1 meter, with no understanding of the difference between moving into range for an attack (movement speed) and then attacking (attacking speed), or of the impact movement actually has on a kick or punch (offensively and defensively)
- endless addition of new imaginary magical attacks to be mixed with physical attacks (punches, swords, etc.), with no coherent set of reasons why one is better than the other
- endless progression into new 'realms' of power means that everything you learned about the system of fighting gets voided constantly: no one knows what will be the winning factor next (hint: it's all too clearly just plot armor deciding things anyway)
- lazy usage of the idea of dodging (or blocking, or even attacking) : clearly the author just doesn't know much about how one can feasibly move to dodge various types of punches, kicks, weapons, arrows or bullets
- ex of lazy usage of punching / kicking: in real life, with 2 human bodies against each other, there is a huge difference between a jab and a hook or a body shot, just like there is a huge difference between foot jabs, round house kicks, axe kicks, various spin or jump kicks, and so on, but it's always just described as being a dumb punch or kick + dodge or block or magic shield or whatever nonsense words they decide to put in their sequence that they term 'a fight to the death'

A soft-minded person might give the benefit of the doubt and force his imagination into accepting the string of nonsense as action that is dangerous and high tension for the MC, but for me it just gets more and more boring as the super powers grow ever more nebulous and impossible to rank.

Other people might criticize xianxia for skipping on description of locales and characters, or for having locales that don't make sense (ex: the logistics of how people navigate their environment), but for me it is the nonsense fights that are the most tiresome.

Anyhow, I wouldn't say that this LN is the worst offender for nonsense action, but the plot really feels like way more nonsense than sense, so maybe that's what makes the action feel worse than it is?

Spoiler

So what exactly is the MC? Was he basically on the magic road to OPness from the start (which would make his use of 'this King' be more reasonable), what made him get his super power, when did he get it - it was all very confusing.

The author sometimes wants the MC to look weak and totally like a regular guy standing up and getting in the way of super-evil in hopeless ways, but then a few chapters later you get an explanation of how, in fact, the MC had been secretly advancing an extremely improbable strategy to win using a special ability you never knew he had.

So you never really know what is going on, be it now or in the past. Various characters' perspectives will frequently be used, so that you can witness the MC's confusing actions from a completely ignorant side character's perspective.

The recent fight against the Bishop of Virtuality was typical:
- where did the MC's Eye of God power suddenly come from? Why was his knife so effective? He had no offensive power AT ALL supposedly, but of course that gets turned around once the author decides to make the MC single-handedly save the day and the babe.
- at one point, the MC and babe are separated by a hundred meters, and then a dozen bone dragons and hundreds of skeleton warriors get summoned between them, only the babe is incapacitated. The MC somehow runs through them all and catches up to the foremost dragon that had been just about to swallow her, but the MC has the time to fight with the dragon for TEN SECONDS, and yet none of the other dragons or warriors use that time to infect the chick?
- the VR is supposed to be life-like, and you find out that committing su*cide would free you from the trap, but when the MC is s*upidly climbing and jumping off of 20 METER HIGH trees to try to reach the guy 100 meters in the sky: isn't a fall from 20 meters+ enough to kill or disable someone?
- why did the MC encourage the babe to waste all her mana firing arrows at the bad guy's shield? It accomplished nothing, nor did it create any opportunities for the MC as a combo attack... It was just a complete dud that then left her disabled and needing rescue.
- the fight was supposed to be high tension, with a terrible new arch-rival having been introduced, but then you find out that the MC's Lolita master/gf already knows who the Bishop is and had visited her to save him (which finally explained why he got control over the summoned creatures at the end). In the end, the master and arch-evil sound and look like two teenage girls who are old friends... LOL WUT?
- no really: this terrible terrorist organization which is deemed SO AWFUL and irrepressible for dozens of chapters, was in fact a vain old man who had been used for random mu*ders by a vain teenage girl for seemingly nothing more than vapid, shallow, ego-driven reasons, but that's OK 'cos the nonsense Lolita-master knows all about it and does practically nothing about it, other than dropping by for a visit to have a nonsense talk with the arch-criminal old buddy teenager.

If you are looking for something of a light reading material with humor included then you should give this a try. As of late this is not a harem kind of novel although the plot twists with the female protagonists is a fun read. I think most readers who do not prefer childish protagonists should avoid this. Anyway this would really depend on your own preference. Personally I am enjoying this novel. Thumbs up to the translators too with it's fast release and quality translation.

Great story. The MC gets traumatised at first, then starts trying to give himself courage by pretending he's a King, until a girl who confesses to him breaks the ice. I like how the MC was planned out. An adorable guy really. The novel delivers in trying be fresh and original, but some might hate it due to some of its blatant rip-offs (Though each one purposefully there and easily recognised.). Good story.

Tried to read this so meany times...

Good story

Great World and world building

But the MC pisses me of so much that even when I try to ignore him and read just for the world building, I still get so pissed of with him that I have to stop reading the series to avoid smashing my computer.

Would be the perfect series if not for the MC.

I wanted to like this novel, but I really couldn't.

There are some legitimately good and interesting things in there, but they get drowned out by the authors narcisism and ripping off stuff from popular anime.

He rips off characters. There's One Punch Man's Saitama, Nendou from Saiki Kusuo, Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter for example. Sometimes it's just the design but a different personality (which in itself is incredibly jarring), sometimes he also rips off the entire personality (his Hisoka is literally a carbon copy), which is also incredibly jarring.

Many of... more>> the powers the MC learns are also rip offs. You have the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception from Tsukihime, the power of the MC from Guilty Crown...

I couldn't take it anymore when the author basically copy-pasted the entire 'Awakening' scene from Guilty Crown, where the author even recommended imagining the music that played during that scene in the anime.

This is literally bad fanfiction.

And this isn't even going into the problems that come with the 'Absolute Choice' this novel is named after.

The translation is very good though. <<less

This has to be one of the worst novels I have ever read. In fact this might be the first time I felt so negativity towards a novel and I have been reading for at least 5 years

Stolen characters, arcs that are over 100 chapters, the whole plot needlessly dragged out, later chapters are 90% fillers which serve absolute no purpose even if you skip 20 chapters you still wouldn't miss anything and so much freaking unnecessary details which repeated at least 3 times in the same chapter

It has become... more>> a real chore to read this garbage. The authors writing skills absolutely suck so much unnecessary dialogues so much fillers

The beginning of the story was ok I would have given it 4 stars but now it has become absolute garbage I would even give it 0 stars if I could I wholeheartedly regret reading this novel and wasting so much of my time on it <<less

tl;dr Full of Filler/word padding is extreme. Rate 2-3

I liked NouCome, but this tries to be interesting/funny like that, but doesn't quite make it. It tries to make Chuuni funny, but falls short (love, chuuni&other). However, like Re:Zero save points when he fails his 'choice' its decently good.

The story is actually kind of annoying, but well put together for the first idk 100 chapters. But the MCs overblown 8th grade syndrome, which is supposed to be funny as a joke, falls very very flat in my opinion. It causes... more>> the story just to be hard to read. Some of the subplots, are just confusing, and poorly thought out. Once they are in the tower, its just silly. The only over-arching subplot, was Divine Coin to "railgun" ripoff, that took like 250+ chapters to finally appear (bravo holding onto a deus ex there) but the rest... ugh.

The mischief absolute choices, just make me gag as a trope, its forced very badly, and its ridiculous. I read up to current 502. Despite its flaws, I couldnt find anything worthwhile to read at the time while waiting for updates on something better..

So, definitely a hodge-podge rip on animes (Love, Chuuni & Other, NouCome (obviously), Re:Zero-ish, references Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, One Punch etc., amongst others I saw (and subsequently have forgotten). Its like a very odd fanfiction, that got popular, and now is full of word padding and filler. If you find yourself bored, just stop, it doesn't really start getting better at all. <<less

Ok, to start off, this novel kinda hard at times to read through and gets boring at the beginning. From the 1st few chapters and around chapter 50+ it introduces obvious rips from One punch mans and HunterxHunter, And the MC can be seen as an annoying kid with a case of Chunni BUT, as you progress through those chapters the story starts to give good reasoning for why it does what it does. When people say the MC is chunni, it's really him understanding how weak he is and... more>> trying to compensate for it. For some unrealistic events like with the moments with a crazy teacher even though the MC is supposed to be super important. It can be understood with the reason
Spoiler

Sure, It makes no sense for the crazy rookie teacher to almost kill MC but when you find out the the teacher is one of the few Powerhouses of the organization. Wouldn't the organization try and keep him no matter how sadistic he is because he's one of the people keeping the organization relatively in power. Compared to some1 who shows promise and one of the top members. It's not like they can fire him. The rookie teacher teaches so he can satisfy his sadistic nature and the organization has to put up with that.

The MC isn't truely an idiot for causing misunderstandings, he's just a pure innocent kid who has little exeperience in the world. So in conclusion if you work through some of the troublesome chapters, this story gets exponentially better with less rip offs and more original characters to interact with and define character growth. <<less

AC can be likened to a nice day at the beach, only there is this one kid that keeps kicking sand at you for no good reason, bringing down the day as a whole. It almost seems as if the author took a selection of their favourite anime from the last several years, put them in a blender, then took the shredded mess and filled the gaps with some decent content. The whole thing just feels like someone with schizophrenia writing a borderline fan-fic, and while the first anime reference... more>> is fine, the nth reference really starts to wear on you.

That's not to say that AC is a terrible text, the MC is quirky and likable, as with a majority of the cast and there are some genuinely enjoyable parts, it's just that some things leave a bad taste in your mouth and the setting is so all-over the place that it's hard to immerse yourself or build a solid image of the world..

I'm gonna keep reading this, but I really do hope that some of it's issues are dealt with down the line <<less

The author kicks off the story by saying he's deadset on making his story unpredictable and take the path untrodden, and he meant it. Shi Xiaobai is neither weak nor dense, but he isn't predictably OP either. At every twist, I draw on my extensive experience reading ban*l Xianxia and WNs and predict one twist, but Absolute Choice veers and surprises me with something completely different. The chapters also progress quickly - peanut-gallery filler chapters are rare, and the author also knows how to make you care for the side... more>> characters. The story, characters, plot, translation - everything is a perfect score in my books.

PS: I have heard plenty of complaints about what people consider pointlessly annoying Chuunibyou, but work your through it! Within a few chapters the author fleshes out the Chuunibyou and gives it a purpose, and later tones it down too. <<less

So far, it isn't bad.

The main character acts like an idiot. No, he probably is an idiot. He is a gaming otaku with a 100% chuunibyou disease.

Its a refreshing character type in a xian xia world. We don't usually get idiots. We have idiots, but they always go full ret*rd. This MC in this doesn't go full ret*rd. He understands himself the most, so he judges himself appropriately. He isn't humble either, but he is far from confident in himself.

But because he is an idiot he makes misunderstandings, which I... more>> love, since they are hilarious if done right.

Unfortunately, he suffers from "OP"-itis, in which he'll talent and power himself way through things (like the usual MC's who say they don't have talent, just hard work, when that's just bullshit, and they have the most talent). But he has all the talent.

The game mechanic of his absolute choice isn't really used that often. I thought it would troll the MC more in the beginning, but it isn't used that often or that much. If the author puts in the game choice more, it would be much better, especially if it trolls the MC (like the experimental log of the lich series).

And it suffers from excessive peanut gallery that goes no where, and nobody, who isn't chinese, likes reading one god damn page of nothing but extras who we don't give a sh*t about, comment on what just happened. Seriously, they need to stop that.

All in all, it has a 5- star potential, a 3 star execution, and if the author brushes up on some of the tired and old narrative choices, then it would be a 4 over all.
Basically: use the absolute system more, dramatically decrease peanut gallery talk, improve exposition execution, and make more misunderstandings.

P.S. Be prepared for characters ripped off from other series (except that it kind of annoys you that they don't act like their original counter parts *cough* saitama *cough*, which puts them at a cognitive dissonance... except the hisoka copy.) <<less

This novel is pretty enjoyable. I feel like it's closer to a fan fiction than an original story though. From what I can tell, the author has pulled characters from at least three different sources. It's got someone similar to Saitama from 'One-Punch Man', people similar to Hisoka and Killua from 'Hunter X Hunter', and a more muscular version of Nendou Riki from 'Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan'. You could also compare the MC to some random Japanese chuunibyou protagonist. I wonder who else has been thrown in?

So, finally a translated chinese novel that has time dilation as its central plot device. Let's see in the future if there will be a good story accompanying it or not.

edit: As of chapter 58, the story is decent, but the anime characters' ripoff is not and very lame. That other Naruto-related novel (In Different World with Naruto System) looks much better in comparison.

But what I didn't like is...

Spoiler

the fact that that there is a time dilation event in the 'Absolute Choice' event somewhere in chapter 55 where the MC is asked to choose between DFC or making a GF. With the other 'Absolute Choice' events not having one (like the one where the MC has to choose between underwear and first kiss), this easily blows a plothole into the storyline and also introduced inconsistencies too.

Between the three types of 'Absolute Choice' events (unpredictable, malicious, daily), only the first one should have been given the time loop feature. Also it seems that as of chapter 58, there will be no more new characters that originates from anime titles, which only shows to me the author's penchant for inconsistency.

It was ok at the beginning but gradually goes downhill around the middle of Nine Revolutions Transcendental Tower Arc (around Ch.300+). I don't know what happened to the author but the story somehow became draggy? And info dumps became very common, too many filler chapters, repeating chapters or flashbacks just to show different POV.

It's not totally bad as long as you skim info dumps, and tolerate parodies, also the story somehow became a harem subplot?

Though not bad I think I will drop this because of the following reasons

  1. The Absolute Choice System sometimes funny sometimes annoying.
  2. The author is too mischievous/mean sometimes
    Spoiler

around chapter 471 everything ended all enemy boss dead like a happily ever after everyone talking happily while walking home then *bam!* MC kills unconsciously Speechless Li.. I was like F*** what just happened.. OK rage quit I kinda like Speechless Li's character

  3. For me the Seven Deadly Sins concept in this novel kinda ruins it for me especially

around the part where Gluttony was killed presumably MC is the Original Calamity of Sin so when Gluttony returned to its "owner" MC now is constantly hungry & can/need to eat a lot of food also include inedible/inanimate objects

Spoiler

Originally, I'd have given Absolute Choice a 4/5 rating, or even 5/5. The beginning was fairly weak, yes, more similar to a fanfiction or a parody than anything else. However, I believe the author, Pear Lands in the Autumn Spring, suddenly decided to take the story more seriously and spiced things up. We were introduced to some pretty interesting plots and characters, and the battle scenes weren't half bad. Of course, there were some parts where the quality dropped, but the story still managed to keep itself interesting. Personally, my favorite parts were Shi Xiaobai getting hold of Kali's corruption (loved her character), and the scenes with Dawn Li (even though her appearance is pretty much Saber from the Nasuverse). However, the author... managed to majestically fail later on. Not only did he throw filler chapters at out way time after time again (at least a 100 of those), he clearly started to drag on the story, with all of that random filler paragraphs, and the characters reacting to the random filler chapter, saying how they were random filler paragraphs (in other words, the author is clearly aware that what he's doing is unprofessional, yet he persists on doing it. Go figure). There are also various immersion-breaks and over-explanation. Like the author suddenly mentioning, in the middle of an important, deep scene, how 'the author is a really awesome guy, so, of course, Villain A won't touch MC's girlfriend B). That's the definition of an anti-climax. It COMPLETELY breaks the flow. It's silly, dumb and ridiculous. And it happened countless times over the past few chapters. Anyhow, with all of that flaws summed up together, I've lowered my rating from a mighty 5/5 to 1/0. If I could, I'd give it a negative one. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. It turns into a huge disappointment later on. Unless the author gets his game together, it's not worth reading.

Initially, the novel was very good and I liked it very much. However, recently author has focused more on insignificant characters. Initially, I thought that those characters will have some role in the future. But, that is not the point, he does not have any plot to move on. That is evident from the recent chapters. Simply writing story for the sake of increasing no of chapters. Well for now, I will put the novel on hold so that I can skip those fillers.

I really thank translator for his efforts... more>> and his consistency. <<less
