Another great novel by this author. 4.2/5

While not on par with the masterpiece that is Transcending the Nine Heavens, it's still a great novel. The MC is amazing, most of the rest of the cast is terrific, the villains are not the usual, common and generic super powerful big bads. The language is great, the banter between the characters is godly at times, you wont see the pointless bloat to reach a higher word count that a lot of other CN web novel authors spam out instead of trying... more>> to construct a good story. And it's laugh out loud funny at times, not chuckle funny, I mean actual funny. What this novel lacks is direction, after 156 chapters it still feels like there are no true proper goals aside from usual ones, where the MC wants to reach the top, get revenge for his family etc. The world building isn't that great either to be fair. Those are the main flaws of this otherwise great novel. The good outwights the bad 10x over though, it's easily among the top 1% of the novels being translated. <<less

I have read until chapter 113 or v2c13, and I got to say this is one of my favorite. The store is good, the translation is good, the characters are good and you can see that the author is butting a lot of work on it just from setting up the layout off the store, Yes it might take a while for a story to get going per say, but I like how we get to see the MC deal with the world as he just got there and need... more>> time to understand his surrounding a lot better. Also there are not a lot of fights because the MC is not a fighter but an assassin and only know how to kill <<less

Slower paced, but the author seems to be laying a solid foundation for the remainder of the story. A well written and funny story with a actually smart MC.

More political and strategical maneuvering than fights soo far in the translated chapters, but its what makes this novel different than the others and adds entertainment it.

I don't understand how this one is rated so high. This is the first time that I actually dropped a LN because the story is all over the place. I literally had to force myself to keep on reading just in case it gets better. It's not. Here's the few issued with this series:

1.) The power ranking system is inconsistent when it applies to MC. Each rank is a ginormous difference. A higher rank can easily brute force through lower rank, and lower rank needs to expand all their power... more>> to damage a higher rank. MC did not even reach the lower rank required to damaged the higher one, yet he can easily ripped out their throat with his bare hand. Because assassination. Makes no sense.

2.) The author had some weird issue with d*ck jokes, which he sprinkled around in the novel - no, not the funny kind, the weird, awkward, and cringy kind.

3.) The author is probably an alcoholic considering how detailed he described alcohol consumption. It's nice and poetic and shit, but the logic makes no sense:

Spoiler

MC described how the true way of drinking wine is drink with emotion. This is what makes the wine taste good. Yet, at the same time shitting on this world's wine because it taste bad and his homebrew is better.

[collapse]

4.) The MC code of ethics is full of sh*t and contradictory. Author just changes it when he feels like MC should be caring, cold-blooded, or righteous in this particular. There was a line that describes MC that he knows he's wrong internally, but will never say it out loud because that's the way he is. That's called stubborn and full of shit. Here's another example:

Spoiler

When his uncle saved a bunch of deformed kids, MC lectured him about how he needs to make hard decision sometime for the greater good. Then a few chapters later, he dragged his entire family into a potential destruction just to save his sister-in-law.

[collapse]

5.) He circle jerked himself as the greatest assassin ever, but he's not:

Spoiler

MC was under the boat of an enemy eavesdropping to gain information. Enemy said that they're targeting his grandfather. MC shudders due to shock and gave away his position. Enemy noticed and try to catch him

[collapse]

6.) Now up to chapter 185, there's no clear plot line. It's just "random sh*t comes up, dealing with it", and nothing is resolved so far. <<less

This novel was a disappointment. It was an enjoyable read at the beginning, but got more and more peverse and long winded further on. Reading this is now a chore.

In short, this is another one of those standard-OP-MC-harem-plotwhatplot type novels that are everywhere. Only thing that stands out from the others is how the writer tries to make it seem like it has a plot. I've read 486 chapters and I still can't tell this novel apart from others nor can I remember any distinguishing traits or storyline.

The author tries... more>> to make the actions of the MC look relevant and justified, but in truth all it does is to make me think that the author is playing us readers for fools. The author tries to justify the MC's actions but it does is make it look more disgusting and sexist. <<less

It started out so well but then started to fail. For the simple fact that just like his other novels Fengling is bad at writing romance. This could have been so much better without the s*upid harem. This guy is suppose to be a master assassin but can't handle a single girl when they cry.

This is a disappointment.....

You see what kind of a man this author is with this Novel..

The MC in my opinion is not the Best Assassin in his past life but a Chuuni faking himself some kind of godly assassin. I don't have against OP characters but please make it believable, Why? well because his enemies are so s*upid, you know in perspective of power ups the MC is the weakest in the struggle of Power levels, with his level of a weak guy he can kill (not almost) but all... more>> of the Strongest Experts of this Novel (for example the undetected invisibility) (the OP nine Dagger techniques that can kill his enemies in precision that can penetrate even the Godly opponents he have) and so on.. plus the story it is s*upid it show not the good side of the MC but he gives nothing bad characteristics like (Kill is the only option, I want to see the best Assassin then be disappointed then kill him, Every experts are under him that's because they are s*upid and so on) with this you can see the shallow ideals of the MC and this prove me how Chuuni the MC is, how can you possibly think this a wonderful world if every experts of this world are s*upid as siiiit and the MC is riding the wave of not OPness but with child opponents,

At least for me in other Chinese Novels the Opponents are overbearing had some powers to make their MC feel beatable but not s*upid as this.....

If I were you just read A Will Eternal... at least it will make you crank of much laugh, or the Coiling Dragon with depth power leveling, and many more unlike this siiiiit....

Ps. I will still read it but when this siiiit is unbearable ill stop... <<less

Spoiler

After the battle at the forest of Tianfa, out of jealousy, Dugu Xiaoyi planned to "cook rice" with Jun Mo Xie but she ran away because she was terrified of how he was behaving. If I'm not mistaken, he bit Dugu Xiaoyi around her neck or collar bone. Guan Qing Han (who is now the adopted daughter and also the reason Dugu Xiaoyi was jealous) arrived at the scene and realised Jun Mo Xie was drugged with aphrodisiac. Dugu Xiaoyi escaped and left her alone with him and she, in the name of repaying her debt because of Jun's family protection, stayed there and let him r*pe her to relieve him of the drug. Now, I know a lot of you will say she consented to it but to me she was just plain s*upid and it was a r*pe. Is she actually brain-dead character or what? This is actually the main reason why I had to stop reading this. If you read the novel until the chapter I stopped you will know how s*upid the female characters were described.

[collapse]

Like the previous reviews, I agree with what it said on how it lacks character building there is in the novel. The characters are s*upid beyond repair especially the women. It is also illogical how Dugu Xiaoyi wasn't educated about sex/ "cook rice" when the people at the time married early. Some of the details are basically invalid or unreasonable.

This is just my opinion. You're entitled to your own. <<less

The novel starts off with a cliché top-notch assassin transmigrating into the body of a tr*sh. The MC is calm, calculating, and basically have all the cheats that a cliché transmigrator would have. In the beginning, the goal of the MC is to strengthen his family's position and power in the kingdom while the MC also spends time cultivating so as to eventually reach the pinnacle of the world. The plots flows relatively well with little to no undying cannon fodders that keep on popping up.

On the down side, the side characters (mainly the harem members), are in the way of the story. Since the MC is calm and calculating, one would wonder why does the MC let his harem members order him around like a servant? Not to mention, the MC only loses his cool around his harem members, which is really inconsistent with his prior image in the beginning as a cold-hearted assassin. Basically, I find the harem members overbearing and very unlikable since I think the story would have been better off without a harem in the first place.

Overall, I enjoyed the first ~200 chapters until I got to the part where *slight spoiler* the female fox cultivator kept on spanking the MC's bu*t for really no good reason. It would have been fine to spank the MC's bu*t once due to a misunderstanding, but she kept on going at it for close to 2-3 chapters and ranting on how she felt humiliated/embarrassed/etc. Which was just a complete turn off. In general, I prefer cultivation novels without harem or romance (with some exceptions), but this novel was not an exception due to how there is no character development and some characters' personalities are gradually going bonkers.

So far the author is a liar. There is no evil at all. I couldn't help to interpret the synopsis above wrongly as it is can be interpreted as something serious. I didn't read the tag comedy before touching this novel. MC is more like a trickster or chaotic good alignment. The title is too misleading.

If you take this series seriously, it's a pretty bad novel because MC is too lucky. Hence it's no fun for those looking for novel with that kind of trait but if you read it... more>> for comedy, it's quite good. The world is pretty much filled with scheming/boot licking/shameless/[insert bad trait here] person. So each person will have at least one of that characteristic and they have some sort of weakness which will make them look like an idiot from reader's perspective. After that it just revolves around strategy to slap other's face, kill him/her or just to fulfill the objective/desire and those ends up pretty much into comedy. Now read the synopsis again with this information and you'll see it's actually comical.

Another bad part is when the author touches the subject of principle/philosophy or other kind of sermon, that's actually boring and too contradictory. It was okay for like first three times but just aware that you'll get these every 50 chapters or so. The author just like to write whatever fits the situation, hence the trickster. Some might like it but for me, who like to binge read, it's too deliberate and overused. <<less

Want to know a shameless debauchery turned deadly assissin named Jun Moxie? Tsk. Tsk. His slyness knows no bound. Holds the record for the most death angering sharpest tounge of twisted wit.

The story and plot is superb, with all angles moving together, with one meeting point of explosion where the plot will slowly unravels. The fighting scenes are amazing, and Moxie's shameless is as definitely high as the heavens.

I love this series pity that the current translator hasn't updated for a while which leaves me no choice for put this series on hold as I have now forgotten most of the side characters. Things I enjoyed about the MC is his shamelessness and also his fat friend :) the rolling meatball/bun I think he was called a few times?

155 chapters in, it's still outstanding. Excellent storytelling, regularly funny, and with a likable protagonist. Many other characters are complex and interesting as well, and even "bad guys" have understandable motivations behind their unlikable actions. Really, they can only be called bad guys because they oppose the protagonist, while the protagonist and his family and friends are no less terrible than their enemies.

Refreshingly, the novel hasn't focused on cultivation. At the same time, older adults tend to be significantly stronger than the younger generation, which is sensible. There are parts... more>> worth savoring, admonitions that hide themselves beneath the generic words and actions they criticize while offering deeper levels to the situation at hand. The story does have a couple of common flaws, but they're less pronounced than in most novels of the genre. <<less

Not a bad read but it leaves a lot to be desired to be honest.

The good things:

    1. Good side characters that have interesting stories.
    1. Interesting harem members that have their own charms and unique presence.
    1. MC is not s*upid but is not perfect as well leaving room for improvement and character development.
The things that made me disappointed:

    1. MC gets stronger very rapidly so whenever he breaks through during a challenging struggle, he becomes much stronger and his struggles become meaningless killing all the thrill of facing the challenge completely. Facing
      Spoiler

The royal family, Silver blizzard city, the three holy lands, the strange race invasion and even Zhan Kuang in the end. Each challenge sounded thrilling in the beginning only to end resolved within a boringly easy fights in the end

      [collapse]
    1. Some harem members like Dugu Xiaoyi, Guan Qinghan and Miao Xiaomiao got a good build up story and first time with the MC. However, the princess, green hunter, the silver city girl and the maid barely got any story. On top of that Qiao Ying and Mei Xueyan got so much build up only to have their conclusion skipped and only mentioned that they got with the MC in the final chapter. I'm specially bummed about the princess who seemed to be a good character from the beginning only to be treated as a freebie on the side in the end.
    1. The cultivation system is extremely convoluted with colors in the beginning. Also the MC having a completely different cultivation system makes makes it even more pointless. I really don't understand why would an author establish a world mechanic only to have the MC be completely ignore the said mechanic.
    1. Cultivators who lived for hundreds or thousands of years kill themselves so easily for no reason! The conclusion of the three holy lands was one of the most mind numbing and s*upid endings I've ever read and I've read a lot.
      Spoiler

Thousands of people killing themselves because a volcano erupted and destroyed their cities. Can't they just start over? They felt they have been useless or did wrong for many years, they could have just mended their ways and did better in the future. One person might not be able to take it and kill himself after giving up. Why would +7000 people do the same? Do they have no aspirations or desires? I find it utterly ridiculous!

      [collapse]
    1. The 300 squad he trained through the story still kept the same 300 number even though the author mentioned that they lost people from time to time. Additionally, since he has so many herbs and pills, why not make 1000 or more of such troops?
    1. The whole thing of the MC advancing to the peak of the Continent within ONE YEAR! What's more, the 300 troop and the Tian Fa forest residents kept up and advanced to Saint Emperors and Saint monarchs within the same period of time. I find that utterly disappointing as the story could have been fleshed more properly has the author taken his time and let the universe grow more slowly and steadily, the story would have been fleshed out in a better manner. One year is barely enough for any meaningful relationships to form yet the MC did everything within such a short period of time.
    1. The strange race thing. The whole reason for the war with them was only because they are joined half male and half female body so the humans refused to reason with them. The MC also felt disgusted of them but then he turns hostile when humans go against the Tian Fa beasts, the MC loses his shit. It's extremely hypocritical. They strange race was created that way, what can they do about it?
    1. The MC pointing at the Japanese and saying he wouldn't mind killing their whole population with the children included cuz of what the jap soldiers did when they invaded China. He also keeps taking pride in being Chinese glossing over the fact that the Chinese governments and Emperor's did similar or even worse to their own people than what the japs did. I just dislike when authors try to insert idiotic patriotism that didn't need to be brought up in a fantasy story. It just felt out of place.
Generally speaking the story is not bad but it doesn't go beyond the usual. I don't regret reading it and I did enjoy certain aspects of it so just read it if you want something basic with some promise even if it doesn't deliver on the said promise.

4/5 stars

The reason it's not 5/5 stars for me was because of how it can suddenly become really boring and frustrating for a long while before it becomes entertaining again. Aside from that, I think the story is great, I enjoy all 3 of Fengling's novels but to me, this one is special as it is the first one I decided to read out of those 3. It's fun watching how the characters interact or how Jun Moxie infuriates most of the cast, I wouldn't consider this novel to be... more>> a light snack from the current chapters but I wouldn't call it the main course either, it's more like a really heavy appetizer that could be mistaken as the main course. Though this might change in the future like in another 300 - 400 chapters after the plot advances more. <<less

An otherwise perfect novel if the author didn't try to make most lines based on how amazing the MC is and stating the obvious. There are way too many lines explaining how cunning and smart the MC is for doing this and that... And then the author seems to think his readers are 5 years old and has to state the obvious which sometimes kills the mood for instance, "To hell with your bargain! You’re only offering this chance for the sake of this Xuan Core!" Yes captain obvious you... more>> don't have to explain it I'm not dumb >_>

And then there are the forceful "philosophical" ideas that try to make the MC seem deep which really only makes him seem childish and presumptions. Also too many sentences end with "Ah" it makes me feel like characters are moaning instead sighing <<less

I’ve read 38 chapters. Whooo.

Now here’s the thing we have the typical reincarnation into a different body theme, and a peerless talent’s soul and mind. What does this equal? A good MC. The main problem? He ends up in a good for nothing's body. (Like usual but w/e). I’ve found myself giggling with glee at scenes, and in awe about how our dear MC deals with things. I honestly have high expectations from this novel. The only reason I said above is because it feels more thought out, and has more depth in the details, you can’t help but sit their going “Oh man, this guys good”. Or laughing silly at some funny bits of humor the author sticks in randomly. I recommend this if you like XianXia’s, and badass MC and a nicely thought-out political game and army training =P

Spoiler

(P.S I don’t know how this has a harem tag but at the current chapter length there no romance only hint’s at future romance and no harem in sight)

If anything I find this 100% better then Coiling Dragon or Peerless martial god or w/e.
