A world filled with heroes with superpowers. A world attacked by calamity fiends. A modern world filled with wonders and dangers.

Shi Xiaobai, a child from normal Earth, walked into such a world, proclaiming to be its king. But at the first signs of danger, he is forced to make a choice, one which he cannot refuse for time would repeat, making him face the choice again.

He is not humble nor is he modest, but neither is he delusional. Yet, the Absolute Choice seems to make fun of him. Will the joke be on him or will he laugh at his opponents? There will be many watching his escapades, and there will be some joining him in his adventures.

To see through the world and to grasp its truth, that is the destiny of the King.

It's a real pity this fell apart, but it's still worth reading what's available. The premise was decent, but what made this great was the execution. The comedy. I fondly remember absolutely rolling in the floor for some the moments in this one.

While the story is supposed to be ridiculous, it is ridiculous in the wrong way - it is the MC and his forced choices that should be bullshit, while the setting should serve as a "common sense" foil for them. But the world is equally ridiculous - if an instructor regularly fires students he has been teaching for just 2 or 3 days - it is that instructor that should be fired, as he completely failed in doing his duty.

Absolute Choice reminds me of those dumb s*upid hero tropes of American and Japanese comics in which MC goes on a journey to save the world after suffering some tragedy. Yeap! Oh I'm not spoiling anything. You can feel the s*upid vibes from start. Author couldn't think of anything better to serve as a motivation for the protagonist. Absolute Choice is a mixture of copying s*upid superhero tropes along with usual xuanhuan elements. Did I said that copying the character design from other works as well? Well, the cherry for... more>> this lovely cake is the dense protagonist who author wants us to believe is smart. Being naive as a child is fine but even children are not so dense!!! Then there is how s*upid the misunderstandings are (they are funny for the first time). A character who has lived for countless years get so easily fooled by a misunderstanding and starts loving our dense protagonist! Being a million year old monster means she can easily get fooled. Reason: she is a virg*n! Such smart writing! Author deserves award for this. The only good thing about this novel is the English translations.

this novel is absolutely fantastic, I wish I could read more of this kind of novels. The MC is confident, domineering, smart and his way of speech is simply captivating. <<less

There are several points to commend about Absolute Choice:
* Humor - there are few xuanhuan / xianxia novels around that have as many funny / weird moments as this one. Definitely a nice break from the usual too serious novel.
* Breaks from the usual cliche - the author puts in quite a bit of effort to make sure that things stay fresh. Sometimes, just when you think it is about to fall into the usual tropes, you come away pleasantly suprised.
* Unusual MC -... more>> the MC is a unique mix of arrogant and humble. What are sometimes arrogant words are actually just his own way of motivating himself, because he acknowledges his own weakness. He's different from Bai Xiaochun that he's not cowardly, but same puts on a brave front.

Some people might not like that sometimes events are too random (especially the absolute choice popups), but it somehow ties together cohesively further on. Recommended read. <<less

I'm not sure why the hate...

Sure putting a Saitama (one punch) in there is not original... but Chinese web novel are usually repetitive, the same kind of bad guys... same kind of MC, so introducing some look alike doesn't matter that much to me, besides the story starts quite well, the first interaction with riko and our MC is hilarious.

I've only read till chapter 15 so the story hasn't had much progress but so far is really promising, fresh, funny, and with a good pace so far.

I love this series so much, and I love the translator too!! If only we can remove previous translator update chapter, we will get less than 0.5 average for release frequency. Imagine 77 chapter in 20 days!! That is 0.259 orz praise the translator!

The series start by giving me cringe about all chuunibyou stuff mentioned in the first few chapter. I persist my way through after reading the author note (which is thankfully translated by the translator/CKTalon and compliment the series nicely). I still remember my budding excitement begin to... more>> grow after the appearance of one-punch man parody. Please at least you must try to read at that point. Reading the series at this point, you will notice that the chuunibyou stuff we mention earlier wasn't that childish/arrogant anymore.I think it feels more deep when a comedy series start to encroach in other contrary feeling such as sadness (the other example is AWE/ A Will Eternal)

The story is good, the comedy is exceptional, the translation speed and quality is superb. Thumbs up from This king!

Did I mention the absolute randomness in the series? Imagine you got two road to pick to go to town, road A which is made from stone, and road B from marble. Did you guess what MC choice? Of course it's a grass road which pass through the forest, before arriving at the town, you fool! <<less

I really wanted to like this novel. There's a whole lot of potential in it, but after about 60 or so chapters it just kind of fizzles out. I was in love with it around chapter 50, where I feel like the author finally just found the place where his characters could be themselves.... and then the rest of the plot moved on to pointless fights between side-characters, and everyone suddenly having misunderstandings thinking that the MC is doing s*xual things with every girl that he so much as glances... more>> at. It doesn't help that even after 200 chapters, I can only barely understand the MC himself. I can't connect with a character that follows no logic in how situations are dealt with.

The gimmick of an "Absolute Choice" really interrupts the flow of the novel too. It's going along at it's own pace, and it's getting exciting, and the MC is making it though challenges, and then the Choice shows up and forcibly moves things into a different direction. It's incredibly jarring.

When the name of the novel itself is actually one of the bad points about it, I really can't recommend reading it. <<less

Spoiler

The instructor for the rookies makes the MC go through curse of burning to unlock his first meridian. I wouldn't have a problem with that if the MC had a choice and the curse had a 1/10 sucess. If I read it right the MC didn't even know he just initiated that curse. This is just plain s*upid the higher ups in the org wants the girl who recruited him to seduce him then the instructor wants to play with him when he have 2x S potential the first one in the history of the organisation.

I didn't think much of it at first, but when I took a chance to read it, I was surprised. It's really cool and very new. In terms of originality, this takes the cake. A fantastic piece of work. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for something new or something to chew on for the moment. And kudos to the awesome translator for ISSTH to also picking up the awesome story!!

I don't even know how to express this so I'm going to start with a question: Have you ever seen filler made of misunderstandings?

You didn't read it wrong. Your usual novel has those typical moments where they spend paragraphs upon paragraphs to say how awesome the protagonist is and how arrogant/vile/s*upid the antagonist is and we have grown numb to it since a huge majority keeps it at an acceptable size, but this novel has these kinds of fillers with misunderstandings, trying to make the reader see the impossible and... more>> forced way they happen.

They weren't that bad until chapter 170 or so because the author had this amusing way of making it all sort itself out at the end of the arc so they were actually funny but afterwards they just get worse. It's as if every single person, no matter how young or old, thinks about s*x 24/7 and immediatly jump to a similar conclusion when two people of different genders only but glance at each other. The protagonist, when questioned by someone younger than him about a misunderstanding, never, absolutely never, even considers that they might be thinking that it's related to s*xual stuff.

For example: The protagonist and a girl spent an hour drawing a picture while alone in a room; Since they are children (between 12 and 15) they laugh at some jokes and for some reason a passerby heard the laughing and atributed it to moaning (for some unknown reason) and after they leave the room, said passerby questions the protagonist "Did you do 'it' with her?"; The protagonist thinks that the person is asking about the drawing (because of course everyone in the world knew they were just drawing right? Right?!) and responds "Yes, I did 'it' with her". <<less

Let me clarify a few points so that you, potential reader, can get the best of this novel (or not).

1. The Author is a rookie, so he's improving his style as the chapters go. The novel starts as a heavy comedy with a completely chuu2 MC in a world brimming with parody characters from japanese anime/manga. However, this quickly changes as the author improves, later on, frankly, I can't even get the references anymore since author starts introducing many original characters.

2. Misunderstandings. If you hate them, stop here and go... more>> back. They're mainly for the comedy though (obviously), and MOST (although not all) are funny.

3. Harem. There's none =D.

Spoiler

MC gets a girlfriend early on and every time a girl gets too close with him, he clarifies that he already have a lover and only one is enough. Also, his girlfriend isn't a decoration, she gets development as a character.

[collapse]

Although I said there's none, there's more girls in the MC's party. However, the secondary character's male/female ratio is quite balanced.

Spoiler

There's also a groping scene with Riko in the early chapters but the author stops that kind of BS ecchi development - at least physically, since there's still the groping when he's molding his ability

[collapse]

4. Comedy. Simply gold.

5. Absolute Choice. Later on the options are less ret*rded and aren't simply (A - Do the correct thing, B - Do the bad thing), becoming more vague so that the MC needs to investigate properly.

6. Romance. As a complement of (3). There's some in this novel, and it's really cute and nice.

7. Battles. One of the best points of the Novel. The MC is often on situations where he's outnumbered or in a disadvantage

8. Trolling (also related to 4). Like... seriously. MC's too troll.

A citation of a typical troll situation:
Spoiler

Shi Xiaobai was still in a sleepy state and was confused. He did not know what the fatso in front of him was talking about, but since he heard him ask about his game nickname, he half-heartedly answered, “IChooseDogLeading.”

Upon hearing this, IAmNoPig’s face flushed red for some unknown reason. With additional fury in his words, he said angrily, “Why are you scolding us? My brother can really take you flying into awesomeness. I’m not bullshitting! Quick, tell me what your in-game nickname is.”

Shi Xiaobai yawned again, and couldn’t figure out when he had scolded anyone, nor did he understand why the fatso kept asking him about his game nickname. As he was too tired to think, he decided to give his answer, emphasizing each word, “I... Choose... Dog... Leading!”

With this, the pig would probably get it, right?

IAmNoPig had indeed heard it, but he seemed to end up agitated. It was as though he wanted to go into a rage, but he suppressed his anger. He constantly puffed, “Hu... Hu... Hu... What is your game nickname?”

Shi Xiaobai became impatient and shouted, “Aren’t you irritating? IChooseDogLeading! IChooseDogLeading! IChooseDogLeading!”

IAmNoPig was immediately infuriated. He immediately dragged his flabby body towards WindWithoutTrace. His anger-filled footsteps caused the ground to tremble as he had an aura of hostility and indignation. He lamented to WindWithoutTrace, “Brother Wind, this kid rather gets led by a dog than lets you take the lead. What should we do about this?”

[collapse]

Now for the bad points you'll realize through the novel:

1. The power levels are a mess. Is the second realm strong? Weak? MC goes on some awesome adventures with most characters being genius teenagers of the first realm, but how strong are they compared with the average hero? Rank F? E? C? It's not explained at all.
To get things even more complicated, the author introduces a Body Tempering Realm (body density/defense) later on, and we only know the MC's level for reference...

2. The abilities...
Movement Abilities: There's the crab steps, wind steps, ox steps, cloud steps, lightning steps, whatever steps, NU steps, steps steps and It's not explained what's the difference between them (like If one is better in straight lines, maneuverability, dodging).
Attack Abilities: Pure name shouting (except the MC's) and their effects aren't really explained (there's only one chapter where Onepun explain some - ch180~200). At least the author is good in writing the battles.

To finish it... this novel is not perfect, but it's definitely a good one for laughing and there's some crazy awesome action later on (by the time you know the term 'DogLeading', the action is already starting to get good).

I will add more later. <<less

Story started out okay-ish, still entertaining. But it just got frustratingly ret*rded by chapter 31. It is annoying to read how utter s*upid everyone in the association seems to be. I just can't recommend it based on how s*upid it is. It is not even s*upid in a funny way, just insulting to the reader, and it completely ruins all belief in the world that has been build up. No organisation would ever work the way it does. The only reason why what happened could happen was because of s*upid... more>> luck and obvious forced plot. The world is set up to be a semi-normal modern day earth-like planet, and yet killing and torturing kids seem to be totally acceptable. As to what actually happens:

Spoiler

MC is fooled into using a "technique" that can help him get stronger fast, problem is though that it has only a 10% success rate, and failure means a painful death. Note that this is done to a 13-year old who knows nothing of the world or its cultivation. Oh, did I mention that it was hyped up how important the MC is to the organisation, as he is super duper talented, and someone that the organisation will do everything to nurture. Which ofc makes it an obvious act to send him to somewhere where he will have a 90% chance of death before even training him. And even if he survives (ofc he does), why the hell would any reasonable person not go: "f*ck this ret*rded piece of sh*t place, I am joining one of the other organisations which is obviously not run by lunatics". Something the upper management very much want to avoid. If you have not noticed, I am so dam frustrated and annoyed by this novel. I want to like it, I very much do, but I just can't.

I am also not a fan of the characters "inspired" by mange/anime characters. <<less

Gotta say that I don't usually write reviews or anything of the sort, but I just can't let people give up on this novel solely based of the fact that some of the characters have similarities to other animes or the like. The author himself has mentioned he did this on purpose and mostly as a joke, nevertheless the story quickly moves away from these characters and gets it owns charm of sort

Such as the many misunderstanding caused by the MC's personality (btw this does gets explained later on in the story and GOD DAMN IS IT INTERESTING!)

This novel has an interesting premise but author failed to truly capitilize it thus reducing that fresh & interesting premise into a literal plot armor & a way for author to go off tangent, increasing words count without advancing the story.

There moments where author narrative shines however this moments usually occured when author goes off tangent.

All in all this novel rated 1 star because author wrote this instead of spastic or rom-com genre instead.

WARNING: This novel is COMEDY FIRST and everything else later. It does have its serious moments (unlike most casual JP LNs) but if you come here expecting crude xuanhuan tropes; you're better off not reading this.

Perfect blend of JP and CN themes. The MC isn't pathetically incompetent like many JP protagonists, nor intolerably arrogant like most CN protagonists. Has background, character growth, inner demons to overcome, trials of life; but its comedy and humor is its main selling point. Other characters are quite deep; in fact up to this point... more>> there have been no typical 'tr*shy' cardboard cutout xianxia villain. And the romance.. ooooh! Far better than most CNs where the girl almost always needs saving from the boy despite being sooo much more powerful; and after a while is delegated to a follower. Not here, the (super-OP) heroine actually acts realistically: monitors and aids her lover's growth so that they may stand side by side one day.

Counterpoints to points mentioned in popular negative reviews:

1) Ridiculous World: As mentioned, the fact the world is slightly ridiculous is itself a selling point, and the author doesn't shy away from this. Most xuanhuans don't: worlds millions of miles big??? Earth radius is some 24k miles you know! Thousands of worlds, realms; but all they have is only one culture?? Our small world itself has such fascinating cultural diversity, that sometimes when reading TMW/MW/DW etc I want the author to provide some reasonable explanation why everywhere chinese culture dominates; even something like a million year old war of conquest bringing all worlds under a single culture would at least be somewhat plausible.

2) Idiotic Instructor: If you read, you'll know that the organisation (sect) that the instructor and the MC belongs to is in decline, and the instructor himself is very powerful that his presence alone is worth loss of many sub-standard potentials. As for the 'cruel' test he offered the MC with only 1/10th survival chance without the MC even knowing about it: readers, it is mentioned a couple of chapters later that another of MC's mentors gave him a magical waterdrop before for other purposes which prevented him from dying under that test, and the instructor was aware of that. And that the instructor wants to subject the MC to 'inhumane' trials to temper him faster is totally plausible (at least to me) given his personality and the dominant world ideologies (which fundamentally differ from ours).

3) Similarities to other characters from other mangas/novels: This is actually a valid point, and it annoys even me; but considering that its nowhere to the level of Law of the Devil; I can accept it, the good points of this novel are numerous despite this. And yes, sometimes its quite funny too.

4) Annoying MC: Most subjective aspect, nothing I can do about it. If you like him, read on; if you don't like him, drop it. But considering this novel is likely to have some actual character growth, even if you drop it, don't delete it from you read list; some couple years late (and ~500 chaps translated) try it once more and see if he changes more to your liking.

P.S. Reading this I wondered if someday someone would be willing to write about a transmigrated JP (or someone from the modern world who struggles to keep their liberty/equality ideologies instead of becoming annoyingly ruthless) protagonist in a CN themed wuxia world. Perhaps I'll write one someday on RR... <<less

A disappointing read, Not really recommended. Read if you're out of other novels.

First the Description is false as Shi Xiaobai already knows at this point in time that he has to choose one of the choices and the choice shown in the description has not happens yet so it must happen in the future if at all so why would he act like that. While the MC is offered the troll choices he doesn't get anything from doing them not even the lowest level of rewards.

The Author has ripped characters... more>> appearances and occasionally personality straight from Hunter x Hunter, and other anime/manga. Not really a negative trait for a rookie but most certainly not a positive one either.

The Chuunibyou antics of the MC are unique and funny. The MCs brash and self-confidant personality was nice but the author had a chapter that explains that its just a facade. <<less

Spoiler

The comedy in this novel is gold. I personally like it. It's a mixture of bold shamelessness and life teaching lessons that will attract onion cutting ninjas.

Story:
The author seems to be guiding the story in a very cliched direction. There's mention of a 4th apocalypse and I imagine that the MC will be the saviour or somethin like tat. Besdies that the plot is mainly the MC completing funny choices at awkward times which ranges from confessing his love to asking for a guy's underwear. This author is golden imo. This story has a spot similar to issth in my heart. Why? Because the author incorporate life lessons in it. It feels genuine. The emotions are overspilling and the MC will bring you through one hell of a journey

Characters:
Now, this seems to be a main problem. Most people here stopped reading because the author used similar characters from animes and there was one part that even I got turned off by it but i'll assure you. That's only for the beginning chapters. No rip offs after chapter 62 and the story is really good for you to drop it for the minor difference in preference. Most characters have their own personality with their own backstory. And the best part of them all, they act like normal human beings. Overall, best characters i've seen in a while catering to the large spectrum of weird people as a whole.

Till ch. 92 review

Spoiler

This story is still golden. Ignore all those nay sayers that tells thou to drop this novel. A novel with the most substance you can f*cking find on this site. It has everything. Shamelessness, humour, action, slight romance, bromance, darkness, gags. Anything you can imagine. Most of all, it has feelings. You can resonate with the MC. You know that he's weak. You see that he is trying so hard to improve. You'll get so immersed in his journey that you will root for him. Recent chapters got so many feels I'm taking baths with my tears.

[collapse]
CK is doing an amazing job pumping out chapters with exceptional quality. Overall, would strongly recommend people to read till chapter 12 and 68 before judging. That's when the comedy peaks and shows the style of the author. This story is a love it or hate it story. But regardless of what your opinion might be after reading it, this masterpiece should definitely be given a chance. I'll be constantly refreshing my reviews for this piece.

The cover makes me cringe and the description really put me off reading this novel for quite a long time. This is a novel full of misunderstandings and I now find it funny how those two things gave me such a big misunderstanding.

I just read the latest chapter and I sincerely hope that those who only read a few chapters and dropped the novel or even rated it 1 star give it another try and at least try to understand that they misunderstood or simply didn't bother giving the novel... more>> a chance.

Out of all the novels I've read AC has best comedy, best misunderstandings and I even cried at the latest chapter. It does a great job of setting things up and the author gives plenty of foreshadowing. The action scenes are good and the description don't go overboard either. I would honestly recommend this to anyone who reads novels.

Oh and many thanks to CKtalon for translating this wonderful novel. <<less

Well if you just disregard the fact that some of the characters are rip off then you can really enjoy this novel and besides those characters also have their own personality. Absolute Choice feels refreshing after reading quite many novels. Authors writing style is really good and translations are done fast and extremely well. (I love TMW, also based on that I have high hopes as the translator chose this one as his other project). It’s really nice to read a modern/scifi styled cultivation novel, and while it’s still in the beginning, this feels really promising series. There is a cool time loop element in the novel, but so far it hasn’t been explored much. Also the cultivation system hasn’t been... more>> explained much, but it feels pretty similar to other novels, so I’m waiting eagerly what unique functions this novel will bring to it. It’s interesting enough, so that I plan on reading RAWs to around 50-100 to see how the world/story develops. Will update my review after that. <<less
