This was... really bad...?

I liked the pacing, and the constellation ideas behind the world building and magic were briefly interesting, if not developed in any meaningful way.

The set of characters were interesting enough in the starting city, but then everything becomes belaboured as soon as they leave for the vast world of boringness. MC gets OP thanks to the cheat item he picked up, gets sent down a different route from any other relevant character in the novel and travels through dimensional gates as if it's nothing (despite no one... more>> else doing this) with random bodyguards that appeared, seducing random shop owners and riding his mecha-ostrich!

Had lots of potential, so I'm sad it flopped so badly T_T <<less

There are two aspects to my review: One, how this works as a novel and second, how this works as one of the chinese WN lot.

One of the popular refrains on Chinese WNs being repetitive and too focused on word count is that they are like fast food, they should be enjoyed and the negative aspects ignored. And it is for those people I will say, please read this novel. It has all the things you would find in a Chinese WN:

tr*sh at cultivation and a mysterious treasure to increase... more>> strength? Check.
Offending young masters of some strong clans? Check.
Repetitive and sometimes confusing cultivation? Check.
Fights after Fights? Check.

But there is a small difference. It tries to give characters a backstory, even if a minuscule one to show what their motivations are. Sure some of them are shallow and are not well drawn out but it is at least there unlike you will find with other WNs. Now even the "offending the young master" arcs are swiftly done and resolved. They don't spend time on young master lackey fighting the MC and then MC upgrading, and then there being another set of lackeys, and MC upgrading. So it is pretty straightforward. My rating for this novel is 3 as a standalone novel which gets raised to 4 when I compare it with other WNs on offer. <<less

After 99 chapters, I couldn't read further because the writing is bad the story line is going nowhere. I got bored. The locations of the story jump all over the place and the fights are not interesting. After I stop caring about the main character, I start skimming the chapters hoping it would get better but it didnot. 2 stars out of 5.

The world build and cultivation system are both very interesting and different, but unfortunately the novel suffers from some very vague and confusing descriptions and general narrative.

At first I assumed that this was just due to the writing style of the author. But after noticing that the novel is by the same author as of World of Cultivation, which is a superbly written and translated work of art, I can only think that the translator unfortunately doesn't accomplish getting the translation perfectly across.

This is a real shame, and that being... more>> said the novel is still an entertaining read if you can just bear through it during the confusing passages, though nowhere on the same level as World of Cultivation of the same author. <<less

This starts out slow but gets a lot better in later chapters. It has its charms

In regards to the common complaint that the MC never loses, that is just early on when he faces lowbies. Later on he does loses a couple of times to much stronger opponents

The claim that this is a shared universe with World of Cultivation is a blatant lie

The majority of this novel is enjoyable but the ending is appalling. Honestly calling it an ending is being overly kind to it. The last page of the novel basically consists off "The main antagonist dies for no reason. Someone screams for no reason. It's five years later for no reason. The end." I wish that was an exaggeration. Beyond the ending failing to explain anything or wrap up any plot threads its also simply terrible in execution.

I don't see how this has such a good rating. Unless the story gets a lot better in the future. The MC is way too childish for my liking. He is in his late teens and acts like he is 8 or younger. The arguments are s*upid and he can be easily manipulated into doing things he didn't want to do.

This is a light hearted novel that brings a smile to your face. It lightens your mood with the comedy sequences between the characters which appear genuine.

The story moves wonderfully, keeping you guessing as to what is going to happen next. The MC will always get stronger but his journey to understand himself, his power and the people around him creates unique situations within the story to keep the readers hooked on. His naiveity and innocence are especially endearing.

I recommend this story which is unique and different compared to all... more>> the blood and gore in other LN. <<less

Avarage story. So at first it was kinda of interesting but it was just "ehh". But it gets better but then it gets worse again real fast.
Spoiler

So first off I wana talk about the translation, idk if the translators are bad or the author is just terrible at math and has no concept of time period. So he starts the story as a 17 year old and about 40 months later (real time) he's still 17 which makes no since. (Not including training room time) and the constellations are extremely confusing especially at first since he never explains them until later in the story. Like he never explains anything really so expect a lot of confusion.

2. Plot is just not good.
Ok so the MC is supposed to save his girlfriend from danger in a super far away constellation that she managed to get to in less then 3 months but he has been trying for like a year at this point, he has nooo urgency it's laughable. He just goes to every nearby place and gets into trouble for months at a time while his girlfriend the one he is "soooo" desperate to save is just left to rot.

3 the companions.
The one thing that I really like about this story is how the MC actually has companions that travel with him and we see growing and fighting together.

4 the fights.
The fights are not the worst but not the best. They don't drag which I LOVE but a lot of them are just not interesting.

5. The MC.
So the MC is basically a strong idiot he's like Goku but not as nice. He pretty funny which is nice.

6. Reason I'm dropping
The reason I'm dropping is simple, the author didn't really think anything through. Way to many plot holes and they just keep pileing up and I'm sick of guessing about stuff that we should know. Example (We don't know what rank any of the companions are or the enemy's). But the thing that got to me the most is how the MC all the sudden has a split personality where it's basically 2 people sharing one body and it's just do s*upid smh.

I really love the author (Fang Xiang) for making this wonderful novel. The comedic interaction of the MC with his companions is really fun to read plus his shameless promotion of being the godly handsome young lad is really funny XD. Hmm although the novel follows the troupe of being weak to strong cultivation novel you will still not lose your interest in reading this 'cause it just have that element that makes you to read it

This is so well written.

The start is slow, and somehow uninteresting, but never boring. The comedy is top grade.
Later on the story slowly picks up and stays very good. The great thing I like about this novel is that the MC is not alone, he has comrades that improves with him, everyone with their own history and speciality. Everyone has his own defined character and innately different that everybody else.

The author also likes to plant seeds at the end of every arc so that person/thing involved will appear later... more>> and not be forgotten.

One thing I dislike (or like?) about this novel that it never wastes any moment, the author will never write anything just to increase the word count, to the point that everytime I read a chapter I think I skipped the one before until I confirm that I didn't :)

Great novel. The MC reminds me of the child-like savagery of the Little Guy from PW or Goku from the original Dragon Ball, with a dash of Luffy from OP. He's a very simple tyrant who loves to fight and train, and the world the author creates for Tang Tian to inhabit is beautifully imagined, based on the notion of dividing the "world" into constellations. Fang Xiang is really a fantastic author in that he manages to weave backstory, foreshadowing, and unseen plot threads throughout the novel giving it exponentially... more>> more depth than you average xianxia novel. So far this one has been a lot of fun and it's a great new addition to the TN stable. <<less

Tang Tian was little too shonen for me but he calmed down a little near the end so I guess that can be considered a character arc.

The author should have either written an army novel or a cultivator novel, going back and forth between the army being the strongest to the cultivator being the strongest was tiring and messy.

Way too many chapter are wasted on one shot side characters that add little to nothing to the story.

The final arc was a rushed mess. Many elements built up during the novel were dropped in the final arc.

The split personalities went nowhere and was dropped. Tang Tian didnt meet his father or the commander. And Bing never showed up at the end.

The final fight with the great clan elder was terrible. Tang Tian with his new power up that should put him above everyone else sneak attacks the great clan elder with an arrow and wins.

It ends with a five year timeskip with Tang Tian waking up from a coma on the last sentence.

Cannot recommend because of its terrible unsatisfying open ended ending with too many questions left unanswered. I recommend the far better fully translated novel World of Cultivation by the same author. <<less

A basic, 'if you look at me the wrong way, I will kill you' story. In this fantasy world where there is no order, no police and no policing, just the law of the jungle, the MC can just kill anyone and walk away.

Spoiler

The writing is bland and boring, with nothing to recommend it. Characters are uni-dimensional - either they are with MC or they are not. If they are not, they will create trouble for MC and will get killed in the end - for example, the unfortunate Mr. Kong, who wasn't actually trying to harm the MC, only trying to sweep him aside due to a misunderstanding, but the Godlike young man killed him and a few others all the same.

Recommendations: If you like reading good novels, avoid. If you like reading crap like Emperor's Domination, BTTH, ATG, Martial Asura etc, then by all means this crap is exactly your cup of tea.

For those who like to read good novels I recommend Ze Tian Ji, Death Sutra, Pivot Of the Sky, Nightfall, Chronicles of Primoridal Wars. <<less

This novel has made the same mistake world of cultivation made. It was so identical that I actually stopped reading just now to look up the author to see if it was the same person, and yup! Same author! The mistake this author constantly makes is slowly losing focus on the main character and instead focusing on some incredibly boring war. Going on and on about the formations of the army that was built up, focusing on the mentor like character that lives inside the mc's body who... more>> is leading the army. I don't know why this author seems to be obsessed with war tactics, but if that's the case, write a novel based on that. Stop taking a novel that has to do with cultivation and getting stronger, and convert it into a different genre. Not what we signed up for.

Another thing that hasn't happened yet but I'm extremely worried will happen is the author destroying his own main character's personality. In world of cultivation, the MC had a hilarious personality, and was a joy to follow. However, about half way through, he suddenly turned into a generic straight man MC, just another boring trope of a character for seemingly no reason. I understand characters have to mature, but this was less of a character maturing and more of a complete swap of personalities. Whether or not this happens in this novel will determine whether the score goes up or even lower.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the site it's hosted on, translationnations, is an utter piece of junk. Right now I've been clicking next chapter over and over again for 15 minutes, and it just sits there and loads. This has happened tons of times, enough to the point where I'd rather read it on one of the Rip off sites. <<less

I like the novel. It is about a natural born fighter that also works his but off training his body and learning techniques. Think about it in terms of a natural born genius that trains. To put it in perspective think of yourself give yourself a power rating of 5 out of 10 as in average you. Now think of yourself if you trained day and night and eventually you have a six pack abs and run ten miles a day. Most people would now rate their trianed self at... more>> 10 out of 10. Most people that read this novel over look the difference between average Joe and GI Joe. Even if you are a born fighting genius you still need to exercise to increase your stamina and speed... ect. To put it in perspective if you put a trained and in shape boxer in the ring with a boxer that didn't train at all and got lazy, the real life results would be a tragic out come for the lazy boxer. The other part of training that people over look is the training through fighting method. Why is it so hard to be a martial arts grand master? The reality is that so many good students get injured/disabled because of the training through fighting method. Only the lucky or those with great endurance or a natural fighter could pull off reaching such a level. So why use such a s*upid method to train with, because a fighter needs to fight. You can teach someone martial arts and they can workout on the treadmill, but that doesn't make a soldier or a martial artist. Also the best way to unlock the hidden strength of a soldier is life and death struggles. Imagine you running on the beach with a kite. Now imagine you being chased by a mother bear. Which you ran the hardest... FYI don't try running from bears they tend to chase fleeing anything unless it just wanted to run you off, and then you are lucky.

In short the MC is a natural born fighting genius that exercises to an unreal level and through institution and thanks to his training is able to overcome other geniuses that may have a good reputation or may be good on paper, they may even be a super soldier, but this is the story not about average Joe or even GI Joe, but this story is about the one student that becomes the master. Of course every master overcomes an unreal amount of geniuses on the road to the top. This isn't about a martial arts disciple it is about how the Masters fought his way to the top. Think of a NFL legend now imagine his path to Glory starting from peewee football camp. Does he just pick up a football and one day he is a legend or does he have to triump over odds that are unrealistic. Doesn't a football legend succeed where countless other people failed and doesn't it take lucky breaks to even get in the NFL much less be a legend. This is the story of that legend and his lucky breaks and his life and death battles to the top, you can't reach the top of any thing if you died before you get there. So I think less of plot armour and more about how did this guy get to the NFL if a guy is in the NFL is it plot armour or did he train and train and even with all the skills and exercise and with a great coach he still had to have had many lucky breaks. Also are football players known for their IQ? No they can be dumb but not lazy not a quitter and not unlucky.

This simple warrior rises to the top in the same way through physical training he exhaust his opponents and kills them when they tire. He has a natural fighters body and instinct and is fierce and doesn't slack off. He wins though perseverance and will power. Try doing as ton of exercises with out will power. Is this a NY times best seller no, but it is more realistic than novels where the protanist is a doctor/ con man/ fighter/magician/black smith. Also he doesn't spend countless chapters running away. His enemies become friends or the don't return home from the war <<less

I really like this novel.

Okay. The MC is dumb, whatever. He's smart in battles, and that counts a lot. Heck, he even learns battle strategies. In other times, his "s*upidity" is used for comedic relief. But he isn't utterly dumb. MC goes through a lot of changes, and doesn't have a harem. The MC's strongest attribute would be his thirst for victory. Oh, and he acts more like a hoodlum or gangster than some young master. Nouveau riche~

Side characters are awesome. Gotta love Bing. Their reactions, skills, and personalities are... more>> awesome. The smaller side characters are memorable.

Plot twists are awesome. Also, MC's mysterious background doesn't get revealed until after Ch. 500-ish.

There are TWO MCs! A fool and a little fool. :D

I have read from Ch.1. It was slow at first and became more interesting after he left his own home and went on adventuring. It was even more interesting when MC got two friends to become his right/left hand men. The training/fighting descriptions were detailed and superb. There are occasionally comic moments to lessen the serious plot, such as the latest chapter of teasing a young child whose name was Orange, but MC and one of his friend agreed that she looks like Apple, so MC wondered why she was... more>> named Orange? This caused no small grief to the young girl, necessitating the only serious/sensible/intellectual friend to console her, telling her she was pretty and gave her a little hair piece in the shape of a little crane. This is my favorite read, as good as I Shall Seal the Heaven. <<less

A funny, action-packed adventure that has a nice back story and a set of interesting characters. Reminds me of Naruto in a way, with the MC being idiotic and amazing in his own way. He works hard, like REALLY hard, to get to where he is, and I think that it's refreshing considering how other MCs power up non stop with precious pills and cheat cultivation techniques. Anyway, some of MC's antics do remind me of Zuo Mo (coz yeah, same author), but that makes the reading all worthwhile.

June 3, 2016:

Still too early to tell, and looks like it will take quite a while to get going. It's quite slow paced like the author's other work, 'World of Cultivation'. The story is about a hard working MC, whose secret treasure is all about repetition to the point of exhaustion. Thus almost every chapter have paragraphs of the MC training and training. Unlike other stories that dump many characters at the get go, this one takes the long scenic route. 25 chapters in and only a handful of important... more>> named characters are introduced. There is a vague long-term goal at least. The writing style is a little dryer than World of Cultivation, not as fanciful and more direct. Decent, though it is one of those titles that require longs of chapter stacking to keep the reader interested.

May 3, 2018

Nearly two years later, the novel has been fully translated. My initial reaction after reading the final chapter was: "what the hell, what a cop-out". First, dialogue is decent. But later on they virtually faded into the background as the MC takes center-stage to save the day, and by the end of the novel some of them are never mentioned again. Secondly, progression. There is a vague sense of a general story being moved along. Alas, one can only take so many chapters of the MC powering up, there are times when I skipped entire chapters when it is obvious that they only involve the MC challenging himself without anyone else seeing it.

The pay-off at the final chapter is not worth the effort and patience. Many questions remain unresolved. The ending had the feel of a TV series expecting to be renewed for another season, only to be abruptly canceled. It is barely a conclusion at all. The cliche of a "white light, fade out and then time skip!" is in full force, and you are not told what actually happened leading to the final scene. Just because of this ending alone, I'm going to have drop this to a 2-star rating. <<less
