I Reincarnated as a Noble Girl Villainess But Why Did It Turn Out This Way? (WN)

Eliza Kaldia, who reincarnated as a noble girl villainess in a fantasy otome game, was stuck in a world that seemed far from her image of how noble girls should be living, as the fated events of the game were still far off while she remained a child. In the first place, it was suspected if she could even live to make it to the school setting of the game. Due to changes in the situation of the neighboring country which never appeared in the original game, the world became nothing like the flowery school life from the game. It was a world where even young girls had to take up weapons. How did it turn out this way…

I don’t have any cheat-like abilities. I can’t use magic. Though, my sense of ethics might have become a little twisted due to being reincarnated.

Story is amazing without a doubt much more a military story then a cliche villainess one. However, fair warning the author (not translator) has dropped the novel so you will be left hanging at the time of this review. I still recommend reading what's there it's that good after all.

This story basically use the 'typical' reincarnated to otome girl background at first glance, but this is definitely NOT a fluffy romance. All of these cliche and overused elements are used just as catalysis to jump start the story, it's a vicious and realistic story of politics and military development. The MC also have no cheat power nor advantage of modern knowledge to help her developing her kingdom...

In short, all common Isekai story is nonexistent, and... if you're looking for otome romance all tags in this story while not wrong... more>> is very misleading because there's no love interest, no school yet and the story start with her killing her whole family at 2 and fighting war at 6.

In overall, I am very satisfied with this story that use typical isekai background but keeping the originality if not taking a completely different route.

A couple of warning if you didn't see the last line of summary... Once the war start, it emphasized heavily that war is a completely gray area where chivalry is outdated and moral is overrated. Rather than proving who is right, it's more about who can finish the war with their side in upper hand.
Some of the war scene will push your button as if mention the worst facet of war, such as child soldier, excessive cruelty, raid, and so on. <<less

Let's be honest here. I came here expecting something awesome due to the comments and I did like this story at first (2017 me was naive af)

But now after reading this again I realized how many glaring plot holes and forced writing was present.

Like how the f did a 2 yr old kill her family. Like yoooooo even an adult would feel troubled to do that task.

... more>> Also throwing MC into training as a 6 yr old is insane. Like she could die from that shit.

Also the secondary plot about that boy who's acting as her body double (who's most definitely a half brother of hers) is too forced.

Tbh the MC is not a compelling protagonist but I do like her perseverance.

All in all 2 stars <<less

If you're ok with a 12 year old using vlad Dracul worse methods to go to war, go ahead !
the war trope start with the girl being 6, it's absolutely gore, sad and unforgiving and no, it cannot be « realistic » for god sake, the MC is barely older than a toddler, even as a reincarnation or transmigrator, physical development limits exist - they include brain development limits and such...

even if you pretend the character is twice that age, the violence and gruesome choice to torture the... more>> audience Are simply appalling

Note that you have to endure an absolutely nonsensical psychotic MC, mostly unfeeling and unrealistic : you can never get how one would become that kind of expressionless person, talking about righteousness with arogance and while fully embracing a perfectly unequal society modem (I'm a noble abide by my orders)
if that wasn't enough, add a few disgusting reasoning to « justifiy « the worst of warfare - how can such a character have the memories of a teenager raised in modern 21rst century ?? ! <<less

Why even bother adding the otome game background to this story...

The story goes into mu*derhobo territory where the female MC gets combat training at like age 7, Eliza and her two dragoncis companions slaughtering an entire army in just a few sentences, a mass child bomber that get conveniently forgiven once she joins the MC side and sooooo much angst past a certain death earlier on in the story.

Turns out it's looking like Eliza will be getting some special abilities soon since some strong organization decides to intervene for her... more>> during a losing fight and dab some of that M A G I C stuff onto her after calling off the opponent with some 'chosen one' flower garbage.

Can't believe I fell for the "It gets better after 200 chapters" meme for another story again. There are too many ridiculous things you have to suspend your disbelief for too. <<less

As most other reviews have said, at least up to chapter 110, completely ignore the name of this novel and the genre it implies. This is a novel about a young girl who becomes the lord of her domain at an extremely young age and how she handles it. The fact that she's in a world from an otome game as of this point has absolutely 0 impact on this story aside from the fact that she's a character from the game. Not once has there been a situation that... more>> happened in the game, where she can use her memories from the game to help her. Not once has she met any other characters FROM said game. The fact that she's reincarnated is yet another trope the author threw in most likely due to a fad, since besides her being wise for her years, it has absolutely no impact on the story. She has no special items or abilities due to her reincarnation. In all honesty, I'm 99% sure you could throw away the whole otome and reincarnation thing, and it would have no impact on the story.

This is mistake WAY too many authors make. They make the character a reincarnated character, but it ends up meaning absolutely nothing to the story itself. This can still make some sort of sense if the person reincarnates into a body that's somewhat grown, as it lets the reader learn about the world along with the main character. However, too many times, like in this novel, the person is reincarnated as a new born. It's just needless. Neither this character nor so many others ever use any ideas, science, or what not to give them an edge in this new world they're in. Just a silly fad authors have been jumping on.

It's more like a military novel. It's about her growing up, (as of right now I'm at chapter 110 and she's only progressed to age 9 I think), training in her barracks with the other soldiers, fighting one battle, and taking care of matters concerning her lands.

To be honest, it's pretty boring. It's one of those novels that feels like you're reading a script. MC does this. Then MC does that. It lacks the flavor of telling a story as a story, and more of telling a story as facts, if that makes sense. I've been waiting for something interesting to happen, and besides that one battle, nothing has popped out. That's not to say I only find battles interesting. Witty supporting characters, interesting schemes and conversations. Even some sort of romantic interest would be interesting. There's none of that. Maybe some of this will happen later on in the novel, but for her to still be at age 9, doing the SAME things she's been doing since about chapter 10 at chapter 110, it's way too slow. I can see this is still an ongoing light novel series, and I have a feeling that unless the author gets bored of it and cuts it short in an awful fashion, this is going to be a pretty long series.

Anyway, if you're into the idea of an MC who at a young age trains in the military and learns how to become a Lord of her lands, this novel is for you. If you're looking for a novel like Destruction Flag Otome, where the MC is pretty much playing out HER version of the character in the game, and interacting with other game characters (usually a bunch of guys and the female lead from the game), don't bother with this novel. It's absolutely NOTHING like that. At least not in the first 100 chapters. <<less

It may not be a fluffy romance comedy harem otome game recarnation novel but don't be put off by it. It's dark, teary and emotional. The MC is filled with guilt because she killed her entire family at the age of two which derailed the whole otome game thing in the story. Each character is written realistically portraying the hidden side of the female MC. To sum up, I'm glad I found this novel and I can't wait to get to the ending of this great story

What a great novel, one of my favourites. One in which the MC doesn't have cheats or a lot of knowledge (because the MCs always have knowledge in agriculture af, but why?) and she doesn't have it easy. I wish someone would pick the novel again.

This novel is definitely not as light hearted as the title makes it out to be.

This isn't your usual "omg I reincarnated/transmigrated into a otome game and will change my fate with my game knowledge" plot. The novel makes use of the otome game setting to position MC in a world, that is full of war and tragedy. And MC isn't an excited little girl, who can so easily change her fate. She is a young woman who had a lovely family and a good life in the body of... more>> a child, whose family is full of tyrants and whose fiefdom's people are suffering under their tyranny. The contrast between what was (her former life) and what is (her life now), is shown very well in the novel. The ensuring inner conflicts due to MC's circumstances are so well described, that one actually feels the main character's pain. Furthermore you don't just get a MC who actually feels real but also side characters that are not neglected and have their own place in the story. Also the plot isn't just one big theme (war) but has many subplots that aren't unnecessary and make the story even better.

I recommend this novel to everyone, who wants a bit more depth to the usual otome game setting and a darker, mature plot. <<less

This ain't no Otome game LN. Damn this is all about our cruel war master Eliza. Well she is a softie on the inside and a good person too and only acts to protect people but still its a shame she got bad reputation. First 20-30 chapter are MEH but then comes the cruel reality of this LN. Nothing went right and sh*t went down at the first war at the Jugfena Fort

and I seriously like this novel for not being typical otome game novels with dumb female MCs

Overrated series. First chapter is nice with the ruthless poisoning but everything else is boring. Nothing happens and the MC gets nothing done. A lot of content about nobles and politics but once again the MC just goes with the flow and quotes those themes as if you are reading a history book. There is no territory management by her and everything is done by her guardian. She's still 6 years old by chap31 without any accomplishments whatsoever.

While the premise is the reliving of an otome game, the MC doesn't... more>> know anything about the world or the future events of the game aside from her family being executed in the end. Being a reincarnator also has no effect on the story at all except for not acting her age. There is no magic until now and everyone trains sword/spear including the MC, but so far there's no action at all for any character. No war, action, romance, drama, adventure, nor territory management, not even food p*rn.

Maybe it'll get better in later chapters but I'll never know. <<less

Do not read this if you want "otome game romance."

This novel is a gem, but don't think that you're going to get the typical "born as a cannon-fodder/villainess in an otome game" plot -- this is a full-on war story with believable characters, high-stakes, and the duties of nobility. It is more of a slice-of-life story focused on politics and economics. You will find no fluff or shoujo shenanigans here.

Summary:

At the tender age of two, Eliza mu*ders her entire monstrous family and becomes the domain lord of Kaldia. Despite vague... more>> memories of another life and knowledge that her teenage self is supposed to be a petty villain in an otome game, Eliza can only focus on shouldering her family's crimes, rebuilding her domain, and dealing with the mental trauma of familicide. With a cold face unbefitting her age, she struggles to manage her land while training as a child-soldier/general for the war to come.

Review:

Overall, this is a serious war story. There are some fantasy elements (like reincarnation, monsters, and magic) but they're used very sparingly. The true focus of the story is on the logistics of being nobility, the brutality of war, military strategy, and character development over time. (Eliza doesn't even get to the noble school setting of the otome game until Chapter 150, and don't expect any real hints at romance until after Chapter 200.) The world-building and attention to detail is impressively realistic and expansive.

However, this doesn't mean that the story is all dark -- the characters are endearing, the strategies are well thought-out, and the main character's self-deprecating but reliable nature is very likable. The story has mystery elements (terrorist organizations, new weapons, conspiracies), and the plot twists and pacing will keep you interested.

The translation quality is also very good, and though there might be a minor error here or there, you can tell that the translator put a lot of effort into continuity and accuracy.

Even if this genre of novel doesn't suit your tastes, it is definitely worth 5 stars. I think that all of the low ratings are from people who were looking for an entirely different type of novel.

UPDATE/WARNING:

There is a very boring plot arc from around Chapter 200. The translation quality has also gone down. I will keep my star rating the same (because I truly believe the first big arc of this novel was great, and maybe my current lack of interest is mainly due to the poor translation), but the story has become very tedious to read. <<less

Slow updates, long chapters, well-translated, and well-written. It's not the traditional otome reincarnation story, and if you want romance or capture targets, then come back later. 97 chapters in, she's still only 7, embroiled in political and economic intrigue, grieving, and close to breaking. With that said, I love this story, and I keep forgetting it's a reincarnation or game setting. When I read, I'm just rooting for a girl trying so hard in a world that's so much darker than a child should... more>> ever have to see.. And I keep coming back for more every update. <<less

Another reincarnation novel. Well, at least it was what is written in the tags, but it isn't. It's about a struggle of a (very) young Viscountess, her life, her responsibility, her burden, and her sins. The reincarnation part, although isn't for decoration, it's what makes the MC as she is now. She is much more mature than her age. But, if you expect sudden technology revolution brought miraculously by the MC, well don't read this novel, as so far, this isn't that kind of story.

What I love from this novel... more>> is how the the situation of nobility is depicted as clear as possible from the point of view of the MC. It may not the most detailed description, but it grows as the MC grows. So far, there's no fluffy sweet romance for the MC, perhaps at the later she will find peace, but as I read so far, this is about her struggling to survie, to grow, to repent for the sins of her and her family.
Spoiler

she undergone harsh training since she was young, under those who hates her and her late family. She tried to atone for her father's sins as well as hers.

As for those who likes novel because of the MC, well I say, she is not adorable, but super likeable. She isn't cute, or that bold, but she is what we call decent human being. <<less

One of the great joys of reading this novel is reading the comments below each chapter and seeing people that expect your standard op MC, tropey JP shizz novel trying to fit the events of the story into that mold and completely losing it when things don't go that direction. It's especially hilarious watching the commenters trying to find a male to ship Eliza with, cause, you know this novel is supposedly an otome game (but very very secretly, without any overt hints that it might not be, it isn't).

This... more>> novel has far more in common with western fantasy novels from the 2000s-2010s than it does with the current JP meta and it's better for it. The ages are a bit funky, but somewhat understandable and the other characters don't just brush it off like in most jp stories. There's actually mental breakdowns of the fMC over the age discrepancy and it's quite wonderful from a writing perspective... Not so much from the story perspective. You should read this novel. Check the other reviews for why, they do a great job elucidating the merits of this novel. I just wanted to tell you to read the comments for some extra fun :) <<less

Firstly, this story revolves around politics, military, war, and some drama. The otome setting is not really here until at least 200 chapters but don't expect a complete turn-around, it will be basically the same. For some people, it may seem slow-paced and boring but personally, I like it because it makes everything more natural and the world building is great. It allows character-growth and details so that's not bad. Secondly, the heroine is OP, true, but she's a hard worker and she still has issues when it comes to... more>> her mental state but that's expected. Sometimes, she's cool-headed while some other times she breaks down but I think she makes a great character even with her faults. A few may find her hardly likable but actually, she's a softie inside. Lastly, the story in itself is complex and dark. The plot is slowly unraveling, there's a lot of scheming and death, and when you think everything is fine, it's not. It's a little realistic in its own way, and don't expect pink bubbles everywhere but corpses littering the ground and people getting killed. Definitely not the usual peaceful otome game tropes but that's what makes it special.

Conclusion, just give it a try, it'll be worth your time.

Just to say, I think the translator caught up with the raws so we'll have to be patient for the next updates. <<less

This one is weird.

It's set in a world with magical creatures and stuff, but so far there hasn't been any indication at all of magic use by people. Just regular seeming people living in a world with magic monsters and stuff. Neither has there been any mention of the humans of this world being stronger or faster than earth humans, even though that seems like it'd be a pretty big element of world building if it was the case.

The story is very much focused on character interactions and gloomy introspection,... more>> but I can't say it does these elements well either. I'm not sure if that's the translation losing some of the original author's voice or just the story not being all that great to begin with, but it's just not very interesting. Characters aren't very well developed, their interactions are kinda bland, nothing really catches my eye.

The main character just kind of coasts through life without very much in the way of personality, even the seeming defining moments (the way she deals with her people and her hardships) just don't really demonstrate anything special about her. Aside from what she did with her family and her general countenance, the story so far has not been affected by her in any way shape or form.

I was tempted to give this a 4/5, but 3 is as high as I can justify given how it failed to catch my interest at all.

Edit After Reading Some More: Bumping this down to a 1, nothing got better, the story continued to be a dumpster fire of nonsensical and downright boring grimderp. <<less

While this is one of the more dark takes in the otome genre, this series has surprising enough cling that will make you want to read it.

It's a very fine read until you hit 200+ chapters, where the prologue ends and the main "otome" storyline happens

All that dark, bloody, messy, hell-like battlefield, politics, logistics, and even the world-building itself is thrown away to become your typical Otome sh*t where the story doesn't even make sense anymore on how it was built up.
War? Bloody battles? F*ck that here's your yuri sh*t story.

This novel will leave a bad after-taste if you enjoy reading strong, capable, yet cold female MCs. Such a shame it didn't live to the potential of it.

I highly recommend this if you are the kind of person that simply want to see the world burned.

Regardless of the story being all dark and f*ck up, the MC doesn't act emo and depressed all the time. Yes, she's a little twisted inside and likes to impaled hundreds of people on stakes when she's like 12. But she can still show compassion and knows when it's time to sit alone in the corner and when to start burning a*shole alive.

A lot of people dropped this story for reasons that... more>> ”the characters and world building are not realistic” and ”the MC’s personality is weird” and if you have problems with that then this story is not for you.

But, if you are like me, who have a thing for ”female protagonist being too handsome for no goddamn reasons”. Then this story might just be your cup of tea.

Overall, this story is best for passing time, and not to be taken seriously. <<less

This is an absolute master piece.

Arguably one of the best reincarnation pieces our there.

pros:

    1. Marvelous world building. At least for an isekai novel that can be labeled fantasy, this one has unexpected amount of detail in politics, geography, and military. This gives some sense of authenticity to the later events, and it makes everything look natural instead of abrupt and isolated.
    2. Good character building: MC goes through education, military training and such. You get to see her tread carefully but also ruthlessly on political and military matters; her OPness along with her interesting mental state is also displayed through this process.
    3. The description of battle is intense, and gore: that is not so common for a novel labeled "otome".
cons:

    1. Rather slow pace: I believe the big turn of event happens at around 100 chapters or so. However, the slow pace is not troubling me at all; rather, the author utilizes this to expand on world building, which in the end intensifies the main event.
    2. A rather weak start: I mention this b/c someone says the MC is not likable. Indeed, she was introduced basically as a 2-year-old sociopath. I too initially found it hard to accept. But again, the author takes all the time to develop on her, and soon this mist will be cleared, and you will start to like her as well.
    3. Not much romance. If you are looking for some love drama, there ain't much. I believe the MC's love affair is just about to start. We don't know for sure until new chapters are out (the translator has already caught up to the raw, so it might be a long wait).
