I Reincarnated as a Noble Girl Villainess But Why Did It Turn Out This Way? (WN)

Description

Eliza Kaldia, who reincarnated as a noble girl villainess in a fantasy otome game, was stuck in a world that seemed far from her image of how noble girls should be living, as the fated events of the game were still far off while she remained a child. In the first place, it was suspected if she could even live to make it to the school setting of the game. Due to changes in the situation of the neighboring country which never appeared in the original game, the world became nothing like the flowery school life from the game. It was a world where even young girls had to take up weapons. How did it turn out this way…

I don’t have any cheat-like abilities. I can’t use magic. Though, my sense of ethics might have become a little twisted due to being reincarnated.

I see that this was mostly enjoyed, but personally, I fount it awful. If you ever wanted to know what a 5 year old sociopath was like, here's your chance to find out. I don't know which is more annoying, the utter unlikability of the main character, or the other characters' unfazed acceptance of her openly displayed preternatural maturity and physical capability far exceeding her age. They don't just accept it, they expect it for no logical reason. It manages to be both horrifying and ridiculous at the same time.... more>> Just... bad. <<less

If you were looking for a cute otome game novel this is the wrong place. If you were looking for a cool war heroine type novel you should just go back to looking. This here is a slow paced, dull and boring novel about pretty much nothing and a protagonist who sees the problems but doesn't really do anything about them. To be honest I'm not even sure why the whole otome-game genre is even there. It doesn't really make a difference.

When I started reading this people did tell me... more>> that it was slow paced. But slow turned out to be an understatement. 100 chapters in and the MC is still a child (as in 6 year old). We see lots of preparation for war but at the same time we don't see anything. It's boring and dull. I have two major problems with this novel.

First,

There is a lot of foreshadowing but so far nothing has come of it. Foreshadowing is fine and all but doing it all the time and nothing ever coming out of it is just tiring and irritating. Slow paced is one thing but having to go over 220 chapters in just to catch a glimpse of the plot is ridiculous. And even then the plot is a distant pillar in an empty field. You can somewhat see something but you can't really see how far away it is.

Second,

The MC. Eliza starts out awesome and then just goes down hill. We see no character development. In fact her character seems to degenerate.
Spoiler

I mean I get that when you have a guilty conscience you get paranoid about everyone around you but Eliza doesn't even try to do anything. She just sits around moaning about it.

[collapse]
She doesn't trust anyone around her and doesn't try to do anything about it. Doesn't even try to learn about the world she's now living in. Maybe try developing her own people. No. She just stays exactly as she is, rambling about how she can't trust anyone.

The few good characters I saw don't get much attention. (Or any attention.)

All in all, it's not something I recommend. Maybe it gets better but it will take a long time to get to that point. And I just don't have the patience. <<less

Quite dark.
Don't be fooled with 'reincarnated to otome game' tho, you wont find any fluffy stuff here.
MC is mentally adult but she is still a normal person that you can find anywhere, she's not enjoying blood, she doesn't have any cheat, just one normal adult.
Spoiler

she poisoned and killed her whole family because they're killing and torturing people for fun, no joke, her retainer that she just trusted get killed... Author is quite S.

[collapse]
The guilt and the anxiety of MC is described fully... Story of MC walked through path full of thorn might explain this WN faster. <<less

Started out really good.

But later on she just wants to atone for her former sins and just can’t get over it. That get’s really tiring after a while. The biggest problem is that she has no other desire. And if she doesn’t have any desire than to atone where is it interesting for the reader?

This is an absolute joy to read and probably going to be part of my top favorite stories I've read here.

Eliza aka I Reincarnated as a Noble Girl Villainess But Why Did It Turn Out This Way?, starts off not so good. Personally, if I just read this for 5 chapters and ended it there, I would think it's just your corny, really edgy, type of story because it starts like what you'd expect from a edgy novel where the MC kills her parents at 2 by poisoning them. It... more>> obviously doesn't start the best but when you slowly continue reading it exceeds expectations.

Eliza is a story (obviously) about Eliza, another victim of reincarnation into a villainess. These type of stories usually just focus on the main character and makes other characters only used to make MC shine but it doesn't here. The side characters are full of personality, endearing, and relatable. Without noticing I got attached to them and honestly I just love and cry for them so much. Of course, we can't forget about our main character who is equally endearing. I honestly never expected to be so attached to her but here I am. But to really feel for these characters you might want to read for quite some time because it's a slow paced story but it's still a joy to read and you wouldn't even notice you're already more than 100 chapters.

A lot of stuff goes on here, politics and war is what is mostly going on in this series and our MC only finally goes in the academy in 149 chapters but when going into the story you'll probably only be reminded that it exists when she gets in because there's so much going on you'll forget about it. The story is also tragic, a lot of our characters suffer a lot and it usually surrounds mc's father and the war. Mc's father is the source of a lot of the character's misery including the MC and also forms great relationships. By great relationships, a lot of people despised the MC for her father's crimes so when people find out that she's different from her father it creates bonds. This doesn't mean the MC is very kind, she honestly does cruel things sometimes but she isn't so heartless either. She is a bit tsun and learns how to trust people after all she's been through and considers them very precious to her. The world building is pretty good and the characters are relatable and if you like a story where people suffer and equally get happy moments then this is a story for you.

There are obviously some things I disliked here consisting of the start of the story and mc's age. What I mean by age is that she goes to war at 6 and like, I understand she's the people's leader but it would've liked it better if she was a bit older. But the things I liked and enjoyed about the story overshadowed these but sometimes I think about it.

Anyways this review is somewhat biased but I seriously enjoyed reading this and I suggest you read it too if you want something nice to binge on. <<less

This review may not help anyone, but I came to this story after a long while of reading fluffy shoujo-like reincarnation/transmigration novels where typically the main character falls in love with like a duke or a prince of some sort. I came to this story after becoming interested in the Tragedy tag after reading The Abandoned Empress.

That being said this story is absolutely nothing like those romance novels I've been reading, to a point where I started to get a bit confused as to where the story was going cause... more>> I would zone out a bit while reading. I tried to give the novel a chance, but honestly, the whole opening was incredibly lackluster.

Spoiler

A child at age 2 poisoning her whole family? I understand she's older in her brain but seriously? And then leaving a 5-year-old to essentially take care of herself with her pet while in the barracks and the adults deeming that necessary?? What???

[collapse]

I think this kind of novel really is something that appeals to a specific kind of people, namely people who enjoy military and political stories! I will admit there is something satisfying about a long story if you truly enjoy watching a character grow up and deal with several problems that are beyond her physical age group (when I was six I cried when my parents left me at kindergarten, not lead a group of soldiers) But if you're like me and you're more interested in watching a character take control and change her original fate within the realms of the otome game period or life by becoming strong and independent (with maybe a dash of love and romance), this ain't it chief.

Pay close attention to the tags and the reviews if you're unsure if this is the right novel for you. I went into this with a blind eye and came out none the wiser. <<less

This is fun.

Not actually an otome story, since most of the chapters are about war and politics between nobles. But I really enjoy reading this.

The timeline are progressing steadily, along with the restoration of her domain. The people around her all have enough background story, even people that only shows up for a bit will later get more role. The world building is well written too. Not always a happy story, and sometimes there's an unpredictable outcome in each arc, yet it makes it all the more intriguing.

This is definitely... more>> a different story than any other, and I wish there could be more story like this. <<less

World building during the start was very detailed (very helpful for my imagination but kinda boring), but once you’re done with that, this novel will always have something happening without sacrificing the pace and plot.

Reading this feels like a bittersweet pill for your heart. Dear future readers, you won’t regret reading this if you’re looking for a wonderful story and heroine. I still feel happy-sad whenever I see this T.T.

To put it simply, this story is very good. It manages to be gritty and bloody without diving head first into the EDGE that it easily could have given the premise. While the supporting cast is fairly well rounded, the true draw is of course Eliza the Impaler. Her head is a very strange place to be because she just has this emotional numbness that leaves her almost completely unable to open up to people or accept good will from others, but at her core is obviously a rather kind... more>> woman who is trying to fulfill the role she's given herself to atone for her past 'crime.' I also appreciate the rather subtle sense of humor. Things may be bad sometimes and Eliza may have a terrible sense of humor, but the story doesn't lose itself in those things entirely, which is what helps save it from being too dark.

As for the story, I find it a nice change of pace that it doesn't stay on the otome game side of things for too long nor get too far into it before heading back to the politics and warfare. And yet those moments at the school are still quite entertaining because it's one of the best ways to see how people truly think of her. The adult nobles who aren't basically her family are too wrapped up in politics and their own affairs to make it clear how they see her except as a tool or threat to themselves, but the children see both the hard working noblewoman and the battlefield butcher and come to their own conclusions based on that alone.

If I had to give some criticisms to the story, I guess there would be two, which is why it only gets four stars from me. First, a lot of the side characters lack a certain depth to them. You can tell what they feel and part of why they feel that way, but the details about them as actual people can be a little lacking. The second criticism is, I think, a bit more problematic. Namely, there are some real flow issues between chapters sometimes. Between chapters the story often seems to jerk forward rather than ride smoothly ahead. I suspect the latter issue is probably lessened in the light novels, but the characters are probably still a little flat even there. Still, it's hard to say for sure.

On second thought, I'm going to bump by rating up to five stars. With the way the ratings are skewed 'really good but not perfect' should be a five here, not a four. My only serious concern is the pacing, after all. <<less

This webnovel is really amazing. It is unusally tragic with a lot of military/war drama. Furthermore, Eliza is a great and interesting character. She has to deal with so much problems, despite her young age.

If you are expecting a slightly dramatic romantic story with an Otome Game setting then this webnovel isn't for you. Honestly, Eliza is way too busy at dealing with Crusader Kings II than having time for capture targets.

I like to think I'm not s*upid, so it confuses me that after 50+ chapters I have no idea what the point of this story is.

I have no idea what the writer is doing.

The MC is reincarnated from another world.

... more>> None of their knowledge/perspective has affected anything.

The MC is living in a world that was a game she played.

Again, barely matters.

Magic apparently exists. It's mentioned anyway.

No interest.

Repeatedly plot points and factors are introduced, and the number that are seemingly forgotten just increase.

Now- in their defense, what would be otherwise a plodding mess is instead a slow moving (almost slice-of-life) story is with borderline interesting characters.

This is 100% a story you follow in the hope it's going someplace- and I don't know if you'll be rewarded. As much as I like to think this is all building into a huge payoff later... I both doubt it, and want the story to suck less now.

I'll follow a bit longer, but ch 50 just cliff-hangered to 'only plot armor can save you now', so I'm not encouraged...

Spoiler

Yeah... Ch 51 is literally a heroic save. The guy she sent away is (despite orders) there, riding her monster beast (though there was no mention of him practicing, nor the beast being big enough/able to fly). Good thing they could see a child running in a walled fort, and the enemy s*upidly 'throwing away' his achievement so they could agilely intercept. I guess? Yeah... I don't care anymore.

Excellent read.

This novel is a dark and gritty story that we mostly dont see from "reincarnated in another world" novels (yes I know there are some edgy ones like Arifureta and dungeon seeker) it has amazing character building and documents the life of a girl with vague knowledge from modern japan who mu*ders her entire family (they deserved it) and becoming an influential and feared commander of the battlefield.

This may be a "fantasy reincarnation" but make no mistake this is a military and political novel complete with gore. The characters... more>> are also believable and all of them are fleshed out and interesting. <<less

I wholeheartedly agree to what Mizura said. This novel is definitely a rare gem under the piled up otome novels nowadays.

Some may not like it because it's not the traditional otome game novel however, if you like those dark stories with strong independent MCs I suggest you read this.

This series is dark and heavy. If you came here expecting your typical otome game reincarnation, then be prepared for this rocky journey. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really good novel, but damn does it hit the feels.

The story takes the dark side of reality after the heroine of this story decide to commit her first crime. Her previous life affects her current way of thinking so I can't help but sympathize with her condition. She rarely smiles so people around her are quite worried with her (either in good or bad way.) people who read the story might turn off because of her personality but I think the writer is doing a great work in conveying the realistic message in otome game's reincarnation story.

It's good. I liked it. At first. But at the story goes on, I don't know where the "point" went to anymore. It became too complicated. At least, for me. So I dropped it at Chap23. Still you should try reading because it has potential, I'm just really picky and all so.. Yeah~ XD

It really deserves its good reviews. The character development, politics, struggles, how people act and behave, war, relationships, people's worries and how it affects them, and chemistry are all very well written.

Except for the fact that description fails at what kind of story we will read and mc's priorities are completely in the wrong order bunch of times and time skips could've been written better, I can't find any bad parts about it.

although the story is not something you would expect from a wn, it is really a good read.

Really good!

It's not the typical otome game novel. It's very dark, bloody, intriguing, and MC is not a damsel in distress waiting for her prince.

Hope author will continue writing this novel one day...

Much better than most isekai. The MC doesn't remember much about her previous life and is not overpowered. No RPG stats or terminology here, no item boxes. World building is presented from the eyes of the main character and most of the world is unknown to the reader as a result - you don't know things she doesn't know, generally. Combat descriptions are sparse and again reflect the knowledge and experience of the MC.

Spoiler

The foreshadowing is a little weird. Foreshadowed events resolve with less severity than anticipated, while unexpected events have severe outcomes that kill or traumatize main characters. Chekhov's Gun gets used, but the result is only a grazing shot. The Big Bad Evil Guy just f*cking dies randomly while the main characters are having an epic battle with someone who just shows up out of nowhere. It's strange but enjoyable.

[collapse]

Decent translation, but the TL makes annoying mistakes. Too much use of inappropriate English slang when the characters are supposed to be acting seriously. <<less

How should I say this? I think this is what a 'villainess reincarnation story' should be. Taking into consideration the context of medieval times, titles and politics, I can safely say that this author done good. Actually scratch that, this author done amazing.

Also, this is not your typical otome story.

The villainess doesn't turn into a heroine - she turns into a capture target. What's more, the OP hidden character kind that you have to get everything just right to capture!!!

She can fight, command battles, has actually experienced war, has a tragic background, is trying to atone for a sin, is loved as a lord, is a super earnest kuudere with an extra 'oblivious and secretly flustered' trope thrown in... can play the violin like a maestro, looks like a handsome young master with long hair... HOW MUCH MORE DO YOU WANT TO EXCEED THE COOL FACTOR METER ELIZAAAAAAA
