Interesting psychotic story, where the MC is out to get BOTH the demons and the humans (he actually preys on both, and has zero sympathy or empathy for anyone, humans included).

What makes it stand out, IMO, is that there is quite a bit of fairly intelligent talk about population dynamics, which are sometimes well developed in the story. So it actually becomes kind of interesting to see the MC optimize his hunting by seeking to use the humans against the demons in fairly intricate and smart ways.

It isn't always well... more>> done though:

Spoiler

For example, early on the MC spends a bunch of time explaining how he needs to add some new type of creature in level 1 so that it can prey on another creature that is growing too fast - which made boring sense, but then immediately afterwards the MC goes out and kills all of his creatures (including these newly added ones, one assumes) in order to get a system reward...

[collapse]

That being said, one negative about the story is how the MC is given just way too big an advantage over his competition by knowing so much more about what is coming up. This is balanced somewhat by the fact that the competing demons are very powerful and are working in 4 big gangs (so the danger to him is still real), but still it sometimes feels a bit too easy for him, frankly. (But then again, it sure is fun to see him get all his insane 'first to do X' bonuses...)

All-in-all, this is a very fun, albeit totally psychotic, story. I like the long chapters and I really like how it seems like there is a real direction to the story and plot, and how it seems like things have been well planed out by the author. I do not think there will be any school arcs or other outrageous filler...

One thing I particularly like about this type of psychotic MC: for once he isn't trying to play house with an improbable harem, and he is also confident enough not to need ego-boosting lackeys.

Spoiler

Unlike other stories that have the MCs find women that magically love them and improbably place the MC in front of their own interests, or otherwise have the MCs take on huge risks to get involved with high-risk women, in this one the MC is rather only considering romance with magically branded s*aves (ex: his dark elf) - something coherent for a deeply psychotic person who cannot trust anyone.

[collapse]

The novel has lots of cheap thrills (in the form of always winning and gaining huge advantages in the face of significant adversity), but I didn't mind all the time spent on the minutiae stats on gear, creatures and protagonists because the system seems original enough to be interesting, and because fights are actually won based on real logical reasons (and numbers) rather than ass-pulls.

In short, it offers an MC who is far more coherent and functional than most MC psychos out there... <<less

I admit, there is some really interesting description of dungeon management, that's what made me read it till chapters 33-37. But.

Haaa... the MC is sooo unlikable... And not because he is the antihero, but because he is absurdly s*upid. Like some teen in puberty. Or is it the author? I feel like he is a middle schooler who is writing this for his own childish self-satisfaction.

My patience snapped, when the MC made his village of dark elf s*aves to walk on all four and bark like dogs for a month.... more>> I mean... what is this for? Does it satisfy your vanity somehow? Why not make them do something useful, like work 24/7 or something?

Btw, why is there no "harem" tag? Or is it not a harem if there is no polygamy? (or is there? idk, cause I dropped it) I felt harem vibes all over the place from the very beginning. There are beauties drooling over him everywhere, and so far there is no decent male character. <<less

Mannn, I enjoyed this novel a lot but the 180+ chapters were full of plot holes due to author rushing everything.
This has so much potential, what a shame. Still, it was still a good novel to read and skim through to the end.
3/5
-1 for rushing at the end.
-1 for mostly bad fight scenes, inconsistent power system and wasted potential.

Enjoyable.

This novel is far from refined in its prose, not the least original in its tropes and not deep at all when it comes to characters or plot.

It's very straightforward. A quick paced, in-your-face OP MC and his legion of not-sure-if-good-or-evil gone to become the Devil King in a game-like-setting war of dungeons and dragons set in the 21st century world. Along the way he wows and deceives his allies and enemies alike.

Expect the staples of reincarnation like the heated auction house, the stat updates, the provocations gone overboard and... more>> the takeover of the world!

Quite similar in atmosphere to Reincarnator, which also focuses on an OP MC paving the way after a time slip to lead a race against other races. <<less

This is to AwEsOme!!!!! (^_^)

This story is well balanced with all the things I like about translated novels these days, beside that I'm a big fan of the translator's work.

I can assure you that this story is truly one of the best I've read. It has a very good rhythm and paste with everything that happens during this well written story.

The only thing I could regret that even thou its only 72 with each chapter = 3 chapters of most novels. To me this is torture cause... more>> I wish it will go on for longer - I'm selfish right, be longer.....

Anyway have a good read and please leave a review. <<less

I enjoyed reading this nice translated Korean Web Novel, and I re-read it a 2nd time because of its story.

5/5 Story 4/5 Plot 3.5/5 Pacing

Overall I give this review a 4, mainly due to its pacing. I liked the the meat of the story and I really began to enjoy reading this from around chapters 10+. It's a slow build up and then it goes into a jog and then runs into a sprint for the finish. The end is wholesome and many are fine how it was completed, I... more>> personally felt that more could have been expanded in certain areas of the story.

There are a few plot holes, but for a web novel, I can give it a little leeway. The main focus of the Novel is there and it follows, the Main character and his 2nd try at becoming a Demon King. <<less

Dungeon Hunter was the first novel that I ever completed. Sadly, the ending could not live up to the rest of the novel, hence the 4 stars, but it is understandable as the author began to have health problems from writing it. Aside from my complaint about how it ended, I would recommend it for others to read.

Best read sadly it was rushed because the author was hospitalized around the end of the story, he had to rush a nicely phased story. This book is action packed and the plot isn't predictable, you think the main character would do one thing but he always proves he isn't a human he doesn't think like them his main goal is the safety of his own people. I wish it had a sequel but regardless of the ending being rushed it had one of the best closures, the MC did... more>> not act like a saint, he acted like what he grew up as, a demon. I prefer this type of book over the 1000 plus chapters of nothing but copy pasted story telling, its short and can be read in a day or two, however I recommend reading it throughout a week or two, in order to comprehend and think what the MC might do next. <<less

Dungeon Hunter presents a very engaging story, packed with actions and tensions. MC and side characters are well-defined, though not really well-developed.

The major theme is second chance at life. But instead of human, it is a demon that got the second chance to redo a "game" between demons to be the Demon King. The game took place in earth, and in his second chance, the MC chose to empower human instead of hunting them like the other participants did. It was tricky, balancing his act between demons, humans, and (later)... more>> angels. That was what the novel explored: the path to be a god by another name in a deadly game.

However, the quality of the novel went downhill after about two-thirds of the journey. In the later parts, the plot jumbled, side characters that had much role in the beginning got thrown-off to unknown ending for the sake of new characters whose role were insignificant, and the final narratives came out of nowhere. Thus, this became the classic example of how not to end a novel.

Still, I liked its fast pace, which reduced the shock of rushed ending. Also, it was interesting and engaging story. Suitable for those interested in fantasy shounen novels. There were more actions, less talk and emotional stuff. And though the MC was not chaste, there was zero romance. <<less

Overall 3.5/5 for most of the story, but downgraded to 3/5 for rushed conclusion.

Pros:
- Easy to read: fast-paced, steady stream of progress, and enough variety and plot twists to not become boring. When there's a stat increase, the series even hands you a handy before/after comparison to save you some page flipping.
- Decent amount of plot variety: scheming, fighting, a few mysteries. Despite the fact that the protagonist knows what happened the first round, there are all sorts of deviations that catch him off-guard.

Cons:
- Shallow characters: The... more>> character designs can be quite interesting, but it's almost like most of the characters are one-time use (though they're supposedly plotting in the background, it's only really felt in the story once per character). The rest of the time, they're mostly gawking at the protagonist's accomplishments. The protagonist himself really doesn't develop much beyond getting what he wants, and his relationships don't really get anywhere beyond his new subordinates showing unwavering loyalty.
- Shallow worldbuilding: The author puts a bunch of elements in place (demons, gods etc.), plus there's even the humans trying to survive, but they're mostly there just for the fighting. There is no real hidden meaning behind anything that's going on.
- Convenient plots: the other characters do have their moments of accomplishments, but overall the protagonist tends to hoard most of the accomplishments, with the other parties being Really slow to realize how he's getting ahead.
- Rushed ending: This is probably the main culprit for most of the above. The author apparently shortened his story a lot near the end. With more chapters, he could have fleshed out characters more, written in more interesting revelations about the world, and given a more satisfactory conclusion to most plot points.

Basically, an easy light read if you're bored, but not something that'll blow your mind. <<less

Apparently the other demons doesn't know how to grind achievements. They don't have brains, they're too passive and will only act when something is up. Other demons don't know how to earn points. While the MC have several millions of points, the other demons only had tenth of that amound. Mc's subordinates had brains and competent, while the subordinates of his enemies are just same character with different names, every bad thing is their characteristic― arrogant, s*upid, lazy and easily provoked. All the antagonists' brain are below average. No exception. This novel probably had the worst antagonists I read so far. **The only good thing about the novel is the way the MC handle and tame his subordinates. Nothing more, nothing less. So overall : 2/5

This story definitely isn't for everyone.

How do you know if this story is for you? (Till chapter 80)

1) You like a light hearted, relaxing, fast pace world builder story.

... more>> 2) A clear final goal

3) The story isn't truly plot driven with main interest of the author being place on exploring different fundamentals, characteristics of the demon lords, building and expanding dungeon and watch how earth and its 'heroes' react to it.

Hence why some may feel there isn't a plot, because there is a lack of crisis. It isn't for those types of people.

4) Growth focused progression based story. The calculating and ruthless MC constantly attempts to be stronger. It's not just some 'get your cheat isekai' fu~

5) Structured similar to slice of life style story despite every action causes direct or indirect effect on growth of the MC.

6) The MC is a demon and acts like one... most of the time. He is ruthless and does everything to become stronger, including mingling with the humans and exploiting them. Though sometimes he become like a Korean guy, which breaks character...

7) MC actions are mostly justified. Usually done by the author, which also breaks the show don't tell rule. Kinda sucks.

8) Relatable antagonist, unique side characters but many 1 dimensional subordinate. The latter is due to having absolute control, including fate and free will. Other than notable ones, the rest of his subordinates are basically yes-men.

9) Absurd and silly skills and character background. For many this will be the turn off of the story, but this is a unique charm for me. I'll give you an example of what I mean.

Think of a man drowning and surviving a few times turned into aqua man. Yeah, it's absurd. Don't expect much logic in stuff like these.

10) Prejudice, racism and s*x. I can feel the biased contempt of the author towards certain countries... Maybe they wrote it as a joke? Who knows? The author also talk about s*x comfortably. Some might feel uncomfortable, but I think it's fine though.

11) No balance. No crisis. I know I mentioned this above but this stands out due to having basically zero crisis.

Everything and every act flows well as the schemer MC had planned, but it flows too well. It's like playing a claw machine that is rigged in your favour. It's not like there isn't unknown variables or that everything goes as planned. It's just it's a bit too extreme, till I feel way too safe. It's eerie. I know, readers like me are hard to pleaseXD

12) Writing isn't clear cut. I'm a hypocrite for saying this, but take this with a grain of salt.

Edit:

Chapter 110+ will basically be your typical breakthrough the limit, overcome crisis story... <<less

This is SO GOOD and I'm not lying. So far the story has been absolutely amazing. I love the fact that the world view isn't thrown to us readers at once, instead it's slowly introduced throughout the story. The writing is good, the flow is logical and nicely portrayed. I love the balance between details and time jumps. Exactly the writing style I love. It keeps me engaged throughout.

I don't like the dark elf female at first though but it seems that she's intelligent enough to meet my standards XD

Edit: completed the story. When I see the word Epilogue I was shocked as hell and had to check multiple times if I'd skipped any chapters. Nope, I haven't. The last major boss fight scene has just vanished into thin air. I was disappointed but well, that's fine. Also towards the 200-ish chapters I feel like details have been missing out. I can't clearly work out the transitions between scenes.

I like the story and the ending anyways. I also love the dungeon building parts in the story. Definitely a 5-star!

!!! Spoilers about the ending alert !!!

Spoiler

There is one thing though: Although the ending revolves around Yihi, I never thought the MC has such strong feelings (?) towards her. I mean, her death scene of Yihi is quite touching and sentimental, but moving the whole demon king castle next to it and finally laughing at ease only after finding the seed? I know the MC has changed and treasure his subordinates but that's a bit unbelievable to me. That emotional linkage isn't set up probably in my opinion. The ending scene seems a bit like those CN 古風 romance novels, which I don't particular favor.

[collapse]

Edit 2: I checked, and turned out this is the same author as The King Of the Battlefield. I'm shocked as hell, ngl. This is so much better than KOB. <<less

Nice reading a dungeon crawler story like this, told almost entirely from the perspective of the as*hole Demon Dungeon Master Randalph. With a "Second Chance" being what gives this lowly invading demon a bit of an advantage over all the other bigshots out there, on their future subjugation of us Earthlings.

Unlike other Korean WNs I've read before, this one seems to focus on its actual plot without going too far off the deep end. By making it enjoyable to read Randalph manipulate his dungeon environment and the human dungeon crawlers... more>> with the right incentives. Although it has some of the most memorable Auctions I've read, it doesn't take long for MC's 2nd life advantage to seem so woefully unfair, with the author constantly stacking the deck in his favour. Along with some terrible pacing issues, skipping over any meaningful character development or world building, the story suffers and concludes in a rather jumbled & forgettable fashion. <<less

Dungeon Hunter, at first, doesn't seem anything exceptional. It shares a common trait among generic fantasy novels, including the demons, dungeons, and human hunters with the power of levels and skills. What really gives this novel its shine is the perspective. The MC is a demon earl who wants to be a devil, but puts up a human hunter facade in order to kill other demon competitors in the devils race, which is done brilliantly during the first 100+ chapters. Although it quickly looses its shine and falls down the... more>> path of mediocrity, I would give it a 5/5 just for that first part of the novel. Author axed his own novel without adequate ending just to end it, brilliant move!, this isn't the only major problem here but still a crappy move without any excuses. Even if it take a year to make these ~28 (or just 10) short chapters, it still be way better than having a zero-points final battle and open ending. It's readable but there is no fun at the end.

or how he hides his true identity of demon/dungeon master YET USING THE SAME NAME and if some demons were a bit less retarted than MC it would've taken them no time to collect information on him and say to humans that he is a demon to give him a headache, but just as often he overusing the knowledge of future events in smart way which is a problem of "back in the past" troupe, with "system" bonuses giving him too much achievement points for just anything while his enemies don't look like having points this way at all except from mob killing this novel starts to look like a farce in no time. His personality is too chaotic and what he vowed to do and what he does is too different. Stats points system works in too complicated way for no reason just to make something normal and simple more "mysterious", in other author's novel The King of The Battlefield it's somewhat similar but have more bearable form yet it would be better just to use a normal system with "even" quality of points and same "limiter" to transcend, also the intelligence stat is just as cheaty as cheap novels that overuse it, especially if you readed Infinite Competitive Dungeon Society before where idiots stayed being idiots if they never learned to use the brain and skill proficiency didn't skyrocketed so passively.

Also patterns "MC gone somewhere and everyone think that he died" and "MC gone somewhere/in coma, become stronger yet it taken too much time (and it's just so unluckily happened the flow of time on Earth is three times faster than in sh*thole where MC got himself stuck) to get back and his territory/minions were almost eliminated" happened too many times for such a short novel, the worser thing of this sort that I seen was "MC was beaten like a dead dog, in some way was transported to remote sh*thole and needs to survive constant dangers while having 1% of previous strengh, gradually becomes stronger than before and goes back to beat his enemies, also he often lucky then his years of training here was only a months in his world" from chinese novels, it's also here in some weakened and distorted form. <<less
