Lin Feng is hilarious! Love how he isn’t OP and actually depends on his brain to survive. The author used creative ways to combine the different stories and make it work. This is more like a really amazing Dōjin. I hope it gets a DJ manga.

Although it steals all the elements and characters from popular xianxia novels as the story progresses it is kind of fun to read the process of how Lin feng will complete his quests.

I started reading this because of the good reviews mentioning that antagonists aren't complete morons and that the protagonist is cunning and smart.

As far as I've read, MC wins mostly because of ass pulls and dumb luck. I mean, sure, he's portrayed as cunning, but the only reason things consistently unfold according to his plans is that MC and author are in cahoots. There is no reason why things would go as he predicted other than the author decided that they would.

As for antagonists, here are two of the early... more>> ones:

Spoiler

A sect elder got his eyes on a kid who is incredibly talented. Once in several generations kind of prodigy. If the elder could bring that kid back to his sect and have him as a disciple, that would be great. The kid would easily become a pillar of the sect in a few decades. He'd probably quickly become far more powerful than even the elder who brought him in.

There's only one problem, this kid acknowledges a wandering cultivator as his master and is very loyal to him. So what is the elder going to do? Try to coax the kid and his master with benefits? Try to understand them and get some background information? Nope! Let's just kill the child's master right in front of him and kidnap him by force.

Am I the only one who realize how moronic that is? Your plan is to kill his master and then groom him to become more powerful than you. If your plan succeeds, at best, you are going to get killed by your own disciple a few decades from now. At worst, said disciple isn't gonna stop at you and also destroy your entire sect.

Thankfully for that elder, his plan failed, because as far as he knows, the kid's master was both incredibly more powerful than him but also merciful and let him go with a light punishment. So what do we do now? Count our blessings that this incredibly powerful master let us go with our lives after we tried to kill him and kidnap his disciple? Cut our losses? Nope! Let's get our revenge and show him the might of our sect. Could we possibly gain anything from doing so? Nah, but we're gonna do it anyway.

Right after this elder, we get the 'mu*derous psychopath' antagonist. Dude asks a question to someone of high rank and with background. The guy doesn't know the answer. Thus he says "then there is no point of keeping you alive" and he just mu*ders the guy for no other reason. There was also no point in killing the guy other than making enemies.

That mu*derous psychopath isn't depicted as particularly unreasonable for a cultivator.

The early part of this novel is absolutely one of the best novels I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Seeing the MC go from a weakling who has to use tricks to come out on top while looking like some peerless master to actually becoming one is so much fun.

(No spoilers overview) The Novel is broken down into 4 main parts and it goes like this

The first 300 chapters are focused on the MC. We follow him taking in his main disciples and focusing on his own cultivation.... more>> He also officially establishes his sect during this time but no one really takes it seriously since its held together by his strength alone.

The next chapters up until 600-700 are the sect building part. In this part, his direct disciples start to shine and slowly become pillars of the sect. The MC also starts expanding his sect in all ways to make it more powerful and properly puts it en route to becoming the number 1 sect in the world

Chapters 7 (/8) 00 to around 1100 are just sidequests :/ Definetly the weakest part of the novel in my opinion since its focused on the MC's grand disciples who we barely knew anything about except their names up to this point. There are a couple of important moments that the MC is responsible for but they're few and far between and we mostly spend this chunk through the POV of the granddiciples. This is the part of the novel that burned me out and ive only recently picked it up again

Chapter 1100 to the end of the novel (Havent read thsi far but its what ive gathered through chapter names and a teeny bit of wiki self-spoiling) wraps up the main stories of the direct disciples and introduces the final big bad of the story. And obviously ends with the MC achieving the main goal and title of the story. Ill give a more detailed overview when I complete the novel.

Overlall.. A really good novel to sink your teeth into. The MC and main cast are really likeable and some of them are way better than the characters theyre a parody of imo. Give it a read if you're interested :) <<less

A funny, lighthearted "system" story where the protagonist collects the main characters of other famous xianxia novels. The plot armor is unapologetically thick but that's the type of world this novel is trying to paint to begin with. The novel doesn't go all-in on satire but rather highlights it for the audience and asks it to laugh along with it. The biggest criticism it draws is that it doesn't have much depth beyond this.

It was a good read. Can be counted un the number of wuxia novels I enjoyed reading.

True. It does get boring sometimes but it kept me hanging onto it for some reason.

The only complain I have from this novel is that there was no development for the system. In the beginning there were interaction between the MC and the system but in the later half it's as if the system lost its purpose and was solely there for the purpose of issuing notifications when mission were completed.

However I enjoyed it... more>> anyway and was quite reluctant when I finished the last chapter. <<less

An entertaining novel with a fairly interesting story and light-hearted comedy, but with unrealized potential. A worthwhile experience only tarnished by a very painful, irregular translation.

The novel starts as a parody of the genre, the protagonist meets the main characters of other novels in comedic situations and recruits them into his newly formed sect while prompted by an all-powerful "system". Eventually, though, much like in his other well-known novel, the author seems to forget about the premise and it turns into a full-fledged cultivation novel in its own right, with... more>> constant touches of comedy, instead of the promised parody.

This in itself is not a bad thing, many novels would do just fine with a decent cultivation plot and some comedy, the problem is, in this case, it achieves neither. The plot in itself is fairly interesting with the author managing to seamlessly integrate all the different characters you know from other famous novels and their backstories into an all-encompassing plot, but it is quite obvious it was built as the premise for a parody and as such is not as profound as one would expect from a "good" cultivation novel, and even when it was, I kept thinking of it as a parody and couldn't entirely take it seriously. In the same way, while comedy was always present, it was more of an afterthought, which makes it fail as a parody too.

It doesn't help either that the author almost completely abandons the "system" at some point, only appearing to deliver the main quest for the protagonist (the secondary ones basically forgotten) or as some sort of predictable treasure-giving plot armor, without any interest to it. I'm not much of a fan of "system" novels, but when done right, I can appreciate it. This was not the case.

The narration in itself is somewhat light, which makes for an easy read, if only a little convoluted at times by the gazillion names and titles of every disciple of the sect the author expects you to remember. All in all, it is definitely worth giving it a try and while it can't compare to other great novels out there, it is definitely better than the average one, the only great problem being a very poor and erratic translation which makes it hard to enjoy at times. <<less

A good read. I still re-read some of the chapters these days. I read this some time ago and do not remember everything well, but the good parts were memorable enough.

Unfortunately, there were some forgettable parts. Luckily, the translation is easy to read and understand; these parts can be read over quickly.

This novel had a great beginning to great mid stories. After it actually took off then it lost it's originality and just isn't up to the par of the previous chapter.
MC's greatest advantage is just forgotten altogether and he had all-powerful and mysterious system is thrown in the background.

The most important thing is the plot armour that MC gets in the later chapter is not even explained and each arc felt like rushed as hell. But enjoyable to read.

One of the better wuxia novels out there, but still has its cliches.

I think its good because of how it redirects some of the common wuxia cliches into refreshing content, like how
Spoiler

he uses his past wuxia knowledge to find the "main protagonists of the world and take them into his "number 1 school

This is an interesting idea, but it gets boring quick. The game system is not really utilized, the "lucky" draws are without suspense, and the point rewards and quests are arbitrary. The disciples are fun, but in the end it is all about the MC cultivating. Why not just read a novel with a single cultivating MC then instead? I believe that this is the novels biggest problem: The MC does not really shine on his own - compare that to "Master of Untold Daos", where the MC is clearly... more>> different than everyone else.

Still I had fun reading about how different MCs of different novels come together, just that I got bored quick. 4* <<less

For me, this Novel is a 3, 5/5

Pro:
+It is interesting and the parody contents are funny tho
+I like how the MC is a con-man and his "personality"
+some figures have a well-developed personality and are interesting
+world building and power-system are nothing new but it's not complicated and that's good for me

con:
-there are some flaws/holes in the story and it's sometimes really confusing/annoying
-I don't know how to explain it, but this story has some issues with the interaction between the characters/sects... everyone speak too artificial... if... more>> you don't know the background of the people you don't really know who is a foe from the dialogues because everyone (even enemies which just clashed with the MC some chapters ago) is exaggerated polite
-the biggest issue for me was that the story gets was too political. every sect has its own NSA agency, they meet over every sh*t and discuss how to share benefits... long story short... it's really tiresome sometimes <<less

The main character is interesting however the least interesting parts of the novel are the disciples which are blatant rips from other popular novels. The disciples act so predictably any chapter that involves them just become a drag to read through. The author managed to take characters from three famous work, and make each one the same generic personality.

Not my cup of tea but the story is a great if you want some comedic stuffs going on. And oh yeah, this is one of the best well written novels out there that basically shits on generic mc's. But it's not my type of story but I recommend you try it out.

The first couple hundred chapters of the novel are unique, funny, and interesting. However, the novel soon got bogged down by info dumps, meaningless exposition, an overabundance of characters, and a lack of stakes.

The novel begins to feels uninteresting and monotonous as the story progresses. The cultivation aspect of the novel was also nothing to write home about; it was also slow and could've been a lot more interesting.

However, the characters in the novel overall are good, parodying other novels' main characters. If you are looking for a fast-paced cultivation... more>> novel, this certainly is not it. <<less

I read this forever ago, it wasn't great but not absolutely terrible.

Now I'm reading some small time novel not even listed on this site. Started out fun, not best level of writing but very acceptable. 75 chapters in and it's equivalent to dog shit. The translation claims to be from the same people but everything has changed. The phrasing, locations, power levels, I swear if it wasn't same character names I'd think it was different much worse novel. Ducking upsetting.

Jesus Christ, this is just bad. The first 300 chapters are like, tolerable, I guess. But I struggled to make it to 400, and I had to force myself to get to 700. This novel forgets its own premise quickly. It was supposed to be a parody of wuxia, but it just became wuxia.

The MC was meant to pretend to be strong, but then he just uses the system to cheat and boost his own power. He never works for anything. He just abuses his s*upid little system. It is... more>> so absurd. Lin Feng literally just ate an elixir and skyrocketed 2 entire stages. Those 2 stages would take even talented old masters decades, centuries even. But no, the man Lin Feng gets to skip all that work. And every time he decides to gamble with the system, he always wins. He ALWAYS wins. Even if he doesn't get what he was originally going for, what he ends up with is either exactly what he needs or will need in a moment or better than what he had hoped for.

The author also happens to practice the forbidden art of inconsistent world power level. There's probably a better name for that, I just don't know what it is. What I mean is, as the MC Lin Feng grows stronger, the number of people at or above his cultivation level suspiciously seems to increase drastically. When he was below Aurous Core, there were almost no Nascent Soul stage cultivators around. The few that existed were sect leaders or high up elders. No mention of Immortal Soul fellows yet. As soon as Lin Feng reaches Nascent Soul, suddenly there's a squad of Nascent Soul elders around every single corner. Now, there are some Immortal Soul monsters, but those guys are all basically sect leaders. Then, when Lin Feng reaches Immortal Soul using his s*upid elixir, can you guess what happens? All of a sudden, every other enemy he encounters is in the Immortal Soul stage! He can fight some grunts from a secret organization, and they're all Immortal Soul. This is one of my absolute least favorite tropes in novels. Inconsistent power levels means power progression is just not satisfying. This is why I don't read cultivation novels.

The only things I care about are the disciples, but the author seems to want to always talk about the adventures of Lin Feng. If the story was just about the adventures of Shi Tianhao, Xiao Yan, Zhu Yi, and the other disciples it would actually be alright. They have good chemistry with one another. But no, it's all about Lin Feng. Incredibly boring. <<less

Read up to the 1100th chapter then stop. Can't tolerate the word-filling of nonsense and meaningless martial art name. The writer was wise and found the big loophole in Chinese novel payment system, the pay-per-word. The other writers could only fill chapters after chapters with repeating plots and words, thus destroying their novels at the very beginning. But this author used the darn-very-long martial-art-name, and the meaningless battle which ensuring the MC's winning with no effort.

Not actually novel review but my feeling because there already are lots of good review.... more>> TRUST the reviewers who gave 2-3 stars rating. They are right and honest. <<less
