Written at c33: I have yet to read a bad story from this author and I'm beginning to wonder if one even exists ;)

If you liked any of his other series, you'll like this. Good characters, good writing, strong world building, its all here.

Edit (chapter 45) : I've realized that this series does have one major flaw: it's combat. Its a bit boring. Its the basic guts = power = win in any situation formula that anyone who's familiar with generic shounen works knows by heart. Hopefully this will... more>> change later when his repertoire of techniques increases, but for now, its definitely the least interesting part of the series. Especially since the "undeafeted" in the title is unlikely to be proven wrong, which completely kills any tension the fights might otherwise have had.

Edit (chapter 362) : The techniques used in the fights grew more varied, but they never really became interesting. Unfortunately, they are often the primary focus of the series, and it is becoming very hard to maintain an interest in it as a result. This is undoubtedly the worst story I've read from this author. <<less

To be honest I was disappointed, because that title caught my attention and I was expecting something great, but it was the opposite, the story couldn't get past tournaments or school kids bickering among themselves and prolong training.

So I have read this novel ahead in raws, turns out that there isn't any internal cultivation and are practicing techniques of order ranging 1, 2, 3.....8, 9, 10.. quite different from a usual web novels. The MC here cannot be said a person with awesome intelligence where he uses his brain and do things but he does all the things instinctively after upgrading his soul to silver level his instincts multiplies by 5 times which gives him opportunity to fight against people with more stronger techniques and he himself is a barbarian who likes to have fights and practice.

He begins chasing for his girlfriend where she in turn go on a journey to unravel some mystery even after 300 I don't think they will meet up though so thus no romance until now. it's a good novel where details of techniques depicted quite well and is quite different from mc's of different novels and power ups too, definitely a good read.

Well it follows the usual MC is a failure in cultivating then find a treasure that has a spirit mentor inside then becomes imba then surprise everyone else then begin travelling. Well at first it has a few interesting elements but the story is just a continuous train-fight-find some treasure then repeat again throughout the story. MC is really childish and really really arrogant at the point that I really think he is really s*upid. He never have a plan and just straight go to his enemies then defeat them... more>> using his really really thick PLOT ARMOR! As in every time he see his enemies that are stronger than him he will just go straight to them but still manage to kill them because of sudden breakthrough. I dont mind those type of fights but it really gets too repetitive and there really are no character development.

I read this because same author with WOC and I liked the writing style of that novel but this one really is far from that, im really disappointed. <<less

This is a dead end. If it weren't for the fact that there are some moments of slight humor that is somewhat surprising, the mediocre combat and training sessions that make up the entirety of this series would be a 2-star at best. The occasional humor salvages that rating, but that doesn't mean it's worth your time. It's actually worse because it breaks that mind-numbing shitty writing most wuxia have by having slightly clever moments that ruin your empty-headed tr*shy wuxia novel vibe. It would probably be easier to read... more>> if it was more consistently poorly written, because the few gems in there are almost jarring from the tr*shy-immersion that come with the majority of the wuxia genre. You want me to recommend this novel? No.

I actually suggested another novel that I rated 2 stars because at least it was mind-numbingly standard wuxia fare that allowed you to shut your brain off, but this one raises your expectations for a fraction of the time then goes back to pissing you off. In many ways, that makes this a worse series, but objectively, I still have to rate it 3-stars even if I don't want to. <<less

The strong point of this novel could be said the characters. The antagonists all have a good personality and don't go acting arrogant or s*upid. If the Mc's of all the novels are calm and cool, then isn't it too boring? The MC here has a very cheerful personality and a little muscle brained, but has good instincts. The world building is sub par even though it's the start of the novel I can guess that it will be the same all along. Although the world scale is vague, the... more>> important places are named after constellations and are know for their individual power and treasures named after said constellations. The whole novel is about finding unique treasures based on the constellations and practicing their martial art after another with levels 1 to 10 from lowest to highest in power. The cultivation is very unique and takes a very wuxia approach in training. The fights are all well described. Looking forward to more chapters. Awesome job Translators. <<less

So, this is my first mini review on this site, I feel that the MC has a very boring and bland personality. He seems childish, very bad at expressing gratitude to the people who do him good, he's too much of the "headstrong youth" cliché, and the only deeming feature he has is that he is hard working, but when you compare it to say World of Cultivation, he has basically nothing he excels at besides his op 'intuition'. Up untill chapter 128 there hasn't been even 1 character I... more>> found interesting in the story besides his spirit general. Even his love interest seems bland and childish. The only thing that kept me going untill chapter 128, was basically that he uses close combat martial arts, which I found interesting compared to most xianxia with sword wielders. But he goes through different skills like other people go through a box of chocolate on movie night. The only thing I found 'good' about the story was the little bit of humor that made me smile a few times.

But even ISSTH has more humour and alot more interesting characters.

Sorry for sounding too negative, but if you compare this to World of Cultivation, this is a far cry from the quality of that novel. all in all I don't recommend this, unless you're waiting for updates on different novels, like ISSTH, WoC, TMW or others like them. <<less

Picked up this novel 5 days ago, I am currently on chapter 333 and I want more. If you like WoC, this is the next best and most similar novel that has plenty of translated chapters. This has become one of favorites. For the comments below complaining about the MC "picking up" a cheat item (more like he already had it for years, did you even read the novel before giving that 1 star), most MCs (even for anime and some western stories) are able to stand out due to... more>> extraordinary luck of some sort. It always comes down to having extraordinary background / birth or a lucky encounter. If this is your reason for bashing this novel then you should also be bashing MCs like Harry Potter, Spiderman, Naruto, Lelouch, Meng Hao, Linley, and Luffy. It's a action / martial artist novel, no luck or no special background = MC will not stand out or go above mediocre.

Pros:
-group/army building, humor (to my liking), money making, etc like WoC
-a cultivation world where body/blood modification and mechanical engineering are important
-characters are not as one-dimensional like most xianxia / wuxia novels (a specialty of the author)
-Little to no romance like WoC (I saw a comment complaining about this but this is a huge positive for me because romance is just a waste of time in my opinion. According to a posted newspaper segment I read on wuxiaworld, romance is not very popular for its readers).

Cons:
-Similar to WoC, the beginning is slow and focuses a lot on grinding for the MC. It took around 100 chapters for Zuo Mo to venture out on his awesome adventure while this novel takes slightly less chapters.
-translation is a bit rushed (obvious spelling errors and unsure if the author can't count or error in translation of numbers)
-Like other novels, there are skip-worthy chapters once in a while. For example, the chapters solely for power ups and long-fighting scenes. However, this happens less as this novel goes on. <<less

Another Fang Xiang novel! Like WoC, the characters are what make the story. Stubborn training idiot MC and the various characters around him are outstandingly done. No one looks generic, and the interactions are addicting to read.

This story is kind of what I imagined WDQK would be, except WDQK went the generic plot route and MGA-esque tone of story while UGW sticks to the plot of a training idiot getting stronger. He was a training addict at the beginning, and is still a training addict now. No idiotic change to... more>> some generic plot that doesn't work. Just plain epicness.

Like WoC, there are three general power systems in the novel, and we can see the MC touching upon them all. There is the martial area where people use Spirit Armor and Weapons to promote their power and train their skills and cultivation through the teachings of Spirit Cards. There's the Onyx group that focuses on the body and activating epic blood meridians to gain special abilities and stronger power. And then there's the clan union which focuses on fusing the body with Spirit Generals (Read And Find Out) and other Spirit Cards in a seriously cheat way of becoming powerful.

Why should you read this? Cause it's a Fang Xiang work. it's also 200 chapters translated... Oh, there's a teacher ghost who has just as much personality as you'd expect from a Fang Xiang novel.

Seriously though, Fang Xiang writes good characters... <<less

It is a interesting wuxia, as the main character and the support character is pretty entertaining. I rate the author's other works Five Ways to Heaven and World of Cultivation as 5 star works. However reading this I can see some pretty apparant flaws. The fights are really boring, the main character wins every fight flawlessly. There is no tension. The main character has not even had a really difficult fight yet, and he just plows over everyone he is faced against. Even in places where he should not easily... more>> win, he still wins without breaking a sweat. The techniques are really poorly described and all seem to blend into one technique. In World of Cultivation even when the techniques were vaguely described they still were very vivid in their use and had clear effects on the opponent. I think a problem is the main character learns extremely similar techniques (palm technique, fist technique, finger technique... etc).

However it is still only 68 chapters in, so I hope it improves in the future. I am also hoping his mastery of the fundamentals is mentioned more often, I mean he learned a killing technique with them and never used them. I really hope it does not become a generic wuxia powerfest.
5/5 stars for the characters, world build
-1 star for the fights.

Edit 2:

I decided to give this another go and read until chapter 260. I have no idea how the author managed to make such a bland and uninteresting story. His other novel World of Cultivation is one of my favorite novels on this site. However there are numerous problems with this novel that make me disbelieve this was written after WoC, because there are certainly aspects that are similar to WoC but UGOW has so many more flaws. This is not even half as good as WoC.

1. The main character is bland and boring. Generic hot blooded protag. Never does anything because all his comrades do anything that requires thought. Any character in this story is more interesting than the MC, his first follower is infinity times more interesting than him. I was wishing the whole time after he was introduced that he was the main character instead. I wish I could describe how unlikeable the MC is to me, he never thinks, he always wins due to his luck and "monster intution" I don't hate dumb MCS, if the MC had some personality, then it would be ok. The author just managed to make the most brain dead uninteresting main character of all time.

2. The story is disjointed. When I was reading through I kept noticing how the story did not seem to transition from one area to the next. What happens is the author will write side characters and places then suddenly the MC will move onto the next area and they will be never mentioned again. Its hard to describe but I never seemed to care about anything he does in the worlds because he will leave in a few chapters and nothing will be mentioned again. Side characters are made and then abandoned. While the love interest who the MC is chasing after is the second least interesting character in this novel. In WoC the author did such a good job of transitioning between areas so the story never felt messy.

3. There is no tension. The MC always wins. There is never any doubt about this. Even if the MC is dumb as bricks and I wish with all my might he will lose, he will still win. His Spirit Generals are eternal Deus Ex Machina if the author feels like bringing out a big boy to fight the MC. Unlike WoC where the author was skilled in creating tension even with crafting and other misc skills, this novel feels like the MC is at disneyland. The MC never meets a rival, or never fights people he cant beat without the help of Deus Ex Machina. In WoC we had 100 chapters dedicated to the MC planning to beat the boss of the area, and in this novel the MC just charges in without thoughts and wins.

4. Techniques are still poorly described. I still have no idea what exactly are blood merdians, or how they are different from martial spirits. How the hell do people merge mechanical engineering with blood merdians. I have no idea what the thousand techniques the main character uses are supposed to be. They are all essentially the same, and combat is just a blur to me as the MC uses indistinguishable techniques.

I really liked this novel, really unfortunately only up until the end. What a way to finish a novel.

Spoiler

It takes all the good away. No tying the ends. No character close up.

Even the reason at the beginning, finding of the father does not appear materially.

Although journey was good, I will rememeber this as a wish-not-read novel.

I feel like the author conned me into reading this. The initial impression I got from the MC was someone who was cool-headed, hard working, unaffected by the opinions of others, and an all-around cool guy. Then I learned he's just kind of dumb. He reminds me of the MC of AC but far less clever. I personally made it to about chapter 50 before the s*upidity and lack of explanations about the setting made me give up.

Fair warning, I skimmed (meaning 1 minute to a chapter) over a majority of the chapters around chapters 600-800.

Taken arc-by-arc, this is a very good novel, with good comedic moments and very well fleshed out characters. However, when taken as a whole there are a few major problems which stand out.

Spoiler

MC's goal from almost the very beginning is to find his girlfriend, and find out about his parents. However these plots play out very unsatisfying. His girlfriend only reunites with him around chapter 900. His father is mentioned as the master of Gemini constellation, and that's it. Nothing is said about his mother's death. Considering the fact that these mysteries are what kept me reading, after finishing I was more than just angry (thankfully my laptop survived, unfortunately the pencil broke in two). This is very similar to World Of Cultivation, where although the mystery is solved, it is still unsatisfying. Also like any well written novel on this website this suffers from a Bad-Ending-Syndrome. That was expected so no pencil-breaking happened over it.

If I was to give a rating it would be 3.5, but I rounded it up rather than down.

The title made this sound like it was going to be an adventure but the reality is this novel is stuck in the train and bicker loop. I wouldn't have minded it (since its common in these types of novels) if there were actual story telling involved - there isn't. Or if the training and bickering were interesting - they aren't. There are barely any paragraphs that describe the environment, people, or progression of plot. Instead the author decides to fill chapters with childish bickering and awkward conversations (seriously cringe... more>> worthy and eye-roll inducing). We are led to believe that the MC is 17 years old, but his actions, personality and the way he speaks are that of a 7 years old - like literally, I though I was reading about a mischievous child like in PW until his age came up.

The author doesn't seem to have grasped story telling in this novel. Do not bother with this one. Use your time elsewhere. <<less

The novel is a type of weak-to-strong with clear goals defined and very likable cast of characters. The world building is good, not great, but it helps to entrance you.

I think It's another great novel by author Fang Xiang (World of Cultivation).

Why I enjoy reading this series are the following reasons:
Tang Tian, the main character of this story isn't a whiny loser nor a pathetic dude that is depressed because of his lack of strength. He is introduced with some problems in his pasts and mysterious "cheat" left by... more>> his mother. He isn't one to cry, rage and get the phony determination to get one over the Heavens which have somehow wronged him with this destiny, with this life.

Fighting the Heavens for justice, Benevolent Buddha with heart of mu*derous desire, sending every "evil" guy for eternal swim session at the Yellow River... no, this xianxia is directly opposite!

MC is extremely positive, you can feel his passion about cultivating and getting stronger to attain his goals. With a catchphrase in mind he is ready to pull all the stops in training and fights. Surpassing his peers is just another way to better himself. Hardworking, with dreams and blunt personality.

Really liking how people who know they have reached their limits in cultivation decide to help him not only because they want to see young people succeed in what they could not, but kinda test him if he is worth placing their dream on him. The always cheerful vibe around the MC and the supporting characters quickly makes the dull overused tropes seem to be done right. There story flow is great, as training, serious battles and lots of jokes all congeal into great detailed and engaging story which pulls the reader in enjoyable state.

Now to explain some things: his "cheat" isn't anything heaven defying and possibly unique to him. What gives our MC is the opportunity to get stronger and how do you ask?

Training. The hellish kind of training that requires one to have an indestructible determination and willpower that will lead you on the path to look down on Heavens. It's portrayed as show, don't tell.

As for the "Undefeated" in the title to me it suggests that in a life and death battle he is undefeated. Any other battle that doesn't have his life on the line isn't battle to him, but a way to temper himself for what's to come.

I rate it 5 stars as the balance between quality of story, different cast of characters and new locations that doesn't make you feel like story is following a formula doesn't make me lose interest and also enjoy the journey!

Not to forget to thank the translators that give us lots of chapters! <<less

Probably the biggest let-down ever. The story was great until the last 50 chapters where the author literally ended it as quickly as possible. No resolution, so many unanswered questions, and a pathetic excuse for an ending. I honestly regret having spent as much time as I did reading 943 chapters, just to end with this steaming pile. Don't waste your time, the disappointing ending completely ruins everything this story had going for it.

I definitely like the fact that this novel doesn't deviate the MC's character too much from how it originally was. There is definitely character growth along the way (albeit slow) but it doesn't drastically change. He still is a little idiotic but battle crazy and the way he cultivates is still similar to how he started. The thing that is a bit of a issue is the fact that sometimes there are errors with regards to time but it's easy to figure out. (Don't know if it's the author's mistake... more>> or a mistranslation) but other than that it is pretty consistent. P.S. I really hope that this becomes a manhua; it would definitely be entertaining <<less

REFRESHING.. With such a novel i'll just make it short.

Although this novel doesnt have the Hardcore and explosiveness of the usual xianxia. The charm of this novel is its simpleness. The simplicity and innocence of the train of thoughts and actions are simply too charming. I dont care what other thoughts i'll rate this 5

I read all the up to chapter 98. The story and everything weren't that engaging for me. I mostly read this novel until now because novelupdates listed World of Cultivation as a shared universe, but that seems like a bunch of bullsh*t because nothing about these two are the same at all. Not the world building, not the techniques, or style of cultivation or organization. World of Cultivation is one of the best novels out there, this one is probably a work he did before he did World of Cultivation.

Really liking it so far. I've found that the novels by this author each have their own brand of uniqueness, and this one is no exception. No brain numbing repetition, just good story telling.

I also enjoy the fact that the battles are well-fleshed out. I hate it when battles are won by whoever's ray of light (transformed into the appropriate intimidating animal shape >.>) is bigger, or by whose cultivation level is stronger. This one features individual techniques that the characters train in (to the point of developing their own... more>> killer technique on the part of the MC). The techniques are well utilized too; it's not just a matter of whose technique level is rated higher.

Really looking forward to more chapters :) (Will probably resort to machine translations once I finish reading the machine translated version of another novel I'm currently reading) <<less
