The plot progresses quite well for my taste and the characters are interesting. For a BL novel I'm quite happy that the "love-making" is not the focus. Light and a little silly. Has action, a little gore and comedy. Thank god the characters are not s*upidly in love. This is worthy of a 5/5.

Read until 100th before drop. I would five this novel 4 stars IF the BORING handjob/blowpipe/s*x scenes were kicking out. These 断袖 scenes were not only poorly written & poor taste, they intoxicated what-should-be-good story. Skip reading didn't improve the whole story because some of those pushing-down-your-throat scenes were important plot development. Long live 龙阳君 (though he already dead).

Story is interesting, funny and you just can not read it without smile on your face.

I’m not a fan of BL stuff, and I have tried this one up to 32, but I’m still dropping it because it does not fill my tastes, really, well translated and written, as already mentioned, it is a delightful read. Just that I can’t stomach yaoi, and I had eyes but didn't see the TAGS.

This is one of the best yaoi novels ive read. Its sure to improve your mood.

Even if your not a BL novel fan, I still recommend this novel as a casual light read.

at the beginning we have this lad trying to tell heads from tails in this situation, so one is as lost as he is. but then the story goes on and starts taking a definite and very lovable form. -the chapters are shortish at the start, they become of the "perfect" lenght later, in my opinion.
-the plot is awesome. aye, it's not a PWP.
-the world building is also really cool, although to be honest we haven't seen that much of it. the adventure part is still not strong in this one, as the MC is still a chick in the nest. but maybe he will leave one day. (and he has enough troubles as it is xD)
-yay for unlucky MC (wait, may I be a hidden sadist?!?)
-if I had to issue a complaint; the MC is a bit too innocent. if I had to give a praise: the MC is a bit too inocent :) I'm not making sense of myself, but yeah, even if he is a bit too inocent, the way his inocence is played with, I am NOT going to complain. (i wonder if that sounds sick xD)

Love it.I literally in love with the ML he is selfish but in my opinion he is a good lover and yet he is a little bit possessive but that is all I love about him and yeah I'm in love with his characteristics and I really hope that author show more about ML point of view and ML scene but I'm really enjoyed this novel.

This is one of the longest novels I've ever attempted to read, but the way the story goes it doesn't even seem that long or tiring to read.

I took a break from reading it because I was so sick and tired of the ML calling the MC dumb at every slightest chance. But the blatant sexism in this. It's always 'Oh she's one of the top ten practitioners/mage, but the reason why she failed an arduous task (that so many other people, including and mostly men have failed) is because she's a girl. It irks me so much.

Another thing that pisses me off is how s*x is always used as a form of punishment for the shou; it's always "do this or else" or as a "promise". Even though the s*x is described as extremely pleasurable for the shou, he rarely ever seems to initiate and is almost never receptive of the ML's s*xual advances and has to be coerced into it. Maybe they're trying to create an image where the MC is innocent or coquettish, but it just gives the ick. The author deliberately mentioned how the ML wants consensual s*x but later events will show that this was just a perfunctory statement.

Also what's up with all the female characters being so insufferable. The only likeable female was always put down as being old even though she was described as looking like she was in her 30s and they also made her weak and basically non existent even though when she was first introduced it seemed like she'd be a big deal. Overall it's still a very good story, just a gift that keeps giving when it comes to plot. <<less

MC he's funny with his rebuttals as he gets more confidence, there's alot of growth, he got smarter and more ruthless. He's just a modern man, using his Earth brain and try to adapt to this more ruthless and calculating world. In the beginning it was peaceful cultivation then it all went off track when trouble starts. The cannon villain fodders came and be annoying pest blablablablabla. I was worry about MC so much, his personality doesn't change. But he get progressively smarter and more cunning under Ml's influence

Romance? It started out as threat to make pills, then teasing fro amus**ent, then s*x and love. It was weird like how ML just realize he is in love. I don't know it was more like entertainment. Then they just batter ML calling MC idiots, punish him with s*x for wrong doings, then the cycle continues they travel and do this and that. I guess it was fine. The smut was meh it wasn't descriptive enough I find it boring. They half ass it

MC levels ups so fast so there's the unreal sense in that but they would give him hacks of course.

The power levels is just messes up all the time it's harder to keep track, also all those side characters, there are too many I couldn't keep track, but thanks translators for reminders!

I don't really feel for this novel enough, but it's good to read for others who like like this bl cultivation without sad feelings. Usually I tend to avoid cultivation bl novel, they usually end in depression and angst, I feel down after reading those, This one is more funny funny and leisure. <<less

Romance and Cultivation stuff are balanced in this novel. And both main characters shine equally. Their chemistry is also so natural that mad me read this novel again and again!

I'm tired of reading, every single woman present in the story except Ning Jing daoshi is portrayed to have really horrible personalities. There are a lot of instances of the MC's biased thoights being really irritating like the stuff with lady boys and his outlook on women. The MC gets progressively dumber and the ML is a controlling rapist that loses his expression of love towards MC as the story goes along. He constantly "teases" (more like berates ugh) the MC and I really am not sure if I can... more>> stand another 300+ chapters of this so I'm stopping for now. <<less

Hmm I understand why people gave this story low ratings. It's not really oh so good story nor it's really terrible story. Every character has ups and downs but overall story is entering and easy to follow. I have read this novel multiple times. I really like it at first I wasn't sure how I felt about it but for some reason I really enjoy it. Everytime I read it I pick up on something new I never I'd the previous times. I am very picky when it comes to novels but this and tgcf have become comfort novels for me.

It's my second time reading this. Although it's not as wonderful as the first time I read it, but the whole story is stil very interesting and the loongg journey makes me feel like witnessing the protagonist grow from zero

So this is among my best BL novels along with GDC and Quickly wear the face of the devil. So to be honest, the novel is okay for me so I don't really get over how people don't really like it but then again you can never find a perfect novel out there that everybody likes. Everyone has deferring opinions for everything, some people are going to hate it and some people are going to like it so all about your preference.

For me, the MC is good. I like MC.... more>> He's okay. He is described as a genius in cultivation and alchemy. He has this very unique soul colour and all that but he also actually works hard too.

Now to the ML, some say he's like a sociopath. I'll have to admit that it's kinda true but what do you expect, his family from both sides reject him and have been low key trying to kill him. But he does care about the MC. He literally does everything the MC wants him to do and he really spoils him.

Yes, the ML can be really cruel and decisive. He quite literally burnt somebody's eyes from their skull (while he was still alive and well) but there was a reason for that.

I love the novel, it's rank among my top three best BL novels and this is like the 4th time I'm re-reading it from beginning to end so if it's not your cup of tea you can read other ones.

Yeah, the extras are a must-read. I love the extras extras that's what I mostly come back again and again and again to re-read. I've read like the extra like seven times like I don't get tired of re-reading it. They are my most favourite part of the novel. <<less

i am annoyed with MC character, I think he is really idiot. In the first half of the book he is so innocent that he is willing to be bullied. both s*xual and romance tension tbh disappointed me. They make love yet there seems to be no sense and passion at all because from the beginning ML forced MC, not something voluntary. Ml's ictation character is really serious and which makes me furious MC doesn't fight back at all.

also MC in the book is really described like a woman who makes me uncomfortable. For example, why is Tang Yunqi jealous of MC but not Zhou Peng? Even though they are the same men who are close to ML (ML and mc's relationship initially can also be described by outsiders as friends, why do they directly target MC, which is very unreasonable.)

some conflict is senseless, revolving around the jealousy and envy of one sect + one academy. I think because they moved from north to south I hope the author includes a more serious conflict but until chapter 279 there are really few conflicts that are really considered serious. I only picked this up because I had a bit of time on my hands and I don't regret doing it at all. Although the number of chapters might look a little daunting let me reassure you that it's definitely worth siting down for hours to read.

I can say that I loved the relationship between the MC and the ML. It was soo wholesome. Lots of people say that their relationship seems kinda superficial. Their relationship actually progresses a lot through the chapters becoming more meaningful and you can tell... more>> just how much they care for each other. I also particularly love the MC personality - so frickin CUTE! The MC's character development was also a gem to behold. You wouldn't believe what that lovely innocent child turned into at the end ;)

There was a point in the story where I felt like everything was a little monotonous and wanted to stop reading the book but I am so glad I didn't. Seriously, if you got halfway into the book and wanted to stop reading it why not just finish the other half? Either way, don't judge the book if you haven't read through the whole thing, cause it really picks up later.

This novel has good and bad reviews. I have read reviews from both sides and this is my opinion about if it is worth reading for people who are indecise.

I finished reading this novel some weeks ago, after being addicted to it for quite some months. It gave me time to reflect.

I am a relatively new reader of the xianxia genre, as when I first started this novel I had only read a couple other classics works. Thus, my point of view won't be as profound and will just view... more>> the new perspective it gave me.

For a beginner in the genre, this novel is a great introduction to the cultivation world, as it's lengthy in the descriptions of the mechanisms that rule it and the lifestyle. It has many fantasy features, which enriches the plot, characters and so. Because the protagonist or main character (XiaoMo) has transmigrated and has to learn everything anew, it helps the reader adapt to the new circumstances.

What I really liked too was that the story doesn't come short when taking about the refining process (alchemy) and cultivation process. Because of that, I could understand the hardships that the characters had to go through and empathize with them. And also it made the journey much more exciting!

It's true that the relationship between XiaoMo (MC) and Lingxiao (ML) at the first stages is very forced and can be considered as bullying or of convenience (as some reviews commented), no one can't say that it doesn't develop throughout the story. There are truly beautiful tender moments that show how they deeply care for each other.

At first, the relationship seems unbalanced, and some side characters even think so, because LingXiao may act like the proactive character and may seem that holds most of the power (relationship and cultivation wise), but, as readers, I finally came to understand that both have to work hard to accomplish their achievements and complement each other very well, and deserve to be together. Also, they come across a lotta luck.

The plot is well developed and interlaced. I also laughed a lot, AND became frustrated a lot too. It has many turns and twists and there are things that are left unresolved. While some think these are holes, I consider them as things to be left to the reader. Which I think, gave me freedom to interpret the story my way. Which I liked.

In conclusion, it very worthwhile reading AND re-reading. If you are looking to a novel which is centered towards a more complex world building rather than romance, is fun and intriguing and makes you reflect and cry sometimes, it is perfect for you. While some aspects can be questionable, this story satisfies many different likes.
