I Got Reincarnated And Mistaken As A Genius?

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Arakawa Kouki is reincarnated to a Japan with a different history than the Japan he knows with the memories of his previous life still intact. Kouki was discouraged, “Aren’t reincarnation stories supposed to be at some fantasy world filled with swords, magic and elves?!”

But one day, his random scribbles leads (his mom) to the discovery of a certain formula, which as a result, leads him to be mistaken as a genius by the entire world.

For that achievement he is sent to the school of prodigies, the State Technology Academy, where he meets the Canadian girl, Alice, and the robot engineering genius, Shingo. And even at such a place, he is still mistaken as a genius?! Every time Kouki shows his knowledge from his previous life, he is mistaken as a genius, and everywhere he goes irregularity follows.

This is the comedic life of a genius reincarnation loaded with misunderstandings.

The most this work amounts to is cheapening the value of science. The fatal flaw is that the main character's intelligence is never convincingly demonstrated to the audience; it's built entirely off misunderstandings with minor characters and the author's excessive hand-waving of technical details.

Spoiler

The MC is being sent to a school for the sake of converting him into becoming a moral and upstanding member of society. Nobody's even done a psych eval on him.

The MC makes a doodle. We are never told about the contents of his doodle, yet it somehow inspires his mother to make a breakthrough in the field of quantum physics. Yet he only has a basic comprehension of high-school level mathematics. I've learned linear differential equations and I'm still lacking a solid enough foundation to even approach the math behind quantum physics.

The MC doesn't believe himself to be particularly smart, yet he invents an "anti-cancer medical pod." The takeaway lesson from this isn't that the MC is dense; it is that the author also grossly misunderstands cancer. The MC also improves tanks, power suits, and missiles beyond the cutting edge level.

Okay, so maybe he's normal and everyone else is just an idiot, right? Nope, because this new world apparently has a greater level of scientific progress--it puts man on the moon two decades earlier.

The mother is as blind as a bat when it comes to the political arena. If the UN council wanted to "dispose" of her son, they would first ensure that any potential opponents would have as much success at resisting as a paraplegic up against a pack of wolves. At the very least, her husband, and all his loyal followers, would be dead.

The husband's troops are explicitly noted to be primarily composed of women. That's downright depressing.

I expect future chapters to be even more depressing.

It seems that the MC is in absolute denial of his own genius. Fun times look to be had in future chapters---perhaps in the upcoming school arc?

Nothing much to comment on thus far; will update review when more chapters are released.

I'll be honest. I'm almost certain the reason this series has so many 5 star votes is due to the rather flawed system of not letting people change their votes if they change their mind later and this series is the perfect example of a good concept executed poorly.

The reason I say that is because the series starts out with a really unique premise. But as you continue reading it becomes clear the author really only had one type of joke in mind when writing this and literally couldn't think... more>> of anything else to do with the story to save his life.

The whole premise is that he's mistaken as a genius and that is what basically everything revolves around and while that isn't bad the way the author goes about showing this gets face palmingly bad.

Spoiler

For example he apparently uses his knowledge of mecha anime and junk to come up with exo suit concepts which his mother looks and and is instantly inspired on how to make them a reality. THAT DOESN'T MAKE HIM A GENIUS!!! In fact how the hell did no one come up with such basic concepts like removable parts when they apparently have the tech to make exo suits? even if you assume their way of thinking is just different why does even his mother think he deserves credit for their creation when he only proposed a really basic concept?

[collapse]

If it was just little misunderstandings like that I'd rate this average and okay. But it gets even worse

Spoiler

See at one point he wants to get rid of the weeds but doesn't want to pull them all out. So instead he remembers a homemade weed killer remedy he learned in his previous life. But SOMEHOW rather than killing weeds he creates some sort of super chemical weapons that kills everything and spreads like a virus. They had to have hazmat teams and everything.

To make things EVEN WORSE somehow LITERALLY EVERYONE assumes that he intentionally made a chemical weapon to kill the weeds instead of assuming he tried to make weed killer and somehow was way more potent than he intended.

So as a result everyone is literally terrified of him because they think he'll destroy humanity on a whim if he gets bored..... because of freaking weed killer.

[collapse]

Basically instead of the author writing a story where the MC uses knowledge from our world that his new one somehow lacks to appear like a genius (which is what you'd think it would be about) it's basically just about some moron who doesn't really know anything randomly coming up with ideas that either people around him somehow make into reality or he attempts himself with household items only to somehow create stuff that could destroy humanity somehow even though that shouldn't have been possible as far as he knew. <<less

I just want to start off by saying that this is an absolute HIDDEN GEM!

It has plenty of nice comedy bits that can really make you burst out laughing! I really find myself wondering if the protagonist is just really as average as he think he is? Or if he might really actually be some sort of real genius without even knowing it? In the prologue it does even mention... well its a tiny spoiler but I will spoiler it anyways
... more>>
Spoiler

He did mention that he doesn't remember his past life's family, his name or the like, just that he was basically having a breakdown and crying to his boss, BEGGING for a vacation. he died, and he was waiting for what was happening to him, he was thinking about what he knows such as 1+1=2 and what he thought was probably upper level high school math. How his English wasn't so good but he spoke Russian well. Small joke from early prologue? He felt his lover was being in a PC... and he thought to himself his memories must be jumbled. I'm going out on a limb for no reason and say, I wonder if it was an AI? He did say he thinks he might have been a researcher

[collapse]

All that being said the "misunderstandings" tag is VERY appropriate here some examples I will mention in the major spoilers below. (as they get very descriptive of what happens in their mentioned chapters).

Spoiler

The misunderstandings seem to start at chapter 2, and everything spirals out of control from there. He was age 4. He found what he thought was a numerical quiz and he just... solved it! as if it was some sort of Sudoku puzzle. He decided to make his own, and half way through his mother finds him and what he did was apparently a scientific breakthrough... the protagonist himself had no idea and thought it was just like a puzzle, turns out it was quantum physics!

I think the craziest thing he has done is when he tried to make an herbicide to kill weeds, he even tried to follow a guide on how to make an easy herbicide! But he accidentally made something that instead killed all the grass in hours (seriously how do you mess up that bad?)... he thought it was just the local gardeners that showed up, but it was actually special forces posing as gardeners... They were terrified and said its potency was enough to kill a person in seconds, he thought it was just a mistake from trying to make a weed killer. They thought of him as a person who would unleash that terrifying biological weapon just because he didn't like the weeds!

Later on in that same chapter he learned from his mistake... and decides to use a power suit he built with his mom to pull weeds, he thought it was just a normal house powered suit (yes that is what they are calling them) that was available to the public. He was being observed by one of his dad's secret agent co-workers to make sure he doesn't go out of control (this started after that herbicide incident... That agent's interpretation was that he was doing a power on test for, and what was apparently a 6th generation military grade powered armor, which can destroy tanks like they were made of paper. When he saw a weird looking bird, guess who happened to be in an optical camouflage between the bird and him? That special forces girl said she thought she was going to die, and that he saw her despite being in optical camo, her imagination just went wild!

They do a more concise list of the things he has done in chapter 5.

For those wondering why I think his girlfriend may have been AI, he solved a quantum physics theory, AI movies I see involve quantum physics... he thought of himself as a researcher and was great at math apparently... could it be? Granted I am making plenty of assumptions here and on tropes from movies

[collapse]

There are some chapters that seem to tell the same story, but from a different POV (all in the same chapter). Some other reviews think of it as repetitive, and I can see why some would think that, however considering the drastically different interpretations of the perspectives make it all the more hilarious and interesting. I think its great to see what other characters think when things are happening! Especially with how HORRIBLE the misunderstandings are (not horrible as in bad, but horrible as in its amazing how far out there things have been getting blown out of proportion.)

But you know, with all that said and done. Is he really being mistaken as a genius with people all to conveniently filling in the blanks? Or could it be that he really is a super genius and he himself just doesn't know it? <<less

Seems very interesting so far. MC looks like a reasonable person, which can't be said for a lot of reincarnated protagonists. Also, seeing the tenderness in the PoV of the mother is nice.

This is a really great novel. Because of the multiple POV of the characters, and epilogue are there it became really fun to read. The MC is not really dense. Though he is just mistaken as a genius, he's way thinking can't just be treat as a norm. There are many good things that will happen that I didn't expect.

Spoiler

It may be a big spoilers

-Alice will immediately confessed to the MC in early chapter
-Contact with intelligent being (girl) in space.
-Traveling in world of sword and magic not just the MC but their whole organization.
-Having a divine ancient dragon as a pet which has a high intelligence.
-Requesting reinforcement in their world from the other world. (Dragon, Arachne, Kraken)

This novel is somehow random if you look at the story arcs and it what makes the story more interesting. That's why I really really recommend this to other readers.

The story is rather stale, the first couple chapters were unique and rather well written, but fourteen chapters later the joke of the MC being misunderstood is like beating a dead horse. The author does not make enough variety in the misunderstandings to keep the story fresh so the story quickly becomes predictable and samey.

The writing style writes a segment from the view of one person then follows up with the view of the MC, then sometimes with the view of a third person. All I can think is that... more>> the author is padding out wordcount, the first few chapters were a bit unique in the content of these povs, but the author starts to become lazy and the povws become quickly similar to each other. Each chapter becomes reading the same story twice slightly different. <<less

It appears that a lot of people chalk up the Protag’s accomplishments to “Comedic nonsense” that undermeans science in the modern world. I agree, yes a lot of things in the novel are to be seen as rediculous and impossible for a normal reincarnator to “accidentally” accomplish, but there are two things I have to point out.

First if all, the world where Protag reincarnates into likely has some different laws of physics, as most fantasy novels do, so we can’t just go silly with our modern perceptions of science and... more>> applying it to another (I assume) dimension or universe.

My second point is my own theory on why Protag is a “Genius” and happens to handle every situation masterfully.

Spoiler

I believe that Protag is mentally ret*rded. Whether it be the legendary “Savant” syndrome or some mental illness/disability in the new world, Protag’s thoughts projected onto the pages of the novel could be seen through a filter. It could be either way, we could be seeing the product of Protag’s thoughts after they’ve been rearranged, or before. This would explain moments where he solves things legitimately instead of “accidentally”. Sometimes, Protag acts out of character, mature, calm, cold almost. If his actions and thoughts were controlled by a disorder, it could explain the differences in the way he speaks and talks. If you read through the novels, you will find that Protag mostly narrarates what’s happening and what he says in his mind, but some chapters where his actual dialogue is shown (Mostly in the side character POV chapters, but sometimes in the main POV chaps), Protag acts/talks slightly off compared to his thoughts. And as a spoiler from the end of novel 2, it is revealed that Protag may be reincarnated human that’s gone through at least 2 reincarnations. One from where he apparently married a dragon and had a kid, and the other in the life before the novels.

all in all, I believe that Protag isn’t “super lucky” or anything cliche like that, but he’s actually a special kid who’s story is being told through a mental filter, where we are getting the filtered product, his mental thoughts after going through “ret*rdation”. Narrarator = Fake Protag/Protag’s thoughts post filter

Spoiler

In the beginning, I enjoyed this novel a lot. The way it was written made me think the main character was similar to Patrick from the earlier episodes of SpongeBob, acting like an idiot most of the times but when it really matters he'd say something casually that people would misunderstand and further enforce the idea of him being a genius, and it WAS like that, which made me happy but then it just went down hill. It was fun watching how others thought of him as some monster while he himself thought of himself as an ordinary child, in the beginning, it was fun watching him do s*upid things that caused others to worry about the destruction of the world but sadly all good things must end. I was first disappointed when it was found out that Aikawa started dating Saitou, it's not like I hated it but it was more like it was quite abrupt, I mean I would have been fine if we at least had some development for the both of them first but nope, we are just told Saitou saved her with the power of mechanical c*ckroaches. Then there's Alice, maybe I accidentally skipped a chapter or 5 but I don't remember Kouki doing anything to suddenly receive the love of the girl, her background also seems to be a mess but I'm blaming that on the way this story is written so I won't go into that. Finally, the thing that made me drop this novel would be when Kouki got sent to another world and brought back a dragon egg... Like seriously, a dragon's egg. I thought this was supposed to be a sci-fi / modern day type novel, why the hell would you try to incorporate fantasy?! In the end, he even ends up traveling to the other world with an organization to escape earth, which I find is just more tiring then s*upid. So in summary, the beginning it was funny then, later on, it became more confusing and tiring to read.

[collapse]

After reading it again I finally realised why I started to hate this series besides the above reason, it was the abruptness of the fantasy element being added in. Like it was as if the author just woke up from a nap and thought sci-fi was boring so he just threw fantasy in to it. Sci-fi and fantasy can go together, I'm completely fine with it after seeing several novels like that, what I hated and was disappointed about was how the author just threw it in without any foreshadowing and expected us to just like it. <<less

400+ Five star ratings But we can't even get a stable translator or keep up with the raws? Wow. But yet other tr*sh- whoops I meant uninteresting, over rated, irrelevant novels get updated daily, weekly, monthly but we cant even get 1 every now and then? Now I wont go as far as saying its the BEST novel and it deserves all the attention it gets but the ratings speak for themselves.

-This is a RIDICULOUS story (in a positive way) to read, its hysterical. It will throw curve... more>> balls at you when you least expect it. Yes it may be generic, follow templates here and there, and even becomes obvious as to what the end results may be towards the story development but you see, thats the thing even though it's predictable it was still ENJOYABLE to the point that it didnt matter whether or not he saved the day like any other protagonist. Theres plenty more to speak about within these short 21chapters that are out and many more to come. Just hope the author comes back and does what he needs to do and this novel recieving what it deserves. 5/5 <<less

Dull, boring, reads like a collection of monotonous diary entries, also the MC did not start out as some clueless kid, at the very first chapter it states him driving and him being at work shouting at his boss, yet after his reincarnation, he apparently is the most dull and clueless idiot ever, as if he constantly has the common sense of a 5 year old.

The misunderstandings are sometimes funny.... until they are the only thing holding the story together and then it gets dull fast... real fast.

As others have... more>> said, you NEED full suspension of disbelief.
Spoiler

As a brief example: this is a "fully grown working man" who reincarnated, yet after his reincarnation, 1 of his many "misunderstandings" is to fire a cruise missile into space at reincarnated age 13 several times to try and dispose of erot*c mags.. yup, exactly what a grown man would think of.

It start as something good. But yeah, there's no real "story" here. In the later chapters, it seems the author thought he doesn't have the ability to make a real plot out of the novel, so he just went and wrote random sh*t that doesn't have any connections to previous chapters. This novel is overrated and doesn't deserve its current ratings, it should be around 3 stars at most.

A remarkably funny story based on misunderstandings about the MC's true abilities. The level of misunderstandings is comparable to Tilea's Worries. The story is told on many POV's of the characters around our MC, so we can clearly see the thought processes and the misunderstandings the characters have. This is just a hilarious story and isn't a serious story. So if you like a quick comedic read, this story is recommended.

This story is okay. That's the best I can say about it.

This was in my list for a long time, but at this point (c50) I have to give up. This story isn't as bad as many people are saying it is. The key thing you need to understand is that the narrator (the "Genius") is extremely unreliable. The narrator comes from the future; a future where things like Quantum Physics and Advanced Mechanical Design are taught at a High-School level. Since the MC is a super NEET, he has... more>> no concept of society at large and so believes that the world he is in now - a world of advanced science - is similar to the one he left when he died. But it isn't, it is far behind him, and so his "high-school knowledge" is enough to make him a genius that advances the world by decades merely by his knowledge existing and his capable family supporting him.

That is the good part of the story. If that sounds interesting, I encourage you at least give this a shot.

The bad parts are the needless "Shonen Harem Anime" tropes and plots thrown it at random. There is usually no lead-up or narrative justification, rather it just seems the author thinks "this sounds cool" and just jumps from one plot to the next, often before the previous plot has time to finish.

Spoiler

Case in point, the most recent chapter had the MC transport into another world; this time a fantasy one with his family's army and science travelling with him through a wormhole. This was an interesting plot; with the advanced modern army vs the magical armies in war.

The problem is that the author, just like with other plots in the past, never gave it time to breathe. No sooner did they end the battle (and didn't even sign peace treaties with some of the other nations) then the MC is suddenly trying to jump-start an anime revolution?! No lead-up, no narrative reason (if the MC had found out "crime was at an all-time high because of a lack of pop-culture distractions" or something, I could at least give the author a pass).

No, instead he just finds some lolicon weirdo in the army that can draw in the anime style and decides "this alternate world with completely different culture and history will surely love my weird, niche, pop-culture garbage!" I know many of us on this site might enjoy it, but surely even weebs can have enough self-consciousness to know that anime is certainly not for everyone. But of course, this magically works and the media conglomerate becomes the most powerful in the world. How do I know, you ask? Because the author already spoiled the ending before the plot could get off the ground. *Sigh*

[collapse]

Anyway, for this reason, I could not keep up with the story. Up until this point, the plot was interesting, so it might be worth a read, but know that your enthusiasm might die before long, just like mine did. <<less
