Yamai Zenjirou is your everyday office worker in modern Japan. One morning, he suddenly finds himself summoned to a tropical world where dinosaurs roam the land.

He is told that this is the kingdom of Capua and the person who summoned him – its monarch, Queen Aura – wants him to marry her and leave his old life behind for a life of carefree extravagance as her prince consort.

The reasons for her offer are many and varied, but she needs an heir, and she wants him to be the one to provide it! If he accepts, he’ll never have to work again, lazing around in luxury with no worries other than securing the kingdom its next monarch.

Certainly, sleeping with the buxom beauty is far from a hardship, but is everything really as it seems? He’ll also need to give up everything he knows on Earth.

Is he ready to drop it all at a moment’s notice for her sake? And how well will he be able to navigate the politics, people and culture of this new world if he does?

Best slice of life I have read but MC is staring to put me off. Story itself is pretty interesting even though MC is nothing op or special and there is not some intensive fights. And I quite like relationship between MC and wife.

But at the point I'm now MC seems to slowly become just a political chess piece. Combined with fact he's pretty much totally selfless (in a bad way), it makes bit unappealing person. I mean everything he does is based on maintaining stance that he does not... more>> try to get any power, on top of that there is bunch of restrictions on pretty much everything he does. I mean he didn't even accept any money because somehow he reasoned it would make it seem like he's out for power. He can barely even see his son.

I enjoyed this quite bit but all the restrictions on MC and not having any will are just becoming bit tasteless. You really can't call it ideal sponger life in any way. I mean what he has is a lot of restrictions, unpleasant duties, woman, house and food. By omitting restrictions you get pretty average life, so he has it even worse :D

MC is smart, but just a tool that does what he's told and all actions are based on what others want. My issue is not with lack of ambition or mild personality, just the things above. <<less

This is a really refreshing novel in my opinion. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but really worth reading. I think it's a great novel that really depict the every day lifestyle. Definitely a must read for anyone who enjoy a slice-of life genre.

Content: romace, realistic condition, logical thinking over emotional, family drama.

Story: 3.5/5 -good drama, but somehow lack of suspense.

Character: 4/5 character development is matured enough. Plot: 4/5 good plot and enjoyable. The author seems to keep up the event logically and realistically. It's almost get the feeling of reading daily life normal novel rather than fantasy novel.

Recomendation: if you like to read romantic slice of life with matured char development and lots of after though and political dram, here is the one you look at. Do not hope for any... more>> big action or hack and slash or overpower MC or some cheat character in here. All activities done here is logically and realistically done according to the character, not only the MC, but all the person. <<less

the novel is about the daily life of a man from Japan who worked as a salaryman before, then summoned as a prince consort and married the queen of the other world. It is slice of life, so don't expect much of action here. The MC is pretty chill and knows his limit as the prince consort. I love how he is written here, with his flaws as a human, and asks for forgiveness if he is in wrong and the changes of the queen which can be seen from... more>> one chapter to others. There are politic conflicts here as well. Recommended if you are looking for slice-of-life novel. <<less

"This story is not for people who came here for a OP isekai MC, nor for the people who came here for the genius price who is single handedly control a great kindom. Its a slice of life story more accurately a slice of life of a prince consort."

I just came here for new volumes spoiler but the amount of negative reviews are making me crazy. So I am making my own honest review.

First of all the story is a very interesting one. Its not like your typical isekai hero... more>> story like the "Realist hero rebuild the kingdom". For those who know Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, you can practically say that MC's character is inspired by him. Like Prince Philip MC is a prince consort and he will never be a king but he is a very important person in the kingdom. For those who are saying that FC is taking advantage of him its not true, rather if he were to be more popular then a civil might start by the novel who don't like FC with him being in the middle. The politics in this story is no joke and don't take lightly this small political drama. FC has the full right to what she is doing cause this is better for her family and MC and her son is the only family he has so she really care them. Also MC knows well what he is doing.

One of the things I like of the MC is that he is wise and intelligent. Though he sometime causes trouble but thats because he is a noob in politics. But why I said wise cause a lot of isekai MC has everything but they are not wise. I feel like the wise factor is sometime ignored in story making but in here it is not. And those who lack wisdom are the one barking saying that he has no backbone or he is a pown. But in reality if were to show anything extraordinary his wife's and childs life would be in danger cause he is also to some extent a royal and nobility will kill them and make him a poppet king.

I also read some reviews about how he has to behave infront of his children. Thats because they are royal you idiots. Royalty cannot behave as they like because that kind of behavior might pass on to his child who btw is the crown prince. Also
Spoiler

its a iskai world so his language is a problem for a new born child who has lack of mana to convert the japanese to iskai language.

[collapse]

So overall its a very nice story. And those who stumbled in my review note that the negative reviews are all bad review. This story is a mature story and everything in this story is very closely inspired from reality. The politics, court relations, nobility, foreign relations are all very seriously written. So don't take them lightly.

Sorry for any misspelling and grammatical error. <<less

Despite these many negative and sarcastic reviews, the novel really brings much art in that every details were given to everyone who love it, really. The idea that man must have ambitions to have the tangible personality be recognizable is just exceedingly absurd. Of course telling all these reviews how to go about it is also just plain s*upid.

This novel covers about a man who was previously a s*ave from work, as author wants him to be, but then suddenly found his freedom in the form of a different world.

What... more>> standout the most in the novel compared to other work that also have the same concept as world transportation was the fine and slow exploration of human emotions, and how you could overcome it for the sake of the, let's say, country. If I could put this bluntly, our main character is indeed passive when it comes to ambitions and desires. The reason on why he's passive could be explain through understanding the implication of being transported to a different world, which the author very much like to emphasized from the very beginning. Also, the main character is not bland in the least, he's using his brain to get pass any malice or any of that matter detrimentally breaking his own comfort.
Spoiler

When it comes to how he communicate with his wife, the consistent consideration from him always takes the top. But that would make the author very foolish. Thus, as the story progress on, a good exposition of his values, personality, morals were given one at a time to not make it seems strange. And the author done it quite beautifully.

[collapse]

What I really liked about this novel is the little bit changing of perspective, and how the author portray people as really smart and very hard to deal with, which is also natural because matters concerning around the novel are much into higher of importance kind of thing. The political aspect is just an addition to make the people feel more human considering this is all centered about monarchy. All in all, I will recommend this to those people who have also taken a liking to a finely detailed world-building, the smooth explanations of every little things surrounding the main character, and finally the slow pacing of character development. <<less

It's ok I suppose, nothing groundbreaking here the earlier volumes were cute but later on as with other complaints here the MC's personality flaw of being a pushover stands out quite clearly and gets increasingly annoying despite his lack of ambition.

The Queen/Female Lead is decent, she acknowledges her flaws but she does not fix them and continues to play a funny game where in the end she's gaining all the benefits from the husband but with close to no return and monologues about this numerous times but continues to... more>> do so out of some deluded need to portray herself a certain way, this is despite it being clear that the Royal family holds the most power.

I'd say give the novel a shot but overall it's a bland novel, not really worth becoming too emotionally invested in the relationship of the characters. <<less

Just based on the level writing, the vibrant world and the well-rounded plot, this gets a 5*.

The novel is amazingly well researched, gives thought to royal schemes and politics and deals with the issue of continuing a blood-line really well. The author does a wonderful job in describing the inter-human interactions, the small plots -- this novel is extremely detailed. I love the world, the queen and the northern princess.

But not everything is perfect. There is just one person I really, really dislike: the MC. He is dull and artificial.... more>> He acts just like a robot. The author goes to excruciating lengths to provide reasons for his dislike of taking a concubine, and it just does not work. This issue is even more glaring if you compare it to the really naturally written world and characters that are there otherwise. It just feels bad to read. Honestly, the queen deserves better...

There are also a few more irritating side-characters/concubine candidates (the jewelry girl and the commoner daughter of the border-noble), but again, this is a personal dislike.

I still give it a 5*, because the novel is otherwise superb.

----

Sidenote: If I had the opportunity to bring my computer to another world, I definitely would download Wikipedia. It is around 10-20 GB, which is basically nothing. <<less

Been reading this for a while and it's one of my favorite novels that I'm reading. MC is unambitious and, like the title says, is looking to be a sponger. It has gotten him to be more involved so to say later on in volume 7 in politics and such, but he is still for the most part achieving his goal to lead a quiet life.

If you are expecting some mega super duper action packed fantasy, or some technological world building, this isn't for you.

If you want to simply read... more>> a story of a man who's just trying to have a relatively easy life, with a cute female MC to boot, then I would suggest you read this. <<less

I'll be short....

It's a slow paced slice of life, with politics involved the more the story advances, how MC can and can't act because he can't give off a ruler vibe (in the recent volumes he has shown capabilities beyond his usual decorative standing) due to his wife wanting a matriarchy rule for her country, also how his wife can't outdo him in the presence of the other nobles due to the country being a patriarchy since the country's creation.

Very very slow paced and everything is written clearly (it may repeat some info 2 times, but that's usually when it involves politics).

This is a mature seinen, there's no super powers, no ultra bosses, no dungeons it is NOT for everyone....

I really like it btw.

I started reading after checking the manga.

The first thing I noticed is that the way the author writes is infuriating. Majority of the time when there's a dialogue going on, the author will repeat what was conveyed in the dialogue but in third person.

>> "I'm sorry" He said after felling sorry.

... more>> Not to mention the lengthy explanations of minor characters and events, often times you will even have to reread some of these explanations when a character is presented a few chapters later.

The story has a lot of potential and it's somewhat sweet to see the couple interacting, but frankly the main character is your typical japanese protagonist that bows his head to everyone, goes with the flow and is usually scared of voicing his thoughts, he is the typical Mr. Nice guy of anime and manga that is so bland he might as well be an empty shell for the heroine to fall in love with. <<less

This story is well-written and well thought out. It's an enjoyable read, and is probably the most realistic take on what would happen if an average Japanese male suddenly became the prince consort of another world. The only problem with that is that what would happen isn't incredibly exciting..... To be frank, the MC is just plain boring. He literally has the world at his fingertips, but he chooses to do nothing but be a puppet for his wife. I'm not expecting him to change the world, but he could... more>> at least make an effort to adapt. Instead, he simply coasts along stubbornly holding onto his modern japsense values that have no place in that world.

It should be called "I want to be a NEET, even in a new world"

I want to give this 3.5-4 stars based on my grievance with the MC's personality, but the quality of writing and the translation in this novel (compared to most novels on this site) are so good that I can't really justify rating it lower. It's still worth reading despite everything. <<less

Amazing book, great read. The characters are well fleshed out and has a good thorough breakdown of the politics involved in the story and explanations for the characters train of thought. This helps keep away from an all too common "the character is smart that's how he knew" explanation. I'm not the smartest so I found it to be a little dense but I kept going and found that they had added fun little side stories which served (at least for me) as breaks from the heavy stuff. If your... more>> not as ret*rded as me it should be a splendid read. Highly recommended. <<less

Read it!!!!!!!!

The only flaw I find with this amazing novel is that it's still ongoing and I have to wait fo x amount of time for new chapter to come out. I know there are 10 volumes but we are at the mercy of the translators grace of when or even if they'll decide to do it.

Nothing more I can say really I recomend this to all of my friends. And I'm allready on my 4th readthru. Enjoy.

This is a well made novel.

It might not be what one would expect from the title though. This is not careftree novel about male MC becoming king and having a harem, it is opposite of that. It is all about politics and in my observation instead of male MC Zenjirou, focus in this novel is the queen Aura most of the time.

I like this type of novel and was considering giving it 5* but it sometimes feels heavy to read so I gave 4* instead.

It started cool with how MC brings modern stuff to medieval fantasy world in volume 1, but it soon become boring because in later volumes the stuff you will read is about politic this politic that, barely any cool event happened, MC does not exploit his knowledge or abilities in this medieval age world due to a promise, making the story really bland and boring. But hey maybe after several more volumes it can become interesting, too bad I can't stand reading a few volumes of boring chaps about politics.

It was good at the start but the development lags in the latter volumes. This ln really appeals to readers who likes female dominant novels. There are some reviews which really focused on the lazy life style of the MC but usually those kind of reviews are self-centered. You can't blame the FL since she's basically the last in line and has no experience in any relationship other than the MC. I do really hope that this ln will give more life to the development of the isekai part as... more>> this will make the MC more capable than being just a shut-in. Give him redeeming qualities since he has a child. People mature when they'll have children, I hope you'll take notice of that. <<less

So, if anybody has ever read any of my other reviews, they tend to be long, and nothing has ever been over 4 stars for me. This is still the case here. While Risou No Himo is a great work, it's still at best 4 stars for me. This is because there are flaws in everything, and nothing is perfect enough, imo, to warrant a full 5/5 score (maybe except Lord of the Rings).

That being said, I still have and will continue to highly recommend this work to others as... more>> it is great and the world building is fantastic. While I go through this review, I will also address some of the issues that other people have brought up that I feel are slightly unfair.

First, lets address the elephant in the room that is characters. The characters in this work are who they are; for better or for worse, and this is actually a huge plus for the author. As a fellow author, it can be very easy to switch up personalities between your characters or perhaps make a mistake in how a character should act in any given situation. This author has been able to show character growth while maintaining each character for who they are. Many people have commented that Zenjirou (MC) is too much of a beta-male, or that things he has done makes no sense etc, but that is exactly who Zenjirou is at his core.

I am a firm believer that you cannot have perfect characters. The flaws are what make them real. No character will act correct 100% of the time. The fact that Zenjirou didn't bring x object with him, or didn't do y before/after arriving, only adds to his humanity. Zenjirou grows throughout the story in a predictable but realistic way, however his entire original goal was to live a lazy life so his actions (initially) match that goal pretty well.

Aura (main female character) is also very well built, to the point were I actually dislike her plenty of times. She fits her role as the first ruling Queen of a patriarchal society very well, and her growing love with Zenjirou and her actions are true to her character. This is probably why I get angry at her at times, in how she uses her husband without notice. Funnily enough, this is pointed out to her, but (granted) it is difficult for her to change this on a dime. Other characters are well built, have been given good/good enough back story to make their decisions believable, and very rarely do we see any character acting... well out of character.

Second, the politics are very well done imo. As a reader and fellow author, I really enjoy the amount of weight the author gives to seemingly small actions such as HOW a phrase is worded, who says something to who, etc. It adds entire new form of depth to each interaction that takes place and has helped my own writing of these sorts of scenarios. That being said, the story (because of politics) has a rather slow feeling to it. I have read everything that has been translated so far, and while the story is great, it also can just be tedious at times to get through. While this is obviously the wish of the author, I can find it difficult to come back and read new chapters at times.

Third, world building in this work is fantastic. I really enjoy reading about the different architecture, histories, reasons, places, magic system, etc of this world and it all feels solid. One of my favorite aspects of writing is world-building, and I feel that the author has done a very good job at making this world seem believable. Even small things like counting systems and the names of seasons fit this world and don't just borrow from Earth as many other stories do. This all helps build of this world as being realistic and gives depth to the story.

Honestly speaking, my only gripes are probably the pace of the story being a little too slow at times for my liking, and the romantic interactions between Zenjirou and Aura. I'm not asking for something along the lines of Kaifuku Jitsushi, nor do I wish a break in character, sometimes I just wish that Aura was more aware of her treatment of Zenjirou during their private time. Granted, things will hopefully get better as their relationship continues to grow, but there are times where it is frustrating.

Great novel other wise, highly recommended. <<less
