All the problems in this series can be summed up in two words: Genetic Constraint.

After this plot element was introduced into the story, everything went downhill.

The main character Zheng is also bizzare, he flip flops too much between "I gotta get serious to protect my comrades" to "We should all take a break and relax".

Xuan is probably the worst 'deus exposition machina' to ever be created, from the start of the series he seems to know more about God's Realm and the backstory than anyone else, he has way too... more>> many useful abilities which are then held in check by his personality and constant scheaming behind everyone's backs.
He's also a walking talking exposition dump on anything the author needs at the moment.

Imagine if Aizen from Bleach was on the side of the good guys but constantly kept making schemes behind their backs, it feels a bit like that. <<less

DO NOT READ THIS NOVEL!!!!

Don't be fooled by volume 1. After the intro, the story devolves into something seemingly written by a schitzofrenic third grader.

As the author tries to build upon the opening, all his weaknesses as a writer become apparent. He writes himself into corners and then has a side character go insane to break him out of his narrative impasse. Tropes abound and characters fail to act believably.

Additionally, this world has no relationship with logic, reason, or reality. Explainations are pure nonsense, and trying to make sense of... more>> them gave me a migraine.

Finally, misogeny. At one point, the MC recreates his dead childhood friend (underage,) and then immediately has s*x with her without any conversation (rape/she was created without the ability to refuse.) After all that, everyone seemed ok with everything... <<less

The most interesting novel I've read as of late. Even though it's similar to Gantz, it still gives off a fresh feeling. It's also one of the few CN novels that has character development.

I like this novel a lot that I've took some time to write a review which I don't usually do.

To be honest, I picked this up to take just a slight breather from the xanxia novels that I've read, currently reading, and will be reading... I thought the plot was interesting so I decided to start reading volume 1.. ugh, who knew I would read all through volume 4 in one sitting? (I stopped halfway on their grudge movie mission because seriously it was already midnight and I kept imagining that lady and the boy from the grudge..)

The flow of the story is great and it's nice (for... more>> the characters as well as to the readers) to have a little breather after every movie mission. As far as I have read, character growth is good and it was interesting to see how they come to terms with their fear, adapt, and how the MC come to terms of what he thinks is right and what's the best possible approach for his survival and his team's. Overall this is a great read and yep, ISSTH, ATG, TMW and TDG will be put hold until I am done binge reading on this.. <<less

When this novel first came out, I read a couple of chapters and then dropped it. I regret it like hell now.

One of the best stories I've read, both online and published. The characters are well developed and you can relate to the MC. He isn't a stock xianxia sociopath, neither is he a 'I won't kill anyone' type character. There is a good balance of seriousness and comedy. The MC's plot armor isn't very thick. You can feel that there is a genuine struggle to survive against horrible odds.... more>> He even fails (gasp) every once in a while, and makes bad decisions.

Actions have consequences in this novel, and power comes at a price. It is a refreshing change from perfect OP MCs with good luck falling in their lap. <<less

I'm surprised there isn't that many readers for this novel yet. If you're a fan of American horror movies, likes upgrades, evolving characters read this. This novel reminds me a bit of gantz, but with no ret*rded psycho kids raping or killing everything they see once they got a taste of power. The characters get s**ked up into "gods dimension" as test subjects, here they get points for completing missions in various worlds such as the mummy, grudge, final destination, jo jo bizarre adventure ect.. Get 50k points and you... more>> can choose to leave and go back to your original world with limitless power and wealth. This novel is about survival and teamwork, and many of the characters are quite likable as you read on.

This novel is about survival and teamwork, really good read and has many interesting arcs. <<less

Practically stability perfection (i think I found 1 really insignificant contradiction only which is considered really good to me compared to the novels I've read), and since its based on horror movies the author doesn’t need to waste too much time for world building in that stage cos it already has a template and lets the author focus on other stuff and have more free words to write stuff, and i’m not saying it has no world building outside of the so called “templates” instead I would rather say that... more>> overall world building is a strong point of this novel so the overall world building is also part of the “more free words to write stuff” a total win-win situation.

The progression goes at a really nice pace and the conversations between characters has a good flow unlike some other series which doesn’t understand human conversation flow. As for the characters they will only be as smart/creative as the author is and in this aspect the author is pretty much a genius, for example a character with average intelligence (not referring to the stat intelligence) would probably suggest things that normal people like us would suggest when they hear a question they are non specializing in, as for above average intelligence characters like the main char he thinks it through somewhat and would be similar to normal people answering their specialty field, as for the strategist kind of people/geniuses they always think of out of the box kind of stuff that even if we tried to think about it we would probably never think up of it, yup one of the main reasons this novel is good is because of the smarts, creativity and strategies. Also as for the battle system i’d say its a mix of a rank abc kind of system + usage of technology + unknown factors (mostly legit dont worry). Oh yeah and if we’re talking about how dark it is out of a rating of 10 I’d say 7/10 the dark setting is kinda a big part of it but not the only focus so yeah gd luk n have fun reading <<less

I don't understand how people could rate this highly. The story may seem original, but authors putting themselves into others' stories (because let's face it, the MC is absolutely just the author writing himself as a "cooler" dude) is a very old trope!

The writing is lazy. Can't justify your characters knowing the plot of every film? Easy fix, just introduce a character who claims to have an IQ of 220 and therefore remembers the plot in detail. Can't think of a motivation for your MC? Just make him a pe*ophile... more>> and give him a chance to bang the girl he had a crush on in high school, over ten years ago. And yes, of course she is still fifteen, what would be the point in fighting otherwise? Oh and the other characters don't really need personality or background, right? Who cares as long as the MC is strong and gets his thing wet in a little girl? (No, I'm not going to give the pe*ophile thing a rest, I don't think it can be overstated how wrong this is.)

Overall, it's just garbage. Would give it less than 1 if I could. <<less

tl:dr Cool idea, bad execution.

I'm liking this infinity genre, but unfortunately the original that spawned it fail pretty hard at several points.

First of all, the characters aren't smart and what got the MC through so far has been a combination of luck / plot armor & hot blooded shounen action. The MC would have quite literally failed every single movie if he wasn't the MC of the story because he can't do anything right, but he's still somehow supposed to be relatively smart. (i.e. it's another one of those cases... more>> where the Author says the MC is smart but continuously prove the opposite.)

This is TERROR infinity, I'm expecting horror, dread, inevitable doom, etc. And honestly TI did pretty good with this at first, unfortunately the Author completely break the pacing with inserted jokes that are completely out of place, "BAKA PERVERTTT!!!" moments, and a random f*cking loli from the MC's memories is revived by "god".

What that also hints at is that it's very likely that not only can people from the real life be revived, but there's also a pretty high chance that the Infinity players can also be revived if you have enough points. So I'm fully expecting another Gantz where all the main cast dies but then they all get revived and the whole horror part become even more of a joke than it already was...

I would recommend reading The Ultimate Evolution* or Infinity Armaments instead, while there's still some luck and the protagonists can take risks, at least it's CALCULATED risks, not pure luck like in TI. There's no random loli or trap shota beach vacation, actually there aren't any noteworthy romance at all, since what little there is isn't so intrusive and inappropriate like in TI.

*Regarding Ultimate Evolution, personally I skipped the first 7 or so backstory chapters (the prologue) and started reading right from the point the MC dies and join the 'game'. Besides that introduction it UE gets better and better and beat TI on all fronts hands down. <<less

How many time did you see your favorite horror movies?? How many time were you upset because the plot was not what you expected? How many time did you swear loudly while thinking that if you were THAT character, you'd certainly did better, not idiotic move like that?

This novel is narrated around what you had thought of. But not in the way you had expected!

MC was kicked in to the movie, forced to play along the movie's plot and subplot. The price was his life and companions. At the end... more>> of each movie, it reminded you that you just finished watching the same movie but with unexpected viewpoint.

Spoiler, even being told before, or while watching, was next to useless.

Enjoy you movie of your life. But.. WHAT' THE MEANING OF LIFE? REAL LIFE!!

---------------

BTW, I start suspecting those darn Horror Movie Directors. Are they really Aliens? <<less

I have a certain fondness for this web-novel, which I will have to explain up-front. This is my first contemporary -- as in non-xuanhuan CN web-novel -- that I have ever read, so I imagine that the nostalgia will remain long after the actual serialisation itself actually ends.

NovelUpdates wants us to review the content of the novel itself, and not the actual translation work. I've always felt that this is very unfair, since we're all reading the English translation of these novels, and not the original kanji text itself, as... more>> reflected by the fact that this very site itself is published in English. Plus, a few years into reading these (mostly unofficial) translations of web-novels, I've realised one very crucial point: sometimes a mediocre story translated well could be more enjoyable to read than a better story translated poorly.

I can tell you that a0132 is one of the most dedicated translators out there, with a very consistent pace of work and output quality. He (or she, quite possibly) makes this story, which is just a tick over mediocre, interesting to read.

The story of a man thrown into a horror movie to 'survive' and power-up is interesting, but to be honest, some of the movies he's thrown into isn't even all that scary, and after a few movies, it gets plain-old repetitive, and has little pay-off. The supporting characters are archetypal, more like anime characters, rather than novel characters, but they serve a purpose, so we go along with it.

Fair warning goes that the plot has more holes in it than roads in donwtown Los Angeles. The emphasis here is in the action, and what the author perhaps intended to be 'suspense, ' but there's more advancement in the power-level crawl than in the actual plot. In fact, I strongly suspect that the author knows what his nom de plume hints at, in English, hence the letter 'y' at the end of it, rather than without. A bit of naughty intent, perhaps, but one that he's dangerously close to living up to.

Having said that, I have a certain fondness for this story, and immense gratitude to a0132, for bringing me my first read in this genre. I have read better, but suspect that this is the one that will remain unforgettable long after I've forgotten those others. <<less

In a country, where US copyright infringement incurs no legal ramifications, the Infinity Genre exists. This is an ancient and powerful Chinese technique, which borders on fanfiction, in order to pander to people who hadn't actually watched the original movies. However, as it turns out, I really like this genre roflmao. Anyway, Terror Infinity is the one that started it all. While it may have a whole host of problems, it's still one of my favorites. It's obviously not for everyone. You'll know if you like this kinda story or... more>> not in the first few chapters.

In my opinion, the real story doesn't really start until volume 10ish, while everything before that was more like a prologue :P. <<less

I'm thoroughly impressed with this book. The plot is unique, the characters are diverse and have legitimate motives, and the author pulls few punches. Knowing the movies that the characters enter is a plus, but it's not completely necessary, as the author usually finds a way to explain the movie plot as they go through it.

This is an interesting ln with horror, survival, action themed genre. I will only say this, if you like action packed novels with edge of the seat moments which make you go 'WOAH WTF'... then this LN is for you. As for the story, others have already elaborated on it before me so I will not reiterate it. I will only say that it is definitely worth a read. You will get hooked to this LN immediately, I guarantee it. Do not be mislead by horror tag. It is much... more>> action packed. But there are also horror moments here and there. There is also a decent romance element. In nutshell, there is something for everyone. <<less

Better then most Chinese webnovels, but still with a couple of flaws.

For one, this book requires you to paradoxically not be a movie buff to enjoy it. If you are a movie buff and have in-depth understanding of most of the movies the authors talks about, you are not going to enjoy this book. Why? You are going to be tearing your head off in parts where the author blatantly stops giving a f*ck about the setting of the movie and does his own shit. If you are not a... more>> movie buff, then good, for you would have not idea that the author just completely when off the rails and made the movie setting into his own setting.

Secondly, the author needs to have a bit more balls. By balls I mean he needs to have the guts to just kill of characters. Like, literally, just do it. Just kill them. It is a survival game. Off some characters. Make us feel a sense of "oh f*ck no" like how Game of Thrones does it. That is why GoT is so god-damn good. George R.R Martin nails that realism part well. This author, well, pulls an asspull and resets everyone. Wasn't too please, but ok.

Thirdly, the strategy. The author of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, once wrote that the reason why Sherlock is such a genius is because he makes the right deductions. The author skews the odds in Sherlock's favor to make his deductions right. In the real world, when we try to pull the same shit, the chances are we are wrong. However, even in this case, the deductions are based on something. The author, in this case, has a tendency to rely on nothing for the deductions. The genius character seemingly pulls deductions out of thin air, at which point I am left going "well, could have never guessed it given you not giving me any goddamn information". He could really have handle this part better in some sections.

All in all, still above average compared to typical Chinese webnovel crap. <<less
