In less than an instant the world as we knew it was at its end.

That’s right. The Apocalypse. In a single blink Zombies appeared and mutated monsters began to rampage all throughout the world. Now it was the human species turn to fight for survival and planetary dominance!

On the same day that the world descends into chaos we meet Yue Zhong. Initially only hoping to get to his friends and escape to a refugee camp our protagonist sets out, inadvertently building a team along the way. After a series of fortuitous events and a few serious hunches our hero decides it’s time to do more than just survive!

Yue Zhong begins to form the foundations of an enormous survival plan… before he suddenly discovers that he has only gotten over the first hurdle…. Unbeknownst to Yue Zhong and company, the world outside of China is mostly a wasteland! Country sized swathes of nuclear radiation and an extreme shortage of supplies in the world after the nuclear explosions was quickly becoming the “norm”. Mutants, Evolved animals and what’s worse, intelligent out of control dinosaurs had quickly appeared and claimed their own sections of the planet. There were several innately powerful Evolved races which appeared that were more than 10 times stronger than humans, nearly all of them possessing bodies impenetrable by normal bullets. The fabled orcs’ were another of these Evolved races, the leader of which had in fact ens*aved many of the remaining human beings.

Unceremoniously exposed to such a cold and heartless new world, Yue Zhong is faced with a choice: Find a deep dark hole and hope it goes back to “normal”? Or overcome all obstacles and struggle towards Evolution!!!

I want to put a 1/5 stars but seems like it’s locked on 4/5...

I really like this novel at first, I mean, you got an op MC, a badass girl, some s*upid guys who are going to die soon because they are s*upid, a kinda smart MC who knows food is important, game-apocalypse theme, skill, awesome skeleton... Well what could be wrong??

It’s the autor and his blind nationalist, racist, and sexisme.

... more>> Oh and the fact that the MC had s*x with a young lady (the girl he tutored) in -Idon’tknowwhatchapter-.

Like some comment said, the racism and sexism show in this novel this disturbing. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman, but who want to read a novel where women are treated as a prostitute. Yep, even MC’s girls are prostitude, really, if these girls had said “no” from the start, and they are weak, would he keep them? –> NO

Oh and the comment about “r*pe and racism always exist when its the apocalypse” well yes they do. but not after less then 1 months after the apocalypse and not in a f***ing whorehouse! Human may be bad but gosh this is beyond “what’s happen in real life” this is simply “I want the world to be like this”. This is unnecessary, disturbing, and will not contribute to plot.

About the racism, this novel is just a man fantasy who wants to sh*t on all strangers, but the law in real life don’t allow to. Blind nationalism is sick, dangerous, and morally wrong. You can be nationalist, you can be proud of your country, make achievement for your country. But trere is a step you should not pass between feeling proud and wanting hurt others and using nationalism as an excuse. You are just sick.

anyway you should read the novel till he encounter a village with bad guys with guns. After this arc, I feel like Satan wanted my soul.

Even if the story started great, I cannot stand this writing.

There is a lot of novel about Game related element, I shall pursue better story with a BETTER plot. And will not read some sick guy lunacy.

Anyway, to those who like this novel, please NEVER agree with the story (moral wise). <<less

This novel is openly truthful. It shows the disgusting nature of humanity. Which is filled with hate, corruption, unfairness, lust, greed, violence, and selfishness. And the story and adventure of the MC as he travels and creates a society in his views is well created. Throughout the series he fights off hordes of zombies and other creatures. Creates a harem. The MC is very intelligent and his characteristics is well developed. He changes some of his views as the story progresses. I would also disapprove of those that says MC... more>> is a racist. You clearly don't know the definition of racism. Also about the MC's and author's nationalistic views don't really go so far as the people rating this a 1 star say. True he compliments China and shows nationalistic views but he also denounces some of the things from his country. He also doesn't only compliment China but other countries as well. This could be shown as how other ethnic groups in the story think themselves as superior and most often it would insult China and other countries. I don't see where the ultimate biase could be located in. I believe the people who are rating this low are just ignorant and were easily triggered by the first curse word they see. <<less

Read all the translations and thought it was pretty cool. Then I read the rest of the novel in the raw and it just gets worse. It reaches the point it becomes garbage. This isn't a novel showing the darkness of human nature but a novel illustrating the author's pe*verted view of society.

It might start seeming nationalist and pro-Chinese when the MC interacts with people from other countries. Then the writing becomes lazy and diverges from a pro-Chinese sentiment to a persecution complex. America hates Chinese people so they didn't... more>> share technology. Japanese people think they are so much better than us but they just like raping our women. It turns into every other country hates Chinese people and we Chinese people are the best because we r*pe people less then other countries, we also don't eat people like other some savage countries, and because us Chinese are stronger than everyone else. That's why everyone hates us.

The monsters and settings aren’t consistent and new threats come out of nowhere before the first problem gets solved. New plot elements are also introduced before it gets explained. The author seems to throw in new concepts and then changes his mind about them the next few chapters later. Let's introduce game cities were they can exchange credits for items. Naw, I didn't like that idea so I'll only introduce it once. Hundred chapters later, let's bring back the city again but this time have ancient bloodlines that you can morph into. I will only introduce it and no person or monster gets effected by this new element because I changed my mind.

Besides settings constantly changing the monsters are always replaced with something new before the first type is killed. The animals effected by the virus and the zombies are the first group. Cities are plagued by these guys but before mankind kills them all... Something else is introduced because zombies became boring. Authors writes in a way that seems like, Since their boring they don’t matter anymore. Even though the world is still a zombie fest lets introduce new monster. New monster is boring, lets ingnore it and introduce some other junk before I finish conflict with new monster. Threats are always added but no conclusion to past problems.

The story repeats itself, and shows some lazy writing. This group r*pes more than my group. Let's fix that. Oh look, a new group of people who r*pe and kill more than me. I think I'll kill them all and take the women. MC is met constantly with a new group of people (who act the same as the last group) after being transported to a new area. That group is always stronger than he is by at least a factor of a million. He takes over that group but before he can solidify his power he gets transported to a new area. In new area he mets a new group that’s stronger than him by a factor of a million, and repeat.

Lots of Characters who have little meaning. The new areas need new people. They are introduced, given a backstory copied from people in the last arc with a new name plastered on them, but eventually they have no meaning. Here’s Japanese male. He’s evil has evil group, they like to r*pe. His name is villain b, don't confuse him with villain a, that guy was exactly the same but Chinese. MC gets teleported somewhere far away and never sees villain a or b again. He does run into villain c though.

The racism and sexism obviously became boring so the author covers it up later in the series through creating conflicts with other species as the primary focus, but he doesn't completely get rid of it either.

I’d rate it as 4 if you read maybe 200 chapters and rate it.01 if you read all of it.

5/5 for the translating staff working on this. <<less

This Novel had such potential, because it starts out extremely great, but slowly it deteriorates and simply becomes horrible.

The beginning is about the outbreak of the zombies and the newfound powers the MC gains, powering up, rescuing and meeting new people, it was a great beginning.

Then it took a dive for the worse. In the beginning, a few people that the MC met had unlocked some power, roughly the same level of power, or slightly less than MC, which is fine. But later on, anyone besides MC becomes utter garbage,... more>> and they just follow him around, leeching.

The zombies are mutating at a quick rate, getting stronger as the story progresses, putting some pressure on the people and the MC to get stronger, but what does the MC do? He starts his own Harem empire.

It's so utterly s*upid. MC starts out as a rational human being, with some decency and a few goals (find parents, getting stronger etc), couple of chapters later he forgets it all and f*cks whatever moves and the story drifts more towards his Harem. It later comes out as almost bragging about the girls that the MC bangs, when really the only reason they sleep with him is because they don't want to die from zombies, but the MC takes it as it's his f*cking personality and charisma that gets him laid and that it's only natural that they sleep with him. If the side characters wouldn't have been so f*cking useless he would never had gotten laid, but alas, it makes me mad when such a potential rich story is ruined like this.

I don't know if this is some power trip or fantasy that the author had when he made this novel, but is sure comes off as that. I generally liked this story, up until the harem part. I really dislike harem novels in general, but can suffer through most of them, but this one is the worst I've ever read, it's horrible. Couldn't continue to read it after that, so dropped it.

I'd like to rate it 1/5, but since I really liked up until his harem empire, I feel like at least deserves 2/5. Poor novel, but had potential, but got crippled and wasted away.

Summary: Great beginning, but slowly turns the MC into a virg*n-loving harem king, whom f*cks everything that moves and does whatever he wants. <<less

I gave this novel a 3.0 rating before, but now I would like to change it to 1.0 because I found that the writing got worse later on.

Why do I say that?

Well, I LOVED it at the beginning. When the zombie outbreak happened and he's running around killing zombies and saving people. The ideas were fresh. I found the leveling system to be interesting and I got excited when the zombies started dropping Skill Books and Treasure Boxes.

I loved how Yue Zhong organised the group and I loved the way... more>> he drove out the useless hanger-ons. He's right. If you can't contribute to the survival of a group, then you don't deserve to be in it.

Anyway, Yue Zhong and Qi Qing Wu fought right at the beginning and they were rewarded for their courage. That's great. Loved that bit too. Hard work and courage should be rewarded.

BUT... BUT then things got kinda stale 500 chapters later. The author used the same plot every single time. Yue Zhong came. He saw. Then he conquered. It's true that every city he conquered were cesspits of corruption and the leaders totally deserved to be removed because they were useless and corrupted, but things got kinda repetitive.

Also, I kinda got sick and tired of Yue Zhong's behavior during the Vietnam and Japanese story arcs.

I felt like I was reading propaganda material written by a Communist Party official instead of a fantasy web novel written by an independent web novelist.

In Vietnam, almost all Vietnamese were portrayed as racist mu*derers out to kill all Chinese. And Yue Zhong felt justified in killing thousands of Vietnamese. A majority of Vietnamese killed by Yue Zhong did mu*der Chinese nationals but there were many Vietnamese who probably did not hurt the Chinese living in Vietnam. But it's okay. They were Vietnamese so Yue Zhong did not think it's necessary to treat them like, you know, real people.

In one chapter, he marched up to a village and kill the village head without even bothering to negotiate with him first. Yue Zhong simply want the resources in that village. So BANG! The village head died. Why? Because. Don't ask. Shut up and eat your dinner.

Later when he went to Japan, he immediately ran into unrealistically 2-dimensional Japanese survivors. Upon seeing Yue Zhong, they tried to drive him away from their village and started talking about the Diaoyu Islands dispute with China.

For real? Really? Does this author really think that's how Japanese people behave? Has he even visited Japan before? Has he even left his house to interact with real humans before?

That scene was too unrealistic. I mean, look. Look here, author-san. Put yourself into the shoes of a real human born in Japan. The world changed into a Resident Evil scenario a year ago. Your neighbors, family members and friends turned into flesh-eating zombies. You suddenly became a RPG character and gained strange game-like abilities. And yeah, starvation was nigh.

And the first thing that popped into your mind after meeting a Chinese national in this strange new world was the Diaoyu Islands dispute??? Really? Really really?? Really really really???

There's a limit to my patience, you know. I can put up with all sorts of bad plot developments and idiotic story characters, but when you go all out to make your characters as 2-dimensional as possible, that really pisses me off.

Having just finished reading Chapter 539, I can no longer consider this to be a sci-fic fantasy novel anymore. It's just nationalistic propaganda. And as a Chinese person myself, I am really tired of State propaganda. Even if you add in zombies and game elements, propaganda is still propaganda and I can't enjoy it.

Oh yeah, that's not all. The author introduced way too many characters! I can't keep up with all the characters! I can barely remember the core characters who were with Yue Zhong from way back when! Who's Lu Wen? Who's Guo Yu? Who's who? I can't even remember the name and skills of that school girl he saved from a certain group of bandits. Because there were way too many school girls and bandits in the story! Before introducing new characters, please develop the old ones first! Properly and patiently, to ensure that your readers do not forget the core members of Yue Zhong's team.

In conclusion, mainly (99%) because of all the nationalistic propaganda and partly because of the huge mess of secondary characters, I can only give this novel a 1.0 rating. Unfortunately, I gave a 3.0 rating several days ago and I can't change it now.

And it's really unfortunate that I have to give such a low rating. Because the novel had a really good start. When I reached Chapter 10, I gave it a 500.0 rating. It was that good. I felt that I had to give it the highest available rating (5.0) and multiply it by a hundred! But then the nationalistic crap started happening... And when I started reading the Vietnam arc story, the 500.0 rating dropped to 3.0. And when Yue Zhong arrived at Japan, it dropped to a lousy 1.0 rating.

Finally, I have one advice for readers who absolutely love novels with gaming elements. You can try Gate of Revelation. It's also written by a Chinese author and it also has an English version. It also contains gaming elements (such as the Leveling system). The difference is that there's none of that nationalistic propaganda that you find in God and Devil World. And the core characters do stick together even when new characters are introduced, so it's less confusing to read. <<less

This is my second attempt to write the review, I've taken the time to read the novel and likewise, the reviews by my fellow reviewers. With all that said, I'll keep this brief, the novel is extremely interesting with both martial arts and modern weaponry making appearances. The author has devised a very simple but efficient way to keep track of the leveling up of the characters and their skills.

To some of these reviews, the author is not a sexist nationalistic pig, the world is not a pretty place just... more>> because you wrap yourself every night in your warm and comfy blanket of privilege and ignorance. The author is trying to build a realistic universe, where the police are the thugs, the judges are the executioners, the politicians... are well honest now, I guess and life is worth less than a bucket of rice- which is kinda true. Anyway, sexism sucks (a lot) and it doesn't deserve a place in our society - regardless of border- but we can't be narrow-minded and easily angered, and while yes, the author does have some shortcomings, the novel itself is still a worthwhile read if you are interested in something new with a darker tone. <<less

My favorite thing about this novel is that things don't come too easily to the main character. People complain about the racist overtones, but I feel that it's realistic for a world gone to hell to cause people to group with those who speak the same language and look the same. Interesting story design and and a world of diverse and ever-changing monsters makes for a good read.

This novel is about earth turned into a world of zombies with a in-built game system, by aliens just for fun.

The best thing I like about this novel, is the display and eradication of corruption. There are various survivor camps with different amount of corruption at higher levels, which the MC eliminates and takes over the camps.

The MC is OP enough to deal with corruption and oppression. Still, he is not too OP, as he gets beaten by hunter (zombie), mutant bird, & mutant boar; once each.

Gender segregation:
In MC´s... more>> retinue, men risk their lives to keep the camp safe for rewards, while women are given safer jobs. Men are given better food, enough to sustain a family as a reward for risking their lives. Men deemed disobedient are sent to labor camps. Criminal men are sent to front-lines as fodder, if not shot on-site. Both disobedient and criminal women are sent to ´pick-up camps´ where they can be ´picked up´ as wives with mutual consent, increasing their status. All disobedients and criminals are given only gruel (rice soup) to eat.

s*xual objectification:
In our world, Advertis**ents put up beautiful scantily or tight clothed girls to attract us to buy stuff.
Going a step further, just like the capitalist black-market trades in sex-s*aves in our world; the villains use beautiful girls as currency to attract deals/bargains, and virg*ns are valued more. Apparently, in the future, the MC will act villainous in Japan. But so far, it is still a good read. <<less

In others reviews I saw people critique the violence and sexisme in this novel, but it make me laugh to think how naive they are.

This is an apocalyptic world with firearms, enhanced strengh and food /water problems!

Think before telling the world can't go this crazy so soon, because it's already crazy enough and if you go in places with food/water problem death is nothing! So yes it can be gore and discusting, but human nature is like that so I say bravo to the author to write this story and... more>> not an other kid novel were the everything is only black or white.

This is what I think an apocalyptic world would look like and only because MC is strong does he start to change it and the people around him. Yes he killed many but saved many more ! He stopped the r*pe, kill or steal in the city he took and gave hope to many. With the scum battalion the criminal can be forgiven and become stronger or die trying, but at least many changed their life and now help the other citizen!

I love to see how everything change when the people find hope and start beeing human again. This is like a psychological analysis of the world by the author. You can be against it but at least read it and don't stop because the world isn't pink like a fairytale.

Thanks <<less

Very good for those who like op MC, good writing skills and intriguing story, undead raise etc.

MC is OP not too much, but very op enough. (The measure is good I mean)

the story is very intriguing, wonders you what will happen next.

... more>> there is some arguable stuff in the story which are:

1-at some degree story shifting: the story starts like naive, good and so kind MC rescues girls from danger, then turns into a still good and op MC but not naive, s*upid and so kind, and building countries as a head commander.

2- there are some bad Chinese people in the 1 billion population that treat woman like stuff and captures the highest position whom all get killed by our good MC in time. There are also women tries to get one with MC to improve their status. That's all about woman treatment stuff.

3-MC doesn’t like the extra treatment about foreigners more than Chinese citizens. And says you will get the same treatment or you can leave. That’s all. There are some comments that he is extreme racist which is s*upid.

4 and the last – there is once repetitive country building again by the MC when he got lose his location and find somewhere new. With not giving his inner monologs, instead of trying to get back immediately he builds a new population under him for a couple months, though the previous country he builds is still under him. That made me a bit annoyed but, one wife character in the population, her rescue by MC, her psychology, her intimacy and mature beauty with MC still compensated the story. And I liked the new country. Now both country is under MC and soon he will clear the way off between them from the zombies and starts some big shot plans against some 'spoiler' threats.

All in all, it’s a very good story for whose what I said at the beginning, and if you don’t get annoyed by these trivial stuffs which actually had happened in the real human history too, especially in the country like China. <<less

Honestly im a terrible person (i waste so much food sry farmers) but some people just can't stand how the mc's harem has only 1 brain cell or how it has too much r*pe/racist people.

Starting of I agree there is r*pe and racist people but it is a fluffing zombie apocalypse so naturally there is going to be r*pe and racism, why? let me ask you this? When your boss Insult you for 3 hours every day, and when it's time to get off work what is the first thing... more>> you're going to do? Well Im going to swear at him saying he can't get it up because his wife look like his mom and his little son is as dry as his mouth and his son size is 3 cm maximum so his wife is a fluffing loli. Basically what I am saying is that people aren't machines and we ain't superman either so we need a outlet to rage on or else we will just poop on everything like those racist and r*pest

Well in they're case they do not have much to eat, who will protect them and the world is getting shitty'er and shitty'er by the day. So yea dictator Yue is actually one of the nicer boss out there unless all you can think of your son when you become a boss.

Then there is mc's harem saying how they only have 1 brain cell or they are all ret*rded whores. That I don't agree and agree at the same time, basically from what I know of girls is that they Follow the most b*tchest of women copying their saying totally of talking about the same guy they like and...I don't know, well basically if you do not follow the above they will call you a who*e or sl*t even though when they talk about sucking off their boyfriends. In that case I agree but dude, what happens if you have a crush on like 1 of the most beautiful girls in the world and you wanna chase her, well whatever you are going to say to her will most likely sound like 1 brain cell to her if you are going to make her fall for you.

And then there is that one kid with his loli and shota army saying mc's has god lv plot armour. Again I have to disagree with that, in the beginning with out any power he bash if my memory isn't wrong 3 zombies I hope this ain't to much of a spoiler before getting any kind of plot armour unless you are saying him surviving with nothing but a stick is plot armour itself then sure he has god lv plot armour

So should you read this novel?
Well If you are into dragon ball.
what this ain't dragon ball?
My bad what I ment to say was that if you can't wait for 3 episodes of plot armour or naruto fillers this is the 2nd best novel to relive stress

Ps:if I claim this to be the number one best novel some a ** holes will claim this novel as the worse novel

Pss: to tell you the truth this novel is lesser than sh*t because no one will read it if someone ain't translating it and when someone do start translating it they find bs crap to sh*t on it.

5/5 if you like badass MC rocket launchers for days <<less

Cons:
- Racism: Author becomes extremely racist against non-Chinese people.
- Sexism: Only two-three independent girls in the world... The rest want to be s*x s*aves (women are looked down upon like at rags, r*ped and used as objects).
- Repeatable history: kill zombie/beast - level up - kill bad men - conquer place - f*ck new girls - go somewhere else - kill zombie/beast - level up - kill bad men - conquer place
- Too many characters that tend to be forgotten

Pros:
- This is a fun and... more>> interesting reading if you just gives you all the above and enjoy the typical male history with a big (really really big) harem.
- The leveling system is interesting and brings a new dynamic to the normal zombie apocalypse stratagem (great number and variety of skills and powers in my opinion).
- This IS NOT a real post apocalyptic survival story. It's more like a post apocalyptic survival game, reflecting a corrupt and degenerate world.
- Badass MC: The character is ruthless straight from the beginning and does not make many s*upid decisions (I love the decision to create "scum squad" with the bastards and rapists). <<less

Unlike most novels I read so far, God and Devil world had a decent start and the story itself is quite interesting, hooking me in only a few chapters. Long story short, "god" decides to kill of a large majority of the population (assumingly worldwide), turning the now deceased into what is described to be Zombies, along with turning most of the natural wildlife into Mutated beasts and bugs (and birds I guess if birds don't fall under the beast category). The leftover folks are now stuck in a world... more>> where they must fight and overcome to survive. The story revolves around our MC, Yue Zong, a normal school student who actually had some balls (and a lot of adrenaline) and killed a zombie, opening the path for him to become the badass he is today (currently at 309). He goes onto save some of his fellow students, meets and makes reliable friends (and LOTS of chicks), and together they carve their way forward in the midst of a world that has literally gone to Sh*t.

Warning: This novel is not for the faint hearted or those bu*t hurt people. Like the tags show, its has pretty much showcases most of the things that we consider wrong, unjust, or pretty much inhuman. From r*pe to Racism to Cannibalism, this novel tries to show what human nature would succumb too in the face of a unknown, unexplainable, and almost impossible situation. I personally like the novel as it goes to show the reality in a totally unrealistic scenario, is doesn't give walls of text to explain the world, and it has decent progression. The story has both its exciting moments and its rather lackluster ones, the "level up" system in this case is rather interesting, and the characters themselves aren't a bunch of bullsh*t.

The MC himself is a normal guy thrust into a really abnormal situation, which, in my opinion, he deals with quite well. Sure, he is ruthless, biased, sometimes selfish and unorthodox, but he still cares for those close for him and tries his best (within his limits) too help others. His character progresses and rapidly adapts to the now post-apocalyptic world, and in doing so he is able to survive and become stronger. Overall, I give this novel a 5/5, a definite must read if u like survivor genres.

If you can look past the sexism and racism the novel is actually very very good. Most of the problems and poor reviews are from only these two points. Even still basically the whole world shitted on china from the 1600s to now (The Japanese are basically the equivalent of holocaust deniers and protected and honored their version of hilter) and never apologized or even acknowledge most of it so if you know the history the racism is more realistic then bad. But hey, you're Novel Updates, basically every novel... more>> here is sexist towards women in varying degrees alongside some fantasy hidden racism. Big harem, op MC, extremely ruthless but still cares about the general state of humanity and close friends, MC is a king with a big following in a post apoc world, fun times don't take it too seriously. <<less

Earth turn into world filled with Monster, and human trying to survive, the adventure combine game leveling & modern weapon technology to fight monster.

The MC not only fight monster to survive but also another human, don't expect human loving each other here, everyone trying to hold their power or even robbed other people. R*pe, mu*der, robbery, all kind of criminal activity are common in the story, the MC are just college student before apocalypse and have nothing in particular that stand up, but he got good skill at the beginning... more>> also more guts.

Overall I like the adventure, like some people said, this novel author pointed out other country fault to china. I wont say it racism, because he himself criticize the old china government before apocalypse.

I really recommend this novel for those who like game level like power ups and the fighting also interesting. Not only fighting between MC and enemies also fight of army against army. <<less

Novel is amazing, its post apocalyptic setting was done in a innovative way by combining elements from Xianxia, MMORPG and the zombie apocalypse genre. The Main Character's (MC) transition from a normal person to a bad ass is believable and it show how his environment/experiences influenced his growth and his tendencies. I love the way the author portrays human nature, how people would act in a apocalypse and how dark it gets. This novel should NOT be read by someone with a fragile sensibilities and should be enjoyed in the... more>> context of the story.

I am not Chinese and the novel does contain strong patriotic under/over tones, bordering on racism but it does not detract anything from the novel, only hurting the gentle sensibilities of the Social Justice Warriors of the internet. It should understood that it forms part of the world the characters live in, with dangerous surroundings and limited resources. An Us versus Them mentality tend to overtake people, but that's just how I see the "racism" in the novel.

Overall if you like novels like Terror Infinity, RE: Monster, Log Horizon and Overlord, you will enjoy God and Devil World. I also recommend reading Against the Gods or Martial God Asura first to get used to a "Cruel" MC.

WARNING: DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE UNDERAGE! NOVEL CONTAINS MATURE THEMES (NOT JUST SEX). <<less
